Happy new year! Hope yours is starting off wonderfully. The end of 2008 had some exciting developments I wanted to share, and there's a lot coming up in 2009 with shows and a new album.. so I wanted to update.

The biggest news is I got signed to a label who will be releasing my new album, coming out this spring. I can't talk about all the details yet, but there's going to be a real push of support on this record, and the group of people working on it are really excellent folks, so I am SO so excited about it. I'm finishing up the writing and recording in the coming month, and it'll be out very soon!

Got some fun shows throughout the winter coming up too: this Saturday I'm playing in Hazlet New Jersey with my friends Amanda Duncan and Joanna Burns. Later in January I'm heading to California for a show at the Hotel Cafe in LA on the 23rd, and a San Diego show at Lestat's the 24th. I'm playing The House of Blues in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay on January 27th, opening for The Andy Walo Trio, which is going to be really fun, so tell your Vegas friends! (if you can get Wayne Newton to come, you WIN)

I'm heading to McLean, Virginia (where I grew up!) to play a show at Alden Theatre on February 20th. Advanced tickets are available at the Alden Theatre website (http://www.mcleancenter.org/alden/guestartist.asp), and we're hoping this will sell out, so pick them up now if you are interested!

More info on tour dates throughout the south and midwest for March coming soon.

Finally, We are starting up a street team on Fancorps.com (http://chrisayer.fancorps.com). If you sign up to help spread the word about the new CD and upcoming shows, you will get access to all kinds of recordings, giveaways and contests exclusive to members. We're just getting started, and I'd love to have you join in!

There is so much that has happened in 2008, and so much about to happen in 2009 that I am thankful for, and more than anything I feel very lucky to be able to do this music making thing. Thank you for telling your friends, coming out to shows, burning songs for folks, and being a friend in this.

see you soon,
Chris

Hey all,

had a blast at the November shows in NY, thanks for coming out and supporting!

Wanted to share some videos from the Songwriting Finals for the NY Songwriters Circle a couple weeks back... here's me playing "Awake", and also favorite moment of the event when Marc Cohn played "Walking In Memphis"... it was one of my favorite songs growing up, and was pretty amazing and inspiring to see live, and to hear him talk about the songwriting process, and how he literally hopped to plane to Memphis in search of inspiration. Check it out!

my song:

Marc Cohn, Walking In Memphis:

I didn't win the competition, but had a blast being involved, and was pretty honored to be in the company of these other songwriters. Check out the NY Songwriters Circle's YouTube channel for videos of all the performances...

hope all's well, more on the CD release coming soon... happy thanksgiving to you and yours, whether you're rocking the Tofurkey, or going out to pick your own bird, Sarah Palin style!

see ya

Just got SUCH good news that my song "Awake" is one of the final 12 in the NY Songwriters Circle Songwriting Contest this year! It was definitely a long shot, and it'll be a huge honor to get to be a part of the live finale November 5th and 6th at the Bitter End in NYC. Marc Cohn and Dave Barnes will be playing too on the 6th. I think the tickets go quickly, so if you're interested, check out the songwriter's circle website for more info:

Just found out 5 minutes ago, so more details to come.. but I wanted to share the news, while it was brand new!

hope all's wonderful on your side,

chris

HOORAY!

I'm back in LA. i've had SUCH a good time running around the southwest this past week. It's been one of those eye-opening experiences, where the people I've met, and the places I've found myself have all been much-needed reminders that this is the life for me.

And suddenly the desert highway turns into downtown LA, and everything changes. The people I get to see here are certainly the highlight. But the silly old business.. not so much. I know that the music business is based here, and a lot of the artists and bands that I admire have grown out of the LA music world. So i'm doing my best to weather the crazy of the biz, and get my CD heard, so that i can get the help i need to get it out there the best way possible, and keep doing what I love. It's daunting, but this past week on the road was the best fuel I could ask for. thank you for that. even if you weren't there, cuz you're reading this now, and it's somewhat novel-like, which means you must be pretty nice, and a friend (when you read my blog, you are giving me a high-five with your mind, fyi).

I'll let you know what all develops, and I"ll be putting a second song off of the new CD up here very soon. For now I'm on a two-pronged mission: smell the ocean, and buy some socks. It works best for me when I can mix the idealism with a little practicality here and there. just a little though.

I'm also playing in LA tomorrow night, if you are in the nearby region, and want to come out, it sure would bring on the happy for me, and hopefully for you also. I'm playing at Room 5 Lounge, starting around 9pm I think... I'm really feeling connected to the songs I'm playing live these days, and would love to share it with anyone. And if you request a song that I have never written (and especially if I've had a beer or two) I will almost definitely improvise it! Which could either be awesome or awful. but worth doing, either way, I think.

bye for now! don't forget to feed the proverbial cat,

Chris

And Goat-wise, I guess there might be more Shenanigans than Goats. But i'm not willing to say there will be no Goats at all. Never say never! Especially to Goats.

hey guys,

i've been hiding away for a few months, getting the new album written and recorded, and it looks like I'll have some songs ready to put up here in the next few weeks. Can't wait for you to hear the songs! Rather than trying to describe them (that never works), here's a picture of me and the band working in the studio in Nashville a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for being patient, I've missed being out playing, but I really think this album will make the next round of shows and musical experiences that much better. Hope you agree!

Happy summer,

Chris

1: hi!

2: I'm leaving today for 7 weeks of shows, and wanted to drop a note with the informacion.

It starts off tomorrow night in Lexington, SC with good friend John Callaway and Hannah Miller, at the Watershed. From there I'll be winding my way all over the place, through the end of April. We are still sorting out a bunch of additions to the schedule throughout, with a possible show in Nashville, something in Boston at some point, and a trip through the Washington DC area very soon. Check back on my main myspace page for the most up-to-date tour list.

3: I am filling the in between time with whatever I can to keep playing as much as possible, and this is where you come in, I do hope.

If you are interested in throwing a party or house concert and having me play, now is the time! Basically if you'd be interested in having me come through to play, and can help with a little bit of planning or coordinating the thing, it would be a lot of fun I bet. And seems like the perfect thing to be doing, while I'm in 'wannabe beatnik wandering America in my invincible sedan' mode. Email me at chris@chrisayer.net and let me know! Even if it's just the seedling of an inkling of a idea. I'm all for it.

4: Thanks for everyone who came out to the UK shows! Great times on the road with John Siddle and company (that's you, Ste), hope to see you all again next time. Thanks for making the tour a great one, and only making fun of my accent a medium amount.

Okay, I don't know why I numbered this. Hrmm.

See you out there!
