After massacring the game in 05, 50 is poise to conquer the charts with his new album, "BEFORE I SELF DESTRUCT". The Album will contain production from the usual suspects, and is due out next this spring. After the commercial and critically success of 50's first offering "GET RICH OR DIE TRYING". Many fans and critics felt that 50 would ascend to the reigns of Rap Legends, such as Biggie Smalls, Tupac Shakur, and Sir Hova (Jay Z). But after releasing his sophomore album "THE MASSARCE" in 05, those same fans and critics started singing a different tune.

THE MASSARCE (unlike 50's first album) was built to sell, and was loaded with radio friendly singles and lacked the hungry and passion of his debut. After this some critics started saying that 50, "Got rich and stop trying", Mocking the Mc's change of Direction in his music. But even with all the hate, THE MASSARCE, live up to its title. Selling over a million copies in its first week (which was really a half a week, the album got release on Friday due to heavy bootlegging) and sound scanning over 7 million on the year.

In a recent interview with the ladies at Jewel Magazine, 50 spoke about the new direction of his new album by saying "Some lines in the songs will capture the innocence of my adolescence and the stuff I went through growing up". Critiquing himself he went on in the interview to say that he felt that he "overwrote" THE MASSARCE. In a recent interview with MTV 50 further explain the pressures his faced when making the massacre, and commented on Jay Z sudden lack of appeal with fans and critics.

"My second album was the toughest. You are in competition with yourself," he said. "It's always harder. The title of my new album, 'Before I Self Destruct'. Is a reflection of that pressure. In Jay-Z's case, he just ran into Jay-Z. The critics are comparing him to the old Jay-Z saying, 'his stuff wasn't as good as the older stuff, he looks too relaxed.' I saw on a TV show recently, 'he looks like he belongs in the office'. But what can 50 fans really expect from "Before I Self Destruct"?

50's response to MTV

"…I'm gonna do something different….nobody can be me; better than me. That's what the general public has bought into, 50 Cent."

You got it G Unit Fans! Look out for that new 50 cent Album coming this spring.Holla!

What happens when you put a one the world's most talented Chefs, with the most renown Doctor in history? The answer, Only Built For Cuban Linx pt 2!! That's right Wu fans, the master lyricist himself Raekwon the Chef has teamed up with the chairman of the board, Dr Dre. And has signed a deal with Aftermath to put out the sequel to his critically acclaimed Only Built For Cuban Linx. After experiencing the Big Bang in 06 with Busta Bust, Hip Hop fans everywhere patiently wait and salivate for the Chef's Aftermath, Wu tang stew. When asked by MTV what brought about the collaboration, Rae had this to say, "I just felt it was going to be something to excite the fans in hip-hop. Let them know I'm dealing with a whole list of thorough super producers that's making sure this legacy of Cuban Linx carries on. We thought it was a brilliant idea to have RZA and Dr. collaborate, us being big Dre fans. His classics sheet is way long. As well as RZA's."

With two of the biggest rap producers of all time manning the boards, it's safe to say we could see resurgence in New York Hip Hop in 07. To add fuel to the flame, it is also rumored that some of the beats that may appear on Cuban Linx pt 2, have been taken from the still yet unreleased, but soon to be classic, DeToX!

But are these signs of New York resurgence, or a West coast takeover? With rappers like Busta Rhymes, Papoose, LL Cool J, and now Raekwon. All lining up to work with the G-Unit/Shady/Aftermath Empire, it leaves one to wonder is the spotlight returning to the East Coast? Or is the East Coast running west for the spotlight? Even New York darlings like Jay Z and Nas has enlisted the help of the great Doctor to put the finishing touches their albums.

But Whether New York Hip hop is in for resurgence or a takeover. One thing's for sure, with projects like Cuban Linx pt 2 and Detox on the way, Hip hop is far from dead. Sorry Nas, I guess you'll have to find something else to write about on your next album Lol.

IS HE FIREMAN OR HOMO? (emphasis on the word homo).

After heating us up with the Carter 1, he torched us with the Carter 2 in 06. Earning a gold plaque and approval nods from critics and fans alike, but that was the up side; let's talk about what's going down. In a recent interview with Complex magazine Lil Wayne went on record to diss Pharrell and the Clipse, saying "I don't see no fucking Clipse. This is a fucking legend you're talking to right here. How many years them niggas been around? Who the fuck is Pharrell? Do you really respect him? That nigga wore BAPE and y'all thought he was weird. I wore it and y'all thought it was hot. What I gotta go in the store and say, 'I like these colors but I can't buy them because other rappers wore them?'"

Before closing the interview Wayne also went on to attacked Jay Z, saying "I'm better than him, I'm 24 years old. ... I'm 13 years deep with five albums and 10 million records sold. I don't like what he's saying about how he had to come back because hip-hop's dead and we need him...What the f--- do you mean? If anything it's reborn, so he's probably having a problem with that. You left on a good note, and all of the artists were saying, 'Yo, this is Jay's house. He's the best.' Now he comes back and still thinks it's his house. ... It's not your house anymore, and I'm better than you."

But wait that's not all folks! The word on the street is that an underground rapper by the name of Gillie, was the MADD genius behind's Wayne's new style and lyrical transformation. Gillie, a now defunct member of the Cash Money camp spoke more on the situation during a interview with the Hip Hop DX. When asked about the ghost writing for Weezy F. Baby, he had this to say "I penned a lot of that shit, they had me around there. Nigga... Stunna gave me 200,000 when I signed. They was so in a rush to get a nigga into a deal they didn't do the publishing right there on the spot, they just wanted to get me ink. Soon as they got me ink then they wanted to discuss the publishing. Once they didn't want to give me the money I was asking for (for my publishing) then I knew it was a problem. I had talks and sit-downs with Wayne he didn't even know what publishing was and shit, so I start seeing what was really going on around here.  They just wanted me to play the backround, pen some shit, gimme a check, pen some more shit and gimme a check. So that's what I did got my money situation right and skated".

And finally but sure as hell not least, Wayne is facing allegations concerning his sexuality. Why? Check the picture up top, Wayne is kissing Baby!  So is he fireman or homo? (emphasis on homo) I'm going to let you decide on this on

He's the man responsible for putting Def jam on the map. Their most consistent artist to date, his first album, "Radio" not only changed the game, but it changed the charts. Becoming the first rap artist other than RUN DMC to sale a million records. I Know selling a million records may not sound like much to brag about these days, but back in 1985, when Hip Hop was the redheaded stepchild of music, it was Hugh! Since then the man we've come to know as LL Cool J (Ladies love Cool James). Has drop over a 11 albums, sold over 14 million records, and has become a Hollywood Favorite in the Box Office. Staring in blockbuster hits such as Deliver us from Eva, Deep Blue Sea, Any given Sunday, In Too Deep, and Most recently, Last Holiday with Queen Latifah.

So why is this legendary god-like mc, unhappy with the label he help built? Well it's because he's found out there's only room for one J in DEF JAM, and that J doesn't stand for Cool J.

Ever since Jay-Z Ascended to presidential status people have speculated what affect would it have on Hip Hop. During his inauguration both Hip Hop fans and Def Jam artists seemed optimistic, but after three years of poor sales and little to no promotion for Acts like the Roots, DMX, and Method Man. The optimism has turned into a mass exodus, with everyone from A&R reps to execs crying foul. LL is the Latest refugee, when asked in a interview why he was leaving, he had this to say
"How am I gonna re-sign with competition? I'm not a idiot, I can't depend on that man to promote my record while he's somewhere writing rhymes. ... I'm LL Cool J. I ain't doing that, B."

In what some believe is a move to spite the President elect, LL has recently team up with G-Unit, and has given 50 the honor of executive producing his next album. This marks the second artist to leave Def Jam for G-Unit (Freeway was the first). When asked about the move LL had this to say, "We're from Queens. We're seven years apart in age. He knows what I'm into. We come from the same experience, so the music reflects that. And let's face it, 50 reminds me of a place I was in awhile ago. I have been running around on tours. I have been in the suites, and I haven't been on the blocks smelling like Guinness lately. It's fun to work with somebody who rekindles those flames and makes me hungry again. It's definitely working"

So is LL going gangsta? Is he trading in the baby oil and the lip gloss for a G-Unit spinner? Can we expect a battle between the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) and Sir Hova? Well when asked by MTV news about the direction of the new album, and about working with 50, LL replied with a confident swagger, "I'm absolutely going to pulverize these cats...It's going to be hysterical. It's like a Mama Said Knock You Out type of record or Mr. Smith type of record. It's a very good record. My last three records were R&B and more of me getting kinda into the emotional side of what I do. This is the aggressive side. Just ego. I'm getting into the party free, regardless. We unlocking the back door and sneaking 50 people in. This album, I'mma do a little street-corner joint. Smack them around, turn 'em upside down and shake the change out their pockets."

Watch out Hova, LL pumped up on vitamin water and he's got his mama on speed dial.

I Shot ya!

Over 25 million albums sold, two sold out world tours, and more #1 singles than billboard can chart. It's safe to say that 50 cent and G-unit are permanent staples in the world of hip hop. In early 2003 hip hop fans everywhere flooded the stores to get their hands on, the mostly highly anticipated hip hop album since "All eyes on me" or "life after Death". Get rich or die trying, sold an amazing 500,000 copies in just 24 hours, surpassing all sales projections and hopes (they only expected him to sell gold in a week). But 50 wasn't done, after ousting the R&B/Rap songstress, Ja rule, and crushing Murder inc. 50 debuted his crew and record label, G-Unit, releasing a string of muti-platinum hits through 2003 and 04.

Ok, so why am I writing this article? What happened? Well, that's a good question, but it's not really what happened, it's what didn't.  Since the beginning of 2005 every G-Unit release has done poorly in sales, with the exceptions of 50's" the massacre" and Game's the Documentary" (which was a joint venture between Dre and 50). G-Unit has no platinum plates for 05 and 06, which have some fans asking, "Could the movement be over?" Last year we saw the additions of MOP, MOBB DEEP, and the bad boy preacher himself, Mase. But unfortunately for G-Unit and 50, they haven't produced any results. In fact, they have proven to be more hassle than what their worth, MA$E for example, Signed with 50 last year, but has yet to drop a album due to his contractual woes with Bad Boy. MOP has been shelfed, for reasons still not cited, and MOBB DEEP latest LP has yet to touch Gold (lets not forget about Olivia getting drop).

So whats a gangsta to do? In a interview conducted in last months VIBE, 50 expressed his frustrations with the lack of sales, he stating in reference to G-Unit's music, "it was held to standards, its still quality material, so the person that picks it up isn't totally disappointed about it, there was something about our execution of the marketing of the project that didn't connect properly. The music itself was up to par, so it can't damage the brand." Or can it? In 2006 it was rumored that 50 was preparing to drop an album to increase sales in the last quarter. But was halted by Eminem, who recently stated in last month's VIBE that he didn't drop a album due to the "smell of failure" surrounding the industry right now.

Whether it's the smell of failure or a lack of connecting, the fact is, G-Unit ant selling. So as we wait on 50's next move, what can we expect?  Well look forward to G-Unit clothing toping $200 million, a new Buck album,  MA$E getting dropped, and hopefully a new 50 album. Because after all, 50 did say "This is chess/this an't checkers, these are warning shots/ after your next move I'll give you all I got"

"The South has something to say" were the words of Andre 3000 at the 1995 Source Awards. when he and Big Boi won best new group for their critically acclaimed Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. But even Andre and  big boi could have never guess within the next ten years, the South would rule Hip Hop with an iron fist.  In 1996 the No Limit era arrived, riding the success of hit street anthems like "Im bout it" and "make'em say uuh". MASTER P and the No Limit Soldiers single handedly brought "Down South" hip hop to the masses.  Hip Hop changed overnight, with groups like "The Hot Boyz" and artists like "Lil'Jon" dominating the radio, doors that were once closed, were now broke down. Critics, who once belittled, were now showering praise, but at whose expense?  Since the rise of West Coast hip hop in the early 90's, New York rappers have struggled to gain radio play and sales outside the East.  2003 marked the changing of the guard, with the retirement of Sir Hova (Jay-Z), and the emergence of rap superstar 50 cent.  New York was in a state of emergency, with their newly appointed king (50 cent) trading in metaphors and substance for a southern drawl, and a "get rich or die trying" philosophy. Some New York mc's were pressured by their record labels to imitate southern culture, just to sale records. To make matters worse, 50 and G-Unit have openly declare war on the Diplomats, Fat Joe, and Jadakiss. With the city's finest grapping at each other's throat, it would seem that New York Hip Hop is in a state of civil war. One thing's for certain, the South hasn't missed a beat, the success of artists like T.I, and Young Jeezy, have only strengthened the South's grip on Hip Hop.  However if history has taught us anything, it's that nothing lasts forever, just ask Saddam.

"Why would you want war with someone like me...? It's like going to War with Bush "

Is what Jay Z proclaimed in the December issue of the XXL.  His new Album Kingdom Come has the streets murmuring, some Fans hating, and the press totally clueless.  As a Jay-Z fan myself I gotta to admit, the new album isn't quite what I expected.  Instead of opening bangers like the Dynasty intro, The Ruler's Back, and December off the Black Album.  Kingdom takes a more laid back approach, a more laid back Jay, quietly pointing out why he left the game, his new hustle, and  his reason for his highly anticipated return to hip hop, With lines like "As u see I can't leave so I do love you " he explains why he can't stay away.

But is it really love? Or just hustlers withdraw? If you recall in the movie Paid in Full. There's a scene Between Ace and his man Mitch, where Ace, after surviving a gunshot wound to the head is sprawled out on the couch talking about getting out the game.  Mitch listens, but then expresses his love for hustling and his unwillness to leave the game. With watery eyes Mitch exclaims" yeah... a nigga can leave the league" referring to the Dope game," but will the Fans still love me". So is it really love that brought JAY-Z back, or a inner Self loathing that can only be subdued by the stage, the limelight, and tons of adorning fans.

Or is he the new Bush? A republican who cares more about advancing his hold over less formidable foes and starving countries, than addressing the needs and the ills of the people ? If you were to ask LL, the roots, method man, and few other Def Jam Artists, they'll probably say he's a Black Republican.  A Black Republican who Conquered Nasty NaS like Bush Conquered IRAQ, and who is now reaping the monetary benefits by having GoD's Son sign at the same label that he controls.  They'll say this cuz this like BUSH and his republicans, Jay's been accused of only spending money and showing love to those who fully pledge allegiance  to his beloved and hated Carter Administration.

Is Hip Hop's savior? Well if Selling 700 thousand copies in your 1st week, only to experience an 80% drop in sales in your 2nd week, is any indication. I'll say yes and no, but I'll let you decide.
