Like many born in the late 70s/early 80s, I
certainly remember hearing that song around this time of
year...
But when my father linked me this morning, after the nostalgia, it raised a question:
why does MLK Jr. have an American/Federal/National/Corporate "Holiday"?
What exactly did he do?
Maybe I don't know much about history but from all I've read:
-- true, in theory, MLK spoke of financial/social "freedom" and "equality" and "change" (much like Obama)
-- yet, in effect, he did NOTHING to better the overall situation for Africans
in America ("black people")
I realize I could be wrong, so just in case I am, comment back and give me one example
of how impoverished blacks have collectively made significant progress in the
areas of financial/social equality, due solely to the works of MLK... enlighten
me, please.
And while you are thinking hard to provide proof of the "great legacy" of "the King",
keep in mind that the
"freedom" to drink from a water fountain does NOTHING to solve REAL
social/racial problems nor does it magically solve the financial problems in
their communities. Remember, the abject poverty of the MAJORITY of
Africans in America is a persistent problem which has turned into a generational
curse much like a genetic disease. This disease called poverty, is the direct result of Africans
being enslaved for hundreds of years in
America, and the massive economic gap this created thereafter.
Then ask yourselves why there are no "Super-Mega-Ultra-Pop-Group" songs (nor "Holidays") to celebrate the
very real accomplishments of
other groups/leaders of the 1960s? Malcolm X, or the (original, pre-COINTELPRO) Black Panther Party? Who or
what made all these massive recording "stars" come together on King's behalf for
the song/video? Could they not think of anyone else who "fought" for
"freedom" to praise?!?!?! Why? Not even Harriet Tubman? At
least Outkast attempted to give shouts to Rosa...
..
Real talk: unlike King, the contributions of the Black Panther Party are well-documented (feeding, clothing,
housing citizens in poor black communities). Many grassroots organizations
were helping those in need with REAL PROGRESSIVE PROGRAMS that WORKED TO
REDUCE POVERTY and INCREASE EQUALITY (things like the Panthers' Free Breakfast
Program OR the Organization for Afro-American Unity
-- sadly, both of these effective groups/programs were ended after the murders of it's
respective founders:
Malcolm X, Fred Hampton, and others). Remember, these were run "Do It
Yourself", entirely out of pocket with no financial help from local, state, or
federal funding or corporate donations. Poor black people helping other
poor black people was the greatest threat to the "national security" of the
Federal government's corporate white america power structure.

Unlike King (and Obama), they weren't out giving "famous" speeches about
creating change and having dreams, instead they were
actually actively working towards that change by helping people survive the American Nightmare.
Is that why the history books ignore their accomplishments but praise King's
"moral victory" (if it can even be called that)?
We praise MLK because now black people can use the same restrooms as whites in an establishment
(even if they are
TOO POOR to afford to eat at said restaurant)? Oh YES! I see the
promised land now, FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST! .... (or
are we living in a fabricated fantasy world)?

Martin Luther King, Jr. is the only African who's "birthday" is a
corporate/federal/national holiday because of his accomplishments for CORPORATE/GOVERNMENT
WHITE AMERICA!
Know your history... MLK did virtually NOTHING significant for BLACK AFRICANS in
America. If anything, he enslaved blacks even more by lulling the majority
to sleep, keeping them docile so that the status quo of White Slavemasters could
flourish out in the open.
Like in the old days when Africans were first brought to this land,
the masters used a well-trained house negro to help brainwash the negroes to
suffer peacefully
(it worked for 400 years, then when you started to slowly awaken the King knocked you out
again, and now it's worked for 40+ more years ... but that stops here and now,
right?),
Please, awaken from your coma. If you peaceably suffer, you will never demand
the TRUE
financial freedom, economic equality, and social solidarity you
deserve as a FREE human being on planet earth
(TO THIS DAY, even after the abolition of slavery, these have NEVER been even
partially obtained by all races of people in this country).
So this year, on your day off from slavery for the King's "holiday", remember what you're
celebrating...
the fact that he taught you negroes how to sit-down, shut-up, and take
oppression with a smile and a song.
What exactly have we overcome?
From the looks of things, Obama will be another hypnotist with a holiday (and a
"holy war")...
...or the second coming of
the false messiYAH.

When it all goes down, don't blame
me... I voted for Cynthia.
...okay I didn't actually vote...
BUT if
I didn't know for a fact that this system is inherently corrupt, I would have voted for her.
At least SHE is trying to administer
REAL CHANGE, like attempting to help end the GENOCIDE in PALESTINE.
Just weeks ago, she was ATTACKED by
the Israeli navy in the process of delivering relief aid to dying Palestinians.

And what is OBAMA doing for those
brown people being murdered? NOTHING.
And what will he do for brown people in this country? NOTHING.
