I can't lie .. it's been a rough transition but great things will come from it. You will see... no longer are my emotions hidden deep in the shadows. You will see... no longer will the creation be supressed. You will see...a whole new side of me. You will see...i have nothing to hide.
be patient .. things take time but they are well worth it.
see you all soon Gambino

I get the question a lot. "How did you become so successful?" I don't consider myself successful at all .. I love what I do and it's really just a hobby to me that sometimes pays. I guess the only thing I can tell anyone else who has this same question is that it's not about being successful at what you do that should be first in your mind. It should be .. do I love what I do?
I have always admired people who could paint, draw, sculpt etc but I was never one who could do any of those. I knew just from looking at those pieces of art that I could feel that persons emotions .. they left something within the art.
I wanted to leave something behind for people to feel as well.
Other ask me if I have ever taken photography classes .. not really. I would call my best friend Jason Noble (www.nobleimages.us) AKA "Syn" and ask him about how to use a camera. My lessons consisted of Q&A sessions over the phone..Thanks Syn!
Now this next part is my opinion only ..ok. I have noticed some not all people that want to get into photography go out and take classes expecting to become pro's etc. Yes.. you should take classes so you don't bother your friends all the time like I did :p BUT .... don't become that technical shooter guy. You know .. the one that can tell you all about photography like he wrote the book .. he can school you on lighting techniques and camera gear BUT he has no creativity.
I have met many like this.. they ask me a technical question and I can't answer it but yet I seem to advance in my / their craft? It's all about keeping your creativity going and flowing.
More advice .. always have a great team by your side. I work with MANY people on most of my sets.. this is what leads you to become "Succesful".
Don't compare youself to others .. you are not them and, they are not you! You can totally copy someones style but it should exhibit something about you eventually. Why would you want to shoot just like them for when what you have may be even better. Sure, take snippets of someone's work you admire but make it your own.
Photography to me is just like music .. you listen to someone's music but you can re-arrange it and make it sound completely different.. do that with your photos.
So .. back to the quesion of how I became successful. Once again I don't consider myself successful .. I don't even call myself a Pro. A pro is someone who does this for a living .. I don't .. not sure I would want to honestly.
Remember .. love what you do and do it because you love to create not because you want to make a buck. If you at least start with this mindset , then those other things will come and you will be successful... I promise.
Thank you to everyone who over the past few years that have helped me out.. makeup artists, stylists, designers, MODELS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, publications.. i would name you all but this could go on and on LOL ! You all know who you are .. and some may not but I assure you .. if I have had a converastion with you .. you have helped me.
P.S. There are times I may come off as umm an ass to some but it's probably because I have had a really long day .. if you have been one of the receivers of one of these sessions .. I apologize. I'll write another blog soon about this :P
Gambino (yeah there are spelling errors.. I'm tired and really don't care ..you get it)

I think sometimes in this wonderful city of ours people tend to forget what Fashion Photography can be. Sure in it's stripped down definition it's all about selling a product for a person or company but it's also about the artisty of the group. Yes group .. all the people that are involved. That's the secret .. find the best team and create together!
Here we have Model: Danielle Lankford, Makeup Artist Misty Al-Eryani, Hair Stylist: Ryan Johnson, Lighting/Assistant Art Director: Jeremiah Laughner, Clothing Designer: Nikki Blaine, Model: Ron Pierce, Location Provided by: GRT Glass Design (Indianapolis), Photographer: Jay Gambino

Why.. and how. Why do I shoot .. because I have to .. I have an addiction to creation.
How do I think of these ideas ?... in a nutshell .. I listen to alot of music. Music inspires my shoots and then my edits.
I can't stop .. it's a drug to me. I picked it up and there is no way EVER I can put it down. It's in my blood now, invaded my soul .. take my abillity to create and I die.
If you look close .. you can see me.

Today I got a little note from a fan of my work, it was the absolute best compliment I have ever received.
"Something about your photos made me cry this morning...then I had a huge shift in my thinking and embracing my creativity. "Thank you" is inadequate to describe my heartfelt appreciation."
