Okay, I'll admit it - I was a little disappointed when I discovered there wasn't going to be a Tough Love reunion show.  What's wrong with you, VH1?  The sweet stuff is in the reunion shows, babies!  It's the satisfying money shot of the jerkoff that is your programming.

In other news, the Cover-Up show for June is coming together.  Looks like we've just about finalized our lineup and we're starting to divvy (divy?  It's a weird word to spell.) up the songs amongst the multi-talented groups that are joining us for the big Queen cover show.

You know how I told you there was going to be a show on May 23 that isn't actually going to happen?  Well, there WILL be another show on Saturday May 23 - this time, I'm returning to the Greenwich Hotelin East Greenwich, Rhode Island (State motto:  "We didn't see nuthin illegal going on 'round here.") to feature at the open mic night there.  It's a fun venue with a lot of cool talents.  So come on out for some Saturday night fun in the big RI.

Hey folks,

Sorry for the radio silence these days.  Unfortunately, my lifestyle (I'm the real craigslist killer) hasn't been conducive to daily blogging these days.  Also, let's face it - there aren't too many of us on MySpace these days.  Even facebook seems to be getting twittered away.

ANYwho - there are still shows and band thingys going on that you just need to know about, don't you?  How about this - you SUBSCRIBE to me so that you know when I've written something.  It'll avoid that daily disappointment (which was my nickname in college).

Here's a little news to perk you up:  we're officially making a name change.  I feel the boys in my band deserve their own kudos, so we are now:

Brendan Boogie and the Best Intentions

That's a MySpace exclusive, people.  And you thought I forgot about you.

[EDIT:  That show I mentioned isn't actually happening.  Forget I even said anything.  These aren't the droids you're looking for.]

All right, folks.  The night that you've been anxiously waiting for is upon us:  the debut of "The Fashion Show" starring Isaac Mizrahi on Bravo!  Because that's what Bravo needs - another show about fashion.

Oh, and Scamper's playing our reunion show TOMORROW NIGHT at the Middle East Downstairs.  It's Harris' last show, so a sell out is definitely a possibility.  Be sure to get there early and get there often enough to buy shit from Harris and possibly buy me drinks.

I'm doing everything humanly possible to get the frog in my throat out by tomorrow night:  sleeping 12 hour nights, injecting Vitamin C directly into my jugular, not making out with Nate "The Human Germ" Rogers anymore...  there is no end to the sacrifices I will make for your entertainment.

We're really excited.  We had our last Scamper rehearsal last night and everything went swimmingly with the possible exception of my bass amp crapping the bed.  It's ok - they didn't plug in Sid Vicious either.  And by Sid Vicious, I mean this guy:

Yup.  That's the Sid Vicious to whom I am inexplicably referring.

See you all tomorrow night for SCAMPAAAAAAH!

Check out the interview with myself, Nate, and Mike from Harris over at Boston Band Crush:

That's more than enough reading for you today.

In the spirit of yet more experimentation, I've decided to spend the next month (starting tomorrow) as a diehard Kansas City Royals fan.  Just as I successfully attempted to live life as a vegetarian for a month, I will deny myself the meaty joys of the AL East and attempt see life through the small market lens of Royal Nation.

These experiments are all about testing one's perspective and stripping away things that seem like essential parts of my identity.  I was born a meat-eating Red Sox fan.  What happens when I throw myself whole-heartedly into something else?  Do I become that something else, even if just for a little while?  It's all about questioning my programming.  I even have a few cohorts to do it with me this time.  Go Royals!

But rest assured I will certainly be joining my other cohorts in Scamper this Saturday night at the Middle East Downstairs.  Sadly, we'll be saying goodbye to Harris (the Kansas City Royals of the Boston music scene), but we'll be doing it in style.  Please get your tix and come out to bid adieu to Boston's best band made up of some of its finest human beings.

I didn't know until just this minute that there's an action movie starring Dennis Rodman and Dane Cook.  Were you aware of this?  It's on TV, like, right now.  Rodman mumbling, Cook mugging - it's like some sort of surreal work of art.  I highly recommend the experience of watching it.

Speaking of surreal, it's going to be like February 2, 2008 all over again when Scamper hits the stage at the Middle East to support our boys Harris in their last show.  We're a little older, a little wiser, and a whole lot rockier when we bring the noise a week from tomorrow (That's Saturday April 18, for those of you playing the home version of the game).

Scamper reunion, Brendan Boogie at Precinct on April 24, the BCN Rumble - it's a great time to be a Boston music fan, huh?

Ahhhh... the excitement of April.  Cripes, am I happy that March is over.  Maybe it's the craptastic weather, self-inflicted vegetarianism, and general mood-sucking antibliss of our third month, but I just didn't know if I was going to make it through March as a sane person.  Well, a relatively sane person.

But look at what April has brought us already.  The beginning of baseball season.  A beautiful sunny day like today.  Meat, meat, and more meat.  And of course, the Scamper reunion!

It's happening 9 days from today on April 18 at the Middle East Downstairs.  We're reuniting for our brother band Harris' final show.  I'm planning on making fun of them viciously from the stage.  Like, I'm going to get really mean about it.  And when everyone waits for the obligatory "I was just kidding I really love them" closing, it's not going to come.  I'm going to leave the 595 people in that venue with the sourest of tastes in their mouths.  It's going to be GREAT!

I hear you asking, "But what about Brendan Boogie shows?  Shouldn't you be alienating audience members in other venues as well?"  You know what?  You're right!  I'll tell you what I'll do - I'll play Precinct in Union Square, Somerville (formerly known as Toast) on Friday April 24 and bring the anti-love there as well.  What say you?

Boo on rain for ruining my "Take Opening Day Off From Work" tradition.  No beer and no baseball makes Brendan something something.

Other than the rainout, I did have a pretty eventful weekend.  Baby Brother Boogie and I went down to my cousin's shooting range to fire off a few rounds.  Now, I had never actually fired a gun before, so I wasn't sure if I'd even be comfortable with the idea.  But as the Thai gentlemen behind the 7-11 dumpster learn every Friday night, I'm always up for new experiences.

My cousin has an absurd arsenal of weaponry.  You know, for when the shit goes down.  Knowing I was a noob, he started me off with some smaller guns.  A glock, a .38 special, a .45.  One of the coolest things was shooting my great uncle's M1 World War 2 rifle which had been sitting in my great aunt's closet for about 45 years.
When I was getting a little more comfortable, my cousin pulled this thing out:

The Smith and Wesson 50 caliber Magnum.  This thing could take down a bear.  I asked my cousin what the hell was the practical purpose of owning such a ridiculous piece of weaponry.  He shrugged and said, "Burglars?"

After firing this Dirty Harry shit, I was officially a gun person.  I was squeezing off rounds and rounds with pistols, rifles, and pump action shotguns.  The once meek rock and roller transformed into an adrenaline-fueled jackbooted thug.

So when you come to the Scamper reunion show on April 18 at the Middle East Downstairs, don't fuck with me.  I'm locked and loaded.

What I learned from being a vegetarian for a month:

-  Fried tofu goes well in pad thai.  And not all that much else.

-  Resisting the urge to eat meat wasn't that big of a sacrifice unless I was drunk on an empty stomach after performing at a Click Five show and my girlfriend ordered cheeseburger sliders.  In that moment, I'm pretty sure I would have stabbed, dressed, and consumed an entire raw buffalo in about 12 minutes.

-  I eat a lot of vegetables normally.  So the switch was relatively easy.

-  The switch back was even easier.  I ate a bacon cheeseburger at Wild Willy's in Watertown last night and it was delicious.  An almost religious experience.

-  Now, I'm wondering "What meat will I eat today?  Pork?  Chicken?  Perhaps the most dangerous game of all... hippie?

-  Scamper reunion April 18 at the Middle East Downstairs.

That one had nothing to do with the vegetarianism.  I just thought I'd start pimping now.

Thanks to the Click Five for having us there to finish out their residency at the Lizard Lounge this weekend.  We had a complete blast and I even jumped up on stage with the fellas for a little Elvis Costello.  Despite the fact that I completely ripped an audience member a new asshole for reading in the front row, I feel like the evening was a success of good will and love for one's brothers and sisters.  Okay, so I'm the asshole.

At least there are other assholes in the world, such as our friends in Harris.  They spent much of their precious interview time on WBCN making fun of me and my Scamper brethren for crying during our last show.  I'm so glad they're breaking up.  On April 18 at the Middle East Downstairs, I will dance on their graves.

In other news, today is my last day as a vegetarian.  It's been an interesting experience.  I was surprised to find that my diet didn't have to change all that much - just a little tofu instead of grilled chicken here and there.  But the veggie life is not for me.  I can't WAIT for a cheeseburger tomorrow.
