1000 Miles Ahead is no more. After almost 4
years of fun, a couple of small tours, 2 demo’s and a bunch of line-up changes,
we came to the conclusion that time has come to say goodbye to 1000 Miles Ahead.
We had
great times on the road, on stage, in the studio and rehearsal room, but it’s
only fair enough to say that the ‘Holy Flame’ was dying on some of us. That left us the
choice; avoiding the inevitable (ending up frustrated and quitting sooner or
later) or pull out the plug in time, so we can all look back on a hell of a
time, without regrets. We opted for the last one…
There will
be two farewell shows; one in Arnhem
on October 3rd, together with Landmines (USA), our good friends Smash the
Statues and some more bands. The second
show will be in Leuven (Belgium)
on October 24th and that will be it for 1000 Miles Ahead.....
We sincerely
like to thank everybody, who helped us out over the last years with shows,
tours en ofcourse everybody who came to check us out… Thanks a million!!
Over and
out,
Micha, Maarten, Jasper, Sander,Casper
1000 Miles
Ahead.

Day 8: Montaigu, Ainu Festival
This was
the day with the longest drive on paper, 6.5 hours. It turned out to feel not
as long as some former drives we had on this tour so that was nice. Somehow the
drive didn’t feel that long and we arrived at the venue an hour in advance of
schedule.
This show
was added to the tour only 2 days before we left and it showed. We were not on
the posters or flyers so I guess nobody even knew we were playing this fest. It was a 2 days festival in a nice venue but the crowd wasn’t into our
kind of hardcore. Other bands that were on the bill played all kinds of music
like stoner rock, heavy stoner jazz core, instrumental groove core whatever….
Not our cup of tea sort to speak. But at
least we got some nice food and some drinks and even a small amount of change.
We had to
leave early to get to our sleeping place, this meant that we had to miss This
Routine Is Hell which kind of sucked. But we had a nice hangout together and we
will play together on 23rd of may. So we
drove off to our stay for the night in Nantes. We slept in the apartment of a
friend from the band, Hervé. We got in our sleeping bags early to get some nice
rest before our last show tomorrow in Le Havre.
Day 9: Le Havre
So last day
of the tour! Everyone is getting a
little bit tired but we are all siked to play the last show! Our friends of
New Pokerface told us that Le Havre was going to be a big party! So it was!
The promoter Bertrand told us that after the show we had to come to a birthday
party otherwise we would be the only Dutch band that didn't do so! So after the first two bands
played their set which both rocked it was our turn! We probably played
better shows during this tour but we had a lot of fun on stage! After loading all our stuff in the van it was time to go to the afterparty! We drove
in a small car through the city of Le Havre thinking this is going to be our
last car ride ever! Somehow we got to the party in one piece. The party was at
the house of Bouboul, a nice veteran punkrocker, and it was also his birthday! We had a great time and saw some weird shit at
the party! Goodtimes… The car ride back
to Bertrand was even more scary then the ride to the party, but again we arrived in
one piece!
Day 10: Home
After a
really short night and with kind of a hangover we drove back home! This tour
has been more than great and beyond our expectations! We would like to thank
everyone that came to the shows, checked us out, sang along, piled on and
stage dived! Also thanks to all the other bands that played with us this tour! A
special thanks to every person that helped us out with promoting the
shows, giving us food and drinks and giving us a place to sleep! We love u all!
Thanks a
lot and see you all soon!

Day 5:
Montpellier
We drove
for more than 7 hours, off course with the hard needed stops during the route.
There’s nothing really exciting to tell, just a long hard drive to the next
town that was on our list. The strange thing was that the further we travelled
down south the worse the weather got. BUT then we switched to Face to Face on
the iPod and the sun came out!! The venue we were going to play was right in
the center of town so we had a nice picturesque scenic route through the city.
Montpellier turned out to be a real nice city with a lot of nice girls that
seemed to live in every street and alley. The Mojomatic bar was a nice diner
kinda bar which surprisingly had a fucking awesome rock and roll basement. The
first band was a sort of new school noise rock band which sounded cool. After
them we were up to rock the roof down.
Before we
started we thought this would turn out to be a disappointment. This purely
based on the kind of people that showed up, boy we were wrong. I think we played
a tight set and although it looked during the day that Maarten would not make
it to the end with his voice it only got better during the set, the body works
in mysterious ways. The public seemed to
like it quite good because nobody left and they all moved their hip looking
bodies to our even hipper tunes ;).
After our
show the last band to wreck the stage was Illegal Process. This was the band of
the guy who arranged the show, Charlie. They rocked really hard with their
Refused kinda noise-core. Got damn they played loud!!!!
Then an
in-house after party began while the regular visitors got kicked out by the
owner of the place. Roundabout 3 am we walked out of the club and to the place
we slept for the night. After arriving there it seemed another after party, a
so called after after party, was scheduled. Casper, Maarten and Micha decided
they had enough and turned to their sleeping bags. Sander and Jasper went on to
party and consumed some more liquids. We don’t know what happened exactly but
Jasper is planning to move to Montpellier during this life…….seemed he lived in
a lot of other places in the lives before this one……..After sleeping for about
4 hours we put our shit together and started driving again.
Day 6:
Nothing because our Barcelona gig got cancelled
Today we
have a day off but we decided to at least drive for some hours just to shorten
the drive to Portugalete. We stayed at a Formula 1 hotel in a town called Séméac.
We discovered it was near Lourdes so guess what we did…..right we drove to Lourdes
:D. Tomorrow we drive to Portugalete and we are very siked for that. Stay
tuned.
Day 7:
Portugalete
Thanks to
our nice stay in the whereabouts of Lourdes we arrived quite early in
Portugalete, a nice town under the smoke of Bilbao. It was quite busy
everywhere and we found out we had to play in the middle of town. Clouds seem
to gather over our heads. Weeks before the tour we were looking forward to play
and tour in France and Spain longing for that nice weather and ditto sunshine,
boy were we wrong again. The one pair of trousers we each brought with us on
this tour really need a washing machine while the shorts we packed can be put
back in our closets directly when we arrive back home L.
Because we
had plenty of time we thought it was wise to check out where to play this night
in advance. And our thoughts seemed right, middle of the town, nowhere to
park……
At 19:00 we
were to meet with Carlos the promoter for this show. The guys from the first
band, Tetric Paradise, were there already and helped us out to get our stuff
out of the van as fast as possible. After that it took us I think an hour to
finally get that parking spot we were so desperately looking for. Everything just
got better from that moment on J.
People
started coming in and that was a nice thing for us because we didn’t had any
guarantee money-wise for this gig. We would get paid depending on the entry
fees that got collected. But as I said things got better and better and people
kept coming in. Before it was our time to hit the stage Tetric Paradise (a
young and enthusiastic band playing punk/hardcore) warmed up the
crowd. Then the guys from Aggressive Combat (Street punk) did the same. It was
time for us to get the stretching and warming up the voice routine going
because our time was almost up.
This was
insane. So far from home in a club in Spain and from the first second the crowd
went berserk. A lot of 1000 Miles Ahead shirts in front of the stage and all
the kids sang our songs front to back. It was madness!! We played our set with
full passion sparked by the energy given by the crowd, it felt awesome. If we
had more songs under our belt we would probably still have been playing right
now. To everyone that was at Club Dink on the 30th of April 2009:
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Carlos
obviously also had a great time. He arranged 3 hotel rooms for us and on top of
that he also gave us a nice amount of money for our expenses. Carlos YOU RULE,
THANKS MAN!! Completely siked we went over the gig a 1000 times before turning
to our rooms. We had to drive for another 7 hours tomorrow to get to Nantes on
time so there was no time for a nice after party. Life on the road is no
pick-nick!

Day 3: Messancy
When we arrived in Messancy Smash the Statues and This Routine is Hell were already there waiting. The venue was closed so we had the time to exchange tour stories and play some football. We also had a bit of bad news; we got an email from the promoter of the Barcelona show to let us know that the show had been canceled, because the venue we were supposed to play is closed down by the police, kind of a bummer. We now have to figure out what to do and where to sleep.
The venue we played was a skate hall, too bad it was not finished yet. But we still took the opportunity to do some skating. Check the following youtube movie for all the epic fails: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyBYBK_xwgU. Then the show, it took some time before the actual show began, but when TRIS entered the stage, it focking rocked! We will meet up with these guys in Nantes this Friday and we are siked to see them again! A band from Brussels played next; it was a weird looking band but they sounded ok. Our own show went good I guess. I could not hear anything so I hope it went well! No H2O cover this time because nobody seemed to know it. STS finished the show off and it was great, pile on’s, sing a longs, pyramids. Fuck Yeah! After saying goodbye to STS and TRIH, we went to our sleeping place of the evening. We slept in a little village near Messancy at Valarie’s home (the promoter of the show). We heard some rumors and placed some bets but unfortunately mr Van did not hold up to the deal, so with a kind off a letdown we went to sleep. Tomorrow we enter France and play a show in Nevers!
Day 4: Nevers After a long drive we arrived at the New Bar in Nevers France. It was a small bar where the toilet is just a hole in the ground. I have a cold since the beginning of the tour and until this point it did not matter but today my voice and throat hurt like hell! We are half way of the tour and although it sucks that we cannot play in Barcelona a day off is really going to be a blessing in the sky! Tonight there are just two bands; us and a band called “Reflections”. Dom the promoter of the show plays drums in this band and they only play covers. It was a cool show! Then our show; on the day my voice really sucks there is just one mic. Luckily Dom had a spare mic at his house and lived close by, so at least I had some backup! We played one of our best shows of the tour so far and my voice lasted long enough to finish the set. During the set there were some annoying old drunk French people who got kicked out of the club like 3 times but unfortunately during our set they kept coming back. So after some nice words and some pushes by us they left it by just giving us the finger. All the other kids that actually came for us and saw our show were super cool. They sang along and had a good time, so that made up for those three stupid drunks! When the show finished we loaded up our stuff fast and went to Dom’s place for a nice after party with whiskey. On a scary note we got some alarming messages from home base that there is this terrible disease spreading in the world and now it has hit Spain! We have to be careful when we get there in two days! Tomorrow we go to Montpellier and stay there for two days! Hopefully the weather is good!

Day 1:
Paderborn
And we’re
off! Today we drove to our first show of the European tour! After a long drive,
thanks to a lot of “stau”, we arrived at our first show in Paderborn, Germany. We had to unload our stuff quickly because we
were an hour late, the first band had to begin in half an hour and they had to
use our backline. The other bands that
played were ok! Especially the second band, we liked because their drummer used
a wireless headset microphone and it looked like he could be in a Britney Spears
show or some bad karaoke. Our show went ok, the crowd seemed to like it as they were shouting “zugabe” when we were finished. Seeing a lot of Nofx shirts in the crowed, it
only seemed right to play a Nofx cover. Which went terrible but the crowd loved
it! Sold a nice amount of merch and even got to autograph our DIY demo for a
fan. During the evening we found out that we weren’t going to sleep at the
promoters place but with Holger, the co-promoter. When we saw him we had our
doubts because he drank a bottle of whiskey, smoked a lot of pot in the evening
and was pretty wasted as a result. Also when we heard he had
40 to 50 snakes and other reptiles we were wondering in what kind of zoo we had
sleep . After a lot of waiting we
finally went to Holgers place and sure enough there were snakes! To make it worse, he told us we had to be careful
because in the living room where we slept were two deadly black cobra’s! So after listening Holgers band: “Gods will be
done” demo (fast aggressive trash metal)
at 4 o clock in the morning we finally went to sleep, with one eye open
checking if the cobra’s stay in their cages. The next morning we all were still alive and
had no bite marks, the guy showed his other snakes, and man, he did have a lot!
Of course jokes like the trouser snake and cobra commander were present! Up to the next show in Ulm Germany!
Day 2: Ulm
No stau
this time and we got to the nice city of Ulm nice and early. There we met the
promoter for the show, Marion. Marion showed us the river Donau and the
difference between new Ulm and old Ulm. New Ulm apparently sucks. We were kind of worried after Marion told us
that the hardcore/punk rock scene is kind of dead in Ulm and that most of the
kids listen to emo. After a nice meal, chili in club Schilli ;), we still had a lot of time so we checked out
the city of Ulm, which was awesome! Although it got bombed in the WW2, there
were still a lot of old buildings and a huge cathedral. So after a nice big
beer at a big square we got back to the club and saw that there were still not
a lot of people. Across the street there
were a lot of kids, but they all went some big hip hop show. When the first bands started (Society off),
the crowd got somewhat bigger and
eventually there were 40 to 50 people at the show (including Rudi Fuller),
which was ok! Too bad a lot of them left after the second band which was a
local band. Enough people hung around
out to check us out, which was pretty nice. There were a lot of drunk people
dancing (including some band members) and somehow we ended up with me playing
bass and Jasper on the floor of the club playing Bro Hymn. The after party was
nice and we had a lot of laughs. We slept at the club which was kind of hot because
they could not shut down the heaters … Eventually we all got to sleep and had a
nice breakfast! Next stop Messancy in Belgium, where we meet up with our buddies from Smash
the Statues and This Routine is Hell.
There are also a few pictures from Ulm, more pictures and videos are coming soon! Maarten - 1000 Miles Ahead

Current mood:SIKED
As said a couple weeks ago, our guitarplayer Tom decided to leave us to roam countries never explored by mankind. It took us a couple of weeks to decide who should fill in Tom’s place. After some idols-like auditions, we and Henk Jan Smits can proudly announce who will be replacing him. We found Micha, ex Facing Down and ex Townsville, willing to join us on the guitar. We’re all pretty siked about this and we will be back on stage in a matter of time. With this change in line up, we cannot wait to write some new tunes and hit the freakin’road!
First gig with Micha will be March 20th with Smash the Statues and Gewapend Beton at Ojc Maddogs in Groesbeek (NL)! So if you like good music and party, you know where you are the 20th of March!
In the meantime, go check out the new songs and tourdates for our Eurotour in April (for which we are still looking for a show in the Barcelona/Zaragossa area; if you know someone who can hook us up with a show over there, plz contact us!). Rock on!
