Current mood: contemplative
Wow............is it 2008 already? Life sure does fly by when you are busy. I am so glad I went into private practice. This time last year I was a little panicked about whether I could make a living on my own. I want to say it was the best professional career decision I made last year. It is so easy to get stuck in a place out of fear of failure (this applies to any area of life). I seem to have so much wisdom coming my way lately. I saw a poster which said "The only failure is not trying" then a friend sent me an email which told me to "stop watching life and start living it"..............Thanks Tull! I hope that anyone who happens to read this finds some wisdom to apply to their own lives from these quotes. My earlier life had often been filled with the fear of failure or an unwillingness to take risks.......I am so glad to be 40+ and finally living. With this I realize that I will still fail sometimes................but it does not make me a failure.

Category: Romance and Relationships
This should come under the subject "What am I thinking?" My friend and colleague Jeff Stucke and I have decided to write a book together about relationships. I'll be writing about and with the target audiance of women...........he'll be covering the male areas. If anyone has suggestions about what they think is missing from current literature then drop us a comment/ Feel free to share your own situations and questions about relationships............we won't be able to respond with answers but it may give us an area to discuss that we had not considered.

Life has been busy...........the book is out, the practice is doing great and my first semester of teaching college ended without any major tragedies. I am looking forward to hanging out by the pool this summer, working 2 days a week in the office and doing a few presentations. I purchased a new phone, with the help of a new friend, which will allow me to check email, office calls and schedule all while sitting by the pool...................technology is awesome!

One aspect of my private practice which is different than most is that I provide telephone counseling for people who cannot, for reasons of proximity or a busy lifestyle, attend an in office session. I have discovered that some people are more willing to share themselves more deeply this way. Sexual Abuse victims are often carrying so much shame that the ability to talk without having to initially be seen gives them the courage to eventually come into the office. Of course, there are limitiations to this type of therapy, the most notable being that my clients cannot see my expressions which often support that I mean what I say. I am happy to help in whatever way works best for my clients.

Has anyone else cried when they heard the song "Alyssa Lies". This song gets to me. It is such a reminder that there are so many children in this world living in personal hells. It make me want to go hug my kids and neve let them go. I wish people would realize that these kids are so scared and confused by adults taking their problems out on them.
Ok--this was my first rant, probably won't be the last about children.

I wanted to say that my fears about sitting around waiting for calls with the new practice was , fortunately, not a reality. I open this week with a half full schedule. The classes I am teaching (Intro to Psych and Clinical Psych) kick off tomorrow. So , I am pleased with the way 2007 is starting. I am still open to any experiences people have had in college classes that made it a great memory....................this would include class discussions, class exercises, etc.

I was offered the chance to teach two college classes today and plan to take it. It seems like yesterday that I was a struggling college student myself. Anyone who wants to offer suggestions about what made their college classes most memorable would be appreciated. I am setting up my syllabus now and want my classses to be memorable to those who attend. I am teaching Intro to Psych and Clinical Psych.
