There were so many setbacks, but I never once doubted that I would be able to finish it.

There were times that I cried because I was so tired, or so broke, but that didn't stop me.

All the nights at class, all the weekends given up to homework.

528 drives to New Orleans.

~59,000 miles on my truck

Three and a half years of my life dedicated to my education

An uncounted number of Red Bull drinks

Twelve years of trying
8 of which were spent in the Army
1 of which was spent in the Middle East

$70K in debt

And even after all of that, I never once thought I couldn't do it.

If you are reading this, and you have a dream, let me stand here as proof to you today, that if you can dream it, you CAN do it.

All it takes is some dedication, a strong desire to succeed, and never giving up.

No one ever said it was going to be easy.  And it wasn't.

No one ever said it was going to be free, and it sure as hell wasn't.

But now that it's all finished, I can honestly say

It was worth it all

Thank you Lord, for letting me do this
Thank you to my friends, and family, by sticking by me through it all

I always liked the way the old radio communication of the Apollo astronauts sounded.  The distorted voice, the beep at the end of each transmission.  There always was something about it that was just awesome to me.

One time when I was installing computers on a Chouest vessel (the Celena Chouest), they were testing out the external speakers on the deck.  As I was carrying equipment up to the bridge, I heard them giving a count-down, and that reminded me of the moon transmissions.

Right now I've come to the final countdown of my time in college.  It is very possible that I will never be able to go back to school, because I just can't afford it.  BUT, God was good enough to let me get TWO degrees, so I am not complaining!!

I keep thinking that I can't wait for it to be over, but I know in a few weeks I'm going to be missing it.  I am honestly looking forward to having my life back again, and being free from the burden of reports, presentations, and homework.

I am planning on continuing my education in the way of certifications.  There are about 10 of these I want, and I'm hoping that my job will pay for it (since I honestly don't make what I am worth there).

Regardless, this is going to be a big change in my life, and yes, I am looking forward to it.  There are some very special people out there I want to spend some time with, and so many computers that need my attention lol.

Peace --  Stephen

Twenty three days left until classes let out, and I am officially _done_ with school (ok, at least until I start certs in June lol).  I can't wait, cause I really am under a lot of stress and I feel like all my friends hate me because I'm always in a rush/ don't get to spend any time with them.  So to all my friends (especially the girls ;-) I love you _all_ very much.  Peace!

I just added some new friends, been so long since I actually had time to do that!  So, here's a little narrative to let you all know what is going on in the world of Stephen Dye.

School started back this week, with my Linux Security class running late Monday night (as usual, still sucks).  I complain, but it's all in jest.  I really don't think anyone can be as thankful to be in school as I am.  I've got 218 days until I earn my bachelor degree, and very possibly, graduate a second time as the class valedictorian.

I'm also through with vacation and back to work.  It is busy as heck, and I feel like I'm balancing three jobs right now (finishing training with Chris, tech support, and learning server admin).  It's cool though because I love to stay busy, I just feel like I never get enough done.

Family life is going great, even though Meagan works just as much as I do, so we really only get to say goodnight during the week, but for the most part the weekends are ours.  This past weekend we went watch her niece in a gymnast meet in Thibodaux.  I also have been able to spend a little more time with my Mom and brother, although I wish it could be more.  During Christmas break I was able to see lots of my friends I haven't seen in years, and that sure felt good.

Well, I'm coming down with some kind of freaky cold, so I need to get some rest.  Take care everyone, love and peace --stephen

Let me start by wishing everyone reading this a very warm and peaceful holiday season.  Don't forget that the best gift you can give anyone is spending time with them.

When I moved out of my Mom's house, after my Maw-Maw passed away, I left some of my things there.  I moved in with my best friend, Danny Gros, at his rent house in Galliano, then we eventually moved to the house he bought in Cut-Off.  At the beginning of this year I moved into an apartment at my g/f's home.  Throughout all these moves there is boxes of my stuff I had never unpacked.  Today, I went to my Mom's house to set up her Christmas tree, and decided to grab the rest of my things.

Little did I know that there was like a whole truckload of stuff!  Now I've got all this stuff to deal with.  I started going through it this afternoon, and found all kinds of photos I forgot all about.  Remember, I moved out of my Mom's sometime in 2005, so it hasn't even been 4 years, but looking through that stuff made me realize how much of my life had been flying by while I focused on school and work.  For example, I finally got to go visit my GodChild Morgan and her parents Artie and Ari this week.  It had been at least six months since I got to see her.

The lesson here is, do not let your life pass you by.  Time is something that quickly slips away, and you can NEVER get it back.  So, take some time this holiday season to visit family and friends you may not have seen in awhile.  I know I will.

Peace

Yesterday I got a promotion at work.  I'll start training Chris Bruce as my replacement on Monday.  He is really excited because with his new position came a huge raise.  I'm looking forward to doing new things at work and using some of the things I learned at school in the real world.

Well, got Statistics class in the morning, so time for a shower then bed.  Peace

A long week, even though it's only half way over.  Waiting for my box lunch to finish cooking in the toaster oven.  Having a BL-Lime.  Trying to relax and not go crazy as I continue to work even though work ended a few hours ago.  Statistics class sucks but I'm keeping up through hard work.  The other classes are a joke.  I can't wait to graduate and actually have some free time again.  Hope you are all doing well.  Leave me some love.  Peace --stephen

Just an update for all you My-Spacers out there.  Things have been hella crazy since the storms for me.  We evacuated with Meagan's family, and I haven't stopped running since we came home.  Work, which was retarded-busy before, has doubled its pace.  The good news is that hopefully the 12-year old (Chris) will be taking part of my job soon.  School started a week late, but they decided to just drop that week rather than trying to make it up.  This semester I've got Statistics (ugh!), User Authentication, and World Culture.

Overall I'm pretty happy, but I'm really looking forward to graduation and some free time and peace...write me if you get a chance, always good to hear from my friends.

Peace.

Current mood:  sleepy
I just woke up out of nowhere, and now I can’t seem to get back to sleep. I’ve got a computer to work on, but I’m waiting for some files to copy so I can’t really do much there right now. This weekend Meagan is teaching a lifeguarding class in Slidell, so I’m on my own here. It wasn’t too bad, because Friday after work I had school. It was after 11pm by the time I got back. I went straight to bed, then had class again Saturday morning. After school Wilson Cheramie came over and we watched Cloverfield while working on his computer. I got to talk to Meagan again last night before I fell asleep, probably sometime around 9-10pm (I know, gramps has to get to bed early now!). So, I guess you never really realize what its like sleeping next to someone every night of your life until they are not there. It’s like something is wrong with nature, like the moon is spinning the wrong way or something. I sure do miss her...

Speaking of the moon, I have not given up on working for NASA one day. Meagan said it best, that right now I should not worry about a career change, but focus on school. If I can test out of one more class then I will graduate in March 2009. And, since I’m still holding a 4.0 average, I should be valedictorian again. That would be awesome!

I work alot lately, and that is why most of you never hear from me anymore. And when I’m not working I’m at school. LOL and when I’m not working I’m probably watching the newest Japanese release of Bleach or Naruto, or cutting grass, or sleeping, or washing someone’s car/ truck/ 4-wheeler/ bike.

I really like what my life is, but I sure can’t wait to graduate. Sounds kinda like when I was in high school. In a rush to get out, but once its done you are scratching your head saying "What next?". Well, after I graduate I plan to take some time off from studying, then I’ll be working on certifications (A+, Net+, Security+, CISSP, etc).

Hopefully after graduation I’ll have more time to spend with my family and friends. I feel like the world just keeps on moving faster and faster. I guess this is what growing up is about.
