I missed my chance to see Jill Sobule perform yesterday--6/11/06. I decided I'd take a pass at the two bus transfers and one train ride out from the suburbs. The gig was at 8 pm on a Sunday night in Chicago. (Not that I had to worry about getting up early for work today or anything; and the tickets were a fund-able $15.) Actually, the mode of transportation wasn't that much of an issue. So, what was the big deal?

Well, the name of the bar! The venue was a bar called Martyrs'. Forget about that I didn't have a date or that I don't drink! After finally making my way through a big chunk of Melody Beattie's book Codependent No More I took it as a sign (not to ignore) that I should pass on the bar. I did really want to be there, so I guess that counts for something. I think I made a healthy choice. (I wonder if my therapist will think so?) I hope Jill and her audience had a good time. I ended up watching 15 Minutes and The Four Feathers. For a late night snack I deconstructed an already-non-functioning Lexmark printer, scanner, copier combo thingie (technical term).

post-printer, pre-bot

I'm glad I enjoy my own company!

Current mood:  uncomfortable
Category: Food and Restaurants
Sometimes I have a difficult time staying interested in food. So, sometimes I deliberately eat foods (that I prepare) with MSG. I had a conversation with a doctor some years back (a Chinese doctor who was an ESL student of mine). She advocated strongly for the use of MSG (in very small proportion). Since then my thinking has been that it's okay to use MSG from time to time. Well, this afternoon I made some hamburger helper concoction, and the special sauce (it's actually called that: "special sauce") has MSG in the mix. Beyond the fact that the turkey I used (in lieu of ground beef) had what must have been ground up bones in it (is this normal?), now my lungs are congested. I can't seem to clear my throat. I'm wondering if this is symptomatic of an allergy to MSG. I'm going to have to look it up.
