Trust on Issues
Voters Now Trust Republicans More than Democrats on Economic Issues
Voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on six out of 10 key issues, including the top issue of the economy.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 45%
now trust the GOP more to handle economic issues, while 39% trust
Democrats more.
This is the first time in over two years of polling that the GOP has
held the advantage on this issue. The parties were close in May,
with the Democrats holding a modest 44% to 43% edge. The latest survey
was taken just after General Motors announced it was going into
bankruptcy as part of a deal brokered by the Obama administration that
gives the government majority ownership of the failing automaker.
Voters not affiliated with either party now trust the GOP more to handle economic issues by a two-to-one margin.
Republicans
also now hold a six-point lead on the issue of government ethics and
corruption, the second most important issue to all voters and the top
issue among unaffiliated voters. That shows a large shift from May,
when Democrats held an 11-point lead on the issue.
For the eighth straight month, Republicans lead on national security.
The GOP now holds a 51% to 36% lead on the issue, up from a seven-point
lead in May. They also lead on the war in Iraq 45% to 37%, after
leading by just two points in May and trailing the Democrats in April.
Fewer voters see national security as a very important issue this
month, but confidence that the United States and its allies are winning
the War on Terror is at its highest level since February.
Republicans lead the Democrats on immigration for the third straight
month, pulling ahead to a 35% to 29% advantage on the issue.
On taxes,
the GOP leads the Democrats for the fifth straight month, 44% to 39%.
In May and April, Republicans held six-point leads on the issue.
Democrats continue to hold the lead on the issues of health
care, Social Security and education. While Democrats have a 10-point
advantage on health care, that’s down from the 18-point lead the party
had a month ago.
Democrats lead by six points on Social Security, down from nine points in May. The parties were tied on the issue in April.
On education, Democrats hold a 44% to 37% lead over Republicans.
The parties are tied on the issue of abortion for the second straight month, each earning 41% support from voters.

Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock.....
- DocGingrich at Republican Fundraiser Says Obama's 'Already Failed'
June 9 (Bloomberg) -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich
said President Barack Obama’s plan to fix the economy through
stimulus spending and government intervention to boost companies
like General Motors Corp. has "already failed."
Gingrich was the keynote speaker at a fundraising dinner
for the Republican House and Senate campaign committees, filling
a role President George W. Bush had served for the past eight
years.
"Bureaucrats managing companies does not work, politicians
dominating the economy does not work," Gingrich told about
2,000 Republicans who attended the event at the Washington
Convention Center last night.
Some Republican leaders hailed Gingrich, the leader of the
1994 "Republican Revolution," as a de facto head of the party
at a time when Republicans are looking for ideas to lead them
back to the majority.
In introducing Gingrich, Representative Paul Ryan of
Wisconsin called him the “architect of the last reform
movement” and “the man of ideas.”
Gingrich was preceded by a series of Republican leaders who
also took aim at Democrats and the government bailout of
Detroit-based GM, New York-based American International Group
Inc. and other companies.
Congress in February passed a $787 billion stimulus measure
that Republican lawmakers have criticized, saying it hasn’t
lived up to administration promises.
Obama said yesterday there are signs the economy may be
headed toward a recovery. "We're seeing a reduction in the fear
that gripped the market just a few months ago," he said at the
White House.
‘Radical Agenda’
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said
Obama has a "radical agenda." Republicans have "watched them
take over banks, insurance companies, auto companies," he said,
“and now they want to take over your health care.”
"We’re going to need some wins next November to slow down
their agenda," said McConnell. House Minority Leader John
Boehner of Ohio said Democrats are using their control of
Congress "to bury our children and the middle class under a
mountain of debt."
Actor Jon Voight, the master of ceremonies, opened the
evening with a series of sharp attacks on Obama, something many
Republican leaders have been hesitant to do in light of the
president’s high approval ratings.
A USA Today/Gallup Poll taken May 29-31 gave him a 61
percent approval rating.
‘Weak Nation’
"We are becoming a weak nation," said Voight, calling
Obama a "false prophet." Republicans need to find their way
back to power to free the nation from "this Obama oppression,"
he said.
Both McConnell and Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, who
followed Voight, seemed pleasantly surprised.
"I’m still just reveling that someone from Hollywood made
a speech like that. I hope you’re going to be able to find work
after this," said McConnell. "I really enjoyed that."
Senator John Cornyn of Texas called the speech
"refreshing."
The dinner, which included 150 members of Congress, raised
$14.5 million for the Republican House and Senate campaign
committees.
Alaska Governor and former Republican vice presidential
nominee Sarah Palin and Virginia Republican gubernatorial
candidate Bob McDonnell were among the special guests.
Gingrich dialed back his criticism of U.S. Supreme Court
nominee Sonia Sotomayor, only saying she is "wrong" on the
issue of quotas, without citing any rulings she had made in
favor of racial quotas.
Gingrich Controversy
After Obama nominated Sotomayor on May 26, Gingrich posted
a blog saying, "A white man racist nominee would be forced to
withdraw. Latina woman racist should also withdraw."
On June 3, Gingrich took back his description of her as a
"racist," though he continued to criticize a 2001 speech by
her as a "betrayal" of fundamental principles. In the speech,
she suggested a "wise Latina" would reach "better" decisions
than white males.
Obama nominated Sotomayor, 54, last month to succeed
retiring Justice David Souter. If confirmed by the Senate, she
would be the first Hispanic to sit on the nation’s highest
court.
Obama said last week: "I’m sure she would have restated"
her 2001 remarks if given the chance and that she was saying
that her life experiences would help her understand other
people’s struggles.
Republican lawmakers have sought to distance themselves
from the "racist" claims of Gingrich and conservative radio
host Rush Limbaugh.

We don't hear or talk about the Korean War that much in the US anymore. Is
anyone aware of why Korea is divided and the U.S. has troops in South Korea for
the past 50+ years?
Those who remember or know about the inhuman
treatment by the communists know full well what this great country fought
against in WWII and the Korean war.
The United States is hated by other
nations because the United States helps any country or peoples who want the
freedom of Democracy over a totalitarian government. That is one of the reasons
why Korea is divided into the North and South.
However, something very
strange is in the wind with North Korea as of late. They are absolutely defying
the Asiatic's region on testing their nuclear weapons. In fact they now claim
that they have fully functional nuclear weapons and will use them.
I am
not fully sure on why many are becoming more and more emboldened by dismissing
their treaties and agreements as of late. But it is a reason to be very
watchful.
Now, I don't expect the Liberal pussies to understand this
within the United States. I also don't expect the Liberal President and
Democratic controlled Congress to do what is necessary. However, I do expect
them to keep Americans safe at all costs.
It will prove to be very
interesting on how this situation escalates and how this administration manages
it?
Personally, I am hoping and praying for the best. But my instincts
tell me that enemies are not only plotting but are proving to be very
emboldened.
- DocUS, SKorea militaries gird for NKorean provocationBy JAE-SOON CHANG, Associated Press Writer
Jae-soon Chang, Associated Press Writer –

SEOUL, South Korea – The U.S. and South Korea put their military forces on high alert
Thursday after North Korea
renounced the truce keeping the peace between the two Koreas since 1953. The North also accused the U.S. of
preparing to attack the isolated communist country in the wake of its second
nuclear bomb test, and warned
it would retaliate to any hostility with "merciless" and dangerous ferocity.
Seoul moved a 3,500-ton
destroyer into waters near the Koreas' disputed western maritime border while
smaller, high-speed vessels were keeping guard at the front line, South Korean news reports said. The defense
ministry said the U.S. and South Korean militaries would increase surveillance
activities.
Pyongyang, meanwhile,
positioned artillery
guns along the west coast on its side of the border, the Yonhap news
agency said. The Joint Chiefs of Staffs in Seoul refused to confirm the
reports.
The show of force along the heavily fortified border dividing the two Koreas
comes three days after North Korea conducted an underground nuclear test and fired a series of
short-range missiles.
The test drew immediate condemnation from world leaders and the U.N. Security Council, where
ambassadors were discussing a new resolution to punish Pyongyang. President
Barack Obama called it a "blatant violation" of international law.
In response, South Korea said it would join more than 90 nations that have
agreed to stop and inspect vessels suspected of transporting weapons of mass
destruction.
North Korea called South Korea's participation in the U.S.-led Proliferation
Security Initiative a prelude to a naval blockade and a violation of the
truce signed to end the three-year war that broke out in Korea in 1950.
On Wednesday Pyongyang renounced the 1953 armistice and the following day
warned U.S. forces against advancing into its territory.
"The northward invasion scheme by the U.S. and the South Korean puppet regime has exceeded the
alarming level," the North's main
Rodong Sinmun newspaper said in a commentary carried by the official
Korean Central News
Agency. "A minor accidental skirmish can lead to a nuclear war."
The U.S., which has 28,500 troops in South Korea and another 50,000 in Japan,
has denied it is planning military action. But U.S. and South Korean troops were
placed on their highest alert level for more than two years.
The South Korea-U.S. combined forces command rates its surveillance alert on
a scale to 5, with 1 being the highest level. On Thursday, the level was raised
from 3 to 2, the second-highest level, South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman
Won Tae-jae said. He said the last time the alert level was that high was in
2006, when the North conducted its first nuclear test.
Won said both militaries were raising their surveillance activities, although
he would not explain what that meant. South Korean media reported that the higher alert
would involve increased monitoring of North Korea using satellites and navy
ships.
The U.N. Command on Korea said it would continue to observe the armistice,
saying it "remains in force and is binding on all signatories, including North
Korea."
North Korea has repudiated the armistice several times before, most recently
in 2003 and 2006.
South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman Moon Tae-young accused the North of
"seriously distorting" the decision to join in the initiative.
Seoul has said its military
would "respond sternly" to any North Korean provocation, and that it would be
able to contain the North with the help of U.S. troops.
The South Korean military
has dispatched "personnel and equipment deployment" along its land and sea
borders, a Joint Chiefs of Staff
officer said. He spoke on condition of anonymity citing department
policy.
He said there has been no particular movement of North Korean troops in
border areas.
The two Koreas technically
remain at war because they signed a truce, not a peace treaty, in 1953. However,
North disputes the U.N.-drawn maritime border off their west coast, and used
that dispute to provoke deadly naval skirmishes in 1999 and 2002.
South Korea's
mass-circulation JoongAng Ilbo
newspaper said more anti-air missiles and artillery were dispatched to military
bases on islands near the disputed western sea border with North Korea.
Yonhap said the destroyer has artillery guns, anti-ship guided
missiles, ship-to-air missiles and torpedoes. Air force fighters are were on standby, the report
said.
North Korea's West Sea fleet has 13 submarines and more than 360 vessels,
Yonhap said.
The recent flurry of belligerence could reflect an effort by 67-year-old
leader Kim Jong Il to
boost his standing among his impoverished people.
It was also seen as a test of Obama's new administration, and came as two
Americans, journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling, remained in custody in Pyongyang accused
of illegal entry and "hostile acts." They face trial in Pyongyang next week.
Japanese Prime Minister Taro
Aso said any new Security
Council resolution must be stronger than the one issued after the North's
first atomic test in October 2006, and contain sanctions.
A Russian Foreign Ministry official said Moscow did not want to see Pyongyang
further isolated. Andrei Nesterenko said Russia opposed sanctions but did not object to a U.N.
resolution.
Hong Hyun-ik, a senior analyst at the Sejong Institute security think tank,
said sanctions would not be effective unless China — North Korea's traditional ally — implemented
them.
"Kim Jong Il must be scoffing" at the talk of sanctions, he said. "He knows
the world will forget about any sanctions in the end."

With the current crisis our Nation is going through, what better way is there to bring people together for the common cause of PRAYING for our Nation?
The Obama Administration is a disgrace to the Oval Office and to this great country!
I pity you fools that voted for and support what will prove to be the worst President in the History of the United States!
Thank you for once again bringing Jimmy Carter into my generation. The problem is that this character is Carter to the 100th Degree!

By Kristi Keck CNN
(CNN) -- For the past eight years,
the White House recognized the National Day of Prayer with a service in the East
Room, but this year, President Obama decided against holding a public
ceremony.
President Bush marked the
National Day of Prayer with a service at the White House.
"Prayer is something that the president does everyday,"
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday, noting that Obama will
sign a proclamation to recognize the day, as many administrations in the past
have done.
Asked if Obama thought his predecessor's ceremonies were
politicized, Gibbs said, "No, I'm not going to get into that again.
"I think the president understands, in his own life and in
his family's life, the role that prayer plays."
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance for
people of all faiths.
Under the Bush
administration, the White House hosted an interfaith service each year, inviting
protestant, Catholic and Jewish leaders for an event at the East Room.
President Ronald Reagan and President George H.W. Bush also
marked the day with a White House observance.
President Harry Truman first established the day as a
national event in 1952. Reagan signed a resolution in 1988 to observe the
National Day of Prayer each year on the first Thursday in May, and each
president since has recognized this day with a proclamation.
The National Day of Prayer Task Force, a privately funded
organization that focuses on mobilizing the Christian community, says it's
disappointed in this year's toned down observance, but other groups say the
president needs to go a step farther -- and ignore the day altogether.
"It's not his job to tell people to pray," said David
Silverman, national spokesperson for the organization American Atheists.
"We are very happy he did away with the George W. Bush-era
celebrations and party, but we wish he wouldn't do it at all. ... When church
and state are separate, separate is separate," he said.
Although there are no public events scheduled at the White
House, representatives from the legislative and judicial branches are expected
to attend an event the National Day of Prayer Task Force is holding on Capitol
Hill.
But, despite numerous attempts to get a representative from
the executive office to attend, "it doesn't appear they are going to fulfill our
request," said Becky Armstrong, marketing and media manager of the National Day
of Prayer Task Force.
"The White House is a small part of what the national day of
prayer is all about. Tomorrow there will be dozens of events held in our
nation's capitol and governors from all 50 states have already issued
proclamations recognizing the National Day of Prayer," Armstrong said.
"It would be belittling to those millions of people to
reduce this day to merely one event not being held at the White House."
Task Force Chairman Shirley Dobson said in a statement that
she was disappointed in the "lack of participation" by the Obama administration, adding that "at this time in our
country's history, we would hope our President would recognize more fully the
importance of prayer."

Although I agree with this analysis... McCain vs. Obama is like NIGHT and DAY!
On one hand, you have a Moderate and on the other, you have an
EXTREME LEFT WING idiot who ran his entire campaign on emotional sentiments of "Yes We Can.."
I
am still trying to figure out what the fuck "CAN" is all about with the
Community Organizer who was absent more days on critical votes than present while he was a Jr. Senator.
However, the GAP is real in this article. I feel it and am disgusted
at the RINO's who forgot the Conservative Principles that make the core of the
party!
We need GRASSROOTS Conservatives in office. People who don't make
their career out of politics. We need Statesmen that helped make this
country great.
Where are they today?
The article by Scott Rasmussen is a very interesting analogy that I belive hits on core points.
Let me know your thoughts?
- DocIs The Beltway GOP Irrelevant?
An Analysis By Scott Rasmussen
To be relevant in politics, you need either formal power or a lot of people willing to follow your lead. The governing Republicans in the nation’s capital have lost both on their continuing path to irrelevance.
The disconnect between D.C. Republicans and Republicans throughout the country has been growing for nearly 20 years, but it became more intense and noticeable during the waning years of the Bush administration.
Perhaps the final straw was the $700 billion bank bailout plan pushed through Congress last fall despite strong voter opposition. For all the furor unleashed this spring by congressional Republicans about President Obama’s $787 billion stimulus plan, the Bush-era bailouts last fall were approved with virtually no advance notice and no guidelines as to how the money would be spent. Looking back, most voters and nearly eight-out-of-10 Republicans now believe the bailouts were a bad idea.
The April 15 “tea party” protests, viewed favorably by 51% of Americans, were fueled as much by anger at the bailouts as anything else. Many Inside-the-Beltway Republicans chose to distance themselves from the events, and many tea party participants were happy to express their anger at both Beltway Republicans and Democrats.
The bailouts came on top of earlier doubts. Many Republicans had expressed concern about the growth of government spending throughout the Bush years. Then there was the immigration issue. On that topic, the Bush team championed a bill that was even less popular than the bailouts. Eventually, despite strong bipartisan support in Congress, the Senate surrendered to public opinion and failed to pass the Bush-backed reform. Beltway Republicans just didn't recognize the large gap between Mainstream American and the Political Class on this issue and assumed that those angry about it are angry at the immigrants. In fact, data shows that the anger is directed primarily at the federal government.
The disconnect between the Republican base and Beltway Republicans also can be seen in the recent history of presidential nominations. In the 2008 campaign, Barack Obama, the Democratic candidate, was seen by voters as more likely to deliver tax cuts than Republican nominee John McCain. By the way, Bill Clinton’s victories in the 1990s also followed a belief that he was more likely to deliver tax cuts than his GOP opponent. It’s hard to imagine how the party of Ronald Reagan could let that happen, but it did.
The trend began in 1988 when the first President Bush was elected on the strength of Reagan’s record. Once safely in office, Bush appeared to forget what it was he said after asking voters to read his lips, and he ended up governing with a fiscal policy that was more like Bill Clinton’s than Ronald Reagan’s. By 1992, the Republican share of the presidential vote fell to 37%, a 22-point decline from Reagan’s total eight years earlier.
In 1996, the GOP nominated Bob Dole, an honorable man and a capable legislator, but he was also a man famously described as having never met a tax he didn’t hike. Dole could only pick up 41% of the vote.
Then, in 2000, the second George Bush was nominated in large part on the strength of his inherited name recognition and network. While he learned from his father’s mistake about tax cuts, he was unable to connect that to a larger purpose. By the end of Bush’s second term, the war in Iraq had dragged down the GOP, and Beltway Republicans became identified as the party of big business. That’s not a good place to be when 70% of Americans view big business and big government on the same team working against the interests of consumers and investors.
The gap between Beltway Republicans and the Republican base is part of a wider gap between the Mainstream and the Political Class. On many issues, the gap between Mainstream Americans and the Political Class is bigger than the gap between Mainstream Republicans and Mainstream Democrats.
But Political Class Democrats control Congress and the White House while their GOP counterparts have little in the way of power and influence to overcome the disconnect with their base. One immediate result of this is that senior senators like Arlen Specter and John McCain now are facing primary challenges. Other challenges may follow. It used to be possible for Republicans in Washington to argue that they needed someone like Specter or McCain to hang on to the majority but no longer.
Look for the Republican Party to sink further into irrelevancy as long as its key players insist on hanging around Congress or K Street for their ideas. The future for the GOP is beyond the Beltway.

While Biden tells his family to stay out of Airplanes and Subways, they tell
the rest of America to do something different.
This whole Swine Flu SCARE
is out of a control by a Jr. Administration that is feeling their way through on
how to do things. This is what happens when you elect a Jr. Senator to the
Highest Office of the land who has never done anything but community organize
uneducated weak minded people who have nothing in life but the words of a
charismatic figure saying "Yes We Can"....
Maybe they should pick up a
hobby or read a book instead of being motivated by FEELINGS.
The old
saying is that there are two quotients that need to be filled with people: 1)
Intellectual Quotient & 2) Emotional Quotient.
Obama and his
followers have filled the Emotional tank because that is all the idiots who vote
for him and support him have going for them.
RAW EMOTION!!
But
have no fear!
The mid term elections are coming up and for the first
time in more than 5 years, the polls overwhelmingly show that voters will RATHER vote for Republicans
than Democrats.
Generic Congressional Ballot -- Republicans Top Democrats on Generic Congressional Ballot
1/3 of the Senate and half the House will change with the mid term
election.
Although Obama and the Dems are being slick to not raise taxes
before that time, they are loosing momentum.
The days of Liberals are
numbered and YES WE CAN take the Government back and put it on the right
track.
This time, we will hold the Republicans to CONSERVATIVE STANDARDS
of not spending out of control like the Liberals do.
Remember one thing
people.... The Crescendo of where the Democrats and Liberals are going has been
reached and there is only one way to go from here... that is down!
They
will not even hold their current altitude. Obama has the same ratings that
President Bush had in his first 100 Days.
Nothing changed in Washington
except for a Jr. Senator taking office and surrounding himself with a bunch of
EXTREME LEFT WING idiots who tell their families to stay off Planes & Trains
while telling the American People to do things
differently.
This is POLITICS as usual and nothing but the same old bullshit in a
different suit.
A very EMPTY Suit at that!

Biden tells family to stay off planes, subwaysBy NANCY BENAC, Associated Press Writer
Nancy Benac, Associated Press Writer – 11 mins ago
WASHINGTON – Joe Biden said
Thursday he advised his family to stay off airplanes and subways because of the
swine flu, a remark that forced the vice president's office to backtrack, the
travel industry to cry foul and other government officials to try to massage
Biden's message.
"I would tell members of my family — and I have — that I wouldn't go anywhere
in confined places now," Biden said on NBC's "Today" show.
Biden, who has a reputation for off-the-cuff remarks, went beyond any
precautions recommended by the federal government. In discussing his personal
advice to his family, he said simply, "That's me."
Within two hours, Biden's office issued a statement backing off the remarks
and suggesting he was talking about travel to Mexico.
"On the 'Today Show' this
morning, the vice president was asked what he would tell a family member who was
considering air travel to Mexico this week," said spokeswoman Elizabeth
Alexander. "The advice he is giving family members is the same advice the
administration is giving to all Americans: that they should avoid unnecessary
air travel to and from Mexico. If they are sick, they should avoid airplanes and
other confined public spaces,
such as subways."
Biden, who has three grown children and five grandchildren, was asked whether
he would advise his own family against flying to Mexico on a commercial
flight.
"It's not just going to Mexico, if you're in a confined aircraft and one
person sneezes it goes all the way through the aircraft," Biden said on NBC. "That's me. I would not be at
this point, if they had another way of transportation, suggesting they ride the
subway."
The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention recommends avoiding nonessential travel to Mexico. But it
isn't recommending that people avoid other travel because of the swine flu.
The airline and travel industries were quick to criticize Biden's
remarks.
James May, president of the Air Transport Association, which represents
airlines, sent Biden a letter expressing "extreme disappointment at your
suggestion that people should avoid air travel."
American Airlines spokesman
Tim Smith declined to comment directly on the vice president's remarks, but
said, "To suggest that people not fly at this stage of things is a broad brush
stroke bordering on fear mongering."
U.S. Travel Association President Roger Dow urged the public to "heed the
advice of medical experts" and gently chided the vice president without
specifically mentioning him.
"Elected officials
must strike a delicate balance of accurately and adequately informing citizens
of health concerns without unduly discouraging travel and other important
economic activity," Dow said in a statement.
Homeland Security
Secretary Janet Napolitano offered to rewrite Biden's words for him: "I
think the vice president ... if he could say that over again, he would say if
they're feeling sick, they should stay off of public transit or confined spaces
because that is indeed the advice that we're giving," she said on MSNBC.
On Radio Iowa this morning, Sen. Tom Harkin,
D-Iowa, was less forgiving, calling it "a very unfortunate statement by the vice
president."
During his decades as Delaware senator, Biden was a regular on Amtrak, riding the train from Wilmington to Washington.
Asked on NBC's "Today" show whether the U.S. government should close the
border with Mexico, Biden said
health authorities advise that would be impractical and noted the new flu is
already in the U.S. and several other nations.
Instead, Biden said, the focus should be on slowing the spread of the virus

and classrooms.
"Closing the classroom and closing the border are two fundamentally different
things," he said.

American Ship Captain Richard Phillips Rescued Safely From Somali Pirates Sunday, April 12, 2009 An American ship captain was rescued unharmed Sunday in a swift firefight that killed three of the four Somali pirates who had been holding him for days in a lifeboat off the coast of Africa, U.S. officials said. Capt. Richard Phillips' crew, who said they escaped after he offered himself to the pirates as a hostage, erupted in cheers aboard their ship docked in Mombasa, Kenya. Some waved an American flag and fired a flare in celebration. A U.S. Defense official said Phillips was in "imminent danger" of being killed before the rescue.
The U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet said Phillips was resting comfortably on a U.S. warship after receiving a medical exam.
President Barack Obama said Phillips had courage that was "a model for all Americans." Obama said he was pleased that Phillips was rescued, adding that the United States needs help from other countries to deal with the threat of piracy and to hold pirates accountable. The Navy said Phillips was freed at 7:19 p.m. local time. He was taken aboard the Norfolk, Virginia-based USS Bainbridge and then flown to the San Diego-based USS Boxer for the medial exam, 5th Fleet spokesman Lt. Nathan Christensen said Christensen said Phillips was now "resting comfortably." The USS Boxer was in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Somalia, Christensen said. The U.S. did not say if Phillips, 53, of Underhill, Vt., was receiving medical care because he had been injured or if he was being treated for exposure after his ordeal. U.S. officials said a pirate who had been involved in negotiations to free Phillips but who was not on the lifeboat during the rescue was in military custody. FBI spokesman John Miller said that would change as the situation became "more of a criminal issue than a military issue." Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd said prosecutors were looking at "evidence and other issues" to determine whether to bring a case in the United States. The pirate could face a life sentence if convicted, officials said. Maersk Line Limited President and CEO John Reinhart said in a news release that the U.S. government informed the company around 1:30 p.m. EDT Sunday that Phillips had been rescued. Reinhart said the company called Phillips' wife, Andrea, to tell her the news. When Phillips' crew heard the news aboard their ship in the port of Mombasa, they placed an American flag over the rail of the top of the Maersk Alabama and whistled and pumped their fists in the air. Crew fired a bright red flare into the sky from the ship. "We made it!" said crewman ATM Reza, pumping his fist in the air. "He managed to be in a 120-degree oven for days, it's amazing," said another of about a dozen crew members who came out to talk to reporters. He said the crew found out the captain was released because one of the sailors had been talking to his wife on the phone.
Capt. Joseph Murphy, the father of second-in-command Shane Murphy, thanked Phillips for his bravery.
"Our prayers have been answered on this Easter Sunday. I have made it clear throughout this terrible ordeal that my son and our family will forever be indebted to Capt. Phillips for his bravery," Murphy said. "If not for his incredible personal sacrifice, this kidnapping and act of terror could have turned out much worse." In the written statement, Murphy said both his family and Phillips' "can now celebrate a joyous Easter together." Terry Aiken, 66, who lives across the street from the Phillips house, fought back tears as he reacted to the news. "I'm very, very happy," Aiken said. "I can't be happier for him and his family." A government official and others in Somalia with knowledge of the situation had reported hours earlier that negotiations for Phillips' release had broken down. Talks to free him began Thursday with the captain of the USS Bainbridge talking to the pirates under instruction from FBI hostage negotiators on board the U.S. destroyer. The pirates had threatened to kill Phillips if attacked.
Three U.S. warships were within easy reach of the lifeboat on Saturday. The U.S. Navy had assumed the pirates would try to get their hostage to shore, where they can hide him on Somalia's lawless soil and be in a stronger position to negotiate a ransom. Maersk Line said before news of the rescue broke that "the U.S. Navy had sight contact" of Phillips — apparently when the pirates opened the hatches. Before Phillips was freed, a pirate who said he was associated with the gang that held Phillips, Ahmed Mohamed Nur, told The Associated Press that the pirates had reported that "helicopters continue to fly over their heads in the daylight and in the night they are under the focus of a spotlight from a warship." He spoke by satellite phone from Harardhere, a port and pirate stronghold where a fisherman said helicopters flew over the town Sunday morning and a warship was looming on the horizon. The fisherman, Abdi Sheikh Muse, said that could be an indication the lifeboat may be near to shore. The district commissioner of the central Mudug region said talks went on all day Saturday, with clan elders from his area talking by satellite telephone and through a translator with Americans, but collapsed late Saturday night.
"The negotiations between the elders and American officials have broken down. The reason is American officials wanted to arrest the pirates in Puntland and elders refused the arrest of the pirates," said the commissioner, Abdi Aziz Aw Yusuf. He said he organized initial contacts between the elders and the Americans.
Two other Somalis, one involved in the negotiations and another in contact with the pirates, also said the talks collapsed because of the U.S. insistence that the pirates be arrested and brought to justice. Phillips' crew of 19 American sailors reached safe harbor in Kenya's northeast port of Mombasa on Saturday night under guard of U.S. Navy Seals, exhilarated by their freedom but mourning the absence of Phillips. Crew members said their ordeal had begun with the Somali pirates hauling themselves up from a small boat bobbing on the surface of the Indian Ocean far below.
As the pirates shot in the air, Phillips told his crew to lock themselves in a cabin and surrendered himself to safeguard his men, crew members said. Phillips was then held hostage in an enclosed lifeboat that was closely watched by U.S. warships and a helicopter in an increasingly tense standoff. On Friday, the French navy freed a sailboat seized off Somalia last week by other pirates, but one of the five hostages was killed. Phillips jumped out of the lifeboat Friday and tried to swim for his freedom but was recaptured when a pirate fired an automatic weapon at or near him, according to U.S. Defense Department officials speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk about the unfolding operations. Early Saturday, the pirates holding Phillips in the lifeboat fired a few shots at a small U.S. Navy vessel that had approached, a U.S. military official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. The official said the U.S. sailors did not return fire, the Navy vessel turned away and no one was hurt. He said the vessel had not been attempting a rescue. The pirates are believed armed with pistols and AK-47 assault rifles. "When I spoke to the crew, they won't consider it done when they board a plane and come home," Maersk President John Reinhart said from Norfolk, Virginia before news of Phillips' rescue. "They won't consider it done until the captain is back, nor will we." In Phillips' hometown, the Rev. Charles Danielson of the St. Thomas Church said before the news broke that the congregation would continue to pray for Phillips and his family, who are members, and he would encourage "people to find hope in the triumph of good over evil."
Reinhart said he spoke with Phillips' wife, who is surrounded by family and two company employees who were sent to support her. "She's a brave woman," Reinhart said. "And she has one favor to ask: 'Do what you have to do to bring Richard home safely.' That means don't make a mistake, folks. We have to be perfect in our execution."

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! BE NOT DECEIVED!
April 6th, 2009 4:15 PM Eastern Democrats’ Top Five Budget Tricks and Gimmicks..By Phil Kerpen
Policy DirectorCongressional Democrats reacted to the shocking scope of President Obama’s plan to spend $3.6 trillion next year in his budget (and a stunning $42.2 trillion over ten years) the way Washington insiders usually do — they turned to tricks and gimmicks. They “trimmed” his budget and got it down to $3.0 trillion for next year and about $15 trillion over five years without actually cutting any spending. Strip off the gimmicks, however, and the Congressional budgets still look almost exactly like the president’s budget. Here are the top 5 tricks they used to do it: 5. Hiding Years 6 Through 10
President Obama criticized Bush for not following the practice of the Clinton years of doing 10-year budgeting, opting instead for shorter 5-year budgets. The White House made the case that showing longer-term obligations was important given the enormity of the country’s fiscal challenges. Congressional Democrats, however, decided that the quickest and easiest way to conceal a huge portion of the Obama budget from the public was to simply shorten it to 5 years, hiding some of the biggest big ticket items in the secret second 5 years. 4. A Hidden Wall Street Bailout
President Obama included $250 billion in additional Wall Street bailouts in his budget (a bit of a budget trick in itself — since it assumes that $750 billion in assets would be purchased that could later be sold for $500 billion). Both the House and Senate budget resolutions failed to show any funding for the almost certain new rounds of Wall Street bailouts, despite the fact that Treasury Secretary Geithner has already announced an expanded plan, and the Washington-Wall Street bailout machine shows no signs of slowing down. Future bailouts could cost hundreds of billions or trillions of dollars, making a budget that fails to include them an extreme low-ball. 3. Hidden Tax Hikes
The Senate and House both pretend that the Making Work Pay tax credit — Obama’s big campaign promise, originally a $500 per worker credit that’s since been trimmed to $400 — will expire after 2010 (House) or 2012 (Senate). Obama would pay for those so-called tax cuts (more than 42 percent, according to the White House which would take the form of checks to non-income tax payers) through revenues from his cap-and-trade energy tax.
Cap-and-trade is included in the Congressional budgets but there is no word about how high the tax hike would be. In fact, the Congressional budgets claim, unbelievably, that this tax would be “revenue-neutral.” Congress also pretends that the Alternative Minimum Tax will be allowed to slam the middle class, providing only for a 1-year fix, despite the White House insistence that there be a permanent reform. Even the 1-year cost, though, is hidden from the deficit total through a reserve fund. 2. Secret Reserve Funds
Speaking of reserve funds, lots of them are being used to hide a wide variety of tax hikes and policy changes that would substantially change the overall budget numbers — making them look like the original Obama budget — it they were properly accounted for. The House has 17 reserve funds and the Senate 15, most of which claim to be deficit-neutral without any explanation of how substantial tax cuts and spending increases could be done in a deficit-neutral fashion without big tax hikes. One reserve fund that does have an associated funding level is the Medicare reserve fund that would increase mandatory spending $285 billion over 10 years-on top of the reported total numbers for spending and deficits. These reserve funds serve no purpose other than to avoid accountability and transparency, and make the budget look a lot smaller than it really is. 1. Using the Reconciliation Trick for Health Care
This is by far the worst and most dangerous trick in the budget. Earlier this year I wrote here in the FOX Forum that the cap-and-trade energy tax could potentially be forced through Congress in budget reconciliation, a trick to avoid proper debate and the normal 60 vote requirement for important legislation. Fortunately, last week Sen. Mike Johanns of Nebraska introduced a budget amendment to prohibit the use of reconciliation for cap-and-trade, and it passed on a solid 67-31 vote. Every Republican supported the amendment, as did 26 Democrats. Unfortunately, Democrats are still poised to pull the same reconciliation trick for their plan to nationalize and ration health care.
While the Senate passed a budget resolution without reconciliation language, the House budget specifically includes a section authorizing the use of reconciliation for a national health care plan. This is despite the fact that reconciliation only matters in the Senate, where it can short-circuit debate and pass legislation with only 50 votes instead of the regular sixty. This sets up a conference committee where Senate reconciliation instructions can be inserted and railroaded through, despite the fact that the Senate already rejected this approach. The country deserves an honest, public discussion of where we’re going on issues like health care, energy, taxes, and spending. Unfortunately we have a Congress whose budget is a big bag of tricks and gimmicks to hide its true cost and to slip major policy changes in through the back door. Phil Kerpen is director of policy for Americans for Prosperity.

PEOPLE!!
You need to be aware of what is going on in your generation and before your eyes! These are perilous times we live in. These are not normal times. We are going through CHANGE but it is not the definitive change you think of for the good.
There are elements of power in place that want to wield control over you and stifle your prosperity to second or third class citizens.
Our Nation based on prosperity and freedom is becoming more and more like Socialized Europe. For those of you who say, “What is wrong with socialized Europe?” This blog is not for you. For those of you who say, “We need to have more Government control in the form of Nationalized Banks or Government sponsored health care.” This blog is not for you.
This blog is for those Freedom Lovers who have Red, White and Blue running through their veins. This blog is for those of you who understand what the Government’s place should be and don’t need the Government to hold your hand. Nor do you want it to.
What happens when a company, house or nation runs out of money? They do what is called DISSOLVE!
This is where our nation is heading. We are heading toward bankruptcy and dissolvement. What will happen when we can no longer afford to pay for our military? Borrow more from other countries? Print more money and further weaken the dollar? Just that premise alone spells disaster.
The greatest offense is a good defense. If America goes broke and cannot afford their MIGHT of MILITARY STRENGTH. Then, that gives the flag and green light to our enemies to become emboldened to STRIKE America! The taxes are going to be raised so high on things that you will no longer be able to afford anything.
Have you people looked at or experience the tax hikes to date from the Obama Administration and Democratic Controlled Congress with less than 3 months in office?

It is only going to get worse!
You have the power to stop this! You must relentlessly write to your representatives, call their office and complain about the BAIL OUTS and HIGH TAXES EVERY SINGLE DAY! Just as you must eat every day, you are to call them and write to them EVERY SINGLE DAY! You must be a “thorn in their flesh”! Then when voting time comes around, you MUST VOTE FOR FISCALLY SOUND PEOPLE!
I don’t give a shit if they call themselves the Yellow Party. If they have:
1) MORAL FIBER 2) FISCAL CONSERVATISM 3) BELIEVE IN STRONG MILITARY DEFENSE
Then support them. You “THE PEOPLE” still have the power of your vote to make a difference and you can do it with the above very simple plan.
Who will join me in WRITING & CALLING YOUR REPRESENTATIVES RELENTLESSLY TO HAVE PROPER REPRESENTATION!?
WE THE PEOPLE still have the power, if we SPEAK WITH ONE VOICE!
The time act is NOW!

Well, well, well...
Fiscal Conservatives said that throwing money at GM was just to keep the lights on for a few days. You cannot put NEW WINE into OLD WINE SKINS!
But what did you dumb fucking liberal jerk-offs say?
We need to give money to GM and bail them out. They are to big to fail!
If anybody had any sense in Washington, they would have allowed GM to file bankruptcy from the beginning and then reorganize themselves without the rip-off unions.
So, now where did those BILLIONS and BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars in tax payer money go over the past couple of months?!?!
You fucking morons who preach and push for this bail out shit should be lined up in the streets and pissed on!
I will gladly piss on you fuckers myself because I am looking forward to a civil war to cleanse this Nation from you cancerous pathological deviants who are crippling this Nation.
What do you have to say now, you fucking morons? Now that your savior is stating that bankruptcy is the best option?
I guess the stock market really loves what Obamanation has to say as well. The more Obama talks, it just keeps getting lower and lower and lower.
Pat yourselves on the back!
- DocObama has decided bankruptcy best for GM: report.. SINGAPORE (Reuters) – President Barack Obama has determined that a prepackaged bankruptcy is the best way for General Motors Corp to restructure and become a competitive automaker, Bloomberg reported, quoting people familiar with the matter. Obama also is prepared to let Chrysler LLCgo bankrupt and be sold off piecemeal if the third-largest U.S. automaker can't form an alliance with Fiat SpA, Bloomberg said, citing members of Congress who have been briefed on the subject and two other people familiar with the administration's deliberations. U.S. stock futures slid on Wednesday on the report, with S&P futures down 1.5 percent, while the dollar and the euro fell against the yen, abruptly reversing earlier gains. But a senior Obama administration official said the report was not accurate and that the president's thinking on the situation had not changed since Monday. Obama on Monday gave GM 60 days to come up with deeper cost and debt reductions than the biggest U.S. automaker had proposed in a viability plan submitted last month. But a "quick and surgical" bankruptcy the Obama administration described as an option appears to be inevitable, the people familiar with the matter said in the Bloomberg report. Automakers around the world have seen sales plummet as recession-wary consumers cut back on spending, forcing them to cut production and lay off workers. GM will close more U.S. plants and cut more jobs and still faces a higher probability of bankruptcy to shed debt, new GM Chief Executive Fritz Henderson said on Tuesday. A possible bankruptcy plan being discussed for GM includes quickly forming a new company of the automaker's most profitable parts, while a group of other units would remain under bankruptcy protection for a longer period, a source familiar with the plans told Reuters on Tuesday. But analysts say the risk is that any bankruptcy could be somehow derailed, or drag on for months or years, hurting stock holders, creditors and workers, and causing more uncertainty for financial markets and the sputtering U.S. economy. While the automakers would still prefer to avoid bankruptcy, advisers to both GM and Chrysler LLC have been working to prepare for potential bankruptcy filings that would aim to preserve, or sell off, the best parts of the companies. "Our focus is on accelerating the speed of our operational restructuring and reducing liabilities and debt on the balance sheet," Bloomberg quoted GM spokeswoman Renee Rashid-Merem as saying in an e-mail. "GM will take whatever steps are necessary to successfully restructure our company." Chrysler spokesman Todd Goyer didn't immediately comment.

Iran's supreme leader dismisses Obama overturesBy ALI AKBAR DAREINI, Associated Press Writer Ali Akbar Dareini, Associated Press Writer 24 mins ago
TEHRAN, Iran – Iran's supreme leader rebuffed President Barack Obama's latest outreach on Saturday, saying Tehran was still waiting to see concrete changes in U.S. policy. Ayatollah Ali Khameneiwas responding to a video message Obama released Friday in which he reached out to Iran on the occasion of Nowruz, the Persian new year, and expressed hopes for an improvement in nearly 30 years of strained relations. Khamenei holds the last word on major policy decisions, and how Iran ultimately responds to any concrete U.S. effort to engage the country will depend largely on his say. In his most direct assessment of Obama and prospects for better ties, Khamenei said there will be no change between the two countries unless the American president puts an end to U.S. hostility toward Iran and brings "real changes" in foreign policy. "They chant the slogan of change but no change is seen in practice. We haven't seen any change," Khamenei said in a speech before a crowd of tens of thousands in the northeastern holy city of Mashhad. In his video message, Obama said the United States wants to engage Iran, but he also warned that a right place for Iran in the international community "cannot be reached through terror or arms, but rather through peaceful actions that demonstrate the true greatness of the Iranian people and civilization." Khamenei asked how Obama could congratulate Iranians on the new year and accuse the country of supporting terrorism and seeking nuclear weapons in the same message. Khamenei said there has been no change even in Obama's language compared to that of his predecessor. "He (Obama) insulted the Islamic Republicof Iran from the first day. If you are right that change has come, where is that change? What is the sign of that change? Make it clear for us what has changed." Still, Khamenei left the door open to better ties with America, saying "should you change, our behavior will change too." Diplomatic ties between the U.S. and Iran were cut after the U.S. Embassy hostage-taking after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which toppled the pro-U.S. shah and brought to power a government of Islamic clerics. The United States cooperated with Iran in late 2001 and 2002 in the Afghanistan conflict, but the promising contacts fizzled — and were extinguished completely when Bush branded Tehran part of the "Axis of Evil." Khamenei enumerated a long list of Iranian grievances against the United States over the past 30 years and said the U.S. was still interfering in Iranian affairs. He mentioned U.S. sanctions against Iran, U.S. support for Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during his 1980-88 war against Iran and the downing of an Iranian airliner over the Persian Gulf in 1988. He also accused the U.S. of provoking ethnic tension in Iran and said Washington's accusations that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons are a sign of U.S. hostility. Iran says its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes, like energy production, not for building weapons. "Have you released Iranian assets? Have you lifted oppressive sanctions? Have you given up mudslinging and making accusations against the great Iranian nation and its officials? Have you given up your unconditional support for the Zionist regime? Even the language remains unchanged," Khamenei said. Khamenei, wearing a black turban and dark robes, said America was hated around the world for its arrogance, as the crowd chanted " Death to America." Prominent political analyst Saeed Leilaz said Khamenei's comments did not amount to a rejection of better ties with the Obama administration. Rather, Iran's current hard-line leaders need to publicly maintain some degree of anti-U.S. rhetoric to bolster their own position, especially with their conservative base, he said. "Iran's ruling Islamic establishment needs to lessen tensions with the U.S. and at the same time maintain a controlled animosity with Washington," he said. "Iran can't praise Obama all of a sudden." Khamenei will also likely stand his ground as long as he remains concerned about the United States' ability to destabilize Iran, he said. For its part, the Obama administration must take practical steps such as lifting a ban on selling Iran spare parts for passenger aircraft or considering unfreezing Iranian assets in the U.S., Leilaz said. Obama has signaled a willingness to speak directly with Iran about its nuclear program and hostility toward Israel, a key U.S. ally. At his inauguration last month, the president said his administration would reach out to rival states, declaring "we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist." "They say we have stretched a hand toward Iran. ... If a hand is stretched covered with a velvet glove but it is cast iron inside, that makes no sense," Khamenei said.
