Click here to watch the Extra TV interview with Gwen.
As she gets ready to kick off her Sweet Escape tour, the superstar gave "Extra" an intimate look inside her life as a rock star, wife to heartthrob Gavin Rossdale and a mom to Baby Kingston. "He's my little buddy," Gwen said of her 8-month-old son. "He's crawling now. He's delicious." The delicious Gwen, who also has her own designer line of clothes called L.A.M.B., starts touring in April, but first she's breaking tour news to "Extra," revealing that her fans can expect to see a softer side of Gwen. "I'm emotional," she admitted. Plus, there's an added bonus: Gwen is saving the best concert seats for her real fans! "We actually made a fan club that's just for the tour," she revealed. "My fans can go onto gwenstefani.com and learn about it. You can get the good seats. It's a whole new way of doing things, and it's really exciting." Meanwhile, there's no doubt Gwen is going to thrill the music world with this bombshell announcement: "I'm sniffing around with No Doubt. We're doing another record next." But until then, fans can enjoy "The Sweet Escape," as Gwen rocks stadiums this spring! Click here to watch Gwen's announcement about the tour.
Gwen Stefani is making plans to have a second child after she completes her upcoming tour. The pop star plans to take baby Kingston on the road with her when she tours this year, and if motherhood continues to be a blessing for her, she hopes to add to her family. She says, "It's already on the itinerary... I'm ready to go." But the singer is hoping she doesn't fall pregnant with husband Gavin Rossdale's baby while she's touring - because she toured while pregnant two years ago and found it tough going. She adds, "That was really crazy... I was in rehearsals and I'm like, 'What is wrong with me? I am such a jerk right now,' and then all of a sudden I found out I was pregnant. "I couldn't back out of the tour at that point and I was so sick... they had to keep expanding my costumes. "And the smells of, like, the tourbus and air fresheners, yuck, so gross!"

Highlights from the interview: On being pregnant in the public eye: "It was weird being pregnant in a fishbowl situation. Especially on days when you feel really fat and disgusting and not cute. Pregnancy was challenging in a way I didn't expect. I was on tour and I was so sick. It was like PMS times a million."
On her baby weight: "I worked out with my trainer throughout my whole pregnancy until about two weeks before. I cried during my last session. I was like, 'I can't breathe, I can't do this anymore. What am I doing?' It was crazy. All my life I had to work hard to stay in shape. I've always struggled with it. I was a little chubby when I was younger, and I didn't want to be that person forever. I became a swimmer at school -- but only because I wanted to be skinner! I'm extremely vain. I like wearing cute clothes."
On getting her figure back post-pregnancy: "There aren't any tricks, it's simple math: you put this much food in, you burn that much working out. I gave myself three months -- but if I didn't have an album coming out, there's no way I would have gotten back into shape in that time. I worked out with my trainer five days a week, with weekends off. I would really recommend doing weights. I'm not into yoga and Pilates -- they don't work for me and I don't have the patience. I'm more like a man, I like going to the gym and lifting weights or doing a little boxing."
On whether her son, Kingston, and Brangelina's daughter, Shiloh, play together: "Yeah! They were like two little blobs when they met. Maybe they'll get married when they grow up? That'd be cute!"
On auditioning for the female lead in Mr. & Mrs. Smith: "I don't know if I almost got it (the role), but I certainly put a lot of effort in. They were clearly looking for a certain girl, and you couldn't get more opposite than me and Angelina."
On the Hollywood body standard: "It sucks that that's what is supposed to look good and that's what everyone strives to be. There's more to life than being on a diet. Clearly, I spend time thinking about it, and it's something I've had to deal with in my life. As I get older, I try not to focus on it, it's boring, it's a waste of life. What I have learned is that whether I'm fatter or thinner, people seem to not mind, they like me either way. It's more in your own mind than anyone else's."
On plastic surgery: "I enjoy a great surgery TV show as much as anyone -- I watched a lotof those shows while I was pregnant! But it's pretty bizarre that that's where we're at -- that you can place an order for how you're going to look. People take it pretty lightly, but it's a big deal. I've thought it over but I'm not at that stage yet."
On being married to a fellow rock star [Gavin Rossdale]: "There are negatives and positives, but for most part, it works. He can tell me about things going well or badly and I can totally relate to that. We were very lucky to find each other and we have this ongoing crazy love affair, with its peaks and valleys, like everyone else's...Having Kingston has been the most romantic thing to have happened to us."
On being down-to-earth: "I still read a menu and go, 'Look at the price -- I can get that!' I still think, 'I'm in First Class, this is awesome.' It's insane what's going on in my life -- I just can't believe my luck." | ..>

Rapper Akon's collaboration with Eminem has pushed their single Smack That to No. 2 on the ARIA singles chart. Gwen Stefani is hoping they can work some similar magic. The LAMB designer worked with Akon on her new single, The Sweet Escape, which goes to radio stations this week and which she calls "a 60s girl pop meets hip-hop confection". They were pushed together by Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records. "I kept getting people saying: 'You've gotta work with this guy, Akon'," Stefani says. "I was just agreeing to the session because everyone was in my ear. But then, I cancelled a session because I was burned out. I was too tired and I have a baby. "Then Jimmy calls me and he says: 'You can cancel everything else in your life. Just don't cancel this session. You have to go and work with Akon'. "I said: 'Okay dude. I'll go'. Within five minutes, the pair were writing. "He had all these tracks he played for me that blew my mind," Stefani says. "I was thinking I was gonna go in there and just have some track that wasn't me. And when I heard what Akon had? I was like: 'Whoo-hoo!'. And we ended up with this song, which, it's just great." The Sweet Escape is the second single from album of the same name, which is dedicated to Stefani's song, Kingston with husband Gavin Rossdale. "I want him to grow up and look back and just know how important he is," Stefani says. "He is just the most delicious thing. I have no words for him."
VH1's "Box Set," a made-for-broadband original music program, is migrating to VH1's linear channel this month for the first time with "Box Set: Gwen Stefani," a music retrospective that includes a compilation of the artist's music videos, performances, and exclusive interview clips. "Box Set: Gwen Stefani" will premiere on VH1 on Wednesday, January 24 at 11 PM*. It will also be available on demand on VSPOT, VH1's broadband channel beginning the same day. "Box Set" joins other VH1 music series and programs such as "You Oughta Know," "Hear Music First," and "Live@VH1.com" in the growing list of VH1's made-for-broadband franchises that have made the uncommon shift from online to on-air. Included in "Box Set: Gwen Stefani" are exclusive, never-before-seen interview clips of the artist as she walks through the videos she's created as a solo artist, including the latest hits from her second solo album, The Sweet Escape (Interscope).

There's more No Doubt on the way, Gwen Stefani tells MTV News, but she'd rather just revel in her Sweet Escape for now. "This record puts me on the yellow-brick road to the No Doubt record I might do. I can smell it. 'Sweet Escape' and some other melodies remind me of the No Doubt feeling." OK, so she can smell it, but when will we hear it? "They were in the studio earlier this year," Stefani said of her bandmates. "And I've been trying to get prepared. I didn't know creatively what kind of record we could do. I couldn't picture it, but now I have an idea in my head. But can't we just enjoy the moment? Everyone asks me what's going to happen next, but the album just came out a few days ago."
Gwen Stefani one-ups the peak position of her smash 2004 Interscope solo debut 'Love.Angel.Music.Baby' with 'The Sweet Escape,' which debuts at No. 3 with 243,000. Its predecessor opened at No. 7 but eventually climbed to No. 5 thanks to the success of singles like "Hollaback Girl."

Gwen Stefani unlocks her passion for The Sound of Music on her album, The Sweet Escape. For what felt like forever following the 2004 release of her quadruple-platinum album Love. Angel. Music. Baby., gay clubs all over the world were alive with the sound of Gwen Stefani. The hit singles from the No Doubt frontwoman's solo debut - "Hollaback Girl," "What You Waiting For?" and "Rich Girl" - were a few of our favorite things, but did the overwhelming support she received from the gay community take her by surprise? "I'm always in awe of the energy, love and support I get from my fans," Stefani responds. "I wasn't surprised as much as I was ecstatic and humbled. I want the community to know that I feel 'em, and I'm glad that they are feelin' me." If its chart-climbing first single "Wind It Up" is any indication, we'll be feeling her new sophomore effort, The Sweet Escape, for months to come. "There's not a lot of depth to it," she says of the track, with a laugh. "It's basically about trying to get the energy up and get people dancing on the dance floor." But what makes the single extra gay-friendly is the fact that it samples queer-favorite The Sound of Music, the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical about Maria, a problematic novice-turned-governess in Nazi-era Austria. Let's start at the very beginning - a very good place to start: "Wind It Up" originally came out of a recording session with a then-pregnant Stefani and The Neptunes' Pharrell more than a year ago in Miami. "I had no business being back in the studio again because I really had no intention of putting another record out," she recalls. "I felt like I was just being greedy by going down there and hoping that I was going to get something out of it, but I couldn't help myself because I am greedy!" Considering Escape features no less than five Neptunes-produced tracks, she and Pharrell must've done something good. Says the Grammy-winning singer of their collaborative process: "He drives the car and I sit next to him and feed him and try to get him all revved up to take me somewhere rad." When she was putting together her L.A.M.B. fashion show last year, Stefani took "Wind It Up" and - "against Pharrell's will," she jokes - had a friend remix it for the runway with The Sound of Music's yodel-driven "The Lonely Goatherd," which led to the single's final incarnation. "It's one of my favorite movies of all time," gushes Stefani, who also names its star Julie Andrews as one of her biggest inspirations. "Something about that film just touched me over the years, so when I heard the mash-up, I actually cried. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it was so good and so fresh and amazing." Stefani hopes the track introduces the film to fans who aren't familiar with the 1965 classic. "This is my way of sharing something that I think is really great. Maybe people will go out and watch it. It's a really good film!" Maria and her charges also inspired the "Wind It Up" video, on which Stefani once again collaborated with equally obsessed director and pal Sophie Muller (who filmed Stefani's just- released concert DVD, Harajuku Lovers Live). "The first time we ever met I told her I loved The Sound of Music randomly," Stefani says, "and she was like, 'Shut up. You do not.' It bonded us. It's the same kind of thing as people who like Star Trek - if you like it, you love it." In the clip's futuristic twist on the high-altitude action, which features robotic moves by Harajuku Girls' choreographer Sho-Tyme with his Asian-gone- Alpine muses, Stefani gets to holy-roll as a fashion-forward twisted sister. "To me, it looks like the Tetris, inside-of-a- video-game version of Maria on the hill." The film's costumes - love the lederhosen! - get an unique update in the video thanks to Stefani's longtime stylist and pal Andrea Lieberman, particularly the scene in which Maria cleverly makes clothes for the children out of the curtains in her room. "Obviously, me being a designer and clothes-maker myself, I was very inspired by that scene, so we recreated it," explains Stefani, whose thoroughly modern Maria fashions sassy outfits for the dancers using curtains emblazoned with her new logo: a "G" that resembles both a guitar and a wind-up key. This key to "getting off on the dance floor," as she explains it, also unlocked the artistically stumped star, who had originally planned to have a second album out by Christmas 2005. "There was a real concept behind it when I started it about a year ago," says Stefani. "Three months after I had Kingston, I started going into the studio to start writing again and it was a huge journey because I didn't have that same inspiration. Every time I would walk in a certain direction, I would get a roadblock. Finally, it just became clear to me that it was all about the key, and the key is the music." Though the ultimate goal of giving us guilty pleasure is the same, Stefani considers Escape, which she describes as a "poppy, sugar-coated album of delicious ear candy," a departure from Love. Angel. Music. Baby. "The last record was all about '80s-inspired music, but this time I was over all that and felt like I was in a whole different place." She calls Escape more modern than her debut due to an increase in melodic, emotional tracks like the standout "Early Winter," a ballad she wrote with Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley - ironically with the intention creating another '80s heartbreaker like "Eyes Without a Face" or "Time After Time." The album also includes drops of golden sun produced by Akon, Nellee Hooper, Swizz Beatz and Stefani's No Doubt band mate - and former beau - Tony Kanal. But the sweetest influence heard on Escape might just be that of Stefani's son, who is zero going on one. "I dedicated the album to Kingston because I want him to grow up and look back and just know how important he is," she says, beaming. "He's just like the most delicious…I can't even…see, I have no words for him." It's somehow fitting that a nearby, nanny-watched Kingston gets the last word in our interview, however, crying out for a feeding as his mother says so long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye.
