Yep! The Flipping the Pig song "Hide and Seek," from the album Pout, was used on the Wednesday Dec.2 episode of Dog the Bounty Hunter. It's toward the end, shortly after a vehicle rolls over. The episode title is Wrong Turn, episode 155/156. It's currently streaming at http://www.aetv.com/dog-the-bounty-hunter/ but I'm not sure how long they keep the episodes up there.

It'll be airing again on Wed Dec. 9 at 11pm and then a few hours later at 3am.  If you feel so inclined, email the show and say nice things about it. Or post stuff on the discussion board. Because, you know, that helps.

Oh, downloading the tune from iTunes helps, too.

Thanks!  And enjoy!

Indie-Music.com Review Here

By Beeb Ashcroft

Melvyn Bernard, aka Jeff Mansk, charms with his acoustic guitar and quirky harmonies on the intensely likable album, The Life You Thought You'd Have. Mansk is a one-man operation, who writes, performs, and records everything single-handedly and puts it out under the heading of Melvyn Bernard. I'm not always a big fan of acoustic music - although I do enjoy a lot of it - because it often falls into the same repetitive trap. But Mansk reminds us just how versatile and creative the medium is if you have the right mind behind it. I found these songs to be engaging and entirely unique; he's anything but dull.

Beginning with the short but sweet 43 second intro, "(Theme From) The Life You Thought You'd Have," Mansk piques your curiosity for what's to come – and there's plenty: The charming "I'm Tripping Over Me," the spacey "Meanwhile," where Mansk's vocals float over the catchy acoustic riff, declaring "My medication is kicking in." We're treated to gorgeous vocals on the meditative "You Belong," and overwhelmed by "Suburban Communion," a twangy country send-up with Mansk spewing a story about first communion as fast as the Micro Machines spokesman. "Somebody Else Can Play My Part" is another spacey cut that's warm and has a bit of a retro vibe, while "La La La La (The Cracks)" is an upbeat little ditty juxtaposed to hilariously sarcastic lyrics.

The album takes a decidedly melancholy turn on "Everything Brought Us Here," a heartbreaking tale of love slipping away. But we don't stay depressed for long – the next cut, "The Memo," is another comedic gem written in the form of a corporate memo. The album winds down with the introspective "Draw a Circle," and finishes off with a well-done remix of "Meanwhile" - it's interesting to hear this song with drums.

The Life You Thought You'd Have is sweet, sunny, and carries a sincere optimism. I'm amazed by Mansk's one-man show, and I love his imaginative style and tongue-in-cheek approach. I'll be eager to hear more from this delightfully unorthodox solo act soon.

The new album, The Life You Thought You'd Have, was released February 28, 2009.  Because I'm slow with these things, the official announcement is first being made on here now, a month after February 28, 2009. It was released (i.e. posted online) under the name Melvyn Bernard. I'm still confused by it myself.

The 10 songs were written and recorded in a couple weeks solely with layers of vocals, acoustic guitar, and much knob-tweaking.....unless you count the 11th of the 10 songs, which is a remix, which means that drum loops were added underneath it.

It's all available for free download and streaming at www.flippingthepig.com.

Enjoy!

Every week I'll be performing as part of the Launch Group (i.e. a cast of 10 improvisers) at the new Go Comedy! Theater in Ferndale, MI. It has nothing to do with music. It has nothing to do with Flipping The Pig. It's comedy. Improv comedy. And I'm in the cast. Not singing. Maybe singing. But not definitely singing. Only singing if made up things happen that involve singing. Still, I'm posting because I'll be part of the cast, because it's damn fun, and because I want it to last. So go. If you'd like.

FLIPPING THE PIG – My Heroic Cadences

Is flipping pigs similar to the cow tipping we saw in the movie "Heathers?" Or is it something that you do when flipping the bird just isn't enough?

Whatever the case, this quirky experimental album was written and recorded in a month (February even!), although it came out better than some albums people spend a year on. Very interesting sounds and unique vocals make this something you want to listen to several times just to discover all that is there.

Melodic and quite original, this CD recalls a bit of They Might Be Giants in the approach. As one of my musician friends likes to say, "Let's have fun with this one." A good time indeed.

I talk to myself a lot.  By "a lot" I mean pretty much constantly.  I mentioned it to a therapist once, years ago during six months of shrinkage; she smiled and said, "You know, there's medication for that."  I don't really consider it a "problem," though.  She was a good therapist.  Spikey hair.

There are only so many days in a row that a grown man can drive alone at night listening repeatedly to Janis Ian's "At Seventeen" before it takes a toll on his emotional stability.

Firstly, happy February 29.

Secondly, with the smell of last November's album, You Get The Idea, still in the air (take a whiff.....mmmmmmm) I just completed and posted a new album, My Heroic Cadences, on www.flippingthepig.com.

Thus, I blog.

Is 'blog' a verb?

I'll 'splain more later.  Bedsheets beckon.

Dear Santa,

For Christmas, I'd like somebody to make me an animated Flash video for the song, "Must Be Nice."

Thanks,

Jeff
