INTERVIEW - Purpose - http://www.myspace.com/ipurposemusic
ARTIST: Purpose
DATE: 2009-04-22
BY: Najashi
Interview
Najashi..s Narrations Vibe Views
Ian Chang, 'Purpose' is a talented singer who ventured into music at a very tender age.
"I can remember when I would pound desks and sing at school ", he says. Like most Jamaican artistes, Purpose nurtured his singing in church and was encouraged by his mother, while taking his inspiration from legendary Jamaican singers like Garnet Silk, Jah Cure and International Artistes like Michael Bolton and Ray Charles.
A promising and very enthusiatic performer, who has preformed locally as well as on the international stage.
Purpose hopes to leave a positive mark in the music industry. His songs are about the struggles faced in our daily life, they encourages faith and perseverance.
Purpose has a smooth and charming delivery with the most touching lyrics heard in years.
One listen to Purpose and you will see and feel why this artist is destined for greatness.
Currently, Purpose is working on his upcoming album with JABUKEM Music Group producer Alex Martin- Blanken.
It is Purpose conviction to stay true and real and he vows to keep his music positive.
Watch out for Purpose coming at you, with Fresh Music with a Positive Flow.
What is the meaning of your name?
Realizing that there was a call on my life to amplify love through music and seeing that I always try to maintain a conscious and positive outlook be it in my music or my life, I chose the name Purpose which means mandated, convicted. Reggae music needs this type of conviction, a man is only as strong as his purpose, It is my purpose (my mandate, my conviction) to bring back to reggae music a more positive and conscious voice
What does your music bring to the reggae genre?
My music , my songs, brings about the conscience that the genre has yearned for. It's sincere and soul touching lyrics in its truest ,purest and most humble form. My concerns are for the people, the common people, the children, the poor, those suffering, those looking for a way out. Thats what my music brings to the reggae genre, concern for the everyday people not bling bling, flashy videos and big bank accounts , just plain and true concern
Who influenced you? And what is your motivation?
My influence comes from the almighty himself and life, and my motivation again is life ,watching what my music does to people, how it moves and inspires them, along with the joy and fulfillment I get from that. When I hear people singing my songs and enjoying the lyrics (because I write for the young and the old) that motivates me beyond anything else.
What do you see as the future of reggae and music in general?
I see reggae music in the future touching lives and changing mindsets, as long as we realise and embrace the fact that there is a new voice a fresh voice a generation of artiste who are committed to the task then we will see some phenomenal results, but music all is all has a good looking future, music is part of life.
Playing or recording what do you prefer?
I cant play music to save my life so that's easy, I prefer recording, it is very fulfilling to take some words off a piece of paper add music and make a song for all to enjoy.
Please tell the folks what you would like them to know.
That purpose is serious about his music, I'm not fake I mean what I sing. I want to see people loving, laughing, praising, dancing and living. and I am real emotional about my music, but don't tell anyone.

Juskhan is one of the hottest new artists in the intoxicating musical movement known as soca (soul + calypso) - the supercharged party music of the Caribbean.

Juskhan's soca sound is rhythmically complex yet instantly catchy, a non-stop blending of the flavorful, tuneful, and irresistibly danceable. Can U Really Whine? He wants to know.

From his myspace profile:
He's been described by Caribbean music authorities as one of the most talented new Bajan artists, yet not many people can accurately categorize Nfernos musical style. The dexterity with which he switches from slow, sultry soca tunes to hardcore dancehall to conscious reggae may explain why. Born in 1978 in Bridgetown, Barbados,
Mark "Nferno" Holder is no stranger to reggae and soca music. Growing up, he remembers buying the records of the popular artists of both genres, and credits artists such as Lil Rick, Ninja Man, Shabba Ranks, and Machel Montano among his musical influences. He was initiated into the music fraternity in his pre-teens, when he began to compose lyrics to the instrumental version of popular songs. It wasnt long before he had established himself as a local DJ among his peers, playing parties that often got shut down because of the crowds.
At 16, Nferno migrated to Maryland where his talent caught the ear of Darren Solozano, owner of Sprang International, the top soca sound system in the Washington, DC metro area. He became the youngest DJ in the Sprang International organization, no easy feat for a teenager who was new to the local music scene, and did not yet have an audience.
It wasn't long before Nferno was part of the regular schedule at the Crossroads Entertainment Complex, drawing a loyal Sunday night audience. It was strange playing in clubs when I wasnt even old enough to drink. Id play my set, and then have to get up the next morning and go to high school just like any other kid.
In 1999, he left Sprang International to pursue his dream of being a solo artist. Nferno spent two years performing locally and honing his skills in the Washington, DC area before a chance meeting with soca artist and producer extraordinaire, KMC. He was very supportive, Nferno recalls. He believed in my talent and encouraged me to actively pursue music as an artist. Its gratifying when an artist that you admire gives you that kind of encouragement.
In 2003, Nferno was booked as the opening act for a series of dancehall concerts featuring Spragga Benz, Vybz Kartel, and Baby Cham, making him the first Barbadian artist to open a concert for an all-star dancehall cast. His successful performances set the stage for the release of his first single, Wine Dat, which received airplay on Caribbean radio stations throughout North America, and granted him access to a larger audience.
His 2004 release Can You Really Wine? (produced by the renowned Parry Jack, who has also created hits for Bunji Garlin and Sean Caruth) garnered international attention, and sealed Nfernos fate as a talented and viable new artist. Following its release, he was booked to perform at several concerts during DC Carnival, including the infamous Camouflage Fete, where he was the only Barbadian solo artist on the roster.
The success of Nfernos second single culminated in its repeated airplay in Barbados during the 2004 Cropover season, and the subsequent booking requests he received. Hearing my song playing on the radio in Barbados was a dream come true, he remembers, smiling. But when I was asked to perform at a local event during Cropover, that was the icing on the cake.
In 2005, Nferno took a hiatus from his recording career to broaden the scope of his talents and conquer yet another aspect of the music industry. He ghostwrote several tracks for local Maryland artists, then wrote Lose Control, a soca song performed by newcomer Mel, and produced by the notorious Ma$tamind Productions.

I have only TWO words for this artiste "SMOOTH & SEXY"

TAKEN FRON ROB'S MYSPACE
Soul music is back! Its almost impossible to deny that there's an ongoing resurrection of the genre made popular by pioneers such as Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder and numerous others. After a lack-luster hiatus, R&B and Soul is refreshing again It's special again... And it definitely feels good again. Among the pack of souldiers leading this recent upsurge is native New Yorker, Rob Murat. The Queens-born Ivy-League graduate emerges as a leader within the resurgence with intense vocals, creative songwriting, and contagious production that holds music-lovers captive.
Singer, songwriter, producer, and grandson of an international music notable; Rob has been surrounded by music ever since birth. With a childhood immersed in a wide array of musical influences, from hip hop, pop, and R&B to Caribbean, jazz and classical, Rob developed a vigorous passion for music relatively early in life. His musical upbringing coupled with his experiences as a trumpet soloist, self-taught pianist, impressive composer and vocal arranger has translated into the making of a true artist.
Listening to Rob Murat's music is like traveling back to the future. The freshness of his sound is reminiscent of the icons that paved the way before him, yet it pushes forward with a unique flavor that hints at something never quite heard before. His passionate performances demand your undivided attention upon delivery. Sold out crowds at local New York City venues such as Joes Pub, The Village Underground, L.Q., Decade, among others have all experienced Rob's captivating execution firsthand. His sound and style lay a foundation that often flirt with rich tones and live instrumentation, yet at the same time display hip hop sensibilities that peak the interest of the urban listener. His songs deal with a range of matters from the heart and mind with a strong presence of vocal textures that serve as pure audio therapy for the soul. Seldom have love and hate, joy and pain, even tears and laughter been bound so tightly together in such a mesmerizing set.
Rob proves on his newest recording effort that besides his strong vocal range and songwriting capabilities, he is also a gifted producer. On Not Your Average Rob flows over an infectious self-produced groove as he frankly states his case to the ladies. Beautiful Apology, an impressive display of songwriting, is saturated with honest emotion. And on the club friendly banger, Miracle, Rob teams up with Grammy Award winning, G.O.O.D. Music producer, Devo Springsteen (Kanye West, John Legend) in a co-production that will surely send waves through the industry.
Yes... Soul music is back! And if Rob Murat has his way, it is here to stay.

The American Outlaw Himself C T Harrison

From CT's MYSPACE PAGE Not surprising. It has been said that if you throw enough stuff at the wall, sooner or later something is bound to stick. And CT has displayed remarkable resilience with his throwing arm.
After knocking on doors from Nashville to Los Angeles I suppose that he has every right to become discouraged at the results of his efforts. But he doesnt. He just keeps on. What makes a person that focused on his goal his love of music? My sister left home when I was just eight years old. CT recalls. She left behind her Gibson Les Paul copy guitar. That was enough for me! he remembers. I used to sit in the living room for hours playing that thing to an 8-Track of Johnny Cashs Man In Black. Note: If you dont quite remember 8-Tracks ask Mom and Dad. I would pretend I was Johnny Cash and the crowd was cheering for ME. Later, I also fell in love with the drums. After playing air drums every waking hour of every day my folks finally bought me a drum set. I guess this whole course was set right there.
CT was born in Las Vegas, Nevada where he was adopted at 11 months old after stays in several foster homes. He grew up on a farm near Roswell, New Mexico where he attended East Grand Plains Elementary School, T. Mesa Middle School and finally Goddard High School. I wasnt a great student, but I did OK and my love of music continued to develop. CT offered. While other Country Music hopefuls were waiting tables in Nashville, CT had his share of day jobs. My first after school job was in a butcher shop and I absolutely hated it! Next, I held a brief job at the local Radio Shack. CT seemed to embrace variety and jobs as a contractor, surveyor, psychiatric technician, nurses aid, reservationist and several stints as a Disc Jockey followed.
But CT wasnt just working he was listening as well. He had his ear to his Country favorites Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, Gary Allen, Pat Green and his idol, Chris LeDoux. CT mused, When I listen to what Ive recorded, I can hear bits and pieces of all of them. And CTs discography continues to grow. Waiting For The Other Heart To Fall was a 5 song EP that I really enjoyed recording. The season seemed to take over next and we released CTs Country Christmas.
My current project American Outlaw is perhaps our biggest undertaking to date. CT does reserve some time for relaxation. I fish, camp and when darkness falls its straight to the honky tonk dance floor. And all wrapped in a steady diet of Country music. His fantasy? Id travel to Scotland and visit old castles, Loch Ness and do some ghost hunting, in season, of course. A grin swept across his face. I really love ghost hunting. CTs chosen genre of Country music has always been about lovin, leavin, drinkin and fightin. I asked CT which he feels has most impacted his career. Bar brawls. he answered without the slightest hesitation. One night in Farmington, New Mexico 5 pipe liners got me down in the parking lot. It took the better part of a month to recover but heck, that was FUN!
You can sample CTs music or order it online at www.ctharrison.com. - Bob Huntington

March 13, 2006 -- YOUNGSTER'S BLACK-POWER POEM RILES SCHOOL
A 7-year-old prodigy unleashed a firestorm when she recited a poem she wrote comparing Christopher Columbus and Charles Darwin to "pirates" and "vampires" who robbed blacks of their identities and human rights.
Hundreds of parents of Peekskill middle- and high-school students received a recorded phone message last week apologizing for little Autum Ashante's poem, titled "White Nationalism Put U in Bondage."
"Black lands taken from your hands, by vampires with no remorse," the aspiring actress and po et wrote. "They took the gold, the wisdom and all the storytellers. They took the black women, with the black man weak. Made to watch as they changed the paradigm of our village.
"Yeah white nationalism is what put you in bondage. Pirates and vampires like Columbus, Morgan and Darwin." Autum was invited to speak at the Westchester schools on Feb. 28 by Melvin Bolden, a music teacher at the middle school who advises the high school's Black Culture Club and is a member of the Peekskill City Council.
Autum, whose resume includes several television appearances and performances at the Apollo Theater and the African Burial Ground in Manhattan , told The Post that her poem was meant to instill pride in black students and to encourage them to steer clear of violence.
"I don't think there's anything wrong with my poem. I was trying to tell them the straight-up truth," Autum said. "I'm trying to tell them not to fight because they're killing the brothers and sisters."
Autum, who is home-schooled in Mount Vernon and speaks several languages, prefaced her performance at the high school with a Black Panthers' pledge asking black youngsters to not harm one another.
It did not sit well with parents. In a telephone interview with The Post, Bolden said Autum has been "unofficially" banned from performing in a district school again and that school officials would review transcripts of future speakers.
"It's unfortunate, because some teachers said they wanted this little girl to explain the things she said to their students, but some parents don't want her on school grounds," Bolden said. "[The poem] might have been a little too aggressive for what the middle-school kids are ready to handle," Bolden added. Kimberly Greene, a mother of children in the high school and middle school, said she was shocked when she got the recorded phone message.
"If there are people who are upset about what she said, the schools should have talked about and analyzed it rather than send a message to everyone saying this little girl was offensive," Greene said.
Autum's father, Batin Ashante, said he can't believe the fuss over his daughter's poem. "She's a little girl who does poetry about real things. She doesn't do poetry about cotton candy," Ashante said. "She's a serious little person."
White Nationalism Put U In Bondage White nationalism is what put you in bondage Pirate and vampires like Columbus, Morgan, and Darwin Drank the blood of the sheep, trampled all over them with Steel, tricks and deceit. Nothing has changed take a look in our streets The mis-education of she and Hegro ? leaves you on your knee2grow Black lands taken from your hands, by vampires with no remorse They took the gold, the wisdom and all of the storytellers They took the black women, with the black man weak Made to watch as they changed the paradigm Of our village They killed the blind, they killed the lazy, they went So far as to kill the unborn baby Yeah White nationalism is what put you in bondage Pirates and vampires like Columbus, Morgan, and Darwin They drank the blood of the sheep, trampled all over them with Steel laden feet, throw in the tricks alcohol and deceit. Nothing has changed take a look at our streets. ----------------------------------------------------------------

This young Lady was the first to show me love on my space so today I return the love and wish her the highest blessing from above... Listen for my shout out in her first ALIVE - yes when she said "Barbara Walters" she was shouting me out not that other Barbara Walters----:) (well I would like to think so anyway) My favorite song out of the two is "GOING THRU THE MOTIONS" Love it -Love it.

Taken from her myspace Serron King, otherwise known as SK, has been described as a breath of fresh air to the music industry. Hailing from St. Louis as one of the first successful female singer songwriters of the area, SKs soulful sounds are a musical interpretation of urban memoirs from a female perspective.
In 2003, SKs Playaz and Shortys was featured as the lead song on the soundtrack to NBA Streets 2003, Vol. 2 alongside Eminem, Jay-Z and Missy Elliot. SK has been featured in XXL and Honey magazines and rated the ..1 Female Rap Artist by Da Streets Magazine. SKs debut album Its About Time features producers, Mr. Fingaz (Ja Rules, Holla Holla Fabolous, Its My Party), Good and Evil, Jayd and Carl Mo (Big Bois, I Like the Way You Move). Her album is mixed by Grammy Award winner Bassy Bob Brockman (Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, The Fugees). It is scheduled for release this year on DAN4ENTERTAINMENT.
Drawing from many different musical styles including R&B, soul, hip-hop and traditional rock n roll, SKs work possesses a depth unique to her industry. SKs gritty rhymes, confidant lyrics and heartfelt melodies set her apart as a female Rapper/Singer representing the cultural ecology of the streets.
It is her artistry, individuality and independence, which SK stakes as her claim to fame. She is a product of what happens when a talented young woman from the streets believes in herself and is unafraid to tell the truth the first time and every time.

Here's my baby boy. The real McCoy the one and only Jermaine Cowan

Spreading a message of greater proportions than many of those who have gone before him, Jermaine Cowan comes strong with the truth and is primed to be the conscience reggae desperately needs. This Jamaica-born young artist sends off stellar vibes by fusing elements of hip-hop, pop, and soul into the classic reggae and dancehall sounds.
Jermaine developed an early appreciation for music while growing up and he accredits his father for inspiring him to passionately develop his gifts and talents in singing and songwriting. Jermaine has been influenced by distinguished veterans such as Michael Jackson, Kirk Franklin, and Luther Vandross. The impact of reggae artists such as Sanchez, Dennis Brown, and Bob Marley is evident as he builds upon some of the common elements developed by these legends. Jermaine pairs his sound with genuine lyrics as he shares personal experiences and puts life into an insightful perspective.
Gaining his first major break as an emcee for the award-winning reggae group, House of David, Jermaine has already caught the eye of various industry professionals. While gracing international stages in Canada, the US, and Jamaica, he has shared the company of renowned artists such as Papa San, Carleen Davis, Frankie Paul, Half Pint, Luciano, and Stitchie.
Now, stepping out solo, Jermaine is busy preparing his debut project. The premiere will be comprised of body-grooving cuts and inspirational pieces including the hit single So produced by the Positivibes Productions team. This work will also feature special guest artists including hip-hop sensation Promise. Slated for completion and release in mid-spring 2006 it is definitely going to be some of most upbeat and positive entertainment any soul has yet to partake in.
This bright artist is intending to make a lasting mark on society. Through the use of innovative lyrics and reflective tones he establishes a reality that many consider to be a mere fairytale. His heart to reach youth shines through as he encourages listeners to overcome struggles and ascend from the ghetto. Jermaine Cowan is the phenomenal voice and blissful sound that the soul of a reggae fan craves.
