Sorry we haven't been around for a while! There have been a lot of changes happening around here and we've been planning for what's next. Well . . . that is, I've been planning. While talking about what our vision was for the future it became apparent that the three of us were not on the same page. We've all had a lot of life changes lately and we just find ourselves in different spots. It was obvious to us that it was time to move on.

It sounds a lot worse than it was. After so many years of being friends and band mates we can definitely sense each other's thoughts a little bit so it wasn't too surprising for any of us. It's a bit weird to not be in a band with Jessie and Daniel for the first time in like 9 years or something but I'm excited for what's next.

I've decided to keep making music under the name Obadiah Parker. I know this is probably going to be confusing for people  . . . but what else is new? You don't name your band Obadiah Parker and expect people to get it right away.

I've been busy writing new songs and planning a new project. A big project. A very exciting project that everyone will get a chance to be a part of. I don't want to say too much more about it but it will be fully launched soon. I think it will more than make up for the last few months of flying under the radar. I hope that you guys still consider yourselves fans of Obadiah Parker and are as willing to support the band as much as you always have. I'm definitely going to need a lot of help coming up here soon.

Talk to you soon!

We’ve had a lot of crazy stuff happen thanks to our hit YouTube video of Hey Ya, but this is one of the coolest. This is a video of a group from PMHS doing a Winterguard routine to our cover song. Pretty sweet.

UPDATE:

Here’s another video of another Winterguard routine that was performed at a state competition. Thanks to both of these groups for seding us their videos! We enjoyed them a ton!

So apparently we were on the Howard Stern show the other day. It seems that someone on the show brought our Hey Ya cover in the studio to play and allegedly Howard seemed to like it quite a bit and had some nice things to say.

I haven't heard the bit myself but it's pretty freaking awesome. It's been almost a year and a half since the video blew up on the world wide web and we're all continually suprised that it's still going. There's still people finding the video for the first time and taking the time to look us up and buy our music and send us nice notes. I'm not exactly sure how to get a hold of someone at the Howard Stern show but I'm going to try. I would like to thank them for playing our song and ask them if they might be able to send us a copy to have you all listen to.

We just wanted to say thanks to everone who took the time to support us and listen to our songs!

Mat

PS - If you haven't heard of the movie "Once", go rent it - it's amazing.

UPDATE: Someone sent us a copy of the segment! You can listen to it here:

Howard Stern Segment

And here's an article from the New Times about the show:

Stay tuned . . . Howard may not have heard the last from us . . .

Thanks to everyone that came and saw us at Edgefest! We had a great time and it was awesome to have so many people come support us.

On Friday night we went down to Queen Creek to hang out and play for a small group of people that camped out the night before the festival. It was super laid back and fun. We also got to hang out with the guys from the morning show on The Edge who were real cool.

We didn't know what to expect on Saturday. We weren't sure how many people were going to be around especially because it was a new venue for the festival. I was also playing at my uncle's wedding reception that night so our slot was in the middle of the afternoon on the local stage. It ended up being a really beautiful day and as we started our set we got a lot of shade from some clouds and there was a nice cool breeze. A whole lot of people came to hear us play and we had a really nice time. Our friend (and dad) Mark came and played sax which made it a really fun show. Hopefully Mark will be able to play more shows with us coming up. We love the texture and energy that it adds to our shows.

Our next big show is on October 19th. We're playing a Jam Band Festival in Tempe with some really good bands including Shawn Johnson. The week after that we're going to be in Tucson and in Novermber we're going to be at the House of Blues in Las Vegas.

Thanks for supporting us and we'll see you again soon!

This Friday we're playing at the grand opening of a new arts venue in Scottsdale called Chyro Arts. The owners are good friends of ours and we're really excited to be a part. This is going to be a really great spot to hang out and experience tons of different kinds of art. To read more about the organization you can go to their website:

Chryo Arts

The East Valley Tribune also did an article. You can read it here:

EV Tribune Article

If you can't make it on Friday, check their schedule and stop by sometime. We'll be playing there again soon.

Hey guys,

Our new CD is finally available on iTunes! We're really excited about how it turned out and are really happy that you guys are finally going to be able to get it. If you could, it would be really cool if you took the time to write a review on iTunes. Even something short would be awesome!

A few weeks ago Q101 in Chicago got a hold of our Hey Ya cover and they played it on the air. Since then we've been their most requested song. This is Spike (the music director for the station) telling the story of how they came upon the song.

Thanks to everyone in Chicago and everywhere else that has called in to your local radio stations about the song and found us here on MySpace. Your support helps us out a ton and we appreciate so much!

Mat's mom (along with Mat's dad) runs all our merchandise sales and our online store. We asked her to write a blog about our big show last night opening for Violent Femmes. She said yes because she is awesome.

When I was asked to write about the big concert at the Marquee, I thought, "Now, what was the most important part of the evening?"  And I knew it must be that I was asked for my autograph.  No, it must be that I got a backstage pass and got to actually go backstage.  Wait, this is not about me.  Really.  I had a great time.  But it's not about me. Really.

So, a few facts.  There were 1307 people attending the concert (paying guests) before they stop the official counting.  Mat and Daniel were fantastic, incredible, and unbelievable. (I could go on, but my Thesaurus doesn't have any more appropriate word choices.)  The sound mix was the best I have heard and Mat's voice was in great shape.  Daniel's bass playing was energetic and first-rate.

The Marquee theatre staff was awesome and here are a few pics of our new friends, Justin and Tracy.  Very helpful and friendly people.

Fans came and bought t-shirts and CDs from the friendly (and cute) merchandise man and got to meet Mat and Daniel personally.  Travis, the band manager, came to support.

The evening was a huge success and you should keep a watch on Ebay for my autograph. But, it's really not about me.
