So I was sitting around thinking about the history of art history and I decided to do a drawing of the Venus of Willendorf, a small stone votive piece from about 22,000 years ago. It is a fertility or earth goddess sculpture. It is the most famous of these found because it was the first discovered, there are many others and some older.

As I sat at My Uncles Funeral last week and we went through the Holy Eucharist I couldn't help but wonder what kind of religion promotes actual or implied cannibalism. What was JC thinking when he told em the bread and wine were his flesh and blood. And what was everyone else in the church thinking as they took the sacrament?
My Uncle served in WWII on a bomber as a flight officer and they were almost shot down, they flew back literally ten feet above the waves struggling to keep the torn up crate in the air but they made it. And lucky that cause he taught me how to fillet fish, he was a pro at it.

Who knows if this will turn out but the plan is ~70 drawings for a graphic novel ghost story. Even if I don't finish it's all good to draw another large series of small drawings. All for this series are 9x6. Here are a couple completed and on the pile. No text yet.

I drew a portrait of my nephews girlfriend yesterday. I met her at his graduation last spring but didn't catch her name as she wasn't really interested in the middle age uncles. But I thought she was pretty with an interesting face.

This little bugger landed in the middle of the newspaper I was reading and became engrossed in the article. I swatted him good.

The end of summer brings to a close warm weather for the year, we can look forward to cooling and then freezing. In august the cicadas emerge and begin their serenade, filling the sky with sound.
Here is a drawing of a cicada which had its song ended early by car. I scraped it up off the pavement.

The color wheel is something every artist studies at the very beginning of their training. We painted a very traditional one back in college as a way to show the students how to mix colors. I still have that around somewhere.
I decided to do another color wheel last week and just finished it. As the main subject in this color wheel I used the discarded nymph husks from cicadas as they emerge from the ground. They leave them clinging to trees as the cicada fly's off to serenade the sky.
