LifeLock CEO Todd Davis has advertised for quite some time that he puts his social security number on the web to show that he is confident LifeLock's id theft protection will work. Recently, he was put to the test when a man in Ft. Worth, Texas did use his personal information to obtain a false $500 loan. At first glance, the case seems awkward for Todd Davis, but in reality this case ended up showing how LifeLock works for clients.
The Dallas Morning news has written several good, objective articles on id theft protection including mentioning LifeLock's service. They also covered the recent case involving Todd Davis and those articles also did a good job of presenting the facts.
I encourage anyone interested to read these identity theft articles by Pamela Yip in the Dallas Morning News. The main point for LifeLock clients is that the case was resolved properly. It demonstrated that LifeLock clients can expect that if someone does manage to abuse their personal information, the company stands behind its gaurantee to make things right. For those who just want to know . . the rest of the story.
The man was caught and admitted what he did. That alone is worth noting as ID thieves are almost never caught under normal circumstances. LifeLock hired private investigators to locate the man.LifeLock eventually dropped charges against him.
LifeLock stood behind their guarantee and Todd Davis was out no money and no bad information ended up on his credit report. This case is a great reminder that no one can gaurantee that you will never be a victim. They can only gaurantee to make you whole if you do become a victim, which is what LifeLock does.
