Instead of a detailed list like I made last year I’m just going to post up a list of movies and music I loved that were released in 2008. There was a lot of great stuff out there and I was surprised by a lot of it. None of this is in any particular order so it’s just a couple of lists.

.. ..

MOVIES....

IRON MAN – the best comic book movie of the year.

SPEED RACER – Yeah! I said it!

HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY – the second best comic book movie of the year.

THE ORPHANAGE – Why can only foreigners make good horror films anymore?

THE DARK KNIGHT – Third, but fantastic- it was a good year.

THE BANK JOB – Holy Crap! Jason Statham can act?

TROPIC THUNDER – Nothing funnier all year.

BURN AFTER ....READING.... – Laughed until I cried

BODY OF LIES – just damned good

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN- Why can only foreigners make good horror films anymore?

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON – beautiful

CLOVERFIELD – ....America.... finally has its own Godzilla!

.. ..

MUSIC....

JOSIE COTTON- Invasion of the B-Girls

AMY RAY- Didn’t It Feel Kinder

MATTHEW SWEET- Sunshine Lies

....NICK.. ..CAVE.... & THE BAD SEEDS – Dig Lazurus Dig

SLOAN – Parallel Play

BOB MOULD- District Line

BOB DYLAN – Tell Tale Signs: Bootleg Vol. 8

I'm not quite as much of a Christmas nut as I am a Halloween freak but this I had to share. It kind of combines the two holidays in a way I think I love.

Just a note to let everyone know that the removal of the gall bladder of death went well. See it up there- poking into my liver- angry about the beer drinking fun I praise the liver for allowing me to enjoy. That green bastard knows I've never had any good things to say about it and it finally got me back for all the slights over the years. Turns out by the time they pulled the sucker from me there were four stones the size of 'Concord grapes' in there. They were larger than the doc had anticipated so a bigger hole had to be made to get the damned things out. Glad to be rid of them! Ungrateful body parts .....

I am at home recovering well. Indeed, if it were not for the occasional headache, the four itchy holes in my belly and the off & on dizziness I'd be great. Did I mention that they shaved a large area of my stomach? They didn't warn me about that part of the procedure so I was quite stunned to see my gleaming white belly staring up at me in the hospital afterward. Not that I have dreams of looking like this....

but with my extra storage place for bile now gone how will I ever get to even half this level of peeved?

Well- I'm getting woozy now so I'm off to take a nap. Keep me in your thoughts and remember Santa Yoda is watching.

A few weeks ago I learned (the hard way) that I have gall stones. One painful night, x-rays, ultrasound and a blessed morphine injection later I'm sad/glad to say that the offending organ will be removed from my body and devoured by wolves. Well, maybe not exactly. But it will be removed and done away with.
This past week I met with the surgeon who will be sucking (almost literally) my gall bladder out and was amused to learn that he cannot draw. Not even a little. He was open to this criticism and fully admitted his lack of artistic skills but insisted that he was quite deft in the 'cutting folks open and removing rebellious organs' portion of his job. One can only hope.
But since his pen could not give me a good enough idea of what was going to happen to me I took to the inter-tubes. Check this out!

There it is! The little green pain in my gut. I now occasionally punch my right side and taunt the gall bladder with its impending removal! Take that you damned useless bile duct! Ha!

Any way- On Friday December 5th they will make four small incisions in my bulging belly, snip the green thingie from under my liver and suck it out through my belly button. This will mark the first time my belly button will have served as anything other than a lint collector or a convenient spot for water to collect in the bathtub. If you were in the surgery it would look something like this-

Those are not moon landers on final approach to my stomach. Although that's kind of a cool idea. One of things is a camera, one is a stick to poke the gall bladder into anger and another is the straw that captures the enraged organ and rips it out of the body. They will then cage the newly freed thing and study it in hopes it can grow to man sized proportions and take over the hospital. Or at least get Sigorney Weaver out of her clothes.

So, between now and then I'll be doing whatever I can to avoid having another gall stone attack (low fat diet!) and rigging up a flamethrower. I don't want to have to nuke St. Thomas Hospital from orbit just to be sure.
So, keep me in your thoughts and keep a pulse rifle near to hand on December 5th. You never know!
