We are adding all the videos made for 1994's Mellow Gold. This was Beck's first full length album release and these are first attempts in the video form. They were mostly home made with little budget and even borrowed film, with Director Steve Hanft and friends. Loser was made with a two man crew, director Steve Hanft and Beck himself. The moving coffin was a reference to Bunuel's film Simon Of The Desert. The effect was achieved by using stop frame animation, where Beck and Steve would have to move the coffin an inch at a time then shoot a frame of film. This process continued over a year long period. Also look for cameos by folk dancer Jesco, as well as Eddie Lopez, who built the sculpture on the cover of the Mellow Gold album, playing Beck's guitar 'Jazzercise' on the roof of the garage where he lived and worked. The video also contains footage of Beck's leaf blower performance at famed club Raji's in the early 90's. As a performance piece, he covered the stage with leaves, came out and blew them into the audience then recited a monologue. The Beercan video was a performance piece involving actual homeless people from Downtown Los Angeles who were asked to invade a suburban house and destroy it. This was documented, then edited together in a collage with performance footage as well as a series of recreations of old magazine advertisements from the 60's and 70's. Look for a cameo by Buzz Osbourne from the Melvins playing guitar in his backyard as well as driving a forklift. The third video is a clip for Pay No Mind, shot mostly in Echo Park and featuring found footage from an episode of 70's show 'In Search Of...' hosted by Leonard Nimoy Look in the videoteque to see these Mellow Gold era documents.
