Hey All. Tis I, Anj. Thanks for checking out my blog. My hope is of course that it will provide some entertaining reading to lighten and brighten your day. Or at least provide you with a smidgen of humor. If you like what you read, or if you don't, if you agree with it, or if you disagree, if you despise my thoughts and opinions or if think they are the next best thing since homemade bannana bread baked by yo' mama, I hope you will comment about it. Comments are a gals best friend. Other than that, pull up a chair, put on some tea, and enjoy reading. Who knows, a subcriber may be in you yet.

Hello All. Tis I, Anj.
In this issue:
1. John Legend: Friend Or Foe?
2. What do Romanians, a bug net and Anj have in common?

Well, well well – its summer already?! I’ve been so busy I would have barely noticed it had arrived if it weren’t for the onslaught of shoobies that have already come to the shore; clogging up our circles, feeding the seagulls and asking what a “jimmie” is at Khors Brothers (the answer btw is a chocolate, oblong sprinkle that adds sugary delight to your ice cream cone). Ah yes, gotta love the shoobs. And truly, despite my poking fun, we do :)

John Legend: Friend Or Foe?
So first off, I need to apologize for keeping everyone in the dark regarding the John Legend Contest that happened back in March. But I want to thank ALL OF YOU for your unbelievable response in helping me win the contest on Ourstage.com! I had over 6,000 votes and came in first place out of hundreds of entries. This is a truly wonderful feather in my cap to know so many people loved my song, but YOUR hard-work and support is what touched my heart the most.
Unfortunately, winning the contest on Ourstage and getting to perform with John Legend were not guaranteed. I had to wait a month before hearing about John’s decision, and sadly, he didn’t pick me! For whatever reason he just didn’t dig my version of his song, so…. it’s a no-go for performing on stage with him. However, Ourstage is going to be doing a “feature blog” on my success, and hey - I’ll see John at the top and thank him for keeping my dreams out of reach. He’s made me want them that much more!!

What do Romania, a bug net and Anj have in common?
Hmmm, this is quite a riddle isn’t it? Well, the answer is – they’re all part of my trip this summer to volunteer abroad in Eastern Europe! Yep, that’s right! So you’re probably wondering, what brought this on? Well, truth be told – even the most truly devoted artist can get emotionally clogged by the vanity, lies and insincerity of the music industry after a while. So in an effort to decompress, gain perspective, and help children who need affection as much as they do education, I’ll be traveling this July to work and live in an orphanage in the village of Valea Screzzi, Romania. But I need YOUR HELP to make it happen!

To my surprise, I have quickly learned that volunteer work costs more than one’s time, it costs money too. I have to pay a “volunteer placement fee” that pays for medical insurance, vaccinations, room and board, orientation, pre-departure training, and transportation to and from the airport. (Volunteers are also responsible for their airfare). To try and offset these costs, I am trying to raise $3,000. This money will not only be helping to fund my work there, but also go towards purchasing clothes, toys, and games to ship over to the children.

For more information go to: www.firstgiving.com/anjgranieri

Donations are safe, secure, 100% TAX DEDUCTABLE, and can be made right on the site. If just 60 people make a 50 dollar donation, we can reach the goal! Please help me really make a difference this summer by finding it in your heart to make a donation.

Happy Summer!

Grace and Peace,
Anj

P.S. – as for the giant bug net, that’s for my sanity while I’m sleeping. Do you have any idea how big the mosquitoes get in Romania?

Who out all of you are my TRUE FANS?

Now you can be a true fan in slippers and pajamas. Bet you didn't think it could be THAT easy, right?

But as an "Anjel", you will be entitled to some very nice benefits such as...

Hello Friends :)

Well, this has been an AMAZING month for me. I'm sitting in my cousin's house in Burbank California, recovering ( and i do mean recovering ) from the TAXI ROAD RALLY in Los Angeles. I'm going to be resting up for the next day or so, and then I'm off to hit up the ASCAP/BILLBOARD/ TV FILM HOLLYWOOD REPORTER CONVENTION. Very exciting!!

I save my blog about TAXI for later, but I just need to say that I cannot offer enough good words about this RALLY to all aspiring musicians. For two years, I've practically offered free tickets to every friend and musician I have, but no one takes me up on the offer. Again, I just need to say, that THIS RALLY CHANGES LIVES. It changed mine, and next week when I return home, I will reveal my very very big news with all of you.

But for now - I have other news to share!! Last month, I got a call from the President of A&R at a record company out west. He offered me a licensing deal, and now my song "Former Stranger" is going to be released on a compilation CD called "GOOD GIRLS, GONE BAD" ( hahah so so so funny, now i'm a bad girl apparently), with major label artists Amy Winehouse and Duffy!!

Whhhhaaaaaat??? SO INSANE!!!

The album is set to be released Jan 1 and will be distributed through all of Europe in a sub-publishing agreement with Universal Records. Yay exposure!! Yay sharing digital writing space on a CD with two major label artists! Yay for another big ol' feather in my cap!! Yay! Yay! Yay!

I have to run to a meeting now, so I share any more details at the moment... but I am creating a newsletter to keep everybody updated.. so if you would be interested in signing up - please email me at ANJINFO@YAHOO.COM!! Sign up this week and receive my EXCITING NEWS before anyone else and access to a new song!!

And thank you for all of your love and support! I hope to see all you NYC fans at my show at Googie's this saturday night, to hear my new song "Bless America" played for the first time! See my gig list for more details..

Peace and Blessings,
Anj

Last night, I had the the astounding privilege of watching my country chose the 44th President of the United States. It was truly a monumental day, to see the first bi-racial man elected president. As I watched him give his speech, I saw the millions of people in the crowds, cheering, crying, holding each other - and looking to this man in an almost messianc light. It is a tremendous achievement to show the world and ourselves how far we have come in the last 100 years regarding race.

That being said, I did not vote for Barack Obama. I voted for a different man, one who perhaps represented in HIS age and skin color and party, too much of what we have had in America for too long. One who perhaps was unable to truly break down predjudices against HIMSELF, enough to get people from all sides to truly listen. This was a man, that when I heard him speak, it was not the voice of charisma that i heard, and there was nothing hypnotizing about his words. It was the simple, naked voice of the wounded, the tired, the undeniably strong: the ragged voice of a true American. And when I saw his face, I did not see the face of youth, of boundless energy and naivety: I saw the face of wisdom. I saw the body of a tortured prisoner, and the teary eyes of a man who so loves his country, he would die for it. I felt the spirit of a man who truly believes in the principles our country was founded on, and wanted to spend his last days on earth getting us back on track to restoring those principles, both in this land and in every heart of every American.

John McCain has and will always have, my unwavering respect. If I could shake one person's hand in this world, it would be his. He has restored my patriotism and my love of country. And I have never heard a more heart-felt, truly humble and genuine speech as I did last night when he conceded. He said last night, that running for this office was the greatest honor of his life. Well John, voting for you will no doubt be one of mine.

As to the future, I will respect my President for his office, and I will throw aside my ill-feelings and I will work with him to make America better as best I can. I do not believe he was the right man for the job, but I hope and pray that his 4 year term will bring good to our world. I hope to God that the facts i have learned about him over the past 7 months are not true, or that even if they were, that God will help mold his heart and help him to be wise in his decisions. If he is truly willing to work with "all of us", he will not be so radical in the plans he has set forth during his campaign.

My prayer every morning for the next 4 years will be that every American will realize that we live in the greatest land on earth. That we are a country not of socialist ideas, but built on the idea that if you work HARD enough, if you NEVER quit, you can have your wildest dreams. I hope they will all realize that the purpose of the government is not to "fix all your problems", but simply to oversee. It is not its purpose to be a charitable organization, who takes money from those they deem rich enough and then give it to those them deem worthy of it. That responsibility belongs to each of us individually. I love my country, I love this crazy melting pot of individuals. And I only pray we will be stronger for this new President regarding the issues that matter to us most.

Today I am flying out to Los Angeles, California for two major music conventions, the TAXI ROAD RALLY 08' and the ASCAP/BILLBOARD FILM AND TV CONVENTION. With me, I will be taking a brand new recorded song...

It's called "Dear God, Please Bless America", and it is a patriotic, uniting song which I wrote and recorded with the help of an amazing black gospel choir, along with many musicians of different race and religious backgrounds. I think its the perfect time for this song, and I feel very confident someone will take interest in it. I shall post it next week!

I am excited to be going - to feel the rush of the plane, the roar of its engines beneath my feet; to be lifted into the clouds above all this worlds ugliness. To feel hope again. I am excited to have 10 days to myself, to restore myself and to devote my hours to nothing but music. It's been a long year, and my fire has dwindled. I need a spark again. I need to believe in my dreams again.

May God Bless me on my journey, you on yours, our President, America, and this volatile world, in which we must find a way to come together, or ultimately perish.

Much love,
Anj

P.S. - I know this is a heated election, but regardless of where you stand, remember to take everything these men are saying with a grain of salt. THIS STORY SAYS IT ALL Please go out on November 4th and vote. And please, for the love of God, know why you are voting for your candidate.

P.S.S. I use a Roland FP3 and I've lost my power supply PSB-1U. Anybody know a good replacement? Anybody know where the heck I can get this adapter in like two days?

Hey All,

I am flying out for the TAXI convention ( TAXI is the world's leading A&R company for independent artists) on November 5th and am interested in appealing to any and all of my female indie artists out there who might want to take advantage of a GREAT opportunity.

The TAXI convention is from November 6th-9th (thurs through sunday). As a TAXI member, and for my lofty membership fee, I get two free tickets to their massively huge music convention ( jam-packed with classes, cock-tail parites, mentoring sessions, panels etc).

I don't have anyone to go with :(

More importantly, I don't have anyone to ROOM with. The convention is held at the WESTIN hotel in Los Angeles, California - The rooms are $155 a night. It's a bit pricey for me to swing alone, but its worth staying there - the surrounding areas are shady and ghetto, and all of the networking happens at the wee hours of the morning.

SOOOOO - does anybody out there want to take my FREE GUEST TICKET?? You would need to pay for airfare ( i just got a plane ticket for $226 from Newark) and the hotel room for three nights would be $232.

This is the opportunity of a lifetime - and you would be getting the TICKET FOR FREE (I pay 200 bucks a year to use this company) !! We don't need to know each other - we don't need to fly together or even hang together. We just shack up in the same room.

Let me know if anyone is interested!!!

Grace and Peace,
Anj

P.S. Does anybody know of some venues out in L.A. that I might work on trying to get a gig at? I'll be staying after the convention for another week to hit the ASCAP convention, and would like to play a gig or two out in California. Help a gal out! :)

Well Hello Hello Hello. I got me some good news people. One, it turns out that Breyers make this stuff called "double churned ice-cream". OH MY GOSH PEOPLE. How have I lived a quarter-century on this planet and not known about this amazingly delicious stuff? And its fat free? Can that be possible? I swear, one bite of this velvety sweetness and you will be hooked.

Oh yea but wait what was I writing about? Oh right, music :)

So I got a call last week from Q. Music Collective in Hollywood, a music library which specializes in TV and Film placements around the country. After some deliberation and consulting the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (great bunch of people), I've just signed with their music library!! They are interested in using my music on a new show on the CW network called "The Privileged"!!! Doesn't sound like a show I would ever want to watch unless somebody tied me to a chair and held a gun to my head, but hey!! It's still very exciting!! Hip, Hip, Hooray!

I mean - Breyers Fat Free Double-Churned French Silk Ice cream in a cone for 70 calories, AND a publishing deal?

Life. Is. Good.
