Category: Music
After over 10 years of  writing, recording and playing live together the members of Bodixa have decided to go their seperate ways and work on new musical projects.

We had lots of fun along the way and played many cool places and are all proud of the music we created an recorded together.

A big thank you to all those who supported us and enjoyed the music.

We hope to make the music we recorded more available over the coming months.

So to pastures new...................

Lead Singer Anna Elias is working on writing and recording new songs with her new project, Anna Elias and The Forlorn Hope. She made an appearence on The BBC Raw talent show last week and I`ll be putting her new myspace in the bodixa top 8.

Guitarist Dave Redfearn has spent most of the last year writing, recording and on the road  with up and coming Irish female Singer Songwriter ODi. Check out the myspace in the top 8. He has also set up a small record label and music company, Littlest Mojo Music to put out and help new music get heard by more people.

Emily (Guitar and Vox) and Dan (Bass) Norton are working on writing songs for their new project Man & Wife. Their first outing in the Live setting is on Sun Sept 23rd at the Brudenell Social Club Leeds as part of the Music Guru`s birthday party. ODi will be also on the same bill!!!

Phil Hicks (Drums) is providing drums and percussion for various different musical projects and bands and has been rehersing with ODi for some full band shows later in the year.

So check out all the new projects!!!

And once again thanks for all your support we have some great memories

We havn`t blogged in quite a while..... mmm could be a first line to a new song!! will have to work on that one!

I Blog fresh from an excellnt evening of music at The Blues Bar Harrogate, one of our favorite haunts! We were joined by Mr Gary Stewart and his band, Its true they do have harmonicas, violins and beards.... well not all of them, Drummer Ruth looks fresh faced to me! oh and they play a great live show aswell, you must check em out! www.myspace.com/garystewartband

Before that ODi started the proceedings off, I have to be tread carefully here as I have every reason to be biased! but Odi got a great reception, people captivated by her voice and songs, go decide for yourself at www.myspace.com/odimusic

Was lovely to be back on the L shaped stage at harrogate and playing to a brilliant listening audience, thanks to those who came down. Good to try out one of the many new songs we have "If you Were..." seemed to get a really warm reception. Overall a fantastic night of Live music!

Oh and we will all be getting together to do it again at Leeds Josephs Well Sun 3rd Dec, should be a cracker! Come along its only £4

Thanks to all those buying the Way back Home EP its been really well received and has picked up plays on Bob Harris Radio 2 amongst others, a real milestone for us! You can still buy a copy for £4 plus pnp from www.bodixa.com. Please Help support us, every copy we sell gets that album nearer the shelves!!  Once we`ve recorded a couple of new ones then we will have the best poss album we can bring to you. Be worth the wait!

In the meantime.... check out the Live dates on our page between no and Xmas. Now I`m back in the land of blog i`ll bring you some info about them!!!

Hello all you lovely People!

Well we have started promoting our new EP "The way Back Home" and it is good fun to be out and about after spending a good while getting everything organised!!

Me and Em went over the M62 to Hull last night to be interviewed on BBC RAW TALENT radio show, broadcast on BBC local radio in the North! Always lovely to meet up with the team there, Alan, Katy and the Lads, who have supported our music since the very early days when i had a little less hair on me face and a little more on me head! Oh and they make a good brew too!! You can here us chit chatting with Alan and playing tracks off the new EP by going to www.bodixa.com !

The official release date is now SEPTEMBER 11th mainly for Radio and review reasons but you can by it right now from www.bodixa.com !!

We are getting ready for the Launch gig this weekend with excitement but a few hic ups!! (I will tell all in BLOG tomorrow)

So the first review of the EP is with us, and what a fab one to get us on our way!! thanks to NEIL FATEA who wrote this review for the Cambridge and beyond website! http://www.fatea.freeserve.co.uk/ check out his myspace in our top friends!

"The Way Back Home ep is as lush as a flower meadow in full bloom and as refreshing as the cool spring that replenishes it. It's an ep that just feels so rich. The vocal, the chord structure it's just so uplifting. "A Room" is a seducers dream. The whole ep has a sense of power and yet feels so vulnerable. It's almost lke you don't want to touch it's beauty in case you shatter it. Yet at the same time you know that there's a spiderweb of strength that holds it together. Aural beauty personified"

We are out of the blocks, with a start colin jackson would be proud of! keep tuning in for more!

All the very best Dave

Way,way back in the mists of time, there lived a queen. So long agothat if you found anything from this era lurking in your loft you d begenuinely overjoyed when The Antiques roadshow told you what it was worth, rather than having to hide your disappointment on live television beneath a thin veneer of mock surprise and overly earnest proclamations that its sentimental value means you d never dream of flogging it on eBay anyway (while inside your dreams of moving to the OC on the profit, calling yourself Brett and throwing pool parties for people the same colour as Morph slowly die).It was AD60,to be precise. This queen led a revolt that almost overthrew the Romans, and her name was Boudicea.

After a couple of Michael Stipe-inspired incarnations as The Red Giraffes and The Orange Fingernails ((Now Wash Your Hands please,REM),this is also the name of some rather wonderful geetar-wielding folk in Leeds.Except with an x added by a deviant computer font that came to stick, presumably to weed out and destroy thicko phonetics-ignorant fans.Pronounce it either boo-dik-a or bo-dik-a ;just don t say bow-dix-a like we did or you ll inadvertently sound like the dik you re leaving out. Bodixa themselves have a sound that might be described as haunting. Not in a depressing,plectrums-and-Prozac kind of way;more like picnicking on nectarines and clouded barley wine on a balmy summer s eve with Casper.

There was actually alleged to be a ghost in the manor house in Ireland in which the five-piece have just finished laying down tracks for their new album, gingerly entitled Small Hours and due for release on Complete this autumn;however, the only member to detect a presence was guitarist Dave s dog and mascot, Little Mo.Given the band s history of misadventure, you d be forgiven for expecting them to be greeted by the entire cast of the Thriller video lumbering from a creaking wardrobe,or at least the Backstreet Boys dressed in black bags saying boo out of a wheelie bin;;previous ill fortunes include being crashed into by a lorry on the way to a gig and held up by armed robbers at another. Yet Lady Luck has courted them too.

Having supported the likes of Moby,KT Tunstall,Muse and Snow Patrol, the then-unsigned troupe entered a Battle-of-the-Bands style competition in 2004.While first  place was taken by The Subways, their mellow folky liquid sunshine lit up the conch-like ears of one Michael Eavis (there are several), who invited them to play the Acoustic Stage on Saturday morning at Glastonbury.Luck chose to scuttle off again with some other lover at this point, the tart, causing the somewhat essential acoustic guitars to be accidentally left at home;fellow Leeds musicians Waking The Witch came to the rescue by lending their instruments instead, and Bodixa haven t looked back since. Apart from Philip, the drummer, who apparently looks back quite regularly on the cup of tea he shared with several naked women in a sauna tent. One lump or two, sir?

With listeners to their live appearances on the BBC s Raw Talent shows and at the Greenbelt festival adding further voices to the clamour for a new recording coming from downloaders, the band hooked up with Andy The Hawk Hawkins at Pravda studios in Headingley.Unlike the producers who have predictably tried to cattleprod them towards the mainstream,Bodixa have no beef with Hawkins approach. He instinctively seems to get what we re about, and evolves with us ,says Emily Norton, whose lilting vocals combine with those of lead Anna Elias to create the characteristic harmony-rich style epitomised on latest song Sing Your Bones . Enchanting lyrics and intertwining picked guitars complete a mood which could only be more hypnotic if they recruited Mr Tumnus and the Pied Piper of Hamlin in a flute section, and dangled a coin on a chain back and forth in front of your eyes as you listened. As a reviewer on their online messageboard notes (in between intriguing spam advertising replica Rolex watches, the intriguingly dubious legitimate work from home ,and surely ACME-born Response-O- Matic though disappointingly nothing about tins of processed meat),If Anna and Emily were sirens, not a single sailor would stay alive .

So what do the almost-famous five do when they re not busy luring innocent seamen towards their rock (that s seamen with an a -they re not that kind of act, before you go getting hot under the collar).Despite great media anticipation that their new wave is about to break into the big time at any moment (not to mention the fact that they ve scaled the dizzy heights of being recognised by some seven year olds in an Asda in Scotland -the litmus test of celebrity),their scores are not bringing in quite enough notes to live off just yet.

Dave has worked in a brandy snap factory, and appeared as an extra in a hospital in Hollyoaks , Where The Heart Is ,and as Chris s best mate in Shameless . Phil used to screw the tops on shampoo bottles, and is now a proud dad,via a slightly different procedure.Anna also became a mum recently suitably enough,on Mothers Day but is still trying to fend off the deluded bloke from Bolton who is under the misapprehension that he also is a band member,as well as the one from Dundee, who thinks he has a member she d like to see. Emily sells handmade bags in the Corn Exchange, and fantasises about opening a formal ballroom with proper gloves and hats and playing a candlelit gig at The Coach House Theatre.Dan, the bassist, was rendered immobile after too many chip suppers during their last bed-in recording session and is recuperating by listening to Yorkshire scene fellows Four Day Hombre and reading about the lyrics that took Leonard Cohen ten years to write.Little Mo,meanwhile, dreams of bones;that sing.

Lionel Richie and his Commadores once sang "Gonna be some sweet sounds coming down On the nightshift" Well I`m currently on the nightshift at the Hospital and the sound of 80 and 90 year old ladies snoring isnt that sweet! Hey all - just a quick message to let you know that we have lyrics up for all of the songs we have up at the moment.

If there are any particular requests for lyrics for songs that aren't on the site at the moment, just let us know.  We may even post some pictures of the lyrics as they were first written, crossings out and everything.

And, yes, the line in 'Small Hours' is "I'm a pillow with no mould".  Ask Anna - she's the boss.

You can tell you're back gigging when you find yourself in a service station looking at the range of Ginsters products and deciding which one is going to be your dinner this evening.  It's nice to be back, but it sure isn't good for your diet.

And for all you folks who aren't from the UK, Ginsters are a company that provide pastry goods filled with various fillings that all taste of onion to all the service stations in Britain.   Not quite haute cuisine.

For those of you who didn't get down to the Leeds or Manchester gigs, we do have some photos that we'll post just as soon as we've removed any where we don't look radiant.  Before you ask, me and Phil were relegated to 'Roadie' status for these gigs, so that's why there's only three people on stage.  I was busy tuning guitars off-stage - Dave insists on writing every new song in a different tuning just to keep us on our toes.

Big thanks have to go out at this point to Roddy Frame for having us both nights - give 'Surf' a listen at http://www.myspace.com/roddyframe

It's lovely.

There are many nice things about playing theatres - quiet audiences, those lights all round the dressing room mirrors, the lingering sense of panto in the air - but the nicest in this case was that because there's no smoking in the Lowry, Anna's 10-week old boy, Rhys, got to come to his first ever gig.  He managed to watch most of the set from the sides, though got a bit tired and had to go for a lie down before the end.  I know how he feels, actually.

Keep your eyes peeled for more gigs - there'll be some appearing soon.  Now I've got the taste for factory made pastry goods, I'm keen to get back on the road...

Just a quick to let everyone know that next Tuesday's gig at City Varieties is now sold out, so if you don't have a ticket, I'm afraid you might be missing out.  And before the guest list requests start coming in, I'm afraid we're maxed out on that - me and Phil are officially guest list members because we're not performing.

So sorry to everyone that had planned to come and now can't.  We'll post some photos of the gig - put them on a really fast slideshow and play us really loud and it's almost like you'll have been there.

On the plus side, the plans for the next release are underway.  Keep your eyes peeled for updates - there will be a competition to win some hand-made Emily Norton original artwork, so add us to your blog list and keep checking back.

I'll do my best to be as witty and erudite as usual in the meantime.

Er...Anyone see Big Brother last night?
