Cool blog review this week over at Cay You See the Sunset, which is a superb Chicago music blog:http://www.canyouseethesunset.com/article/review-beat-radio-sunday-matinee-ep Can anyone tell me why more people aren't clamoring for Brian Sendrowitz and Beat Radio to tour and release more than just a handful of songs at a time? Like everything else this band has released, their new EP Sunday Matinee is totally amazing and evokes nostalgic feelings that are beyond words. Fuzzy like a faded picture from your childhood and perfectly worn like your favorite pair of blue jeans the music of Beat Radio is familiar but unlike just about anything else I would want to compare it to. Brian's warbly vocals are full of a sincerity and warmth that is impossible to resist. Just take some quirky electro-pop and filter it through dusty urban Americana that sounds reminds you of wherever you call home. Cool Review of the Love is Noise Pop show over the the limewire blog: Beat Radio @ The Delancey 10.4.08
Posted on
October 07, 2008
I've written about Beat Radio numerous times in the past, but hadn't seen them live until this weekend, when they headlined the Love Is Noise Pop Festival at The Delancey. Since you're most likely unfamiliar with this Brooklyn treasure, head over to the band's myspace page and stream a few tunes before reading the rest of this review.
Now,
I've spent the past two years listening to this band religiously, in
which time, I've created my own vision of what a Beat Radio show would
look like. For the most part, I was right on. Lead singer/songwriter
Brian Sendrowitz exposes all of his insecurities and heartbreaks
through his music, establishing his shy personality. As imagined, this
uncomfortable nature comes to life on stage -- in between songs,
Sendrowitz awkwardly squirms in his skin, keeping his banter to a
minimum. He prefaces each song with a short descriptive phrase -- "This
song is about...making a Mix-Tape for your Girlfriend." However,
once the music starts, he exudes a refreshingly humble confidence as he
enters his comfort zone behind the guitar. His vocals shake a little
from nerves, which fall right into place with the lyrical themes.
Throughout the half hour set, the band played a handful of tunes from
their debut EP The Great Big Sea, along with a few new ones from Sunday Matinee.
A passionate performance from Sendrowitz, backed by energetic display
from the rest of the band. You can download most of the songs they
played on BeatRadio.Org.

"I made you a mixtape/ Okay, it's not a tape at all/ But it's full
of sad songs/ that make summer feel like fall". Thus begins "Teenage
Anthems For The Drunken Boat", the first song from Beat Radio's Sunday Matinee
EP, a three-song vignette of lo-fi indie pop, sparse electronics, a
thriving backbeat and the lyrics and tonal embodiment of all these
things in singer-songwriter Brian Sendrowitz. The songs make us coo
and take deep breaths, the kind of feeling we get when a masterpiece is
witnessed. Much like genre forefathers like Luna or Moonbabies,
the joy is just from listening, even if there's more sadness than joy
within the songs themselves. With the changing of seasons full upon us
these days, we welcome Beat Radio into our arms, like a just-finished
scarf or a steamy cup of hot chocolate.

SUNDAY MATINEE
Beat Radio - Teenage Anthem For the Drunken BoatBeat Radio have a new free EP available at their website. Listen/download it over here. I've kinda been following the band for the last couple years as they've released their debut album and numerous EPs/ demos,
and this might be one of their strongest releases to date. It's short
and sweet and, as always, buoyed along by Brian Sendrowitz's simple,
cathartic melodies, youth-inspired poetry, and guitar pop arrangements
that are forever racing towards the horizon. www.beatradio.org

web siteI’m not sure if we’ve talked about anyone on this blog as much as we have Beat Radio. They launched our Word on the Beat
series with Brian’s stellar cover and article on why Van Morrison
influences him so much. We’ve reviewed EPs, LPs, singles and pretty
well anyone associated with the band. At the end of the day,
Sendrowitz and those he surrounds himself with are terrific people and
stellar musicians who write music for the love or writing music. Not
sure, but I think that is the type of person us bloggers are supposed
to hunt down, not the dudes with PR and label support. Anyway – - Beat Radio is giving us all another free EP.
Three songs and another identity for Brian, Phil, Brian and Paul.
They've run through indie rock anthems, folk and now they seem to have
struck middle ground but somehow fused big classic rock guitars and
huge solos into the equation. The interesting thing is that even
though Brian still wears his heart on his sleeve, unleashing
insecurities and envy usually reserved for the darkest conversations in
the most tucked away corners, he uses the huge riffs and surging energy
to cement his emotions. After wrestling with alienation, Sunday Matinee builds and builds as Brian finds strength in his convictions, holding onto the hope that love does in fact conquer all.
