What do you think? Leave a comment saying which one you prefer, how many times you log on to each of them, etc.
There hasn't been a lot of activity on Myspace lately and I'm wondering how many people may have moved to our facebook page, and just completely shut down their Myspace pages. With a more user-friendly and more dynamic interface, facebook is definitely thriving.

Unfortunately, we didn't get any response for the September Top Friends, therefore, I'm jumping into October a little earlier. Anybody who's attending Nationals, be it to support somebody else, or to compete give me a shout and I'll ad you to the October Top Friends.

Good luck to everyone!

Since we've had labor day in September, how about making the September top Friends those people who skydive for a living. If skydiving is your job, this is the month for you. Comment here, and let us know.

So, the National Airborne Day is in August, with that in mind, and because last year’s August theme was the military, this year’s theme is “People who have jumped round parachutes.” Military or civilian, it doesn’t matter, if you have jumped a round, say so and you’ll be a Top Friend.

Blue Skies Everyone!

So,

I'm not sure if you know this, but Lara left USPA to create BlueSkiesMag, and I'm the new website person for USPA. The last Top Friends Contest I found was done in June of 2008. Hopefully I found the wrong one, and you guys know what I'm talking about. But, in case you don't, I'll create a monthly theme, and if the people who fall in that category send me a message, I'll bump them to Top Friends.

Obviously, not everyone can be at the Top Friends at the same time, so don't get frustrated if you are just barely out.

The theme I had in mind is a little risky, because it probably won't generate much response, but I know this skydiver who when she started, got a fake ID, and did her first jump at 17.

So, the theme is: Skydivers who did their first jump on, or within the first week of their 18th birthday.

Blue Skies,

Guilherme

New blog post up at SkydiveUSPA.wordpress.com! You can subscribe to e-mail versions of that blog, too - Subscribe to USPA HQ Blog Central by E-Mail.

USPA's blog is moving on up to a more global platform: SkydiveUSPA.wordpress.com. Subscribe to the RSS feed USPA Blog rss feed and get the latest blog posts delivered straight to you.

But don't worry, we're not abandoning MySpace! Even though things got a little chaotic last month (have you checked out USPA's new website lately???) and we stuck with skydiving dads for July's top friends theme, we do have a new one for August: military skydivers!

So, if you're an active duty military type who also happens to skydive, let us know and we'll put them in our top friends.

Blue skies, and enjoy the rest of your summer!

USPA member Deb Penrod brought this to our attention, and we thought it was well worth sharing. Go to www.newyorker.com/captioncontest before June 15 and submit a caption.

"It's the New Yorker's weekly cartoon caption contest - this one is a jumper with a belly-mount standing in the door of a house, canopy out, looking/talking to a woman inside in a bathrobe and hair curlers.  (I sent in "My instructor told me to take up bowling".  Oh well, no one ever said I have a sense of humor.)

It seems like a great outlet for hilarious skydiving humor, with a guaranteed audience of zillions over the next few weeks on two different hits. The New Yorker publishes three final contenders for the winner and then readers vote for their favorite, which then also gets published.

Seems like it also could be a good publicity/PR exercise for skydiving, with a very affluent readership. Free advertising for the sport.

Thanks for the heads-up, Deb. We'll keep you posted on the winning caption - maybe it'll be by one of you!

Susan and I are here at the USPA SkyFest booth, taking over for Ed and Randy O. who left yesterday. If you are here, come say hello! We are between Sonic (Ulster County Containers and Canopies, aka UC3) and Tony (Tony Suits), right across from the SkyFest tent.

We have ice cold water (and more for after the beer light goes on tonight) to cool you off. See you soon!

Thanks to all our great skydiving moms/top friends! You'll forever be in our May Moms friend category, but it's June (already!?!) and time to show off the skydiving dads. So, if you're a proud papa, let us know and we'll put you in our top friends.

To our new friends, welcome! And, welcome to our little Top Friends tradition. Every month we'll pick a new theme and if you fit the theme, let us know and we'll bump you up to a top slot. If you visit our Friends Categories, you can see everyone who was in a past month, plus Drop Zones and College Clubs. If you have a good idea for a theme or friend category, send us a message.

Happy Father's Day, everyone!

Blue skies,
Lara
