1. Iran does have the Bomb. 2. Saudi Arabia's government will fall. 3. Pakistan will fall to the Taliban and India will undergo almost constant attacks and civil unrest, thereby causing it to nuke Pakistan. 4. China's government will fall after massive, massive unrest and many, many massacres by it's military. 5. A major U.S. religious leader will be prosecuted for hate speech. 6. Oil drilling bans will be in effect her in the U.S. again by May. 7. The military will face major, major cuts and "Star Wars" will be stopped as Obama "balances" his budget. Soon after we will be hit by a terrorsit missile fired from a "tramp" freighter in the Atlantic. 8. Israel will be abandoned by the Obama administration. 9. Housing prices will continue to be unstable for decades due to the "low cost" loans advanced by the nationalized Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae's attempts to reduce inventory of foreclosed homes. Many of these loans will be proven later to be worse than the current situation of people being loaned money they can't afford to pay back, thus continueing the cycle. 10. Property and State taxes will skyrocket as counties/schools/states try to make up for the loss of income on housing and sklyrocketing energy costs. 11. Electric bills are going to skyrocket. Even worse than the gasoline run-up due to carbon taxes and mandates for "renewable" energy. I'm talking 1000%. 12. Since there is no replacement for plastic that is economically viable yet, our oil consumption and use will not fall even with renewable energy mandates. Oil prices will continue their upward trend. Our economy and national security will continue to be at risk. 13. There will be a major diplomatic row with Canada over our attempts to shut down their Oil Sands projects due to "Carbon Emissions". Canada will tell us to "go blow"................ 14. The "Fairness Doctrine" will be reinstated. Since "News Programs" and "Newspapers" are exempt, there will be no conservative voices again............. 15. The Supreme Court will find the "Fairness Doctrine" legal after Obama replaces 3 justices who retire. leaving a leftist agenda in place for centureis to come. 16. In an attempt to get around the 2nd Amendment, cities/states/federal will impose a confiscatory tax on ammunition. The Supreme Court (after 15 above) will find it legal. 17. The "welfare class" will grow by 20% and unemployment will remain above 10% for a decade (just like Europe). There will be food riots in several major cities as farm subsidies are cut to "balance" the budget and food prices will skyrocket even worse than during the oil price run-up. Most American citizens will then get to see the "Socialist Utopia" up close and personal. 18. Citizen births will fall dramatically as abortions skyrocket. Illegals will be "amnestied" and their birth rate will soar (just like Europe). They will all be granted government benefits. The flood across our borders will soar as South and Central America's economies tank even further. 19. The "Stimulus Package" will fail. The American consumer will be the ones proven to have ended the recession in 2013. 20. It will be proven that Obama was really tied into the Rezko/Blagojevich corruption. But, it will be page 30 news, and only after he does not get re-elected. 21. Kim Il Jung will lose the election in North Korea, but the generals will maintain their grip on power........... 22. The American people will sit placidly by as socialism finishes creeping into place even though it will transform us into a second rate/tier power and reduce our standard of living considerably. One benefit of this though will be return of some of our manufacturing base due to the reduced standard of living and wages. 23. There will be at least 2 attempts on George Bush's life when his Secret Service protection is withdrawn in 8 years. 24. Al Gore will be prosecuted for fraud after his "Carbon Credit" company is proven to be a fake............... 25. George Bush will be proven to have been one of our more "moderate" presidents and rank accordingly. Thus shall it be................. Comments please...........................

Will the last Conservative in the room please turn out the lights when you leave?
In watching over 50 years of Presidential elections and the Congressional elections that occur during the same and also the off years, I have come to the conclusion that there really is NO difference between the parties. They all get into office and continue on with the process of getting re-elected and spending our money, never ending any previous programs. The "throw the bums out" routine just does not work.
After first becoming interested in Presidential politics when John Kennedy was running for President and paying close attention up to this current election, I am resigned to the fact that the country I love and support is no more. I feel it is no longer going to survive as the free and vibrant land of opportunity that I was raised to believe in. I have watched Presidents come and go who have promised the world to and for us. The only ones I have seen deliver anything have been the Democrats, who have only delivered us more socialism, never less, delivering more towards what they promise and believe than any other party.
Eisenhower gave us nothing, except an attempt to nationalize some industries (steel and railroads) - not very Republican nor Conservative.
Kennedy gave us tax cuts - a more Conservative act than most so-called conservatives today and actually used a balanced budget. (This was a Democrat?) Interestingly his term was cut short before we could see what else was in store. He did open us up to the possibility of being radiated to death tho........................
LBJ gave us the Great Society and the War on Poverty - both, as usual, were and are failures because whenever the government gets involved, failure is almost always guaranteed. Poverty rates were actually falling faster before these programs and have actually risen since their inception. Absolutely not Conservative.
Nixon gave us the Imperial Presidency and opened up Red China. Nothing like trading with our enemies and selling them the rope to hang us with. He also attempted to institute wage and price controls. (This was a Conservative?)
Ford did nothing - perhaps for the best and pehaps making him a better President than most people give him credit for being.
Carter - His name should actually be four letters! Creator of the Misery Index and one of the biggest cutters of our military, causing us to be helpless to do anything with a 2-bit country that actually has declared war on us and refusing to do anything about America's National Security crisis with energy and it's deadly effect on our National Welfare and Security.
Reagan was a great talker as a Conservative. But please name ONE socialist program that he did away with? Name one budget that he balanced, or one spending increase that he didn't allow? He did have a major hand in ending the Cold War, but look at the spending needed to do it. (I am not saying I don't agree with this part, but take his terms as a whole)
Bush One was a blue blood patrician Republican. The exact same type as the ones that gave us our current Presidential candidate on the Republican side. He raised taxes instead of cutting spending. He did however show a 2 bit dictator what it means to cross the United States and what the consequences can be.
Clinton taught us all about "the Lewinsky" , the "peace Dividend" and the meaning of "is". He did serve up some semi-balanced budgets and a roaring economy and welfare reform, but these were mostly forced on him by a Republican Congress that had actually turned Conservative. Howerver, the budget surpluses weren't real, they were from the tax increases he put in place on Social Security and were never labeled as such by a biased media and the economy ultimately only turned out to be a bubble. He also gave us NAFTA, sending our jobs overseas and gave our nuclear and space secrets to our enemies and allowed America to be attacked again and again without consequence to our enemies other than a few criminal indictments. But he did ruthlessly kill Americans who had different beliefs, because he could. (Waco, Ruby Ridge) This President also signed all the laws making energy independence for America impossible by making Wilderness Areas of the most energy promising areas of the United States. (Alaska, Calfornia, Wyoming, Utah etc etc etc etc)
Bush Two - Mr. Compassionate Conservative himself!!! Has done more damage in two terms to our Constitutional Rights than any other President. He cut the First Amendment by signing McCain-Feingold, Instituted the Ted Kennedy plan of No Child Left Behind (remember his effort to reach across the aisle and let Kennedy write the education bill? NCLB is Teddy Kennedy's effort, not George Bush's, ending your Freedom of Choice on the Education of your children. He then made one of the largest expansions of our government towards Socialism - the Medicare Part D Drug plan, 700 billion a year not paid for and certain to never be cut. Adding more entitlements and not paying for it, and also creating one of the biggest new government programs of all - Homeland Security. Oh, yes, he did give us tax cuts, but where were the budget cuts to match? Not to mention , hanging all his friends out to dry and failing to discipline and control our intelligence agencies for their very obvious failures. (Instead, let's give them medals!) Compassionate maybe, but no Conservative.
Next?
McCain? Law of the Sea Treaty? Giving away our sovereignty and right to travel the seas freely? Heard this one mentioned during the election? He's for it. How about the Kyoto Protocols? He has said he is for it. Can our economy withstand it? NO. Immigration?
He is still waffling since he hasn't been elected yet, but I will bet you that if he is elected, he will sign anything the Democrats send his way on immigration since it would match his previous positions. He says he would keep the tax cuts in place though, but hasn't explained how with the Democrats in control of both houses. Good thing he says that he will only serve one term, as the Democrats will do everything they can to destroy him (even worse than Bush, because they can smell the blood in the water). And before I forget - Carbon Credits. Think your electric bill is high now? How about your gasoline bill (yes it will affect cars). Just another code word for higher bills and higher taxes. Says he will give us Conservative judges, but can't explain how he will do it through a Democrat controlled Senate. And by the way, do you think he will pardon Bush? You know, the Democrats will immediately put him on trial for "War Crimes" immediately after the election. Yes, he will "reach across the aisle" - "More of the same McCain".
Obama? 800 Billion to Africa for the Global Poverty Act. Another 800 Billion for Healthcare. This bill is currently being written by Ted Kennedy as one of his last acts. (Probably with Hillary in charge - a campaign promise?) Who will be able to resist passing this one? (Do it for old Ted!) Says he will do away with Bush's tax cuts.........welcome to 11%, 14%, 50% increases in your taxes, all at the same time your house values have plummeted, your utilities and property taxes, and school tuitions have skyrocketed and your 401k is on its way to being worthless (OH, and also plan on it being taken over by the government - not bought, or borrowed - TAKEN - it's already being talked about in the House Revenue Committee, and the Democrats are said to be "intrigued" with the idea.) But yet he is offering tax cuts to 95% of Americans. (before or after he raises them by doing away with the Bush tax cuts?) There is also the reason he wants us out of IRAQ - he can then declare another "Peace Dividend" and slice our military to shreds again, making it take even longer the next time to ramp up when the threats come. Then there is his "weath redistribution".
If he is going to give 95% of us a tax cut, then the other 5% had better be prepared to become American Exiles just like they have in any other country that has raised confiscatory tax rate. Once all the rich leave, who will he have to tax to pay for his "lofty programs"???????
Be prepared to become even poorer. Oh, and don't forget, all the new Supreme Court judges he will get to appoint. Will even one of his proposals be found unconstitutional? NO.
Can we also say "Fairness Doctrine" ? Along with the Socialist Triumvirate of Obama, Pelosi and Reid. (Happy Halloween!)
You say, but.............but.........................
I have consistently voted for my beliefs and convictions thru the years. Have You? Or did you just vote AGAINST someone or AGAINST something? Each one of these Presidents listed who served during my lifetime have participated in the socialism agenda. Each one has done unconstitutional acts or allowed them to continue, by not cutting or doing away with them, much less, the ones that actually proposed them and passed them.
But......But............some of you will say, The Supreme Court said they were OK............................................
Does that make it right?
Does that absolve your conscience?
Does that allow you and them to ignore one of the most amazing and fantastic man-made documents ever written?
Do you continue paying your Social Security taxes, even though there is the likelyhood that you will never collect (you younger ones), or that your children will not be able to afford to pay it? Or that you are paying it twice? (You pay once, they spend it, and issue T-Bonds which you then have to pay again as the national debt)
Do you continue to pay your income taxes? The 19th amendment does not mention unequal rates, nor does it say that it denies you the most fundamental right under the Constitution - Equal Protection under Law. What is equal about me or you paying more percentage wise than your neighbor, or even your neighbor paying none, while you pay throught the teeth?
Do you continue to rent your land from the government? If you pay property taxes, you are renting your land and acknowledging the governments rights as owner of your property. You want proof? Try not paying them, and watch them sell your house out from under you.
Are you allowing cities and states to tax your utilities? They mandate these items - sewer, water, garbage etc, then tax you for using them. If you don't pay the taxes on them, they will shut them off and then say your house is unfit for human habitation...............Double jeopardy?
Do you accede to the governments power to tell you who you can associate with? Remember, that with Handicap, racial, sexual preference protection comes restrictions on freedom of association, another Constitutional Right.
Does the government have the right to tell you what lightbulbs to use in your home? (remember incandescent lightbulbs are ILLEGAL after 2012) What car to drive? etc etc
These are just a few examples. You have gone on like sheep and participated in these unconstitutional acts and permitted them to continue by your acquiescience to them.
You have allowed the voting system of this country to allow the non-producers to be able to out-vote the producers because of "equal votes" , when it should be if you are a "producer" towards our economy and nation, you should have more of a say than a "non-producer" after all, the "producers" are the ones paying for it.. There will be more to come, just look at the recent Supreme Court cases - they took away your land rights and the original definition of Eminent Domain, they took away States Rights in a continuing series of decisions from the 1930's to today. They have superseded the President's War Powers, yet nobody says a word except that the Presidency is too powerful now - never being balanced. They've allowed a non-government agency to spend billions upon billions of our money with nary a peep (the Federal Reserve) and start owning major portions of our economy.
Where are the marches and the outrage? Where are the boycotts? Where is the Civil Disobediance? It only seems to occur from the left and only for items that don't advance the socialist agenda. While you have done the responsible thing and gone to work and paid your taxes, they have advanced and advanced. You have condoned these outrages by your silence. Yes, you write and you call your congressman, but does it really stop or change it? NO Only taking to the streets works as the left shows everyday. You will have to scare this government into any changes.
They can not put ALL of us in prison - there is not enough room or money - and the government is absolutely terrified of Jury Nullification, which is why they try so hard to keep you uninformed about it and unaware of it. Research it and start using it. Sure, it will cost you a little time and money, but start serving on those juries and volunteering to do so. It's one of the last places where you can keep your freedom from the government. Right now, with the election almost over, the Liberal Left are already writing new laws to withdraw drilling rights and everything you thought you had stopped.
Remember, they don't stop, it's continually advance, advance, advance. Anything to the contrary is only a temporary setback to be counteracted at the next oppportunity.
You are a fool if you don't start fighting back. It might be a little uncomfortable doing without some of your "comforts", but it is either that or become a Socialist Slave to the "Non-Producers".
One last thought: You always hear how the Communist/Socialist program creates a "classless" society. In a way they are quite correct - everybody becomes poor, except for the ruling elite.
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure the domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Very simple, but very eloquent. Amazingly ignored. Where is the justice? The blessings of Liberty? And especially note: Promote......................NOT, provide the general welfare.
Who will I vote for? How am I going to vote? You may be very surprised. I will give you my answer on November 3rd.

The Manifesto of the New American Uprising
Congress: 1. "Earmarks" be proved to have a "Federal" role and any legislation likewise with proof how it abides by the Constitution.
2. Appoint all former Presidents and Vice Presidents to the new office of "National Advisory Cabinet."
3. Mandate non-partisan redistricting for House elections to enhance electoral competition - by Amendment if necessary.. 4. We demand Congress only write bills pertaining only to one subject per bill, no "Omnibus" bills - by Amendment if necessary.

10. We demand the loss of all Federal dollars to any city, county, state, or school system that violates the letter or the spirit of immigration law or blocks military recruiting. (after all, they are the ones that provide for your freedom of expression and speech). Any religious or charitable institution that provides "safe Haven" or violates immigration law would automatically lose tax exempt status.
11. We demand a Fair Tax - (Flat) and the right to trial by Jury in Tax Court. A: to repair inequities and unfairness in the tax codes. * The top 0.1% of taxpayers by income pay 17.4% of all federal taxes (earning 9.1% of the income). * The top 1% of taxpayers, gross income $328,049 or more, by income pay 36.9% of all federal taxes (earning 19% of the income). * The top 5% of taxpayers, gross income $137,056 or more, pay 57.1% of all federal taxes (earning 33.4% of the income). * The bottom 50%, gross income 30,122 or less, pay 3.3% of all individual income taxes (earning 13.4% of the income). B: Everyone should pay the same percentage. It is only fair that you must pay something for your share of ownership in the United States C: Remove all tax breaks and subsidies and tax shelters for Corporations that Outsource American Jobs and Reward their competitors who do not.
12. .Repeal of the 14th Amendment's Birthright Babies and demand the creation of certification systems for employers to verify immigrant status, any employer found in violation will be fined a minimum of $100,000 ......per occurence.
13. If Congress will not do true immigration reform and enforcement with closed borders, pass a Constitutional Amendment codifying such.
14. By Amendment, add a clause to Amendment 5, stating that no property will be seized for private use.
15. Repeal the asset forfeiture clause of the Federal civil code. Allow asset forfeitures only upon conviction of a crime involving the assets as required in the 4th Amendment.
16. Repeal the protections of bankruptcy and against lawsuits for companies whose pensions have been taken over by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. The same for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. If the Company directors caused the failures, their pay from when the faillure to pay or abide by the contracts began, should be forfeit. Presidency:17. We demand prosecution of any person in our government who without authorization of the President (the constitution says he is in charge of foreign policy) travels to an enemy or known adversary of the United ....States and represents themselves as spokesman for the government.
18. Give the President a line-item veto by Amendment if necessary.
19. We demand that the Monroe Doctrine be reinstituted. 20. Eliminate the Department of Education and return that function to the States, with set National Standards for diplomas.
21, Pull out of NATO and close all bases except two........one in Germany and one in Britain (to continue for the treatment and forwarding of our wounded.) They are quite capable of defending themselves and we do ......not need to be subsidizing their socialist governments with our money any longer and to let them continue stabbing us in the back while still taking our moneySupreme Court:22. Eliminate lifetime tenure for federal judges in favor of non-renewable 15-year terms for all federal judges.
23. Congress must codify a mandatory retirement age for all federal judges.
24. The Justice Department must review all Judicial decisions of the Appeals courts and demand the removal of judges who are overturned by 50% margin or greater on review by the full Appeals Court of that district or by the Supreme Court. This is consistent with Article III. - Section 1 - The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behavior.,
25. Give federal judges guaranteed cost of living increases so pay is never an issue.
26. By Amendment if necessary, require that the Senator's present (as directly worded in the Constitution) vote up or down on the nominations of judges. No filibustering or parliamentary moves to foil same. Also ......require that no questions on the nominee's religious views be allowed as our Constitution states quite clearly that "No religious test" will be allowed. Politics:27. Adopt a National primary system, for Presidential party nominations to avoid the destructive front-loading of primaries, with two National Primaries. The top three winners of each party of the first primary advance to the second and final. These primaries should all be held on one day for each primary throughout the States (for instance, one in Febraury and one in July).
28. Reform campaign financing to return power to the people (repeal the odious sections of McCain-Feingold and close the 527 loophole).
29. Adopt an automatic registration system with ID for all qualified American citizens to guarantee their right to vote is not abridged by bureaucratic requirements.
30. Require that all unions, trade guilds etc respect the members wishes on political campaign contributions ie: if a member specifies a party, or none, that party is donated to by the percentage of the members dues as all others, or none, depending on that members wishes.Universal National Service:31. Create a Constitutional requirement that all able-bodied young Americans devote at least 2 years of their lives in service to the country, (Peace Corps, Military, Americorps, Red Cross etc..........) as a requirement towards ANY Government aid of any kind whether it be Scholarships, Grants, Welfare, Social Security - whatever.The basis of our political system is the right of the people to make and to alter their constitutions of government. The Dying Constitution
THE argument most frequently made in favor of The Living Constitution is a pragmatic one: Such an evolutionary approach is necessary in order to provide the "flexibility" that a changing society requires; the Constitution would have snapped if it had not been permitted to bend and grow. This might be a persuasive argument if most of the "growing" that the proponents of this approach have brought upon us in the past, and are determined to bring upon us in the future, were the elimination of restrictions upon democratic government. But just the opposite is true. Historically, and particularly in the past 35 years, the "evolving" Constitution has imposed a vast array of new constraints -- new inflexibilities --upon administrative, judicial, and legislative action. To mention only a few things that formerly could be done or not done, as the society desired, but now cannot be done:
-- admitting in a state criminal trial evidence of guilt that was obtained by an unlawful search; -- permitting invocation of God at public-school graduations; -- electing one of the two houses of a state legislature the way the United States Senate is elected, i.e., on a basis that does not give all voters numerically equal representation; -- terminating welfare payments as soon as evidence of fraud is received, subject to restoration after hearing if the evidence is satisfactorily refuted; -- imposing property requirements as a condition of voting; -- prohibiting anonymous campaign literature; -- prohibiting pornography. And the future agenda of constitutional evolutionists is mostly more of the same -- the creation of new restrictions upon democratic government, rather than the elimination of old ones. Less flexibility in government, not more. As things now stand, the federal and state governments may either apply capital punishment or abolish it, permit suicide or forbid it -- all as the changing times and the changing sentiments of society may demand. But when capital punishment is held to violate the Eighth Amendment, and suicide is held to be protected by the Fourteenth Amendment, all flexibility with regard to those matters will be gone. No, the reality of the matter is that, generally speaking, devotees of The Living Constitution seek not to facilitate social change but to prevent it. There are, I must admit, a few exceptions to that rule -- a few instances in which, historically, greater flexibility has been the result of the process. But those exceptions serve only to refute another argument of the proponents of an evolving Constitution: that evolution will always be in the direction of greater personal liberty. They consider that a great advantage, for reasons that I do not entirely understand. All government represents a balance between individual freedom and social order, and it is not true that every alteration of that balance in the direction of greater individual freedom is necessarily good. But in any case, the record of history refutes the proposition that the evolving Constitution will invariably enlarge individual rights. The most obvious refutation is the modern Court's limitation of the constitutional protections afforded to property. The provision prohibiting impairment of the obligation of contracts, for example, has been gutted. I am sure that We the People agree with that development; we value property rights less than did the Founders. So also, we value the right to bear arms less than did the Founders (who thought the right of self-defense to be absolutely fundamental), and there will be few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard. But this just shows that the Founders were right when they feared that some (in their view misguided) future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may like the abridgment of property rights and like the elimination of the right to bear arms; but let us not pretend that these are not reductions of rights. My pointing out that the American people may be satisfied with a reduction of their liberties should not be taken as a suggestion that the proponents of The Living Constitution follow the desires of the American people in determining how the Constitution should evolve. They follow nothing so precise; indeed, as a group they follow nothing at all. Perhaps the most glaring defect of Living Constitutionalism, next to its incompatibility with the whole anti-evolutionary purpose of a constitution, is that there is no agreement, and no chance of agreement, upon what is to be the guiding principle of the evolution. Panta rhei is not a sufficiently informative principle of constitutional interpretation. What is it that the judge must consult to determine when, and in what direction, evolution has occurred? Is it the will of the majority, discerned from newspapers, radio talk shows, public-opinion polls, and chats at the country club? Is it the philosophy of Hume, or of John Rawls, or of John Stuart Mill, or of Aristotle? As soon as the discussion goes beyond whether the Constitution is static, the evolutionists divide into as many camps as there are individual views of the good, the true, and the beautiful. I think that is inevitably so, which means that evolutionism is simply not a practicable constitutional philosophy. I DO not suggest, mind you, that originalists always agree upon their answer. There is plenty of room for disagreement as to what the original meaning was, and even more as to how that original meaning applies to the situation before the Court. But the originalist at least knows what he is looking for: the original meaning of the text. Often -- indeed, I dare say usually -- that is easy to discern and simple to apply. Sometimes (though not very often) there will be disagreement regarding the original meaning; and sometimes there will be disagreement as to how that original meaning applies to new and unforeseen phenomena. How, for example, does the First Amendment guarantee of "the freedom of speech" apply to new technologies that did not exist when the guarantee was created -- to sound trucks, or to government-licensed over-the-air television? In such new fields the Court must follow the trajectory of the First Amendment, so to speak, to determine what it requires -- and assuredly that enterprise is not entirely cut-and-dried but requires the exercise of judgment.
But the difficulties and uncertainties of determining original meaning and applying it to modern circumstances are negligible compared with the difficulties and uncertainties of the philosophy which says that the Constitution changes; that the very act which it once prohibited it now permits, and which it once permitted it now prohibits; and that the key to that change is unknown and unknowable. The originalist, if he does not have all the answers, has many of them. For the evolutionist, on the other hand, every question is an open question, every day a new day. No fewer than three of the Justices with whom I have served (Justices Brennan, Marshall, and Blackmun) have maintained that the death penalty is unconstitutional, even though its use is explicitly contemplated in the Constitution. The Due Process Clause of the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments says that no person shall be deprived of life without due process of law; and the Grand Jury Clause of the Fifth Amendment says that no person shall be held to answer for a capital crime without grand-jury indictment. No matter. Under The Living Constitution the death penalty may have become unconstitutional. And it is up to each Justice to decide for himself (under no standard I can discern) when that occurs. In the last analysis, however, it probably does not matter what principle, among the innumerable possibilities, the evolutionist proposes to use in order to determine in what direction The Living Constitution will grow. Whatever he might propose, at the end of the day an evolving constitution will evolve the way the majority wishes. The people will be willing to leave interpretation of the Constitution to lawyers so long as the people believe that it is (like the interpretation of a statute) essentially lawyers' work --requiring a close examination of text, history of the text, traditional understanding of the text, judicial precedent, and so forth. But if the people come to believe that the Constitution is not a text like other texts; that it means, not what it says or what it was understood to mean, but what it should mean, in the light of the "evolving standards of decency that mark the progress of a maturing society" -- well, then, they will look for qualifications other than impartiality, judgment, and lawyerly acumen in those whom they select to interpret it. More specifically, they will look for judges who agree with them as to what the evolving standards have evolved to; who agree with them as to what the Constitution ought to be. It seems to me that that is where we are heading, or perhaps even where we have arrived. Seventy-five years ago, we believed firmly enough in a rock-solid, unchanging Constitution that we felt it necessary to adopt the Nineteenth Amendment to give women the vote. The battle was not fought in the courts, and few thought that it could be, despite the constitutional guarantee of Equal Protection of the Laws; that provision did not, when it was adopted, and hence did not in 1920, guarantee equal access to the ballot but permitted distinctions on the basis not only of age but also of property and of sex.
Who can doubt that if the issue had been deferred until today, the Constitution would be (formally) unamended, and the courts would be the chosen instrumentality of change? The American people have been converted to belief in The Living Constitution, a "morphing" document that means, from age to age, what it ought to mean. And with that conversion has inevitably come the new phenomenon of selecting and confirming federal judges, at all levels, on the basis of their views regarding a whole series of proposals for constitutional evolution. If the courts are free to write the Constitution anew, they will write it the way the majority wants; the appointment and confirmation process will see to that. This, of course, is the end of the Bill of Rights, whose meaning will be committed to the very body it was meant to protect against: the majority. BARACK OBAMA BERLIN SPEECH: 'A WORLD THAT STANDS AS ONE' THURS JULY 24 2008 12:58:02
Thank you to the citizens of Berlin and to the people of Germany. Let me thank Chancellor Merkel and Foreign Minister Steinmeier for welcoming me earlier today. Thank you Mayor Wowereit, the Berlin Senate, the police, and most of all thank you for this welcome. Didn't you forget the 2 very popular Rock Bands that preceded you, which is why there were 125,000 people there?? Where are their thanks? I come to Berlin as so many of my countrymen have come before. Tonight, I speak to you not as a candidate for President, but as a citizen -- a proud citizen of the United States, and a fellow citizen of the world. A campaign speech is not to follow????If not, WHO do you think you are? I know that I don't look like the Americans who've previously spoken in this great city. The journey that led me here is improbable. My mother was born in the heartland of America, but my father grew up herding goats in Kenya. His father -- my grandfather -- was a cook, a domestic servant to the British.
At the height of the Cold War, my father decided, like so many others in the forgotten corners of the world, that his yearning -- his dream -- required the freedom and opportunity promised by the West. And so he wrote letter after letter to universities all across America until somebody, somewhere answered his prayer for a better life.
That is why I'm here. And you are here because you too know that yearning. This city, of all cities, knows the dream of freedom. And you know that the only reason we stand here tonight is because men and women from both of our nations came together to work, and struggle, and sacrifice for that better life.
Ours is a partnership that truly began sixty years ago this summer, on the day when the first American plane touched down at Templehof.
On that day, much of this continent still lay in ruin. The rubble of this city had yet to be built into a wall. The Soviet shadow had swept across Eastern Europe, while in the West, America, Britain, and France took stock of their losses, and pondered how the world might be remade.
This is where the two sides met. And on the twenty-fourth of June, 1948, the Communists chose to blockade the western part of the city. They cut off food and supplies to more than two million Germans in an effort to extinguish the last flame of freedom in Berlin.
The size of our forces was no match for the much larger Soviet Army. And yet retreat would have allowed Communism to march across Europe. Where the last war had ended, another World War could have easily begun. All that stood in the way was Berlin.
And that's when the airlift began -- when the largest and most unlikely rescue in history brought food and hope to the people of this city.
The odds were stacked against success. In the winter, a heavy fog filled the sky above, and many planes were forced to turn back without dropping off the needed supplies. The streets where we stand were filled with hungry families who had no comfort from the cold.
But in the darkest hours, the people of Berlin kept the flame of hope burning. The people of Berlin refused to give up. And on one fall day, hundreds of thousands of Berliners came here, to the Tiergarten, and heard the city's mayor implore the world not to give up on freedom. "There is only one possibility," he said. "For us to stand together united until this battle is won The people of Berlin have spoken. We have done our duty, and we will keep on doing our duty. People of the world: now do your duty People of the world, look at Berlin!" Who started the airlift Barack? Did you forget to mention that? People of the world -- look at Berlin!
Look at Berlin, where Germans and Americans learned to work together and trust each other less than three years after facing each other on the field of battle.
Look at Berlin, where the determination of a people met the generosity of the Marshall Plan and created a German miracle; where a victory over tyranny gave rise to NATO, the greatest alliance ever formed to defend our common security.
Look at Berlin, where the bullet holes in the buildings and the somber stones and pillars near the Brandenburg Gate insist that we never forget our common humanity.
People of the world -- look at Berlin, where a wall came down, a continent came together, and history proved that there is no challenge too great for a world that stands as one. Because a President was determined to win a victory instead of appeasing?
Sixty years after the airlift, we are called upon again. History has led us to a new crossroad, with new promise and new peril. When you, the German people, tore down that wall -- a wall that divided East and West; freedom and tyranny; fear and hope -- walls came tumbling down around the world. From Kiev to Cape Town, prison camps were closed, and the doors of democracy were opened. Markets opened too, and the spread of information and technology reduced barriers to opportunity and prosperity. While the 20th century taught us that we share a common destiny, the 21st has revealed a world more intertwined than at any time in human history.
The fall of the Berlin Wall brought new hope. But that very closeness has given rise to new dangers -- dangers that cannot be contained within the borders of a country or by the distance of an ocean.
The terrorists of September 11th plotted in Hamburg and trained in Kandahar and Karachi before killing thousands from all over the globe on American soil.
As we speak, cars in Boston and factories in Beijing are melting the ice caps in the Arctic, shrinking coastlines in the Atlantic, and bringing drought to farms from Kansas to Kenya. BULLSHIT! Poorly secured nuclear material in the former Soviet Union, or secrets from a scientist in Pakistan could help build a bomb that detonates in Paris. The poppies in Afghanistan become the heroin in Berlin. The poverty and violence in Somalia breeds the terror of tomorrow. The genocide in Darfur shames the conscience of us all. The bomb wouldn't be built in Iran, would it? In this new world, such dangerous currents have swept along faster than our efforts to contain them. That is why we cannot afford to be divided. No one nation, no matter how large or powerful, can defeat such challenges alone. None of us can deny these threats, or escape responsibility in meeting them. Yet, in the absence of Soviet tanks and a terrible wall, it has become easy to forget this truth. And if we're honest with each other, we know that sometimes, on both sides of the Atlantic, we have drifted apart, and forgotten our shared destiny. You as a Democrat wouldn't have had any part in that, now would you? In Europe, the view that America is part of what has gone wrong in our world, rather than a force to help make it right, has become all too common. In America, there are voices that deride and deny the importance of Europe's role in our security and our future. Both views miss the truth -- that Europeans today are bearing new burdens and taking more responsibility in critical parts of the world; and that just as American bases built in the last century still help to defend the security of this continent, so does our country still sacrifice greatly for freedom around the globe. Europe isn't failing to meet it's goals in Afghanistan, aid to Africa etc???Even on Global Warming offsets???? Yes, there have been differences between America and Europe. No doubt, there will be differences in the future. But the burdens of global citizenship continue to bind us together. A change of leadership in Washington will not lift this burden. In this new century, Americans and Europeans alike will be required to do more -- not less. Partnership and cooperation among nations is not a choice; it is the one way, the only way, to protect our common security and advance our common humanity. Sounds like he is running for President of the World! That is why the greatest danger of all is to allow new walls to divide us from one another. The walls between old allies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand. The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes; natives and immigrants; Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down.
We know they have fallen before. After centuries of strife, the people of Europe have formed a Union of promise and prosperity. Here, at the base of a column built to mark victory in war, we meet in the center of a Europe at peace. Not only have walls come down in Berlin, but they have come down in Belfast, where Protestant and Catholic found a way to live together; in the Balkans, where our Atlantic alliance ended wars and brought savage war criminals to justice; and in South Africa, where the struggle of a courageous people defeated apartheid. So history reminds us that walls can be torn down. But the task is never easy. True partnership and true progress requires constant work and sustained sacrifice. They require sharing the burdens of development and diplomacy; of progress and peace. They require allies who will listen to each other, learn from each other and, most of all, trust each other.
That is why America cannot turn inward. That is why Europe cannot turn inward. America has no better partner than Europe. Now is the time to build new bridges across the globe as strong as the one that bound us across the Atlantic. Now is the time to join together, through constant cooperation, strong institutions, shared sacrifice, and a global commitment to progress, to meet the challenges of the 21st century. It was this spirit that led airlift planes to appear in the sky above our heads, and people to assemble where we stand today. And this is the moment when our nations -- and all nations -- must summon that spirit anew.
This is the moment when we must defeat terror and dry up the well of extremism that supports it. This threat is real and we cannot shrink from our responsibility to combat it. If we could create NATO to face down the Soviet Union, we can join in a new and global partnership to dismantle the networks that have struck in Madrid and Amman; in London and Bali; in Washington and New York. If we could win a battle of ideas against the communists, we can stand with the vast majority of Muslims who reject the extremism that leads to hate instead of hope. HOLD IT RIGHT THERE! Aren't you one of the one's saying there is no War on Terror??? This is the moment when we must renew our resolve to rout the terrorists who threaten our security in Afghanistan, and the traffickers who sell drugs on your streets. No one welcomes war. I recognize the enormous difficulties in Afghanistan. But my country and yours have a stake in seeing that NATO's first mission beyond Europe's borders is a success. For the people of Afghanistan, and for our shared security, the work must be done. America cannot do this alone. The Afghan people need our troops and your troops; our support and your support to defeat the Taliban and al Qaeda, to develop their economy, and to help them rebuild their nation. We have too much at stake to turn back now.
This is the moment when we must renew the goal of a world without nuclear weapons. The two superpowers that faced each other across the wall of this city came too close too often to destroying all we have built and all that we love. With that wall gone, we need not stand idly by and watch the further spread of the deadly atom. It is time to secure all loose nuclear materials; to stop the spread of nuclear weapons; and to reduce the arsenals from another era. This is the moment to begin the work of seeking the peace of a world without nuclear weapons. Been there, done that............how about something new??? This is the moment when every nation in Europe must have the chance to choose its own tomorrow free from the shadows of yesterday. In this century, we need a strong European Union that deepens the security and prosperity of this continent, while extending a hand abroad. In this century -- in this city of all cities -- we must reject the Cold War mind-set of the past, and resolve to work with Russia when we can, to stand up for our values when we must, and to seek a partnership that extends across this entire continent. UHHHHHHHH.............What about China???? This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably. Trade has been a cornerstone of our growth and global development. But we will not be able to sustain this growth if it favors the few, and not the many. Together, we must forge trade that truly rewards the work that creates wealth, with meaningful protections for our people and our planet. This is the moment for trade that is free and fair for all. Aren't you against NAFTA and CAFTA??? This is the moment we must help answer the call for a new dawn in the Middle East. My country must stand with yours and with Europe in sending a direct message to Iran that it must abandon its nuclear ambitions. We must support the Lebanese who have marched and bled for democracy, and the Israelis and Palestinians who seek a secure and lasting peace. And despite past differences, this is the moment when the world should support the millions of Iraqis who seek to rebuild their lives, even as we pass responsibility to the Iraqi government and finally bring this war to a close. Hasn't the European Union been strongly behind the sanctions on Iran??Shouldn't this be directed at Russia and China???? This is the moment when we must come together to save this planet. Let us resolve that we will not leave our children a world where the oceans rise and famine spreads and terrible storms devastate our lands. Let us resolve that all nations -- including my own -- will act with the same seriousness of purpose as has your nation, and reduce the carbon we send into our atmosphere. This is the moment to give our children back their future. This is the moment to stand as one. Germany has been one of the worst about meeting it's Carbon Targets??? And this is the moment when we must give hope to those left behind in a globalized world. We must remember that the Cold War born in this city was not a battle for land or treasure. Sixty years ago, the planes that flew over Berlin did not drop bombs; instead they delivered food, and coal, and candy to grateful children. And in that show of solidarity, those pilots won more than a military victory. They won hearts and minds; love and loyalty and trust -- not just from the people in this city, but from all those who heard the story of what they did here.
Now the world will watch and remember what we do here -- what we do with this moment. Will we extend our hand to the people in the forgotten corners of this world who yearn for lives marked by dignity and opportunity; by security and justice? Will we lift the child in Bangladesh from poverty, shelter the refugee in Chad, and banish the scourge of AIDS in our time?
Will we stand for the human rights of the dissident in Burma, the blogger in Iran, or the voter in Zimbabwe? Will we give meaning to the words "never again" in Darfur?
Will we acknowledge that there is no more powerful example than the one each of our nations projects to the world? Will we reject torture and stand for the rule of law? Will we welcome immigrants from different lands, and shun discrimination against those who don't look like us or worship like we do, and keep the promise of equality and opportunity for all of our people? Who hasn't rejected torture and the rule of law?? Who you talking about Barack?? People of Berlin -- people of the world -- this is our moment. This is our time. How is it their moment? Are you running for President of the EU?? I know my country has not perfected itself. At times, we've struggled to keep the promise of liberty and equality for all of our people. We've made our share of mistakes, and there are times when our actions around the world have not lived up to our best intentions. And what part have you played in that already??? But I also know how much I love America. I know that for more than two centuries, we have strived -- at great cost and great sacrifice -- to form a more perfect union; to seek, with other nations, a more hopeful world. Our allegiance has never been to any particular tribe or kingdom -- indeed, every language is spoken in our country; every culture has left its imprint on ours; every point of view is expressed in our public squares. What has always united us -- what has always driven our people; what drew my father to America's shores -- is a set of ideals that speak to aspirations shared by all people: that we can live free from fear and free from want; that we can speak our minds and assemble with whomever we choose and worship as we please. Unless you are Conservative, Christian, Gun Owner or in the military. Those are the aspirations that joined the fates of all nations in this city. Those aspirations are bigger than anything that drives us apart. It is because of those aspirations that the airlift began. It is because of those aspirations that all free people -- everywhere -- became citizens of Berlin. It is in pursuit of those aspirations that a new generation -- our generation -- must make our mark on history.
People of Berlin -- and people of the world -- the scale of our challenge is great. The road ahead will be long. But I come before you to say that we are heirs to a struggle for freedom. We are a people of improbable hope. Let us build on our common history, and seize our common destiny, and once again engage in that noble struggle to bring justice and peace to our world. A lot of words and symbols, but nothing of substance as usual.
Dear Barack: Two Presidents stood before that wall with determination and confidence that there was one way to win, and that was by VICTORY. They didn't waver, they didn't obfuscate, they didn't advocate appeasement. They went for the jugular........................ Why are you giving a speech there? Are you saying you are as great as Kennedy and Reagan? Are you trying to compare yourself to them?
