Pinheads; Speakers in MarlboroFor the first time in over 100 shows, I've done, one of my dates got the
axe. I've sold out 30 nights in a row at Goodtimes in Somerville (500+
tickets a night), sold out the Middle East, Bulfinch Pub, booked shows
with 10's of thousands at the Freedom Rally. We've been featured in
newspapers and magazines (I'm featured in the Boston Phoenix today
BTW), been on WBCN, WAAF, WRKO, WBZ, as well as tv shows. My track
record with booking/running promotions with bands and shows speaks for
itself.
I booked a show, June 5th at Speakers in Marlboro,
through a friend that was booking shows over there. My friend did two
shows over there and apparently they didn't do as good as they should
have. My first and only show was scheduled for June 5th with
Graveyard BBQ (HIGH TIMES Doobie Award Winners, Guitar Hero video game, Freedom Rally headliners),
Keep Me Conscious (Formerly Cherry S/T), Tester and a Black Sabbath Tribute act.
The
show has been booked for two months and we've been promoting it. Keep
Me Conscious has a tour booked and this was not an easy date for me to
pull. I could have booked this show anywhere. I chose Speakers because
of my friend. I've done many dates and I know for a fact that this show
would have been another sell out.
Today, I talked with the owner
of Speakers, Norm. Norm claims he never knew about the show/date which
is a lie. Norm then says original bands and heavy metal are not allowed
at his club. This show is hardly heavy metal. Keep Me Conscious
certainly is not what any would refer to as heavy metal. Despite the
fact that he booked and held a far more hardcore show just weeks ago
with Diecast. Norm now claims that he doesn't book original or what he
labels heavy metal. Our show is not what anybody with half a clue would
call heavy metal or hardcore.
Often booking agents do get
bounced from clubs. It's happened to me while booking shows with agents
at two other clubs, the Middle East and O'Briens. Both of those clubs
did the right thing and honored the shows that the former booking
agents already had scheduled. This is how professional clubs handle
their shows. But not with Norm and Speakers. I gave him every
opportunity to fix this. He wanted me to come in to talk with him and
book him some cover bands! What a joker. I'm going to bring my services
to a club that just fucked over my bands?
To any bands that
have shows booked at Speakers. Cancel them. Send me a message and I
will book you at a real club with no ego bs from clueless pin heads
that treat people like dog dirt. I'll feature you on my websites, get
you some write ups in the local press. That's what I do.

Do not go to this club.
And for
Norm and Bill at Speakers, expect to be sued. A verbal agreement will
not be tossed from court. I heard you loud and clear today. "No written
contract", like that protects you? It doesn't. Better consult your
lawyer, because I have and it will be heard. You lied about not
knowing. You lied about not booking original or heavy metal acts. Who's
more heavy metal? This show or Diecast? I heard the Allens play the
same AC/DC songs that BBQ covers. So again you lie. The Allens who I
recently saw at your club are as heavy metal as Graveyard BBQ. Get a
clue and don't lie to bands and promoters, especially ones that don't
take shit or get screwed over. And Norm, if you lie in court, it's a
crime, better get it straight.
If you like to express your displeasure, please send them messages on
myspace and
facebook, let them know you will never again spend money at a club that treats local musicians like this.
