So you understand the blend here. A local friend and artist is organizing a movement via art, and I wrote the poem after remembering sporadic events and such. Hopefully I'll read it at the event, after many of my colleagues (powerful writers) will perform - I'll have my body art stand.

Shorten your life
like a suicide bomber?
No.
And you don’t have to resist.
You have a life to live.

Shorten your hair
If you’re female or male,
they can take your State ID
for the one they’re saving
across the border.
But they will not take your dignity.
Cut your hair to look atypical.

Shorten your melanin.
They assume to know you
by your stamped face.
The darkness can lessen
with a cosmetic cream.
But not your eyes nor your nose.
But the sun’s loving rays always,
always reblossom your beauty.

Shorten your roots.
They think they’ve tracked you
as someone else.
Transplant them in Japan, Peru, Spain, U. S.
Change the wardrobe,
but do not become acculturated.
You’ll blend in just fine.

Shorten your tongue
Learning English/Spanish
– meant for business
and sometimes, for self-defense.
Speech lessons help.
Don’t worry about the accent.

Shorten your legs,
or hunt for a new set
if you stay.
They’ve got
rohypnol to slow you down
bombs at each stone and hedge.
Hatchets for your arms.

Shorten your name.
They check your Green I.D.
It has your rank, pay grade,
social security number.

Ha – Halt!

And what saved you,
your wife, and children
was to dial that encoded command number…
that week after 9 – 11…
and there was Captain Ziemba’s crew
over the land line.
“Yes, he is a United States Sailor,
He belongs to us!”

Let us be aware
when we have the opportunity
to do that again,
for another human being.

Artist name, media, website, gallery, and describe in two sentences the basis of your work.

Must have own original work, if you're representing an artist - work must be original . Crafts of all kinds are more than welcome (must be hand crafted).

Please no commercial items. Self packaged is A-O-K

Photographers with videos/..multimedia - bring your visual creations. ^_^

Any musicians want to join in the embiance is A-O-K!!

There is plenty of wall to hang art... bring a table/chairs.

Do not wait until the last minute! Last minute is within the five days prior to event date. I will need your name and number to make the confirmation courtesy call. Those who call in advance get a spot reserved. If you're not confirmed you get the next spont behind.

Come only if this does not intrude with anything else you're involved with. I understand there are many artists and many events going on. So please plan accordingly.

No need to be there every single month, do refer your fellow artists to come.

Part of the goal for having this event is to see how many participants can be gathered for the 2nd Annual Border Folk Jam in May 2010. Which the 050909 was quite successful! And out-of-town artists are always welcome to be featured.

"Colors of Originality"

Colors are
brightly skipping

pink... red... orange...
yellow... green... turquoise... blue...
and the eighth -- Violet

In the 1970's their meanings change
unity for liberty on the gay flag.

"Know where you come from",
they tell the child born of that decade

"Be true to yourself"
And break away from dictatorship.

Freedom and Liberation...

Where are they thirty years later?

They're there,
     ya just gotta get there.
Be discrete with your Pride,
but dare younot
hide your colors.
Just be yourself.

Orange, orange, orange
of healing, healing, healing

Strange, strange, strange
is the feeling, feeling, feeling

of openess and freedom
just coming out
from the shadows
and the darkness

Let go of the
pain, pain, pain...
It will slay, slay, slay
The delightful sunshine
barely peaking through your mind.

You've got knowledge, knowledge, knowledge.

Flying as high as the White Eagle
with wisdom, wisdom, wisdom
Your friend, the owl
winks at you -
"I give a hoot"

The hooter's eyes
embedded in...
orange, orange, orange...

That wonderous color of
healing, healing, healing

elevates your soul
just dancing, dancing, dancing.

embedding into my senses...

turning the corner

They make me turn...

instinctively...

the same pace

? The stenches...
the flash...
