At the end of a street with no houses on the last warm day. In a harvested field in a cold breeze. The sound of farm machines murmur in the distance. Fencelines and wires hum with energy and wind. The insects sing in the fields, the insects are silent after the first freeze.
In each case, arcs of country roads encircle me and spin away into the hills and distance. Drivers and locals wonder who is the stranger in the field.
I'm here, a harvester of the light, to ingather some beauty from the ordinary.
This was October.

With material dating back to 2005, the gestation period of our new album cannot be denied. The good news is we're finally finished tinkering! This collection of ten tracks ranges from the shadowy psychedelic haka of the opening track "Narcissist" to the crackling electronics of "Fragmented Man" to the delicate pianoscapes of "Rainhouse" and "The Aral Sea". Elsewhere, "Spirits" conjures ghosts, LSD, a disappearing Polynesian village, and the anonymity of city life all realized with cinematic swirls of vintage synths, guitars, field recordings, layers of secret textures and tight beats. "Hymns Of Drift" is available in lossless FLAC and mp3 versions and, as always, is free for you to download and enjoy.

Hurricane Fay grazed the beach house on Sunday, and left the surf high and the sky clear on Monday.
I was eating Italian food and sipping a spicy Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon on the beach while the camera watched the horizon fade and a tussock of sea oats dancing with the breeze.

Current mood: luminous
These videos, as simplistic as they may seem, are about a number of things. Most importantly is the "remember to not see through the beauty" manifesto. But there are other facets.
Loneliness. Nature. Electronics becoming organic, or electronics becoming mood. Negative space. Patience, and the subtle changes of light, shadow, and color.
In this case, it was a side trip on a lonely Saturday night before a visit to the grocery store. Near the river, near Sylvan Island, in the remains of the industrial age lay this sort of Stonehenge created long ago to worship machines that turned over earth. It's now a wasteland being reclaimed by prairie weeds and small animals.
The music was written around a single, lush, slowly looping string chord. The surrounding music weaves around this chord organically leaving lots of open spaces, with waves of soft rain and wind field recordings binding it together.
Instruments: Strings & French Horns (Roland Edirol Orchestral), processed Hammond Organ, Electric Piano, Synthesizers (Native Instruments Massive, Spectrasonics Atmosphere), drums

After the unrelenting cold of my last Chronicles installment I thought I would go to the other side.
Antipode. The opposite side of a planet. From December's snow to a land of Forever Summer. From a riverside to the sea. From dusk to dawn.
At 3:30am I woke from my falé beneath the cool of Tumutumu mountain on the American Samoa island of Ofu and made my way outside into the quiet dark. I followed a road along the shore, Crux, the Southern Cross, my only companion just over my right shoulder. Onto a starlit beach and up on a large lava bolder, I sat and waited for the light.
And soon the stars faded and the color returned to the world. The planet turned from the cold night of space and warmed its blue oceanic face in the light of its yellow sun.
Somewhere it was snowing in wintertime, but not here. Somewhere the sun setting into black and white night, but not here. Somewhere there was a war, but not here. Somewhere was someone with whom I could've shared this simple but abundant bounty, but not here. Somewhere else I would've slept late, but not here. There was only the quiet day awakening and unfolding from the firmament above the mirror of the lagoon just for me, just for today.
For this was the ordinary yet unique morning of December 27th as I experienced it alone on a forgotten and far distant shore.

The downloadable (and free!) version of my music for Prenzie Player's "Life's A Dream" is now available on my website here:
http://www.blueinfinite.com/elsueno.php
This download also contains the music I wrote for the end of the first intermission which was recorded during production week after our director JC Luxton asked me to extend the music he'd selected for that point in the show. Since this piece was written and recorded at the last minute I was unable to put it on the CDs we had at the show.
I've also added a mix of what the rest of the first intermission would've sounded like if I had been asked to score it with all original music instead of the film music JC used for the first nine minutes of the intermission. This is manifested in the downloadable version of the album as several minutes of new soundscaping to score the transfer of Sigismund from the tower to the palace. That's right . . . even though the show closed two months ago, I've continued to work on it right up until this week!
More information is on the blue :: infinite website.
Enjoy!
