Olmert to World Jewry: Israel Makes Sole Decision on Jerusalem

by Hana Levi Julian

(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert informed American Jewish leaders Monday that Jews outside of Israel have no right to intervene in any decision regarding the status of Jerusalem.

Olmert declared at a news conference Monday following his meeting with leaders of U.S. Jewish communities that "the government of Israel has a sovereign right to negotiate anything on behalf of Israel," making it clear that Jews outside of Israel had no right to participate in decisions about the future of Jerusalem.  The prime minister told reporters that the issue had "been determined long ago."

His remarks were seen as a slap to American Jewish leaders who oppose tentative plans by the Olmert administration to put Jerusalem on the negotiating table.

Rabbi Pesach Lerner, Vice President of the National Council of Young Israel, told hundreds of Jews in Chicago Monday night that "Yerushalayim is not for discussion, Yerushalayim is not for sale, Yerushalayim must remain undivided forever." Participants at the prayer vigil were led by the rabbis of the community in chanting tehillim (psalms) and speaking out against the division of Jerusalem and the Land of Israel. A statement sent to the media noted that "for at least one night both the Religious Zionist/Modern Orthodox and Aguda communities stood side by side to pray for what most matters."

The prime minister's statement also did not seem to take into account a declaration that was made decades ago by his predecessor, a founding father and the first Prime Minister of the State of Israel, David Ben Gurion during a session of the first Knesset in Tel Aviv.

"The attempt to sever Jewish Jerusalem from the State of Israel," warned Ben Gurion in 1949, "will not advance the cause of peace in the Middle East or in Jerusalem itself. Israelis will give their lives to hold on to Jerusalem, just as the British would for London, the Russians for Moscow and the Americans for Washington."

The Orthodox Union (OU) immediately responded to the prime minister's remarks with a statement saying it did not intend to dictate policy to Israel, but expressed its "resolute stand" that all Jews in the world have a share in "the holy city of Jerusalem." ..>if (sCountry!='IL') {var cD=new Date();var cR=(new Date()%8673806982)+Math.random(); var c = ''; document_write('

Agudath Israel of America adopted a resolution Sunday at its 85th national convention in Connecticut bluntly stating "Israel should not relinquish parts of Jerusalem to Palestinian sovereignty, and the American government should not pressure the Israeli government into doing so."

Both statements echoed an assertion published on the website of the Coordinating Council on Jerusalem which states unequivocally that "World Jewry opposes Israeli negotiations which would include any discussion of ceding sovereignty over part or all of Jerusalem."

The group soberly notes in its statement that this is "the first time since the establishment of the State of Israel that a significant group of American Jewish organizations have created a broad united front to pursue a policy directly involving Israel that is based on an explicit principle that supercedes deference to the sitting Israeli government."

American Jewish and Christian leaders met Monday with White House officials to discuss their concerns about the events taking place in Annapolis Tuesday.

Nathan Diament, public policy director for the Orthodox Union, led the group of American Jewish and Christian leaders who met with Stephen Hadley, the National Security Advisor for U.S. President George W. Bush and other senior White House officials.

Included in the delegation was Jeff Ballabon, head of the Coordinating Council for Jerusalem, as well as representatives from Agudath Israel and the National Council of Young Israel, David Brog of the Christians United for Israel, the Southern Baptist Convention and former presidential candidate Gary Bauer.

"We had a constructive and meaningful conversation…." said Diament following the meeting, adding "We were happy to share with them the perspective of Americans who in their synagogues and church pews regularly pray for the peace of Israel and the rebuilding of Jerusalem."

Meanwhile, horrifying new details emerged last night of the attempt by suicide bombers to kill Ms Bhutto on her return home from exile last month.

Investigators from Ms Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party said yesterday they believed the bomb, which killed 170 people and left hundreds more wounded, was strapped to a one-year-old child carried by its jihadist father.

They said the suicide bomber tried repeatedly to carry the baby to Ms Bhutto's vehicle as she drove in a late-night cavalcade through the streets of Karachi.

"At the point where the bombs exploded, Benazir Bhutto herself saw the man with the child and asked him to come closer so that she could hug or kiss the infant," investigators were reported as saying. "But someone came in between and a guard felt that the man with the child was not behaving normally. So the child was not allowed to come aboard Benazir's vehicle."

Ms Bhutto is said to have told investigators she recalls the face of the man who was carrying the infant. She has asked to see recordings made by television news channels to try to identify the man.

Humeur actuelle :  inquiet
Below is a letter that I am writing to send to everyone I know, and everyone I know in the Zionist, and Jewish communities. I would love any comments, questions, or suggestions about it. I believe it is a bit long & would love to clean it up a bit and shorten it. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!

I, along with and many others who live in Los Angeles, and around the world am outraged and saddened by the news today regarding the intentions of, Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert to give away all of The West Bank, half of Jerusalem, and ownership of the Temple Mount to Jordan.

After 2000 years the Jewish people received a miracle, a Jewish State during our lifetime. Through an unwanted, defensive war, against an determined enemy that outnumberd us approximately 10 to 1, Jews were rewarded for their faith and commitment to their land and their people, with the greatest miracle of all-the reunification of our Jerusalem. The Jerusalem that every Jew since Roman times prayed toward and dreamed of. The Jerusalem that was the glue and rock of our faith for thousands of years.

The Jewish peole who had been banished from their land and banned from praying in their holiest spots on earth, were once again free to join our history and walk through the cities and on the worn stones of our ancestors Again the Jewish people were reunited with their Old City, their Holy City, with Jerusalem, the Temple Mount, and the Western Wall.

Through faith, strength, and love for our dream of returning to Israel, to Jerusalem, we regained a home, a haven for Jews to congregate, pray, and live a free and sacred Jewish life. To live as a Jew is meant to live…..in Jerusalem, in our own land.

Sadly, today our dream is being destroyed. Not only the Israeli political dream, but the timeless Jewish dream, of being a free people in our land, in Jerusalem, in Zion. The Jewish walls of Jerusalem are again being sacked and rampaged. Again, like so many times in our history the walls around our holy city are being torn down. But this time it is not an evil outside source that is bringing this tragedy upon the Jewish people. It is not a Hitler, a Saladin, or even a great Titus, that is forcing us to surrender our holiest place on earth—our Jerusalem and our Temple Mount to the enemy,, but Senior Israeli officials and Israel's very own Prime Minister. This is not simply a political decision to be decided upon by Knesset members, like where roads should go, and how much money should be allocated to social welfare. This is a larger, historical issue for the Jewish People that goes directly to who we are as Jews, what we believe in, and what our place in this world is. Jerusalem was reunified not only on behalf of Israeli citizens but for the sake of Jews all over the world. Who doesn't remember the nachus every Jew felt on that day, to see Jews again, after so many difficult years, praying upon our holy mountain?

What a horrible tragedy is upon the Jewish people! Many say that this destruction of our dream and our hope is necessary for the safety and security of our people. But to accept this is to forget what people suffered through to get to where we are today, to reunify Jerusalem, to see the realization of our hope, and to maintain the Jewish faith! During the Holocaust, Jews fought for their right to say the Kaddish in dark, cold basements living off the remnants of a chicken bone for a week in the death camps at Auschwitz. Our ancestors continued our traditions as a fight against Anti-Semitism, as a fight in the dark that one day they may see the light in a place where they could rest and call home, a place that allowed them to read from the Torah without shame or fear, a place they had only dreamed, prayed, and dreamed for-a place called Jerusalem and our holy Temple Mount. And, now after centuries of fighting this uphill battle, for the land promised to us in the Torah and to fullfill the dreams of generations of Jews, we are sadly losing this battle of our homeland by the voluntary acts of Israel's disgusting "leadership".

For thousands of years Jews have prayed for our return to Jerusalem, and for our reign over our promised land; to once again worship in our holy Temple. This has been the core beliefs and sustenance of Judaism since we were forced into the Diaspora, by the last destroyer of Jerusalem and our Holy Temple. Now by our own volition we are giving up our birthright, and the core beliefs of Judaism to our enemy, without hardly a fight.

The enemy is not taking Jerusalem away from us, we are giving it away. We are voluntarily stating to the world that our holiest spots on earth are not worth that much to us, that our beliefs in our Torah, and in our people and our heritage are not sacred. We are publicly announcing that we think that our religion is, at least, not as important as the Arab/Muslim claim to Jerusalem.. Would we expect, or even ask the Muslims to give up half of Mecca or Medina? (They did once have large Jewish communities until they were all murdered by Mohammad and his followers) What about asking the Catholics to give up ½ of the Vatican? Of course we wouldn't'; and they would never give it to us. Why? Because they consider their cities holy, and their religious teachings sacred. By even considering surrendering Jerusalem and our Temple Mount, we turn out backs on G-d, our traditions, our heritage, our beliefs and on Judaism itself. Worst off, we do so by our own volition and as a result of terrorism. We are trading in our faith, our history, and our G-d for a fake peace!

How can you honestly raise your children as Jews, and send them to be Bar/Bat Mitzvahed where they will learn to pray for Jerusalem, and the building our holy Temple, when we, as Jews, held Jerusalem but surrendered it to the enemy on our watch? We are living the dream of over two-thousand years for the Jewish people. We are living during a time when a Jewish Jerusalem and the possession of our Holy Temple are not dreams, or prayers to be said on Shabbos, but instead actual facts on the ground. The hopes and soul yearnings of our ancestors are our reality, yet we are so willing to give it all up.

Judah the Maccabee, our hero from Chanukkah, is not around to save Jerusalem this time. King David did everything he could for Jerusalem during his time, but he too is no longer around. Now, it is OUR time. We must be the faithful, we must be the Jewish heros, we must pick up the torch and be the Judahs and Davids of our time! Just like our heroic ancestors of the past, it is upon US today to save our Jerusalem.

I ask you. I beg of you as Golda Meier, one of the founders of the State of Israel said, that we must always repeat the facts. The facts are there in our history books. The facts are there in the Torah. The facts are in the aftermath of every single time the Jewish people have given up land. The result: more bloodshed, continued destruction of our homeland where more is never enough.

If you are Jewish stand with us. If you are not Jewish, but believe that Jews should not be forced to give away our homeland, and the principles of our faith, stand with us. Do something. If we don't, we may one day again be enforced to hide as we light the Sabbath candles or flee to other countries for our safe keeping.

To separate Jerusalem is to separate the Jew from his soul, the body from its heart, and G-d from his wife. We have been blessed to be able to live with the reality of a unified Jerusalem, and the existence of Israel. But with that blessing comes responsibility and struggle. We are the gate keepers of Jerusalem and cannot let her cities be sacked and let her walls fall again!. Jerusalem and the Temple Mount are not just places of interest in the modern State of Israel....they are the heart and soul of the Jewish people! To give up the Temple Mount and Jerusalem is to deny Judaism itself.

I am reaching out to anyone and everyone who will take this plea seriously and help us make a difference. I intend to contact the major Jewish organizations and do my part, please help me in this mission. Please show some support. If our own Prime Minister is not willing to fight for a just cause, then we must forge ahead together and with the words of Rabbi Hillel on our lips, "…if not now, when?"

Many Orthodox and Israel detractors (ie: Peace Now) will tell you that
the religious in Israel are nothing but a burden to the Country, and IDF, claiming that the religious "do not serve in IDF" yet insist that the IDF protect thier bretheren in Yesha ("west bank").

This claim is nothing but a lie.

As this article shows, One Half of Israel's Combat Officers are Religious.  There are entire religous units, and even the IAF Dreams of a religious unit

Maybe the individuals like "Peace Now" should stop attacking and bad mouthing their fellow Jews and spreading lies and instead spend all that time and effort to discredit their Arab friends in the Knesset who
openly support Hiz'b'allah. (instead of defending them as they usually do)

'Egyptians killed 4 Sudanese trying to cross border'
By JPOST.COM STAFF

Egyptian soldiers killed four Sudanese refugees near the Egypt-Israel border overnight Wednesday in full view of IDF troops, a shaken-sounding IDF soldier said in an interview with Channel 10, Thursday evening.

According to the soldier, female IDF troops operating night vision devices identified several refugees approaching the border in an attempt to infiltrate Israel and alerted other soldiers who arrived after a few minutes in an army jeep.

However, Egyptian troops who also discovered the refugees, fired upon them, immediately killing two and wounding a third. A fourth refugee ran towards the fence and an IDF soldier stretched out his hands, trying to help him cross.

At that point, the soldier recalled, two Egyptian soldiers arrived and started pulling at the refugee's legs.

"It was literally like we were playing 'tug of war' with this man," the soldier said. The soldier eventually loosened his grip on the man, fearing the Egyptians would shoot him.

"They were aiming loaded weapons straight at us, I was afraid they were going to shoot us," he said.

The Egyptians then carried the man several meters away from the border fence, and proceeded to beat him and another wounded refugee to death with stones and clubs.

"What happened there yesterday was a lynch. These are not men, they're animals. They killed him without even using firearms," the soldier said. "We just heard screams of pain and the sounds of beatings. Then the screams stopped."

The entire event was caught on IDF tapes, but, the soldier said, his commanders, who were not at the site, would not dare watch them.

The entire incident took place on the Egyptian side of the border, IDF sources told Israel Radio later Thursday evening.

A Channel 10 commentator said the channel preferred not to show the tape, so as not to cause a diplomatic row with Egypt.

Egyptian authorities said that they
would investigate the incident.

Just something to keep in mind the next time you hear some jerk whining about Israel's "Apartheid Wall".

Stanley Kurtz has an excellent article on the very disturbing infiltration of Saudi ideology into America's educational system: Saudi in the Classroom.

Unless we counteract the influence of Saudi money on the education of the young, we're going to find it very difficult to win the war on terror. I only wish I was referring to Saudi-funded madrassas in Pakistan. Unfortunately, I'm talking about K-12 education in the United States. Believe it or not, the Saudis have figured out how to make an end-run around America's K-12 curriculum safeguards, thereby gaining control over much of what children in the United States learn about the Middle East. While we've had only limited success paring back education for Islamist fundamentalism abroad, the Saudis have taken a surprising degree of control over America's Middle-East studies curriculum at home.

How did they do it? Very carefully...and very cleverly. It turns out that the system of federal subsidies to university programs of Middle East Studies (under Title VI of the Higher Education Act) has been serving as a kind of Trojan horse for Saudi influence over American K-12 education. Federally subsidized Middle East Studies centers are required to pursue public outreach. That entails designing lesson plans and seminars on the Middle East for America's K-12 teachers. These university-distributed teaching aids slip into the K-12 curriculum without being subject to the normal public vetting processes. Meanwhile, the federal government, which both subsidizes and lends its stamp of approval to these special K-12 course materials on the Middle East, has effectively abandoned oversight of the program that purveys them (Title VI).

Enter the Saudis. By lavishly funding several organizations that design Saudi-friendly English-language K-12 curricula, all that remains is to convince the "outreach coordinators" at prestigious, federally subsidized universities to purvey these materials to America's teachers. And wouldn't you know it, outreach coordinators or teacher-trainers at a number of university Middle East Studies centers have themselves been trained by the very same Saudi-funded foundations that design K-12 course materials. These Saudi-friendly folks happily build their outreach efforts around Saudi-financed K-12 curricula.

So let's review. The United States government gives money — and a federal seal of approval — to a university Middle East Studies center. That center offers a government-approved K-12 Middle East studies curriculum to America's teachers. But in fact, that curriculum has been bought and paid for by the Saudis, who may even have trained the personnel who operate the university's outreach program. Meanwhile, the American government is asleep at the wheel — paying scant attention to how its federally mandated public outreach programs actually work. So without ever realizing it, America's taxpayers end up subsidizing — and providing official federal approval for — K-12 educational materials on the Middle East that have been created under Saudi auspices. Game, set, match: Saudis.

It's Official: Feiglin vs. Netanyahu on August 14, 2007

(Vote Feiglin!!!)

Five Points from Moshe Feiglin Live Video

1) Jewish Education for every child in Israel.
2) Jewish family values
3) Security: Know your enemy and win
4) A justice system that represents Jewish values
5) Zero tolerance to the Arab rebellion

(What – An Israeli who wants a Strong Jewish State and no more land giveaways!)

On July 10th, the Likud Central Committee set the date for the Likud primary for August 14th. This election will be contested solely by Moshe Feiglin and Benjamin Netanyahu. Moshe Feiglin, Manhigut Yehudit's Candidate for Prime Minister stated, "I welcome the primary as a golden opportunity to achieve the leadership position in the Likud. The State of Israel cannot continue to exist without belief based leadership."

Manhigut Yehudit of the The Jewish Leadership Movement - offers an alternative government with a vision that will uphold Jewish values. Moshe Feiglin's platform includes: reversing the Oslo Accords and the Road Map (including claiming sovereignty over all the Land of Israel that is in our hands), strengthening the Jewish family, and providing a strong Jewish education to all students.

Mr. Feiglin further adds that he is "looking for a unique state -- a vital, flourishing Jewish State. I want to settle Jews on every inch of land that falls into our hands. I want to establish an exemplary Jewish society that will be a moral model for the entire world -- a true 'light unto the nations.' ...I do not want peace. I want to defeat our enemies, drive them from our Land and fulfill our Jewish destiny. Peace will surely follow."

The Manhigut Yehudit website is www.jewishisrael.org
