This is my last MySpace blog post. I'm tired of the errors and spam this site is famous for. I'm not done with MySpace as a site, but I'm no longer posting my pictures here. Instead you'll have to visit my website www.clearasdirt.com to see my work.

Don't fret, I think you'll like what you see over at my website. I've redesigned and installed some pretty slick blogging and gallery software that will make it easy for you to view and comment on my work. I hope you'll find it easy to navigate and I do encourage you to visit often and comment. That is my one concern about no longer posting my pics here; that I'll lose a big audience. But I'm confident once you visit my website, you'll be quite happy with it.

One cool thing you'll notice is the RSS feed. For those unfamiliar with RSS, it's a newsfeed that'll keep you up to date and notify you when I post something new.

so here's one last pic and a teaser for what I just posted this morning...

Wow... I'm redesigning www.clearasdirt.com again becuase wow, it takes too effin long to upload stuff. I found a pretty good solution, and it's in keeping with the simple is better philosophy for visuals. Anyway, it's summer, so I'll get to it when I get to it.

So, went to Assinaboine Park yesterday for a few musical treats before the skies opened up and anyone not named Noah drowned. Caught George and the Class of 84, The Nods, and Floor Thirteen and also snapped several candid moments around the park.

The Collective sported a bill Friday night of several kickass bands I hadn't seen in a while, so naturally I had to clear the calendar and show for this devine event.

Coda
Broken Army
Perdition
Nocturnal Divinity

I wanted to test my 70-200 Sigma EX in low light, so what better place than the Park Theatre? That place is reknown among photographers as crapville for stage lighting unless the promoters fork in the extra dough for rental lights. Even with a wide open aperture, it seemed dark, so rather than bitch about it, I went with the flow and went for a gritty feel... Pumping the camera up to iso3200, these pictures are sweet noise.

The Nods are all awesome guys, and they really keep the conversation and atmosphere going... I prefer the candid sort of shot, so with these guys it's super easy. Just set them up in some location, and watch their character take over.
The Nods are welcome in most venues in the city and are loved by all. Their brit-pop with a hard blues edge sound gets lots of airtime on Freq107 with several songs on the heavy rotation... Don't know about power 97... I don't listen to 97 much, but the Nods were a Class of 2006 band.
Have a listen... http://www.myspace.com/thenods

There was a fella who passed by during the last few shots in the exchange who seemed a bit... off. He knew who they were right away and was 'in awe' in a sort of reminiscent sort of way, saying he was in a band once years ago. He went on to say it's great they're going through all this trying to make it, but they never will... Man, why can't ****heads keep their unfulfilled lives to themselves? Well I must say, The Nods have a lot going for them and a lot of youthful energy on their side, so all I can say is, I hope they can make a good go of it.
P.S...
Is is it just me or is this slide show style incredibly annoying?

The Winnipeg band, Tin Foil Phoenix, has a new percussionist, whether permanent or not, I don't know. But they did need some new promotional material to reflect this fact. It wasn't all that easy given other circumstances, so for what it's worth, this photoshoot was about as impromptu as a promo shoot gets. In other words... One of the guitar players came in from out of town for the weekend to play a couple gigs at Shannons... I had about an hour to play with after sun down, after working a 12 hour shift, to shoot them before they went on stage. Tonnes of photos were taken around the block, but as they say, 'They only need one."

I should be getting the final piece of my lens puzzle collection within a couple weeks. It pretty much depends on our very dependable and quick Canada Postal Service. That peice is a 70-200mm 2.8 Sigma EX, bring my EX zoom coverage from 10mm to 200mm, mostly at f/2.8, with a 16mm 2.8 fisheye, and of course the thrifty 50 1.8 for low light delights. Also, I picked up an EF 500 DG Super Sigma flash unit too, so now I'm pretty much done photography equipment shopping for a very long time... Well, I could use a 2X extender, a 17" laptop with dual core and 2gb of ram, and a strobe light or two... But all that can wait I'm sure.

Not another band shoot, but very metal nonetheless. Winnipeg offers tonnes of scenery and interesting sites that the locals often forget about, or don't even know about for that matter. I learned of this place through a local online photographer's community so naturally, I had to do some exploring... I lost a bike for exploring, but that's another story. If you happen to see a black/red/silver KHS mountain bike zipping around, GIVE IT THE FUCK BACK!

Ahem, anyway, some shots for your viewing pleasure. These pics and many more will be viewable on my website within a couple days. I didn't expect to get so many shots out of that place, but I'll be back as there's lots more to be had.

I've decided there is no better band out there at making noise sound fantastic. I mean, the kind of noise that normally makes you go, "wtf is this? do they know what they're doing?" Yeah, that kind of noise. But HCE turns it into sweet magical ear drum bliss. This noisy image compilation is my tribute to the Noise that is HCE.

Guess what else I shot recently? Tin Foil Phoenix promo shots. I'll post those at some point sooner than later. They're all done and all that, but I figure the band has the right to be the first viewers. The rest of ya'll will just have to wait. All I can say is, they're pretty cool for a fairly rushed shoot.

There are 30 pics in this flash movie from my Winnipeg to Vancouver road trip. There are of course LOTS more. There are about 40 more on my website right now if you go to the gallery menu. Go to the Places and Things gallery, there you'll see Vancouver Trip highlighted in RED for now. If you want to see more, you'll just have to come over and sit patiently through a slide show... With tea and biscuits.

Since sweet F*** all (wtf, I'm censored?) happens on Good Friday, Indy Nosebone's tradition is to make a gooder Thursday at the Zoo. Since I havent seen these guys since the last gooder Thursday, I had a craving for that funky heavy sound INB is famous for.

The Vancouver pics will be along shortly... I just have to figure out which to show, in what order, how many... All that crap. So bear with me.
