Interview with Reba McEntire

Ch.L.: Country Music has many new fans in Europe, who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who'se never seen or heard you before.

RM:   I’d say I’d describe myself as a down home, family loving, caring person.  I love to have fun, I enjoy traveling and I love to be entertained.  As for the music I play, after 33 years of being in the business and recording 33 albums, I like all types of music so that’s why I’ve recorded a wide variety of songs over the years.  Every song I record needs to have a message. It could be a light and fun message or something deep, dark and painful. Music can be a great healer. Hopefully some of my music has done that.

Ch.L.: How was the last year for you? What were the highlights?

RM: This year has been fantastic for me, my family and my organization.  I have a new record label, Valory Music Group, and I’m having a blast working with them.  I’ve had two top 10 singles so far this year and I love promoting the CD, “Keep On Loving You”.  My family and I have gone on some great trips and my organization is working hard and loving what they do.  No complaints on my end.

Ch.L.: What's your favorite song among all the songs you've recorded and what's the story behind it?

RM: I love “Fancy”.  Always have.  Bobby Gentry wrote and recorded it in 1968 and I recorded it in 1990.  I love story songs and it’s one of the best.

Ch.L.: There's a lot of work that goes into a Number One hit ... what did it take to make it in your case?

RM: You’re right, lots of work!  Work from everyone.  The record label, the artist and the artist’s entire team.  But first of all, you have to have the song.  The song finds it’s home and when it does, it’s usually magic.

Ch.L.: Do you have any interesting stories about how fans have been affected by your music?

RM:  I’ve had fans write letters to the Fan Club stating that they were ready to end their life when a certain Reba song started playing on the radio.  They stopped, listened and changed their mind.
Music is very healing.  It sure helped me during my hard times.  It’s moved, touched, entertained, healed and brought people back together.

Ch.L.: What do you think about today's Country Music versus its roots and where do you see it going in the future?

RM:  I don’t think country music will ever go back to where it was in the sense of technology but it could in it’s writing and sound.  It always seems to go in a circle.  We in the country music business are fans of our predecessors.   We may do it like they taught us, but we put our own thumbprint on it just for seasoning.

Ch.L.: What moments in your career stand out in your memory as highlights and achievements which you're proud of?

RM: I’m proud of every step I’ve taken in my career.  The good ones and the bad ones.  I’ve learned something from every step.  Highlights?  The awards, the #1 records, the smiles on the faces of an audience when you are on stage sicker than a dog!  They all go hand in hand.

Ch.L.: When you get time off, how do you like to relax?

RM: Being with my family, being by myself, reading a good book, watching a great movie.  I love to travel, go on vacations with family and/or friends.

Ch.L.: What Prive hopes and desires do you have?

RM: For my family, friends and me to stay happy and healthy.

Ch.L.: Is there anyplace you haven't played that you would like to?

RM:  Red Rocks in Colorado

Ch.L.. What message would you like to send your European fans?

RM: Thanks for being so nice to us when we toured Europe.  We appreciated the super hospitality.  We’ll be coming back to see you again.

Ch.L.: Fans are always hungry for good road stories. Do you have one you can tell?

RM: There are tons of road stories in my autobiography.  I’ll have to dig some up and get them to you.

Ch.L.: Most careers don't last as long as yours, what's given your career the staying power?

RM:  I work hard to keep finding great songs, new ways of doing things, staying current with technology so I can better communicate with the fans, and I really like what I’m doing.

KENNY ROGERS CHRISTMAS & HITS TOUR
RETURNS FOR THE 28th CONSECUTIVE YEAR

Performing His Greatest Hits And Holiday Classics This Winter

Nashville, TN – It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and that means music legend Kenny Rogers will once again be embarking on his highly acclaimed annual holiday tour, bringing his exceptional talent and signature sound to stages across America. The 2009 edition of the Kenny Rogers Christmas & Hits Tour featuring Rebecca Lynn Howard will launch on November 27th in Bossier City, LA at the Horseshoe Casino Riverdome. The 20-city tour will wrap two days before Christmas on December 23rd in Westbury, NY at The Capital One Bank Theatre at Westbury.

Rogers’ annual Christmas Tour has become tradition over the course of the artist’s storied career. Always a highly anticipated treat for the whole family, the production will feature performances of heart warming traditional and original holiday songs from Rogers — many that can be found on his numerous holiday recordings — such as "Let It Snow”  “White Christmas" and "O Holy Night" as only the Grammy Award-winning artist can deliver, with the help of local choirs and children chosen to be part of the production in each city.  Rogers will also perform classics such as “The Gambler,” “Lady,” “Islands In The Stream,” “Lucille,” and “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town.”

“I’ve always loved this season,” remarked Rogers.  “I think because people in general, are truly different.  Look around…they smile more, they’re more gracious, and generally seem happier.  It’s funny how things in your life change as you get older – especially when you have children. All the things that seemed so important before, somehow no longer matter, and those that once felt so trivial, now are the only things that count.  My house, for instance, has been decorated for the holidays since before Halloween, so to say my family is ‘In The Spirit Of The Season’ is a bit of an understatement!  I promise you the holidays will never be the same for me.  And so I say to you, have yourself a Merry, Merry Christmas and know that I wish for you, what I wish for myself – that you spend this and every holiday season with those you love the most.”

This year's Kenny Rogers Christmas & Hits Tour will be sponsored by World Vision, the Christian humanitarian organization that is working in nearly 100 countries to serve the poor and those in need.

"We are honored to be sponsoring the Kenny Rogers Christmas & Hits Tour this season. It is a tremendous opportunity to be working closely with such a legendary artist as we join forces together to help children and their families around the world," says Jenny Lockwald, World Vision's Executive Director for Artist Associates & Sponsor Engagement.

A beloved, universally-known icon of American entertainment, Kenny Rogers is a living legend with an extensive history of success, including 20 platinum, 26 gold records and a Diamond-certified Greatest Hits album that has sold more than 24 million copies worldwide. In the span of nearly five decades, Kenny Rogers has recorded 65 albums, which have sold more than 105 million units worldwide.  Rogers is the only artist to chart a record in each of the last six decades and has three Grammy Awards, five Country Music Association Awards, 18 American Music Awards, eight Academy of Country Music Awards and 11 People’s Choice Awards. He’s also ranked #8 on the R.I.A.A.’s list of Top Selling Male Artists of all time.

NASHVILLE, TN (November 5, 2009) – Universal Records South’s Randy Houser will world premiere the video for his new single, “Whistlin’ Dixie,” directly prior to CMT's Top 20 Countdown Friday, November 6 at 11 AM EST
and will be featured in Hot Shot rotation all weekend on CMT and Heavy rotation on CMT Pure beginning Monday, November 9. Directed by Revolution Pictures’ Chris Hicky, the video will also debut on CMT.com and CMT Mobile on November 6 at 7 AM EST.

Houser, who has earned New Artist and Video of the Year nominations for the 43rd Annual CMA Awards, is currently co-headlining CMT ON TOUR 09: JAMEY JOHNSON AND RANDY HOUSER. “Whistlin’ Dixie,” the single, made its debut on CMT.com October 6.  The video will also garner Houser and his single visibility throughout the CMT properties including the CMT.com homepage and mobile and social networking initiatives.  In addition, Houser will be featured on CMT Top 20 Countdown’s special broadcast “Live from CMT on Tour with Jamey Johnson & Randy Houser.”

Fletcher Foster, Universal Records South's Sr. VP and GM, comments, "CMT was on board early and really supported Randy's 'Boots On' video giving it exposure that helped it earn its Video of the Year nomination. And this CMT tour and ‘Whistlin’ Dixie’ video premiere launch has helped give Randy cross-promotional opportunities that any artist would relish in this competitive industry." Foster adds, "We are really excited about 'Whistlin' Dixie' as it was shot in Mississippi, where Randy was born and raised, and incorporates who he really is and where he comes from."

“Randy Houser continues to deliver hits that resonate with CMT’s audience, and we’re thrilled to be the first place where fans can find “Whistlin’ Dixie,” said Jay Frank, SVP of Music Strategy, CMT.  “We are truly grateful for the opportunity to work with Randy on this multi-platform premiere of another Houser hit.”

“As an artist, having CMT at your side is a big deal,” says Houser. He adds, "Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and Sugarland have all gotten a big boost from their partnerships with CMT, so I’d say I’m in a good place.”

In addition, the Palmetto State Quartet will be joining Wynonna - capably handling her background vocals for the tour. One of the most recognizable names in Gospel music, the quartet is led by Wynonna’s pop, Larry Strickland, former member of The Stamps, Elvis Presley’s background quartet.  Wynonna and PSQ have blended their voices on many occasions including her recent appearance on the Gospel Music Channel’s ‘Front Row Live’ series and her current critically acclaimed studio album, Sing: Chapter 1.
