In typical Hollywood fashion, the A&E show "Extreme Paranormal" has portrayed the paranormal community in a very false light, effectively diluting the credibility that many of us have worked years to achieve. The public is very impressionable when such "paranormal" shows air, even to the point that they try to imitate what they saw on TV. A secondary problem is that people often think such "investigators" are the "real deal" simply because they are on TV. In reality, it only means that they "look good on camera," and nothing else. Many of the best researchers and investigators -- the real ones -- have never even been approached about a TV show, and probably never will be.
In "Extreme Paranormal," the investigators are shown performing an occult ritual that included slitting their wrists and lighting something on fire. Their approach seems to be, "Hey ghosts, get out of the way or I'll kick you tail!"
The show is a disgrace and it does severe harm to the paranormal community. The public sees the show, and they assume that the paranormal community, including legitimate researchers and investigators, are really like that.
The following link is an online petition for the show's removal. Please show your support for the paranormal community and serious researchers by signing it.
The Petition
Thanks so much,
Pat Fitzhugh, Author / Researcher

I have finished all the writing for my new book, "Ghostly Cries From Dixie," which will be released in October.
Pictures are needed to finish out the book. I've already taken many pictures myself, but I'd like pictures from other people as well. Only the top pictures will make the book.
If one of your pictures is chosen for the book, you will be asked to sign a photo release that certifies you are the owner of the picture and that you give me non-exclusive permission to publish it in the book. In turn, I will compensate you by including your name in the photo credits at the back of the book and by giving you a free copy of the book when it is released. That is the standard mode of compensation in the book publishing business.
The photo must be digital and of good quality, and may not be altered. Post-processing techniques, such as color-balancing and making adjustments to the exposure, are okay.
I am interested in photos of the places listed below:
Alabama -- Sloss Furnaces (Birmingham); Cedarhurst Mansion (Huntsville) Florida -- St. Augustine Lighthouse (St. Augustine) Georgia -- Florence Martus statue (Savannah); Jacksonboro state historical marker OR the Seaborn Goodall home (Jacksonboro). Kentucky -- Waverly Hills TB Sanatorium (Louisville); Mammoth Cave (north of Bowling Green) Louisiana -- Tomb of Marie Laveau; the LaLaurie House (New Orleans) Mississippi -- Ravenwood Mansion (Vicksburg) North Carolina -- Brown Mountain Lights (Western N.C.); The Devil's Tramping Ground (Siler City) South Carolina -- Pawley's Island (25 mi. south of Myrtle Beach); The Battery (Charleston) Tennessee -- Orpheum Theatre (Memphis); Nolichucky River (East TN) Texas -- The Bragg Ghost Light (Kountze / Beaumont area) Virginia -- Woodlawn Plantation (Fairfax); Cavalier Hotel (Virginia Beach) West Virginia -- Moundsville Prison (Moundsville)
If you have photos of any location listed above and would like to have them considered for publication in my upcoming book, please e-mail them to me at pat@bellwitch.org by July 25th.
Thanks!

This is a really busy time; not only am I gearing up for the busy fall season, but I'm also finishing up "Ghostly Cries From Dixie," which is scheduled for release in October. All of the writing and most of the editing is done, so it won't be long now! One chapter is devoted to the Bell Witch, and the other chapters cover ghost stories from around the Southeastern U.S. If you haven't checked out the Myspace page for "Ghostly Cries From Dixie" yet, check it out! (i.e., add it!)
It dawned on me earlier tonight that every time I have to enter an upcoming event (lecture, signing, interview, etc.), I have to visit a total of about 30 different places and enter about 29 different passwords. It would be nice to enter the information in one place, only once, and then let it propagate to all the other sites, event listings, etc. Dream on. But look, I found the next best thing -- BookTour.Com! Their widgets don't do a whole lot along the lines of propagation, and their RSS setup isn't user friendly just yet, but the site has a lot of potential and I'm expecting many good, nifty things from them in the future.
So, from this point forward, I am going to use BookTour as my master entry page for upcoming events. Does this mean I'm going to stop entering events on Myspace? No way! But it means that I might not be able to enter EVERY single event here on Myspace. If you're interested in learning of events coming to your area, just visit my BookTour page and subscribe to automatic updates via e-mail or RSS feed. YES -- Automatic updates delivered right to your e-mail box!
A situation on the homefront (illness in family) has forced me to cancel an appearance at a paranormal conference later this month (Eastern Regional, on the weekend of July 17th), so I'm pretty bummed out about that. I had been planning to do the conference for over a year now!
There are four, possibly five radio interviews in the works for July and August so far; I'll post something definite once things get ironed out. In addition to the Bell Witch, I'll be discussing many other Southern ghost stories and my upcoming book, "Ghostly Cries From Dixie."
I've also been asked to speak at the first annual "Journey Into the Unknown With S.P.I.R.I.T." paranormal conference in Alabama on November 7th. For more details, including directions, check my BookTour page.
That's all for now. Take care, and talk to you soon!
