So seeing as how it's been a few months, the Artist of the Month becomes the Artist Spotlight. And to jumpstart this change, it's with great honor Xion brings you Blair Smith.
Bio:
Blair Smith was born in Fairfax Virginia in1970, then relocated with his family to South Jersey at the age of four. First influenced by his mother and grandmother’s creativity, he followed his love of art to college. He graduated valedictorian of illustration at the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1990, receiving an Associates Degree in Illustration. He has been employed as Creative Director for over a decade, creating environmental and commercial designs for one of the nations largest sign companies on the east coast.
Projects involved with: Blair officially became a published comicbook artist this year as part of TALES OF THE STARLIGHT DRIVE-IN, an anthology released through IMAGE Comics. Writer Mike San Giacomo created 32 stories taking place over 50 years at a Drive-In Theater, featuring 21 artists from around the world. Mirroring life and the cinema with tales of crime, romance, science fiction, musicals, even a western, each stand-alone story combines to create a single novel with a powerful, shocking finale you won’t forget! The book wasnominated for several awards this year, and went on to win BEST GRAPHIC NOVEL OF THE YEAR in the Comic Buyer’s Guide Annual Fan Contest.
In addition, Blair is also a digital colorist for Shot In The Dark Comics: with "Brix" and "Raphael" coming out 2009. A solo project on the drawing board is "SDS", "The Shaolin Death Squad"- a cover to cover story due in 2010. Blair is also the creator of the "Supernova" project and is currently looking for up-and-coming artists to develop it.
Blair is also one of the many artists to be included in the just released Xion sketchbook-Extend To Solid Line Vol1- and is expected to be at the Brave New Worlds leg of the Book signing Tour on Saturday August 8th.
