Current mood:  thirsty

a glass of wine oh sad guitar

drink it all in 'til the light of morn peeks through

give a little tug, oh no, my  heart won't budge

not now, not today, not for anyone… not you

a pill or purge won't change a thing

the puddles on my pillow keep me swimming

a bird on a wire next to my old tennis shoes

and the light of the moon is dimming

love of late has been so silent

love of late has left me here

my silvery eyes won't say a thing

oh spirit, whisper, draw me near…

hi kids!! so this past friday (the 14th) HELLO SOMEDAY made its debut in south lake tahoe california, at the divided sky...and it was awesome!! thanks to all of you who came out to hear us. the place was packed with friends. most of whom we had not seen in years, and some that we just met. it was rockin'.

all in all, i wish all shows could be that cool.

i am sitting in a coffee shop (alpina cafe to be exact) here in tahoe. we have a couple more shows on the west coast before we head back to release to our friends back east. so for all of you east coastin'...sit tight. we will be home soon, at which point you too will have the opportunity to join the ranks of those who dig what we are doin' and purchase the album of the century!! (ok, so that's a bit dramatic, but we are pretty stoked about it)

and for those of you in the bay area and surrounding cities...we will be in berkeley on friday the 21st and auburn on the 22nd, so come out and say hi!!

ok, well...see you soon!

hi kids. well, we leave sat am for boston to do the final tracking and mixing. whoo hoo!! then off to NYC (sterling) for the mastering!!

(for specifics on the post production team and the motley crue we have had working on this thing, see bloggings... 4).

oh my goodness...i am stretched. the songs...well...i am a procrastinator. so, they are close, but not quite finished yet. they will be however. even if i have to work through the night tonight and tomorrow. funfunfun!!

so let's seeee...mick "stemotions" swan will be laying down the phat low end for us on sunday up in mass. should be rad. he played on "the way you dream" (which is our previous claim to fame). so we are joining forces once again to make yet another masterpiece. i technically should not say "good work" yet (because it is only thursday) but i am sure it will be fabulous. so... thanx in advance, mix.

highlight: do you know what a madrigal is? if not...you will (or at least my version of one) when you here what i just did on "dream awake."

highlight: also, we had a luau for eric's birthday. when the night was not young anymore, and we had all had our fair share of "fun," the entire group (those still lingering past their welcome) crammed into the FMB studio for some clapping and other nonsense...and some of it made it past the cutting rom floor and onto "hello someday." yep...goood times.

notsomuch: question. what happens when the ac stops working in the south in mid july...for the second time, while you are redording in the upstairs studio, fomally known as the master bedroom? (false) it becomes a sauna/oven and like most saunas/oven you sweat and bake bread at the same time. let's just say, i sat in the car a lot this last week.

pray for us. wish us luck. send warm fuzzies. and then buy "hello someday." i can't wait to show you what we did...

so, apparently i am really bad at keeping all of you informed. and i apologize. things have been going awesomely (?) and i am incredibily grateful to all of you who have been encouraging us in message and in thought.

the skeletons for "hello someday" (the ep that seems to be redefining itself daily) are done. the drums are complete. most guitar and vox tracks are down. we are working on the "fun stuff" now. we are scheduled to mix at a studio in mass (Mixed Emotions, Kenny Lewis...A-MAZING!!) and our sterling sound (NYC) mastering date is July 23rd. (UE Nastasi...also amazing) so, it is looking like a release in mid-aug. and we are stoked!!

so...props to sean "pcm" foust (drums). he layed down some killer stuff, and it sounds so good! we went to a local wilmington studio (audio genesis, tommy brothers' place) to track them. he banged 'em out (pun intended) in like 5 hours. a total success.

two nights ago rich "big R" biagini also got his dirty mits in the mix, laying down the fat (or phat?) keys and such. very cool. we are hoping to get him in the FMB (former master bedroom) studio again real soon for more more more!!

tom "college" shaffer...another usual suspect has his paws all up in the sauce. he is our resident Reason magician. most of the crazy other-worldly sounds you will hear are his creation, so, yeah...it's pretty much rad. (funny side note: he is sitting across from me right now, working on his mac...we are such nerds...hi college..)

it is an experiment in the making, and i cannot even wait to show you guys. please please please tell your friends. it is coming...i promise. and the countdown has begun.

ok for the highlight: "hello someday"release date aug 15th...ish. all the songs have names now too.

notsomuch: everyday at aproximately 2:30 (give or take about 8 minutes) we have to stop recording vocals for almost 3 hours because of the traffic outside our house. so, there may (or may not) be cars whizzing by in the mix. side note...if you want to be on the ep and you know where i live, just yell really loud as you are going by...k, that's all i got for now.

drink water.

hi all. so this week...we are beginning to see the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. i enjoy the recording process, but i am anxious to share our music with the masses. however... it was not all fun and games.

i wanted to throwin the towel a few times this week. sometimes this music life is amazing and i wonder why i ever did anything else. and then there are the other times when everyone else's music is better, and there is no room in the music-biz-inn, and all the efforts recording or booking shows seems like a huge waste of time. this state of mind is always tough. so i ask myself, "would i rather be processing mortgage loans or trying to pursue my dream?"

the issue i find is that we are told that following our dreams is for our youth, and then we've gotta grow up and get a real job. enter..."inner conflict". what if your real job is creating music or painting pictures or writing poetry or feeding dolphins, or chasing rainbows (ok, too far...but you know what i mean). i had to step back and consider the big picture for a moment...it is not about me. you know? it is not about me. this life. the music. the ep. the process. if i believe i have been created to create, well then there it is. full circle. everytime.

so...we made some music this week. and it turned out pretty great.
highlight: swimming i the pool in the middle of the day. yes, i have a pool. and yes, i can swim in it whenever i want. so rad.

notsomuch: i keep cutting my fingertips on things. so typing has been rough. (sorry for any typos i missed)

there it is...another glimpse inside my head. enjoy.

we're currently recording an album that we hope to release this summer, and are really stoked with the way it's coming along. from time to time, we will be posting songs at the stages that they're in, and hoping to get some feedback. so please keep in mind, THESE SONGS ARE NOT THE FINISHED DEAL...when all is said and done, they will probably be changed around, mixed differently, and have all kinds of different effects. but this is where they are now.

for instance, "what good" will have more drums and/or loops after the first chorus, and the last chorus will be a little more dramatic than it is. "ice" is in the pre-mixed stage, but we wanted to give you a sneak peak, prior to it being completed. the vocals tracks are not mixed yet, and still need some tweaking. it will need some overall fine tuning. and of course more guitar and Reason tracks never hurt anything…but enjoy, let us know what you think. we are currently starting to plan for the late summer/fall tour to get it out there.

so, today was fun. it is the 2nd day of the rest of my life. (for extra special clarification, please refer to "bloggings from the studio #1") i am no longer a mortgage loan processor. (hooray) monday was my last day. and if i may also interject, ending work on a monday... is a smart move. i highly recommend it. if you are thinking about quitting your job, that is...

i finished laying down some of the scratch vox tracks for a new one called "dream awake" (i think). most of you will find that all of our songs are "new" to you, but this one is even new to us...exciting. it has been in the lyrical works for quite some time now, and found completion last night. this is always really cool. refreshing, even. like a glass of water when you are dehydrated, or a shower after mowing the lawn, or just like finishing a song you've been trying to finish for a long time...

highlight: there are two today... 1. not processing loans. 2. not processing loans.
notsomuch: tonight we went to see "premonition"...do yourself a favor, and skip this one. if you saw it, and liked it, more power to you. we watched it at our local cinema grill (which is awesome. if you have one of those near you...go more). but this diner and a movie date would have been better, had we skipped the movie part.

ok. um, thanks for reading this. loves!!

Current mood:  content
so tonight we were like "what the heck, why are we not documenting this?" and decided it was time to give the play by play of the project as it unfolds. well, maybe not play by play, but you know what i mean. firstly, let me set the scene...

"the studio" - it was once the master bedroom, and bright (bright) orange. but we were all, "this room is way to big to just sleep in" so we switched stuff around and painted the walls camoflage-green (the paint color, not the pattern), which is way more condusive for creating and writing.

"the vox box" - aka the cave (not really)...the second bathroom, of this 2.5 bathroom house. side note: bathroom breaks are very efficient.

"the amp closet" - formally the master bedroom walk-in closet. man, do we really know how to make a place weird.

ok...tonight we recorded the main vocal track of "where you are" (name still under debate). i took my place in "the box" and sang my little heart out. and surprisingly, i am super pleased with how it all turned out. i am usually my worst critic, but i'm stoked how it sounds, and i can't wait to share it with you...but alas, wait we must, for it is just not finished.

highlight: drinking coffee in the bathroom.
notsomuch: i am way too indecisive...we would have been done hours ago, had i not been such a perfectionist.

and there it is. most of you do not know me (us) so let me just say, hi!... 5 weeks ago, i gave my six week notice at my job (it's that kind of job) so that i can really give this my undivided attention. i am just not designed to be a mortgage loan processor. i don't like it. i feel suffocated by the idea...it does not bring me delight. (however, if i processed any of your loans, uh, it was a pleasure, i'm sure.) so, 1 more week of that, and i am all yours! more to come, so keep checking back, or just subscribe. ok.

cheers!

so, we played at the connection on friday night.  the atmosphere was so chill, and the people in attendence were, with out a doubt, the best around.  (gosh we've got good friends).  it was awesome!  we just wanted to say thanks to all who made it out for the acoustic, ambient revelings  of ARAVIS.  you are all wonderful, and we will see you soon.

we are gonna be out of the country for a couple of weeks, and have not been scheduling many shows, but we will keep you posted as we book them in the near future.  i sent out a bulletin earlier in which i asked you to all to send us some places you would like to hear us play.  email them to us, or feel free to post them below.  cools.

with that...thanks again!
