This week coming (tuesday the 7th of august) the angel is closed for refirbishment. therefore we have decided to have rocsoc on trefechan (south south beach, past the harbor and firestation, by the lghthouse, message for more detailed directions) beach, with a barbeque and some beer, its BYOB (not directly SOAD related), so bring some booze, we'll supply SOME food (bring some yourself and we'll cook it for you if you're gonna eat a lot) and we'll get some stereos and have some fun, followed by nipping to the bay to continue getting slaughtered. planning on meeting at about five on the beach, look for rocsocky people and you'll find us. in the meantime have a good week and we hope to see you then :)

We shall not go into details, but due to recent events the committee has lost its president... details of replacement etc. will follow soon, in the meantime the vice president (Mel) and the treasurer (Lucky) will be sharing the presidents duties and resposibilities with the committee as is deemed necessary.

Have a good summer guys, an update will be delivered soon with more information, as its very early and i'm very tired and also updating with very little confirmed information and permission/agreement from the rest of the committtee.

This is really a repeat of the email for those of you who didn't get it.

Hey Peeps...howz every little thing? It's been a good week, I got lots of work done, having almost finished my radio drama script, and preparing to have a marathon dissertation session. Now I am relaxing, and showing Hayley 'The Evil Dead' for the first time. I think she likes it. This is really a reaction to people going on about how fantastic the god-awful 'Saw' was. The fact that it is a rip-off the almost entirely forgotten about, yet fucking amazing 'Cube' is bad enough, but it just isn't that good. It's not big, and it's it's not clever, and I really couldn't give two shits about where the bloke has hidden the key this time.

Anyway, rant over. The elections are the focus of this blog. The speeches went well last week, there was a good turn out, but it could be better, so make sure people come along this week for the voting. You'll need your membership cards to vote, and if you don't have one then we have lists of names and we know faces, so don't try lying you naughty people, and if anyone was planning to bring non member friends along to vote for them, then it won't work, but please bring them along for a good time, coz it will be. The voting will take place between 9 and 12, the ballot box will be on the door under the watchful gaze of the committee, and the results should be announced at about 12.30. I've tried texting a few of the candidates, but if you didn't get my text, then it went as followed. Lou has had the brilliant idea of putting summaries of your speeches on the door so that people know who they are voting for. Those need to be given to Lou asap. Also, candidates will not be allowed to hang out outside the door so they don't harrass people, and if there is any foul play going on inside then let the committee know.

Candidates need to get to Roc Soc for 8.30 for a meeting, just so you know whats going on. Please let me know if you've got this message...

Oh and Lou will be back this week, so you can send any complaints her way. I know you have them, some came up in speeches. Plus there were a few untruths, but I'll let you decide what they were.

And finally...Alt May Ball will be on Thursday 3rd May...tickets on sale after Easter.

Stay cool.

I've been home in London for the weekend, seeing my great aunt (she's 95 and awesome) and I went to see MASTODON with my mate Yvette, also awesome, but not 95. So anyway, down to business. On Tuesday, the 20th, there will be speaches at Roc Soc for the elections. They will help decide who you will vote on to the Roc Soc committee for next year. The actual speeches will be held at 12. That's twelve. I want any candidates there for 11.30 AT THE LATEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will report to me, yes me, cause as Lou is away I'm in charge. In fact I want you by the DJ Box at 11.30 so we can all have a quick pep talk. It's all cool.

So yeah, speeches, Tuesday, 12, candidates there by 11.30 at the latest...come to Bart by thr DJ box...oh and don't harrass the members...and I should warn you...there will be a Q&A after.

Current mood:  frustrated
Hey guys, sorry, i keep on posting all these blogs, and I hope that someone is reading them. Well, alas, this is a important message. It has come to the attention of the committee that some people have been spreading rumours about people who are running for various positions on the committee. This is an annual tradition, people beleiving that by lying, they are proving themselves as future committee members. But needless to say it will not be tollerated. One of the rumours was that one persons campaign was illegal because of the use of posters. This is untrue. You campaign, just providing you don't go over the top. So far, there has been no campaign that has been over the top, and the use of myspace/msn names, as well as posters has been fine.

But if you do hear anything you think is underhand then let us know. Any info about campaigns, and voting will come through the present members of the committee - that's me (Bart), Lou, Clare and Owen.

Be good now

After the slamming success of battle of the bands (that is sarcasm...though Earbirth and the Punk acts were great)...it is now time too hand the Roc Soc reigns over to some other suckers. Sorry, maybe I'm being a bit harsh, coz being on the committee is actually very cool, and quite rewarding.

For those of you that are interested in becoming a member of the committee, the whole election process is quite simple, on Tuesday 20th March you will give a speech to the people of Roc Soc, and on Tuesday 27th March the people vote, and on that very same night, you'll find out whether you've bought enough drinks for people over the year.

All you have to do is decide which position you wish to run for, if you want to run at all, because you don't actually have to, I should stress that. Wouldn't want you to feel forced.

There are six poistions available, and I shall describe them here, not only for the benefit of those who wish to run for them, but also for those who want an educated voting experience.

So here goes, the six positions, in order of power, starting with the most powerful..

President: You HAVE to be a student to run for this position, and you have to be quite a together person. It isn't as hard as many would make out, but you have to be able to organise people, guide the committee, and above all, listen, it isn't a dictatorship, you won't be the supreme commander. You won't have all the jobs to do, and you can't just give them to others, you just have to make sure it gets done.

Treasurer: Again not as hard as you may, you simply have to count the cash up after every Roc Soc, and when President ask more money, you give it too them, or argue back.

Secretary: You take notes at meeting, and work as the presidnts bitch. Simple. A good job.

Vice President: You are in charge of the DJ rota...can be as hard as you mak it.

PR: Organise Posters (with help), and any adverts. An ability to draw can help. Creativity and organisation is a must.

Events: You are not on your own in sorting events, but you will be expected to know bands, and get PAs sorted.

When I say order of power, I don't mean who has more say, because everyone has an equal vote.

After you are elected, you will then be made to sit in on meetings, and quietly see how things are done. You will be the bitch of the old committee when we organise the Alt May Ball, and when the lights go up after that event, and the old committee is already on it's way to the Bay, off our faces, it's all yours.

Good luck.

This unfortunately is going to have to be an apology. This friday we (Roc Soc) were due to have a battle of the bands, but as per usual, Roc Socs luck with bands is far from great (I think someone broke a mirror), and we've had to cancel the event. We tried everything to get bands, myspace, emails, friends, friends of friends. We even had one, and they cancelled. Now I know there those out there who don't like the committee, and will hack into this, but this was out of our control. Alas there seems to be no interest in Rock bands, and travelling isn't everyones cup of tea. Punk Sock seem to have the connections, and Indie bands are a time a dozen in a student town. The location of Aber doesn't help, and it certainly isn't like putting a gig on in Cardiff (which will surprise some people), though this is no excuse, so I apologise again. We will attempt another gig, though we won't hold our breath.

This will anger some people, and others it will please, as it will give them an excuse to rip into us more. All I can say is we tried our best, our very best, things were just beyond our control. If you think you can do better, elections are next month. But I'm just angry, there's nothing like seeing lots of hard work go to waste.

Sure, you've probably seen this message before, but I've added an interesting bit at the end. But still, if you know a band...don't hesitate....YOU'RE HESITATING!!!!!!!

This is a bit of strange request, but I'll be putting this out a few times, just a out of hope that there are responces. On Friday, that's this Friday, 2nd March, Roc Soc is hosting a battle of the bands at the Angel from 9pm. It should be a great night, so come along. There is just one problem. We only have one band. Now that one band, the mighty Iron Beard, are fucking awesome. But we need three. So I'm asking you guys, the members, if you know a great band, or bands, that can get to Aber by Friday evening. For those of you who have been to the Indie and Punk legs of the Battle of the Bands then you'll know what quality we're looking for. Basically, a decent amount of original songs, and appeal, and talent. If any of you can get us this, well there may be a reward (something like buying you A drink before excitement reaches fever pitch). But seriously, if you can help us out, let me, or any of the committee know ASAP and we'll see if something can be arranged.

It's a pity, because at the moment, the Rock scene seems to be on a bit of down slide. Modern rock, as in that the is coming through kerrang and metal hammer, lacks balls. No one is taking any risks with sound, and I think that it is causing a lack of passion in fans. How can someone get passionate about bands that do not earn it. Hopefully this years download festival will uncover some new acts, coause we're all after the same thing, LOUD NOISES, and we spend enough on cds, so isn't it about time the record labels rewarded this with some worthwile out put. Haven't we done enough lord, isn't it time that you gave us something to get honestly excited about. Because at the moment all I have is Mike Patton, and my Mates are starting to get really worried about me. So if you have a band, or know of one that can be of service to Roc Soc on Friday ley me know.

otherwise I'm gonna have to create my Mr Bungle/Devin Townsend/Alabama 3/Tool/Pearl Jam/Mastodon hybrid band. And it won't be pretty. All I have to do is learn guitar.

Oh and I hope you fine people of Roc Soc don't think it's an attack on you, coz it isn't. It's Mr RoadRunner that I'm angry with.
