For those that might or might not know, my new EP, The Wonder, has officially been released as of today. I'm ecstatic to see that the EP has already climbed the iTunes Top 100 Album Chart to reach #46, so far... And I just basically wanted to encourage those of you who haven't bought the EP yet, to do so!

Please note that this EP was completely independently funded. I do NOT have a record label. I do NOT have a PR firm helping out with marketing. This is a full-on grassroots release,... So, the power is literally in all of your hands. Any help you give in spreading the word is greatly greatly greatly appreciated, please know that (whether if it's from you adding a song to your profile, posting a Tweet, bulletin, or blog, telling a friend, etc...) And to any of you that buy, or have bought, the EP... Thank you... From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

You can buy The Wonder - EP now for just $4.95 on iTunes HERE.

Thanks,
Chad

This coming Friday, November 27th, I'll be debuting the full version of "The Great Unknown", the first single from my upcoming new EP, The Wonder. So, I thought I'd go ahead and share the full lyrics to the song with you all now...
Here you go:

The Great Unknown
So what, you've got a lot of nerve, don't you? Wrapped up in a silhouette of light. I think I heard you say "The world is ending." Guess not, 'cause we're both still alive. Do you remember when September was living? Yeah, the heart of life was still good to go. No one could touch us. We were living a dream, and we liked our music acoustic, pretty, and slow. I'm through trying to like the lightning. Something's gone, but finally I can see. You might be my last chance at a good thing. Bring back the way they looked at us when we picked up guitars and learned to cuss. This is our year, we can do what we want. Making history no one will see in a parking lot. Sometimes I make a list of the things I don't get right, a complicated dream of the scenes my mind made up. Did you lie when you said you missed me? Let's all drop this wish somehow. I'll be fine, I promise. I'm through trying to like the lightning. Something's gone, but finally I can see you're a good thing. You might be my last chance at a good thing. You might be my last chance.

Be sure to catch the debut of the full version of the song this Friday, the 27th right here on Myspace. If you haven't yet, you can hear a minute long preview clip of the song @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nFR82BEgAc.

Feel free to let me know what you think of the lyrics in the comments, and don't forget my new EP, The Wonder, will be available January 5th, 2010 :)

Cheers,
Chad

Hey all!
I wanted to address this directly, so everyone will know the specifics…
beginning with my October tour, I will be adding a full band for my live shows. The thing I wanted to make clear though, was this,… I will still be writing every part of every Backseat Goodbye song you ever hear. The new live band members will literally only be for live shows, they’re not official members of the band, they’re just awesome dudes coming along on tour with me to play bass & drums to make my live shows more fun.
I’ve toured solo for the last five years, and it’s been great (and don’t worry, I’ll still be working solo parts into my shows every single night), but I’ve finally decided it’s time to take my live show up a big step. I can also assure you that just because I’m adding a full live band, that does NOT mean that I’ll be making all of my songs electric or distorted… no no, I’ll still be playing my trusty acoustic on stage for every song… the only difference will be that the songs will actually sound like my recordings instead of stripped down solo versions.
Also, this decision was made by me,… not businessmen behind the curtiain. I’ve wanted to add a full live band for quite some time now, I just feel that the time was ever right until now. I really can’t wait to share this new live show with you. If you’ve ever been to a show of mine before, expect that, except 100 times more fun. My last main point from this, for anyone that’s worried I’ll be changing with this full live band…. don’t worry, I’m still going to be the same guy on stage with an acoustic guitar, singing at the top of his lungs about the good things, except now I’ll just have a couple friends on stage with me to help us all sings these songs a little louder to remind ourselves we’re still alive.
- Chad
P.S. - Just so you all know, the new live members are my great friend, Marshall Pittman (from Ladybug Landslide,) and my new awesome friend, Davey Hudson.
P.P.S. - Hope to see you all out at one of the October shows (full listing is on my profile, more dates coming soon!)

Here are my answers to a bunch of the questions you all left on my blog the other day :)

You seemed so annoyed when i met you, which i don't hold against you, musicians have hard days. but i was just wondering about that.
I can assure you, if I seemed like I was annoyed by you, that wasn't the case at all. You are probably right though, I was probably just not having a good day, and wasn't able to make that not show. So, I apologize for that... because I really do my best to make sure whenever I meet anyone that's a fan of my music, that they know I appreciate them so much, and I'm actually just as stoked to talk to them :)

Batman or Spiderman? & Why.
Spider-Man, because he's the greatest superhero ever.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I like going out to movies, watching TV, and reading the occassional book. May seem boring, but it's the truth.

Where do you like to get clothes?
American Apparel for hoodies, and I like the old-school nerd shirts at Hot Topic too. But I'll buy clothes pretty much anywhere that I see something I like, so Goodwill should be on that list too.

If you werent a musician/singer/artist, which career would you have chosen?
Graphic Designer.

What made you want to write  "feel-good" music rather than something edgy?
I've found that I just don't feel like there's enough "feel-good" music out there... so I figured I'd make my own.

What embarrassing songs might I find on your I-Pod?
Eh, I don't think people should be embarrassed by the music they listen to. But I'm sure many people would laugh at the amount of Disney and Avril Lavigne albums I have on my iPod ;)

Did high school make you die a little on the inside, too?
Yep, like you wouldn't believe. A bit of advice for that though, it will get better, and one day you'll miss some parts of it.

What's your favorite Fun song?
Ahh, I seriously LOVE that entire album,... but as of now my favorite song is probably "Light A Roman Candle With Me".

Besides tennessee, which state have you toured in the most?
Probably Indiana.

What would you trade your music career for, if anything?
Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Are you a starwars fan? Haha or startrek?
Star Wars all the way.

What's your favorite song today?
Right this second, I would have to say "Electric Twist" by A Fine Frenzy.

Who is your favorite author?
Charles Bukowski

You list a lot of musical inspiration, but how about movies? Audrey Hepburn, maybe? Or Michael Gondry?
I definitely get inspiration from movies. Some movies off the top of my head that I've written about in songs: High Fidelity, Nightmare Before Christmas, The Breakfast Club.

If you could tour with anyone right now, who would it be and why?
I'd be stoked for a tour with Fun. I saw them live a couple months ago, and it's just a great atmoshpere when they're performing.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from it?
My first job was literally at McDonald's... and I learned that I don't like working at fast food places. Ha.

Do you consider yourself a person or a famous person? and what's your definition of both?
I consider myself a person. It just seems like if I considered myself famous I would be putting myself above other people... and I would never do that. I'm a firm believer in the thought that we're all the same.

Is there a reason that you haven't been signed to a record label yet? Have you had any offers? Do you want to get signed, and who do you want to sign you?
Actually, I signed a distribution deal with a record label once, a label called The Militia Group. I'm out of that deal now, but I wouldn't mind be signed to a label at all, just as long as they came to me with an offer that didn't disrupt my own personal music process and overall sound.

I love your new book, I already have a few favorite poems. My question, though, is whether you would ever write a novel, if so, what genre?
Awesome, thanks so much! And I'd like to write a novel, and I've actually kind of tried a time or two,... but I'm waiting until the right inspiration comes for that.

What's you're favorite Bright Eyes album?
Lifted.

What sports did you play in high school?
I played travel ice hockey and roller hockey, as well.

Are you gay? because i'm pretty sure you're not. but this confuses me:
"'cause see boys they have a tendency of running from me"
please don't be offended by the question.
That lyric confuses a lot of people, so I'm not offended. But no, I'm not gay.
See, the lyric is actually part of the lyric before it, and it's all supposed to be a sentence together... and the sentence is actually supposed to be looked at as coming from a girl I'm singing about.

When will you put out the new ep/cd?
This Fall. I'll be announcing the official release date soon :)

Will you be touring to (enter random U.S. city here) anytime soon?
I'll be touring pretty much the whole U.S. from October through December...
so just keep an eye on my tour dates :)

Thanks to all of you for the questions :)

- Chad

Hey all,

I'm just sitting in a random Louisville hotel, after another day of recording, and I'm pretty bored right now....

so, I thought I'd see if you all had any questions for me.

If you have something you'd like to ask me, just leave your question in a comment on this blog. I'll post my answers to questions that are "answerable" in a new blog :)

Hey all,

Just wanted to give a heads up that my recording plans have changed a bit, and here's what's up:

This August, after my quick two week tour with Ryan Cabrera, I'll be going into the studio to record my new EP with Ace Enders (you know, the guy from The Early November, I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business, Ace Enders & A Million Different People) in New Jersey! I'll also be going to record some other songs for the EP with the always awesome Chris Browder from Mansions, in Louisville, KY.

After that more touring will ensue!

Anyways, just wanted to share the awesome new news,
hope you all are as stoked as I am!

Hey All,

I'm glad to share the final tracklisting for my upcoming brand new EP, Apples.
This is a special release, because I recently found out that my birthday falls on a Tuesday this year (July 14th), and that's the day of the week new CDs are generally released... so to keep you busy until my next full length is ready, I figured I'd go ahead and put out a nice little new EP.

So yeah, below is the tracklisting, cover art,  and release info.

Apples - EP
Available on iTunes July 14th, 2009
Tracklisting
1. Sunglasses
2. Apples
3. Sing Me Something Pretty
4. Kilo Riley
5. I've Got A Feeling

I also thought I'd share a bit about what the songs are like...
- "Sunglasses" is just a fun upbeat pop song about touring that has a big lyrical refrence to a song by The Format.
- "Apples" is a love song about a story I read about between two people that met as children during the Holocaust.
- "Sing Me Something Pretty" is a song about my own past and future, and growing up too fast.
- "Kilo Riley" is a song about protecting the people you love from the dark side of the world.
- "I've Got A Feeling" is a song about screwing up and actually realizing you did. It's also the song on the album that will make you think "Is this really Backseat Goodbye?", because it's very different from anything I've done before. But don't worry, it's definitely still noticeably a BG song by heart.

I'll be sure to start sharing some audio clips and lyrics from the songs soon over at my daily blog @ backseatgoodbye.tumblr.com

I'll be playing one of each of the new songs live on my upcoming June tour to try them out before the EP's released, in case if you wanted added incentive to come to that tour :)

But yeah, that's it for now, hopefully you're as stoked as I am :)

- Chad

P.S. - Yes, this means that if you want to be super awesome and get me a gift for my birthday this year, then you can just pick up my EP on iTunes on July 14th ;)
