We don't even know where to start this month, there's so much good stuff going on. Let's kick things off with a link to http://www.thedeathofbunny..munro.com/
- this is the official site for The Death of Bunny Munro by Nick Cave.
You can keep updated on all Bunny news and events by signing up to the
site. This month also sees the publication of two great new books: This
is How by M. J. Hyland, who was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize
for her previous novel, Carry Me Down. The reviews are starting to come
in, the Metro loved it. http://www.metro.co.uk/met..rolife/books/article.html?..MJ_Hylands_prose_is_in_for.._the_kill&in_article_id=69..1235&in_page_id=28The
Third Man Factor by John Geiger, a Canadian author who's the authority
on what happens when you're staring death in the face. How did the last
man to leave the Twin Towers on 9/11 make it out alive? He thinks it
was divine intervention. Recent neurological research has other ideas.
Check out the extract on John's website: http://www.thirdmanfactor...com/We've
only a month to go before our Life of Pi global readalong starts, and
you can get the new edition in the shops this month if you'd like to
join in and haven't read this Booker prizewinner before. If it's an old
favourite or you've had a copy sitting on the shelves forever, August
is a great time to start - hundreds of people have already signed up to
share the experience of reading Life of Pi this summer! http://www.lifeofpi.co.uk/June
was the month of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and with it
came the premiere of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee by Rebecca Miller.
We're proud to say that the film art was inspired by our cover design!
We're also publishing Personal Velocity, Rebecca's collection of short
stories, in July. More paperbacks out this month: Indian
Takeaway by Hardeep Singh Kohli - The story of his search for identity.
Is he Scottish, Glaswegian, Sikh, Indian? Does he ever manage to figure
it out? Trick Baby by Iceberg Slim - We're reissuing this fiction classic with an introduction by Ice T. The
Fire Gospel by Michel Faber - The author of The Crimson Petal and the
White takes aim at the cult of religious thrillers a la Dan Brown in
his retelling of the Prometheus myth for our Myths series. Enjoy!

February 2, 2009 - Monday

We hope January went well for you. Here at Canongate 2009 saw us off to a great start with Barack Obama's inauguration meaning that Dreams From My Father, The Audacity of Hope and Change We Can Believe In still dominate the bestseller lists. We've also been enjoying the success of our Richard & Judy title The Gargoyle - featured on the show this week. And February has plenty of other treats in store too: * Kate Grenville is on tour in the UK and will be at the Southbank Centre this week. She's on no less than four national book club discussions while she's here. There's still time to get tickets to the Southbank Centre event. * Neuroscience is the theme of The Decisive Moment: How the Brain Makes Up Its Mind. We already know that it's going to be Book of the Week on BBC Radio 4, and we're told that the button on the cover is completely irresistible. Check it out for yourself in the bookstores and let us know if you agree! * We've only got a month to go before our competition for signed copies of The Boat closes! Read the rules and join in - Nam Le will select the winning entries. Coming up next month: * Anne Donovan heads online for a tour; * We publish an magical debut set in Wales, The Earth Hums in B Flat by Mari Strachan; * Find out what it means to be a young Muslim in the 21st century when Stranger to History is published.

This month we’re starting 2009 as we mean to go on with an abundance of events and treats for you, both on and offline. Haveyou been experiencing the back-to-work-blues this week? Well, we’resorry to say that things are only going to get worse. January 19th 2009is officially set to be the most depressing day of the year – it’ll beeven longer since you got that December pay packet, it’ll probably beeven colder than it is today and you’ll have forgotten you even had aChristmas holiday… Add to this the extra 2009 misery of the creditcrunch and the threat that your gas supplies are about to be turned offand really, it’s just about the limit. Step in LaurenceShorter and his story of how he changed his mindset from tearful tocheerful. The Optimist is the best way to banish the January blues andwith a giveaway scheduled on Waterstones.com on January 19th and a freee-book giveaway through The Book Depository, there is no excuse not to get reading. Book your place at the launch event visiting the School of Life and in the meantime join our Facebook group or add your photos to The Optimist group pool on Flickr, showing your commitment to the fight against pessimisim. January also kicks off tours for two fine Canongate authors: Niccolo Ammaniti - author of I'm Not Scared, Steal You Away and The Crossroads * 13 January 2009: The Crossroads launch event at the Italian Cultural Institute. * 14 January 2009: Log into the World Literature Forum to chat with Niccolo Ammaniti in his first online 'live' Q&A. *Also look out for radio interviews and reviews on the BBC World Service(The Strand), BBC Radio 4 (Open Book) and BBC Radio Five Live (SimonMayo) this month. Chris Killen - author of debut novel The Bird Room * 15 January 2009: Launch of The Bird Room competition to win signed copies, details and entry over at Day of Moustaches. * 27 January 2009: The Bird Room launch event at no point in not being friends, the monthly reading night in Manchester. * 29 January 2009: Reading at Book Slam, the hottest literary nightclub in London. * 31 January 2009: Interview in Second Life on the popular Meet an Author programme. * 5-19 February 2009: Online book group discussion on Bookgeeks. * Other online press in the works include interviews with The Beat, bookmunch, Dogmatika and 3:AM Magazine and many more. Andfinally here in Scotland we’re practising our poetry, digging out ourceilidh gear and psyching ourselves up for a mammoth haggis feast incelebration of our national poet’s 250th birthday later this month. Butthe fun isn’t restricted to north of the border - Andrew O..'Hagan..'sselection of poems in A Night Out with Robert Burns is the perfect wayto enjoy Burn’s poetry wherever you are and we’re giving away loadsacopies in a big BookCrossing wild release on Burns Night, 25th January.Look out for copies available for free all over the UK!
