Today i sat in on a meeting in Stormont held be the Department of the Enviroment Committee with some friends from the RSPB. Theres a lot out there we could contact these people about. But one initiative that they all said they would support was this -
You should have a look too if you have a minute. Please support this if you can.
Alternatively you could contact the Department of the Enviroment to make sure theyre doing what they can.
Good work!!

Thanks to Colum Delaney and Zelda Sacoto

Current mood:  awake
Things have all gone a bit quiet recently, after all the banter of the past 3 months. But not to worry as soon as marks get back from sunning himself in Florida, we will resume annihilating all in 10 mile radius.

Since tour and a small flourish of gigs, we've been practising hard writing the new EP, which we are all super stoked about (exept mark, who had theme parks on his mind). Its nearly complete and we can confirm it will be heavier and more brutal than anything before. Beware. After a couple of gigs with our mortal enemies UNDER STARS AND GUTTERS, we will be in the studio turning this bad boy into our brand new EP.

We will be recording at Oh Yeah Centre with Barret, and so far so good. All is very much on track.

We will hopefully get a release on the go, followed by a small tour of all of Ireland.

Then if all goes to plan, we will be booking a tour of the mainland in October.

So thats it pretty much up to date, one last thing: make sure you check out this gig

Apart from the epic line up, I (niall) will be doing my first DJ set, it promises to be unreal! 90s classics all the way!

When Axis of got together we all talked in detail about some causes and issues we wanted to get behind and show our support for. We also dicussed some negative things we wanted to express distaste for.
It seems like a long time ago now but we're proud to say we still maintain our stance as passionately active and (hopefully) positive members of the human race.

We've worked with some good people on some massively important issues and we are still real happy to ascociate ourselfs with some constructive movements.

Here are some of the organisations we've been getting innvolved with most recently.

Aside from all this excellent stuff above, the lovely guys from snitch have put together an excellent show for a great cause and were nice enough to invite us to play. Have a look at this poster and all the websites!

Hey all people in the world. Our chums from Friends of the Earth sorted Niall and I with some tickets to see The Age of Stupid today at the Queens Film theatre. The age of stupid is now! Stupidy is the bit where we (simply enough) destroy the planet and no mass mobilisation to stop it is put in place. Dramatic? yes! (Thats the idea) Simple? No! Ive just compressed a huge framework and tangle of people and responsibilities into bulletin format, but keep reading.
Some would argue its not the greatest film/mentary in history. But what it does do is highlight what some of us see as the biggest challenge we face yet.  It highlights lots more than that, so try as best you can to check it out.
The distribution model thats been created for this film means that anyone can host their own public screening of the film with no legal hassle involved. So who's up for setting this up? Id go again....
And let me just tell you Niall is a huge Postlethwaite fan, that in mind we (Humans) are bound to have a swell aul time for-eva-zzz

A few people have been asking about Kellys, St Paddies Day Hooley and why we’ve decided to pull out of the show.

I hate to disappoint you all but its not as radical or as controversial as some people might have hoped. It’s a dullish story with no explosions or fast cars.

Admittedly our motives for the feeling we got and our cancellation are possibly a bit incoherent or even hypocritical, also we risk alienating ourselves from some good mates, favourite bands and helpful people.  We’re also well aware of the fact that we aren’t going to be part of a BIG show, playing for lots of people which is a rare thing for Axis of. But it’s hard to argue with gut feeling and we didn’t feel that it was the gig for us.

.. ..

With love and solidarity to all who are understanding.

Big shout out for Donkey, Much love.

Right we have a few updates, so listen up!!!
2008 proved to be a moderatly good year for us sad lot of pathetic losers. We recorded our debut album, released it locally, played the mighty SOLIDARITY,  played a few festivals and most importantly wore shorts at every gig.

2009 though holds alot more:
We finally have a good load of proper CD's full booklet cd's all professional jobby and they looked fuckin great if i do say so myself. They will be on sale at every gig we play from now on, selling for the bargain price of £5. For an album that is just mental.

We're looking forward to some garagantuous gigs with brilliant bands, The Restarts, Adebisi Shank, Conflict, our first gig with Bruised Fruits promotions in Auntie Annies, The Nuclear Fest and Punks picnic which were both highlights last year.
Currently in the Process of arranging a tour with a few gigs in Ireland, then a good few in South England and Wales. Its looking promising!
We are also going to be getting more involved with Friends of the Earth, we'll have some news on events with us and them in the future.
We have some new shit ready to gig which is ripping and we're hoping to record a new EP sometime maybe Mid-Summer after we give this album abitta exposure accross the lands.

We beg of you to keep a look on the page and try and stay updated. Come to some gigs you like the look of and stay involved. THINGS LOOK SAWEEEET!
Heres to 09.

Category: Life
I come to you, to tell you all about something people around the Triangle will have known for a while.

I'm a wee bit pissed of right now, some of you or very little will have noticed that i moved up to Belfast recently, so i obviously haven't seen much of the very north in the last 3 Months (thats not why i'm pissed off, its what has gone on since i moved that has angered me).

We have a song on the up and coming album, called Concrete Coast, it is about the amount of unreasonable ammount of property develpment going on in around this area, houses and buildings being knocked down for the sake of more new fucking apartments, so rich people from other parts of this island can live in when they feel the sun is warm enough. I find this infuriating, anyone can see Portrush looks like a scene from a zombie film in the day time in the winter, because none of its summer Inhabatints would go near it in the dark winter days.

This development can relate to anything, many places i hold close to my heart have been removed, even though alot of people have great memories of it, (which leads me to the main point). THE POOL.

Fucking hell, for someone who skated for only 6 months, i have some amazing memories, and im sure anyone who has for longer has many more. Not only that it was always great for a piss up. Generations of skaters have came through there, and many freinds have been made.

I would like anyone reading this to take a look at this article wrote by some root in this band. I couldnt have put the depressing nature of this story better myself.

Also Bennys is gone, only a small group of people can appriciate the magic of this bench, but its dead. Tore up for a few fancy tiles, god i cant face dinner

AXIS OF - INTERVIEW (with billy riot)

1] Oi, Oi, give us a quick intro. to the band, who plays what and when, where and why you got together?
Mark plays drums, Niall plays the riffage and I, Ewen, play bass and howl, but Mark and Niall do their fair share of singing too. We got together just less than a year ago when our previous endevours, The Dragged and Man Over Bored, were  disbanding. We wanted to start something fresh, playing a different style and working towards different goals so we started Axis Of and have been embarassing ourselves ever since.

2] Ewen was previously in Manoverbored, who played an almost old school 1979 new wavish punk. How conscious were you that people would be surprised at the fairly extreme change in musical style between the two bands?
We were well aware that people would recognise the vast differences in style. The new band doesnt sound anything like our past bands and some people have been put off, but we couldnt exactly be expected to keep up the old style just for those few people. Those old times were good but we wanted to try something new. We have had some slack for this move but I guess you cant keep everyone happy, we recognise that people arent obligated to like us, just as we're not obligated to change for anyone but ourselves.

3] Do you think older punk rockers can be guilty of being conservative and even threatened by the current crop of young bands?
Yea of course! But in a way this is too be expected, it happens all the time even outside the shackles of the punk rock scene. We're just glad there are also alot of the older punk rock fans who are into whats goin on now.

4] Do you think that downloads/I Pods and all that ballacks, is making it more difficult for bands to sell CD's and therefore cover their costs?
Yea that is something you do come across more often but to be fair its just the continuing evolution of the music industry. Vinyl killed recitals, CDS killed tapes, Herman Li will kill us all. I don't really download very often so I'm not really at liberty to comment academically.

5] You have a song on your debut CD EP "Apple Meat" called "Architects of Hair!" that has quite scathing lyrics. What or who was the main inspiration behind this song?
That track could be seen as the generic "band slags scene" ditty. The lyrics were written in direct response to the slander and abuse we received from show offs for starting a band that wanted to write songs concerning what we believe to important. The lyrics are quite sarcastic and satirical, but its basically a dig at our very critical friends mentioned previously.

6] To this point what bands have you most enjoyed playing alongside and what band[s] would you most like to play with.? Bands we like to play with :
                                                     Toxic Waste/BR
                                                     STUNT
                                                     Droppin Bombs
                                                     The Lobots
                                                     Never Close
                                                     Apathetic Youth
                                                     ASIWYFA
                                                     Daniel Man'ni
                                                     Inner Terrestrials
                                                     Bulbous Head
                                                     Still Birth

Bands we would like to play with: The Exploited?

7] Punk bands in general and anarcho-punk bands in particular are often guilty of getting tied up in their issues. How important do you think it is to "sometimes" just have fun?
Yea of course its extremely important to have fun or you'll lose focus and your mind amongst other things. Although there are countless bands out there, ourselves incuded, that are extremely passionate about their ideas and messages its essential to distance yourself from this at times and be a human.

8] In Northern Ireland, first generation punk rockers very rarely seem to support new young bands. Why do think this is the case?
No idea, probably because we rock hard and they have sore bones!

9] Do you see yourselves still being involved in punk rock in 20 years time? Undoubtably in some way.

10] OK, the interview has been too serious to this point, time for some random stupid questions;

a] should darts be a compulsory sport in school? Only if the same can be done with Formula One

b] is being ginger a disease and do you think MP Iris Robinson believes it can be cured?
Dont be so insensitive, we have a ginger haired member in our band, would you believe it! This is a very touchy subject for us.

c] How can you possibly identify a UFO?
Ask Herman Li. He must have spent some time in one... Shredding!

d] Who would win in a girly bitch fight between Beyonce and Shakira? Chuck Norris

e] Should Belfast International Airport be renamed the Dickie Best airport just to make it fair?
Only if the entire country is re-named Bestland.

11] Enough of this aul bolllocks, just tell us of your plans/hopes for the future and anything else you want to add?
Well we're just finished recording our debut album, it will be being released on Belfast Records mid August. We hope to have launch party up north around then. We have some water crossing planned for after the summer. Lots of gigs and releases forever we hope. To anyone reading - Please observe sarcasm where applicable.

The second is an interview with an online punk Fanzine from the Midlands, that focuses on just asking 3 questions, but 3 important ones (we cant put it up just yet, but take a look on his site for it):

CAOIMHE

Kino was a tad angy at the cock chaffer that he flattened with his fist, yours truely is angry about the supposed "good" programing Ive missed. Pen it quick! I wonder where? this pen came from and who? and what? was exploited, dont make think about The Exploited. (be)cause me and friends are cynical, satirical not coy though. I have a friend who's Coy or is that Mackerel? It must be said how franticaly we comb the bed fanatically. And Tella under the carpe somewhere, her and mumsy wonder why we couldn't squeeze pollution and death into some other corner of the sphere, well we did and had wars while we were doing it. Would you be up for signing a petition or would it be easier to rely on existing prejudice and harmful stereotypes? Im infinitely similar. Like everyone - like nature as she herself discriminates. Cynic is right treated lightly with a smile and wave! Subtle reference to mirrored actions that sent millions to their graves. There's literally to many important things to worry about, says I and Caoimhe with sodden feet at - tributaries that cost 100 thousand years (£4 and a membership card) to see.

(sing together loudly)We said this was a complicated tangle. We fight more wars than we ever have before. If we dont fight for earth who will?

HUMAMOIDS (and their stinking anti-diverse attitudes)

Wanna boogie? Wanna dance? Oyea speaking of romance. Love measured out with intoxication come row, pills, headbutt, submissive teen, blood brow. Please escape for goodness sake. Open minds not skulls. I hate to go on but im forced with incredible (frustration).
Wanna boogie? Wanna dance? Oyea speaking of romance. A trend of having bad attitudes. Revising nothing the brain excludes.
Please escape for goodness sake. Open minds not skulls. I hate to go on but im forced with incredible frustration. FRU STRA TION.

*work the next bit out for yourseves, Then singalong . . .

ENJOI YOUR FREEDOM!

NOT OF NEEDLES, BUT OF CHANGE

To whom it is applicable, I apologise sincerely for my actions or lack of direct activity like a saviour. No its not a joke. I wish it was. "Punks with a conscience" - Thats adorable but our previous levels of progress were ignorable. 2 (What have and havent we done?) I could've given blood but i was too scared not of needles but of change. Theres very little left for us to salvage from ourselves especially when the opposite is so convenient. Blank mind conform(ability) Im as guilty as you all. 2 (Not just me anyone anyone at all. Doomed is our generation humans creep and crawl).
Im not pushing anybody stubborn enough to stick with this trend of inactiveness. But my advise will stand strong - Indepth review of whats goin on around you, without recess.

OOOOOO OO O O O
OOOOOO OO O O O

I could've handed in loose change along with my apathy or herald important charity. Five more minutes protesting at the gates of my school or five more songs rejecting (certain***) rule.

(Not just me anyone anyone at all. Doomed is our generation humans creep and crawl). Blank mind conform(ability) Im as guilty as you all.

Respect! believe we can retrieve culture that wont re-offend. And I wont faulter now humble apology - The first step.

So i am sitting here on this dull wednesday night, and doing my usual method of judging bands by listening to them while reading their lyrics at the same time. I was just going through an album i bought a week or so ago called "One Nation Under The Iron Fist Of God" by a crustish hardcore band called Behind Enemy Lines. Our boy bobby listens to alot of underground shit that i usually turn my diluted nose up at, but this is 1 band i will be eternaly greatful to him for showing me.
Apart from my love beloved Propagandhi, this band have the best political and social lyrics out there. Plus there fucking epic. So enough of this sounding like a review, there is a point to this.

The whole albums great, but i came across 1 song called, "Turning a Blind Eye". The lyrics kinda cought my ears when i was kinda just relaxing so i looked them up in the booklet and they are so spot on with what I am thinking about alot these days. I don't know the exact meaning, but its not to hard to decifer, its basically about the amount of apathy that circles the western world and how it especially linked with the horrifying reality of life in many african and 3rd world countrys over the world. I think it relates to the general public but mostly governments.

I know for certain i am just as guilty as everyone about being active on this situation, and its starting to hit home that we should take responsability, god knows how, but its deffinetly worth thinking about.  Many governments and media stations say never again, and action must be taken, but yet we seem to see the same patterns going on over and over in the same area's and seeing it spreading to other area's. I can say for definite i have overheard people talking in my school about the disgusting scenes that you see on the news of coverage from places like Darfur, Rwanda , Bhurma and many other places, and how its such a breach of human rights. Yet when it comes down to it, news of say Heath Ledger dieing, will be much more hard hitting to most people. I have nothing against him atall, but when sizing up importance, i have to say the death of thousands of innocent people in such brutal circumstances is a hell of alot more important than another Hollywood star dying of an overdose or what ever it was. I think this extremely relevent, because even after Hotel Rwanda, people say that these events should not happen, they always do. One of the first songs we wrote as a band, was about the situation in Darfur, and how its well and good making a movie out of such a terrible event as Rwanda, yet whats the point if the awareness it raises is not capatalised on atall. By the way as i write this i take full responsability as a person who has turned a blind eye, but im starting to realise that 1 person can make a difference, and the more people who take the stance, "what can i do im over here its miles away and i have my own problems", thats another person that could be getting up and making a difference. So from now on im going to do my best to look into even small things i could do to help, and small things we as a band could do to make a difference.

Anyways here are the lyrics, they probably sound silly without music, but i strongly recomment this band to you, because theyve helped me realise that asides from the fact that Marks an idiot for saying we should right more songs like The Casualties and less like this band, they are one of the best punk bands out there:

Too much agony and bloodshed for the perpetrators to hide
Too much apathy and bloodlust for us to justify
Too much western world indifference to keep this savagery at bay
Too much need for intervention to just look the other way
For the refugees of Darfur
The end result looks bleak
Our never ending evasion
Their end without relief
We sit and debate while the militias bathe in blood
The first world has forsaken all of those who died
Brutalized by bigotry, abandoned by the world
We have turned a blind eye to genocide
Not enough tolerance, attention or humanitarian aid
Not enough of an outcry to stop the bludgeoning with the blade
Not enough compassion to combat all of this despair
Not enough resources to be plundered for the western world to care
Atrocities committed
The machete swings again
As our population thinks
Their population thins
We sit and debate while the militias bathe in blood
The first world has forsaken all of those who died
Brutalized by bigotry, abandoned by the world
We have turned a blind eye to genocide
They plead
We look the other way
They bleed
We look the other way
They die and we just look the other way
Can't we utilize more than empty rhetoric? can't we do more than pretend?
Can't we show some real conviction when we say "never again"?
Can't we see where this is heading? Can't we see what is at stake?
Can't we ever learn our lesson and not repeat our past mistakes?
They pay with their lives
We pay them no attention
We bury our heads in the sand
As they bury their children
We sit and debate while the militias bathe in blood
The first world has forsaken all of those who died
Brutalized by bigotry, abandoned by the world
We have turned a blind eye to genocide

I know my grammer sucks, and some of my points are probably off the mark. But sure leave us a comment, its gd to chat!

Over and out for torres and kuyt! Niall
