Hi Everyone!
It's hard to believe that we've been meeting once a month for over four years now. All of you have been loyal friends, supporters, and readers of my monthly newsletter, and I look forward to continuing our relationship.
As you can imagine, it has been difficult with the many ensuing details resulting from my father's death one month ago. I still have much to do, which consumes most of my time, but I am working through it. I am so lucky to have a husband like Dana, who has been my rock!
The amazing thing is that I have been hearing from people, from all over the US, almost every day about Dad, which as been very comforting to me. Many cared about my father, and it is so nice to see that he will not be forgotten. I cannot express how much I've appreciated the cards, the gifts, the emails, and the many other ways that all of you have reached out to me, to express your condolences and support. Whether you knew my dad, or just know me, you have all been wonderful ... thank you.
Of course, I still have a business to run, and clients to help with their writing and editing projects. I am happy to say that I've just finished writing a book for one of my clients. I think I mentioned this project to you, a few months ago. It is exciting to reach this point, knowing that I am helping someone to share an important story.
Writing a book is a huge endeavor that requires full-time hours and meticulous attention to detail. Therefore, we still have more planning to do, before I can publicly release any information. However, when my client is ready, and when we officially release this book for publication – you will be the first to know. I look forward to sharing it with all of you.
Finally, I would like to welcome a few new readers, who have joined Serendipity this month. Thank you for subscribing, and I hope this will be an enjoyable journey for you! As always, thank you everyone for your love, friendship, and unyielding support. Talk to you next month. ~Angel Please visit the links below to read more information about my book and me, or to order a copy of Wings of an Angel Poetry Collection. It is great to have you here, and Angel hopes you enjoy reading this month’s Serendipity. Hi Everyone! Forgive me, but Serendipity will be brief this month, as I have some sad news. My Father passed away yesterday, after a long battle with cancer. My Dad was quite a fighter, and he exceeded everyone's expectations, by shocking his doctors frequently with his ability to prevail. He enjoyed life, and did not have any intentions of letting cancer beat him. Unfortunately, his body could not withstand all of the abuse that the cancer inflicted upon him, but my Dad died very peacefully in his sleep. My Dad left this world far too soon, and he will be missed by many. For those of you, who knew my Dad -- at his request, there will not be a memorial service or calling hours. Dad would want you to celebrate his life, by asking each of you to do something special for yourself or for someone else to honor his memory, as Dad was known for always helping others whenever he could. A private burial ceremony will be held at the family plot. Condolences can be sent to: Angel Logan, PO Box 540234, Waltham, MA, 02454-0234 As always, thank you everyone for your love, friendship, and unyielding support. Talk to you next month. ~Angel

SERENDIPITY by Angel Logan Welcome new and long time subscribers! Serendipity is not your traditional style newsletter. It is Angel Logan's unique way of reaching out to you, her readers, and friends – to stay in touch, to give updates on her writing career, and to share a few of the personal and professional pearls of wisdom that she has acquired along her journey. It is great to have you here, and Angel hopes you enjoy reading this month’s Serendipity. Hi Everyone! WOW, talk about a heat wave! It seems that August made up for July. (HAHA) However, I am not complaining. I love the summer weather, and I would rather it be too hot than too cold! I appreciate all of the good wishes and prayers that have been coming all month regarding my Dad. He has had a tough time, but he is clearly a fighter. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts. This month, I would like to share something with all of you that is a bit different from my usual topics of discussion. I recently discovered a new regulation in Massachusetts regarding senior citizens that concerns me, and should concern everyone. Many seniors living with limited budgets, receiving disability or social security benefits must utilize the state's subsidized health insurance to pay for medical expenses. In Massachusetts, we call it Mass Health. When senior citizens collecting Social Security approach 65 years of age, the Social Security Administration lifts the $2,000 asset limitation imposed upon them. However, if that senior resides in Massachusetts and receives Mass Health for health insurance benefits, Mass Health implements that same asset limitation upon their seniors, when they turn 65. In addition, if their life insurance policies have a face value that exceeds $1,500, they risk losing their health insurance benefits. Yes, you read that correctly. I would not have believed it, if I had not read it in black and white. The only option that a senior citizen has is to immediately cash out his or her life insurance policy, put those funds into a trust for funeral services, and provide Mass Health with the documentation to verify that the funds went into the trust. Okay, this seems like a simple solution, but think about it – contingent upon when the seniors purchased their life insurance plans, the face value may not have appreciated to a reasonable amount, to pay for funeral services. For example, if the individual's policy has a face value of $2,000, he or she only has a third of what is necessary to cover funeral services. Life insurance policies are supposed to provide people with a sense of security, knowing that their funeral costs will be covered, along with any residual bills, or provide financial security for a spouse or loved one. However, with this type of state regulation, senior citizens lose that security, and have to worry about the future. They have to make payments to cover the high cost of their funeral services, and they have to worry about being alive long enough to make all of the necessary payments. In addition, they have to worry about their loved ones having to assume financial responsibility for their funeral services or any unpaid bills. In addition, if they leave a spouse behind, there will not be any funds left to provide their spouse with financial security. I find this very distressing, and while it isn't the typical, positive topic I would normally discuss with you, I wanted to give all of you some food for thought, because this may not be in Massachusetts only. Other states may have the same type of regulations, and not everyone can afford to pay for funeral services if their parents pass away unexpectedly. The sad part is that the lawmakers, who create these regulations may not have these types of fiscal concerns regarding their own parents' financial security, which makes it difficult for them to empathize with those who have parents on fixed incomes. If you have a parent, who is turning 65 soon, or is already 65 years of age, and receives state subsidized health insurance benefits – explore the state regulations in your state, to make sure your parent is not facing the same fate. I think it is important to remember that the senior citizens, who lose benefit after benefit, due to state cutbacks are our parents, and they deserve much better than they are receiving. Finally, I would like to extend my compliments to the Shutt Detachment for hosting a spectacular event this summer, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Pvt. Charles J. Shutt Marine Corps League Detachment. The members worked hard to create an elegant and enjoyable evening for their guests, which included Marines and Associates, along with prominent members of the community, and many other VIP guests. It was a fabulous evening, and the Shutt Detachment did an exemplary job! As always, thank you everyone for your love, friendship, and unyielding support. SERENDIPITY by Angel Logan Welcome new and long time subscribers! Serendipity, formerly Angel Notes is not your traditional style newsletter. It is great to have you here, and Angel hopes you enjoy reading this month’s Serendipity. Hi Everyone! Happy Summer ... finally! Let's hope that summer extends well into the fall season to make up for the "forty days and forty nights" of relentless, bone-chilling rain. Of course, many are already taking their kids shopping for the impending school year, which boggles my mind, because it seems like it was just spring. Funny how time flies, and that is precisely what happened during our annual vacation in Maine. It was over before we knew it. Fortunately, despite a few days of rain, we had several other days of beautiful, sunny weather.
This year's vacation was a perfect example of things happening for a reason. Clearly, I needed to relax, renew, and recharge from the ocean's magic, to prepare for what was awaiting upon our return home. Without providing too many details, my father has suffered some setbacks with his health, and he is in the hospital again. I think this trip enabled me to return home with a clear mind, and the strength needed to be supportive to him.
Although I have not mentioned my father's health issues in recent months, it has been a long and difficult year since last August. Unfortunately, too many of you have experienced much of the same, and this type of situation is not easy for anyone. I've realized that this is also a test of life's biggest lesson regarding keeping the faith and holding on to hope – sometimes easier said than done. However, practicing what I often preach is paramount at this time. Therefore, I am hanging on to every shred of hope that exists, because hope is the core of life, in my opinion. Hope is what my father needs to maintain, along with as many positive thoughts and prayers as possible.
In the meantime, I will do what I can to be supportive to my dad, and the rest of my time will be devoted to my client projects. I am fortunate enough to have my dream career, which also provides the flexibility that I need from time to time, and I am lucky to have a husband who is my rock, and who cheers me on, no matter what. I'm also lucky to have all of you, who have continued to follow my journey throughout the years. I am sorry that I am one day late with my newsletter. However, I have some big news that I wanted to share, and I needed to wait until today, to make it official. I am pleased to announce that I am embarking upon a new book collaboration with an incredible individual. I cannot announce his name until he is ready to go public. However, I can tell you that he has an inspiring story and a positive message to share, which makes this the ideal project for me. He is very committed to the success of his book, and we are already off to a great start. I anticipate phenomenal results.
I know some of you might be surprised, and I didn't think I would do it, but I have jumped upon the Twitter bandwagon. I am still becoming acclimated to the whole process, but maintaining profiles with Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter has been good for business and promotion, and I have to admit, it is fun. I am easy to find, simply type the web address for any of these sites, and add: /angellogan
Feel free to join my circle of friends or followers on any or all of these social networks. I will be glad to hear from you!
June has always been a big month on a personal level – my birthday, Dana’s birthday, my mother’s birthday, Father’s Day, and a few other celebrations. I think it is the perfect way to begin the summer. Of course, June would have been much nicer this year without all of the rain. However, I am confident that the sky is going to open up, allowing the sun to shine brightly through upon us during the months of July and August. I'm not a weather person, but I am an optimist.
Finally, the past week has been sad with so many public losses – Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, and just recently, Karl Malden. These individuals have been icons in one way or another. Though we may not have known them on a personal level, I am sure that we have watched their TV or music performances over the years, and it is sad to see them go. I extend my thoughts and prayers to each of their families, during such a difficult time.
As always, thank you everyone for your love, friendship, and unyielding support. SERENDIPITY by Angel Logan Welcome new and long time subscribers! Serendipity, formerly Angel Notes is not your traditional style newsletter. It is Angel Logan's unique way of reaching out to you, her readers and friends – to stay in touch, to give updates on her writing career, and to share a few of the personal and professional pearls of wisdom that she has acquired along her journey. It is great to have you here, and Angel hopes you enjoy reading this month’s Serendipity. Hi Everyone! You may have noticed something slightly different about this month’s newsletter. While the name "Angel Notes" has served me well, since I started writing to you in 2005 – I feel it is time to make a change that reflects my growth and my newsletter’s growth. Serendipity has always been a special word to me. I have read a few slightly varying definitions, but in my opinion, the one that seems to be the most applicable is: “Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely.” That is how I feel about many aspects of life, because quite often, I have experienced wonderful and unexpected events, resulting from something else. When I began writing this newsletter – I did not realize how successful it would be, or how much positive feedback I would receive. I have connected with other writers and artists, developing new friendships, while reconnecting with and renewing old friendships. I guess what I am trying to say is that many great experiences have resulted from a simple letter that I started writing a few years ago. To me – that is an excellent example of serendipity, and an even more appropriate name to use. I hope all of you like it too! My husband Dana and I just celebrated our wedding anniversary, a week ago. I am happy to say that we have been married for twelve years. I am very lucky, because I have a great husband, who has given me unyielding support in every aspect of my life, especially my writing career. Fortunately, our anniversary was during the Memorial Day holiday weekend, which enabled us to spend some quality time together. In addition, Dana marched in the Memorial Day parade for the US Marine Corps League, where I used to do my volunteer work. It was the perfect weekend! I haven't had any public appearances lately, but I will keep you posted on any upcoming events. I have been busy with my writing business. Our turbulent economy has had an impact at times, but everyone is experiencing the same peaks and valleys. I anticipate an increase in business soon, and I will be more than prepared for it. In the meantime, if anyone needs professional writing or editing services – please let me know. Finally, I have been doing some spring-cleaning, and found some older and traditional Minolta photographic equipment in my closet. There is a 35-mm camera, with a smaller lens, a zoom lens, and a few other accessories. If there are any die-hard traditionalists among all of you, who still like to use film cameras, please let me know. I would love to sell these items to someone who has the expertise to benefit from them. Personally, I prefer my little, purple, Kodak Easy Share digital camera. As always, thank you everyone for your love, friendship, and unyielding support. Welcome new and long time subscribers!
Angel Notes is not your traditional style newsletter. It is my unique way of reaching out to you, my readers and friends – to stay in touch, to give updates on my writing career, and to share a few of the personal and professional pearls of wisdom that I have acquired along my journey. It is great to have you here, and I hope you enjoy reading this month’s Angel Notes.
As I walked down the street today, I noticed several beautiful and vibrant tulips. I love this time of year, watching the new flowers bloom, and the buds on the trees grow. Spring is the perfect time for renewal. Maybe that is why “spring cleaning” is so popular, because it is a great time to reorganize your life – inside and out. Of course, I think springtime reminds me that life is precious, and we need to appreciate every moment.
Speaking of appreciating every moment – I packed up my work and took it to Maine for a long weekend last month. The ocean is also a reminder of our incredible universe. I always feel like a new and stronger person after a visit. Yes, I put my feet into the ocean, just for a few minutes, and while you are gasping, thinking about the cold water – you need to know that once the numbness takes over, you do not notice how cold the water is on your feet. (HAHA) Some people view the ocean as “just water.” However, it will always be my place of inspiration, and the place that always renews my spirit.
I may have mentioned one of my fellow authors previously, Lynne Epstein. She wrote and published a book that I promised to read. Unfortunately, it took much longer than I had planned, because my schedule has not left much room for leisure time. Even when I am in Maine, my laptop is with me, and I always have a lot of work to do while I am there. However, I wanted to read Lynne’s book, and although I had to read a little bit at a time, over a long period – I finally finished it last month. Lynne’s book is a true story and I am so glad that I read it. I think the review I wrote for her says it all:
"Lynne's story shocked and captivated me, as I eagerly awaited the outcome of each chapter in her book, Subtle Deception. Clearly, this was more than a story to share -- it was an experience of growth, awareness, and renewal for Lynne, as she became more acquainted with her own identity, through the eyes of an egocentric charlatan, and through the reflection of her own mirror. Lance veiled his dysfunction and obsessive behavior with condescension and oblique criticism toward Lynne, while labeling his remarks as love. He used God’s name to target her vulnerabilities and justify his obvious lack of respect for women. Although Lynne’s deep desire for real and unconditional love may have temporarily blinded her to his shifty tactics – through this experience, Lynne’s vision became clear when she realized that she deserved better, found her inner strength, and ultimately prevailed. After reading Lynne’s book, I could see that she learned the important lesson that the great philosopher Erich Fromm shared – Immature love says: 'I love you because I need you.' Mature love says 'I need you because I love you.'
More importantly, Lynne learned how to love herself enough not to accept anything less than what she is willing to give – a lesson most of us need to learn at one point or another in our lives. I think that Subtle Deception will be a valuable tool for anyone, who might be traveling along the same path that Lynne traveled during that long year, and will let her readers know that there is always hope, if you believe in yourself. "
Even Lynne’s book touches upon the theme of renewal in my newsletter this month. I hope everyone finds a few moments to enjoy all that springtime has to offer, and I hope that all of you will find a little renewal in your own lives.
As always, thank you everyone for your love, friendship, and unyielding support. Talk to you next month. ~Angel Please visit the links below to read more information about my book and me, or to order a copy of Wings of an Angel Poetry Collection. Welcome new and long time subscribers!
Angel Notes is not your traditional style newsletter. It is great to have you here, and I hope you enjoy reading this month’s Angel Notes.
April Fools! I didn't forget my newsletter, but clearly, I'm not great at pulling April Fools Day gags. HAHA
Anyway, I am so happy to see slight glimmers of spring. However, throughout the up and down temperatures, I was sick for a couple of weeks, and it seems to be catching up with my husband now that I am feeling better. That is why I try not to jump the gun when Mother Nature teases us with a few warmer days, knowing that the temps will drop again.
I would like to thank Ten Thousand Villages in Brookline, Massachusetts for inviting and featuring me, among a few other very talented artists, to celebrate International Women's Day, earlier this month. It was a successful event, and I met several wonderful new people, who attended and participated that day. I took a few books to the event to sign and sell, while I was there. Because my book has been out for a while, I have to purchase my own copies now. Therefore, it was to my benefit to sell the rest of the copies that I had leftover from the event. Everyone has appreciated that I could sign his or her copies. I am selling my book for $25 each. Again, I will sign the copies, but I only have a few left. So, if you are interested, please let me know.
I have had a ton of client work to keep me busy, from editing technical guides to working on business web copy. I have to say that I am lucky to obtain so many diverse and interesting clients along the way. My writing work is never boring, because each project is different from the other. I've been great at balancing each client's work with the other, and I'll continue to take as much work as I can, because I really enjoy what I do.
Finally, Easter is right around the corner. Dana and I like to keep this holiday low-key, because we have such busy schedules. It is nice to have one holiday to ourselves, to enjoy quality time together. We still exchange Easter baskets, which is a lot of fun for us. We have maintained this tradition together for almost 14 years, and I suspect we will continue for many years to come.
Whether you spend a quiet Easter at home, have dinner out, or participate in a large family gathering – I hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable celebration.
As always, thank you everyone for your love, friendship, and unyielding support.
Talk to you next month.
~Angel
