I've always lived near a big city. When I lived near Jacksonville, Florida, the sky was always purple because of the low clouds and reflected city lights. Even when I lived in Lake Oswego, OR, the nearby Portland cuased a good chunk of the sky to become hidden by the radiated lights. It's a tragedy that corrupts the beauty of our world, but what can one do?
Living in Melbourne, Florida, has let me experience a world I never really knew. During this weekend, there was a meteor shower. And let me tell you, you haven't seen one until you lay down on a pitch black beach and just stare up at the vast, cloudless sky and watch teh show as the sound of waves gently sound around you.
This apparently is a vary popular activity, however, since I saw no one else down there. Guess some people don't know what they are missing.

For some odd reason, there was a patch of the hallway in my hall, Campbell Hall, that reeked of the smell of puke. It was unbearable, but one would have to smell it as it was the only path into the west wing of the wall (on the first floor that is).
Anyways, our R.A. couldn't find the source of the smell, but decided to use some Oust to eliminate the odor all the while Craig and I armed ourselves with our own bottles of Febreze to freshen up the hallways...
Yeah...if two people are going to use Febreze, then they should make sure that it's the same scent in the first place...
Oh, and when a couple of guys are armed with a scented spray of some sort, be it Axe or Febreze, they'll start spraying each other with it. That's right, I ended up in the fetal position oof some corner while Craig hosed me down with his batch. Though, I would like to add that the R.A. and Craig both startled each other as they turn the same corner in the hallway and thus spray the crap out of each other. Now all we have is a hallway that confuses the senses as their are now 4+ odors floating around out there.

Current mood: excited
For some reason, schools in Florida (elementary through college) all start way earlier than other school around the country (ranging from early August to mid-August). This being the case, I'm already moved in down here at Florida Tech for the orientation week.
Though, I'm loving the whole living on your own experience. Too bad I'll be missing a lot of you guys up there in your little bubble, but I'm sure that I'll be able to see some of you when I finish my freshman school year. You see, starting school early translates to me getting out before the students of Oregon, so I'll be there for the gradustion shindigs.
Goodluck with the new school year everyone.

This movie is so inspirational to me. I think I now have some thing I'd really like to do in my life sometime. Maybe after college I'll have my own world trip as I film myself (and any companions I have with me) doing frisbee tricks in different countries. I'd really like to hit up Asia and Eastern Europe though. No offense to all you "western culture" fanatics, but the landmarks of western europe don't really interest me.
Oh, and my favorite scenes have got to be (in order of the greatest to the least): the opening scene in Bolivia where Matt looks like he is walking on water and the sky melts with the horizon; the scene where Matt is dancing on the boulder in Norway; and finally, where Matt is in th middle of nowhere, dancing on Antarctic soil.

They say that certain smells and sounds can enhance the memory of a time and place where in these occured. For instance, the smell of the golden colored Dial liquid hand soap always reminds me of my grandparents' home in Florida because they always stocked their bathroom with it.
Anyhoo, I also find that there exist songs out there that remind me of different moments in my life. Hence comes the term "summer song." You see, last summer, my brother and I played the Postal Service's Give Up album so much that the song "Such Great Heights" became our summer song of 2005. Listening to it brings flashbacks of speeding across the long Orange Park bridge at 85+ mph and watching the streetlights that bordered the highway blur by us in the darkness.
So as the summer of 2006 begins, my brother and I have already gotten things started by officially declaring T.V. on the Radio's "Staring at the Sun" as this year's summer song. I guess we should thank the academy for always helping people win awards, T.V. on the Radio for making such a good song, and Archelle for planting the seeds of catchy-ness.

Category: Games
With all the time I've been spending inside this summer ( yippy...), I've begun to re-examine a dilemma that's been bothering my friends and I for a good while now. It all revolves around the audio of player communication in online games (more specifcally, online first person shooters...aka FPS) and some of the varying types of people that play these games.
You see, two such groups annoy the crap out of me. The first is that of the prepubescent boy. These little punks run around the servers and maps chirping like little annoying birds, laughing at anything and everything stupid and idiotic. Nad what's worse is when they frag you because then you have to face their sore winner qualities.
The second of these two groups is that of the friggin' annoying chubby girls. Now I hate to stereotype this group as being all of the slighty to completely overweight people playing, but all the people that fit this group happen to be in this physical condition. Anyways, these "ladies" are usually ruder than the most immature guy playing and are always out to prove their worthyness and get some guys to start drooling over them because they happen to be the opposite sex.
So what do these two groups of people have in common besides annoying the shit out of everyone else? They both sound the same through the microphones and headsets. It's the same higher pitch squealing that I am find everywhere I play. And it annoys me. Actually, it annoys me so much that it provokes me into focusing everything I have on that one individual. I don't care if it gets me a negative kill/death ratio, etc., so long as that one individual stays down. Sure I could mute them, but I find it more of a public service to eliminate the disturbance instead.

Current mood: sad
For those of you that don't know and/or haven't realized it yet, I have moved back to Florida where I will most likely remain until I start college towards the end of summer. It's been a crazy six years in Oregon. I've really enjoyed the people and the weather, much more in fact when compared to what I get in my home state of Florida. Sure people whine all the time about the weather being generally crappy and depressing up there, but the cooler, temperate temperatures are very relaxing (though I do like to run around in the warm rain). Plus, the grass in Oregon is freaking sweet. In the sunshine state, most grass is comprised of these thick, saw-bladed pieces of grass that just make you itch if you walk on it. This is seriously going to limit frisbee play to soccer fields where they actually maintain decent grass.
Anyways, as I said, the people in Oregon have been great. They are generally curtious, etc. Heck, they also drive really well...though, for some reason I know quite a few people that could use a few pointers when they drive, not to mention that they've seen quite a few accidents in their time on the road. I'm really going to miss all of you Oregonians, and I hope that some of you guys get out of the bubble far enough to maybe stop by and see me (though, sources say that this will be difficult for a certain Ryan because he is destined to live in the area, aka his comfort zone).

Current mood: tired
God, grad night is insane. Everyone is in this ecstasy of having just graduated and being done with high school forever. People have been sitting around all day doing everything from rehearsals to the actual ceremony. Theres a lot of sitting, daydreaming, and boredom that comes free of charge to any attendees. Yet, the school tries to counter this with their annual graduation night party. The costly and secretive evening of events takes bus loads of ex-seniors around Portland to various events for entertainment, etc.
For the Class of 2006 (better known to some as Class o Sic), he took a long, and somewhat confusing trip through Beaverton, Aloha, and finally through Hillsboro until we came to this Bowling/fun center. I know that a lot of people werent all that happy that we were at a bowling center instead of a place like Oaks Park, but Im pretty sure that most people really enjoyed themselves. Besides bowling, you could play in the arcade with an unlimited amount of coins, do sumo, dance, gamble, etc. They even had hypnotist come in a perform in front of the whole class, which surprisingly turned out to be quite entertaining. You see, he pulls up a bunch of people and makes them fall asleep. Some of them never quite get hypnotized and have to be sent back into the crowd, but the ones that do are made to do a bunch of embarrassing things (i.e. becoming a male stripperthat doesnt remove any article of clothing below the waste). It was amazing at what the people up there did.
Oh, and did I mention that MOB MENTALITY REAL? The class was split up into five buses, in which one of the buses happened to be all of the jocks and whatnot. Just like when the play world cup during P.E. or in some other moment of free time, they began to function with a mob mentality. This was observed repeatedly when the Mt. Jefferson bus rocked back and forth repeatedly until the wheels popped off the floor (lets just say that they were trying to roll over the bus). The guys in the back of my bus thoroughly enjoyed this entertainment. Granted we dislike many of the people on the Mt. Jefferson bus, not to mention they threw strawberries at our bus, we would have loved to have seen their bus roll over.
All in all, I have to say that I loved grad night and would most defiantly go again. Class of 2007, anyone?

Current mood: depressed
Wow, after seeing a few people dressed up for prom and then seeing myself, I feel really crappy. It's kind of like when we watched this video for a drunk driving assembly in school the other week. It featured a young man who died after being hit by a drunk driver, and the video was essentially a slideshow of his life and the various experiences/accomplishments he's had in his life. Anyways, this guy has skydived, bungie jumped, traveled the world, and he proposed to his girlfriend. After watching this I felt like I've done absolutely nothing with my life...god this sucks.
Don't get me wrong or anything about the people that got dressed up for tonight's dance. They look wonderful and I really hope that they have a good time. I just feel like a little ugly duckling in a flock of swans.
