As we draw closer to the closing of one year, Carbon is pleased to announce a few projects in the coming year.

First up, Carbon will be working with Robert Johnson and the Corazon Music Festival to present The Other Woman: A Tribute to Nina Simone on February 14, 2009. Details will follow in the next few weeks.

Then, Carbon has been lucky enough to have been selected to produced not one but TWO shows for the 2009 Orlando Fringe Festival.

The first show will be a social experiment called "The Amazing Adventures of Normal People in 3D" and will be presented in the Green Venue @ the festival.

The second show will be produced and performed by myself (Jeremy) in the Blue Venue. It is a cabaret-by-request called "Under The Covers." We'll be sending out info for this show very shortly as it requires audience participation.

Stayed tuned for more info about these shows as well as perhaps a couple other collaborations in the near future!

Thanks to everyone who came out to play "Parlour Games!"

Parlour Games - Carbon Productions

By Mary Frances Emmons
SENTINEL ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT EDITOR

Self-help is a genre endlessly ripe for parody, apparently –- witness Dr. Serenity Hawkfire's "workshop" in this very venue. Kathryn Davis is Vivian Penmark, an "accredited life coach and classically trained housewife" who is here to instruct us in her "Parlour Game Life System."

The show begins with cookies and punch, for us, her dear audience -– now that's different. "Please enjoy them on the stage," Penmark's lovely assistant Miss Nancy asks. (Or was it Miss Fancy? Whatever.) Also different! (Good cookies too -- remember this part if you go. Ahem.)

The very pretty Penmark emerges tastefully attired and perfectly coiffed -– at Fringe that's your clue she's most likely unhinged, and indeed Viv has an, um, unusual perspective on her major topics: house, husband, children, beauty and etiquette. "How poisonous and how wonderful!" she exclaims over one spring-cleaning agent, before introducing us to her favorite all-purpose cleanser: the vodka spritz! "Let's say you have a little blood on your tank top," she says, exposing a garment that looks like a prop for Halloween Horror Nights. She scrubs away with another recommended tonic, hydrogen peroxide. "Give it time" she says through gritted yet perfect teeth, as the "blood" shows no sign of lifting.

Penmark takes us through her other areas of expertise with the help of audience members, who play games like "untie the husband" and "who can diaper the fake baby the fastest." Just beware: No matter what she offers you, don't drink the Windex.

Many thanks to all of you who came out to support "Heart of Coal." Considering how many shows there were at Fringe and this was Carbon's first year producing a show at the festival, I am very happy with the results. We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from so many artists, activists, friends, and complete strangers. Thank you all for being so receptive to the message. Thank you for taking a risk.

I also want to thank the cast, crew and production team of "Heart of Coal." You all made the show a true success. Thank you for helping Sandra and me tell the story. We couldn't have done this without you.

Last, but certainly not least, I want to thank my family.
Dad, Mom & Brandon: Thank you for being there through everything. I can't express how much your support means to me.

Love,
Jeremy
