As the hearing of Prop 8 closed, there's an undercurrent of quiet consensus that the line of questioning lent to upholding the delineation of rights from one individual to another. Not enough swing, apparently....

But, it got me to thinking: We, as in homosexuals - quite bluntly, are a true minority. We cannot recruit, we cannot reproduce. Sexuality is a toss of the dice that is dictated, empirically by biologic need, to have those most capable of reproduction as a majority. The numbers of homosexuals will always carry a smaller percentage of the population - that's just how it is.

Other races, religions, etc. have a method of deliberately increasing their numbers. Whether by reproduction or by recruitment, there is an effective control available to these socio-idioms to directly sway any vote of majority.

But, in the case of sexuality, there's 10% of the population that's trying to convince the other 90%. Yeah, some people are open-minded and will empathize, so I'm not saying that 'convincing' doesn't happen. But what is interesting here, at least to me, is that the personal experience is far less likely to occur. When you realize it, so many people that *would* approve Prop 8 actually vote against it - just because they know someone who's personally dealing with that struggle.

It's all too easy to say you understand someone you've never met. But, if you've never met that person, how *do* you claim to understand them?

Have you heard the new song?!?! Lily Allen's caramel voice
and edgy Brit-pop vocals illustrate the confusion felt by nearly every
twenty-something for generations of human history. A bass-line, underscored by
syncopated rhythms, crawls in steps along the harmony of Lily's folk-art, semi-raspy,
matter-of-fact melody.

.. ..

But beyond that, one lyric, "But, it doesn't matter,
'cause I'm packin' plastic. That's what makes my life so f?*#ing
fantastic" rings so true of all the emotions that are brought forth by the
song's max-impact title "The Fear." The tune even edges on out-right
rebellious sarcasm, stating, "I'm not a saint; and I'm not a sinner. Everything's
cool, as long as I'm getting thinner."

.. ..

Even in the beginning, the soothing lullaby-baby tones
greedily dig for diamonds while people die to find them. That's something to
say, seeing as the entire track is written from a youth-learning-from-adults-but-knowing-the-difference-anyway
point of view.

.. ..

This doo-dum-diddy about "The Fear", IMHO, is regarding
what the chapters of money and power in human history have passed down for future
generations to inherit. Children have no power, nor money. Yet, they are raised
with the understanding that *both* are valuable, perhaps the most valuable
'things' one could attain. So, why would it matter if people die while finding
diamonds? All the time, no one is quite busy making sure that something like
love could be deemed as valuable.

.. ..

"Out of the mouths of babes," perhaps?

.. ..

'Nuff sed!

Not just our species

Nestle’s water bottling has destroyed the watershed in Mecosta County, Michigan.

In Plachimada, India, a Coca-Cola plant has plagued the small community with polluted drinking water and toxic waste.

Watch or learn about the movie "Flow." You’ll be surprised at what you didn’t know.

Please share/forward/repost this message.

Brutal honesty is the only kind of honesty I appreciate. Some people take it, some people toss it, the people that matter accept it.

Thanks to Mr. Spiffy for this realization!

Workers at Republic Windows and Doors were laid-off because Bank of America cancelled their line of credit. IL state government has banned doing business with Bank of America (and I recommend that everyone boycott Bank of America) becuase B of A was given bail-out money, but still cut small business' credit lines.

Do something small: Head over to petitiononline.com to get more details and sign the petition; then post a link to the petition on your page, your blog, wherever! 400 workers and their families deserve to have a good Holiday; help give it to them!!!!!

It's not often that I get a 'really? they do that?' kind of email but, as Momma Kat often filters the majority of bad FWD emails and then sends me what's really worth reading, I'd received a bit of news about Sears that I was unaware of.

I HOPE you have all seen the reports about how Sears is treating its reservist employees who are called up? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years. I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution.

I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.

Pass it on.

As I watch, and Obama's US presidential election becomes apparent, I ponder the many things that I've been terrified to consider since I've learned what it really means to be terrified:

"He may be the'greatest uniter' man has ever seen; yet, many prophets warn of a 'great uniter,'" is but one of many thoughts that go through my head...

"How many KKK members will swear to Obama's death?" yet, another.

But where did I have a choice?

I'm scared, now.

"Give me your weary, your sick, your tired."

And all the while, we have become the wearied, the sickened, and the tired.

Will our children have the strength
to correct what we've mismade?

-Arow

P.S.: In response to the question of "But where did I have a choice?" - I compared McCain and Obama: and both are qualified as regal, genuine, true. (Please note, the absence of perfect.) But if McCain's body succumbs to his life's torture, or Obama crosses the hairs of an assassin..... I'd rather have Joe Biden runnin' the shit than Sarah Palin!

1. I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.
2. How about never? Is never good for you?
3. I see you've set aside this special time to humiliate yourself in public.
4. I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.
5. It sounds like English, but I can't understand a word you're saying.
6. Ahhh...I see the screw-up fairy has visited us again...
7. I like you. You remind me of myself when I was young and stupid.
8. You are validating my inherent mistrust of strangers.
9. The fact that no one understands you doesn't mean you're an artist.
10. Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.
11. Nice perfume. Must you marinate in it?
12. Oh I get it... like humor... but different.

Shamelessly stolen from a job posting.

And you know I applied for it, man!
