This past week, we have witnessed the sure signs of the new counter-culture revolution emerging in our humble city. Herald the rising of the new generation of the true hip-hop nation...seen through the heart and soul of the Ha'Stylez Krew...as bboys gathered from all over the region and fresh spray paint adorned the walls with live graffiti. Take notice of the wall-to-wall energy created by NeedleGruv as they brought pure funky breaks from the underground basements, right into your ears. And an entire room bounced with an energy I haven't felt in almost a decade, as one of the world's premiere deejays came to town surrounded by a cast of Dance Robots Dance.
The underground lives...
The underground lives...
I recently had the opportunity to pick up some jazz guitar techniques from the great Danny Vaughn, who preached that music always runs in cycles...becoming incredibly simplistic and easily swallowed by the masses before doing a complete one-eighty and growing in increased complexity and intellect. This cycle is ever present in the clubs and dance floors of this city. And as we begin to move from the commercial fluff that has dominated this city's dance floors for years and towards new positive energy, I am confident when I claim that the counter-culture revolution has begun. And these events are only the first few small steps in a great new journey in our city's music culture. Maybe this time we will get it right...
The underground lives...

Every once and a while, there are those people who surprise you. I mean, there are those who have that certain creative ability that just awes you. And then you come to expect that talent in a certain way...a certain media...a certain flavor. Then, given a few years of absence and they return with something that just floors you!
Arkangel has been producing and creating dance floor breaks for long enough to have become one of the most popular downloads on BeatPort.com. His brand of vocal stabs and melodic synth lines create movements that can only be described as uplifting and energizing!
Now, his 2009 all-new album is about to hit the streets! Arkangel's "Synergy" is a collection of original funky breakbeat scores with epic strings and pads, enhanced with vocal stabs and searing synthesized piano leads. This one is for the dance floor!
Martini Lounge is proud to host the "Synergy" album release party! Check out a special live deejay performance from this Kingdom Underground recording artist!

Sometimes you really have to give in order to receive.
On June 6th, a select group of OKC's most talented will take stage for a fundraising event to keep music going in our schools. The idea began as BT and the brethren of broke musicians whom work at Guitar Center were approached by the Fender Music Foundation to build a stage in the middle of our parking lot, rig up 100,000 watts of JBL sound, and gather the best bands we could find...all in an effort to support the mantra: "Give. Music. Life."
Less than a month into the project and others became eager to join our cause. Music4Life Studios offered an EP recording session for the band to who can bring the most donation dollars, and naturally demos from dozens of bands came flooding through the doors. Then our neighbors at Best Buy and Home Depot rallied to provide us with the materials we needed to put together a concert. Star Productions and Little River Music Valley offered technical support and gear as we began to realize how incredibly large this event had become, and always down to ride for a great cause, B.A.C.A. Nation gave the nod.
And now, we gather together...from so many different musical backgrounds...on one stage...upon the commencement of one of the greatest events I have ever had the honor to play a humble role in. Keep music in our schools! Let the youth of our nation create! Let them play! Let them dance! Let their voices sing! Let the revolution begin!!!
This is a FREE concert! Donate $10 or more and receive a 10% discount off of any* item from Guitar Center! There will be contests and giveaways from Best Buy and Guitar Center!

Soon, one of this party crew's own will be parting from this city. And no, he is not moving to Dallas like everyone else from Oklahoma City...he decided that moving out of the state just isn't far enough...so our friend and personal pornographic paparazzi, Ti is getting deported to Vietnam. And by request from our honored guest, we have arranged an orgy for Ti!
At first, I wasn't sure how to take this request. But, upon remembering all the wonderfully insane parties this family has hosted...why can't we host an orgy? I mean...club sluts need love too!
DJ D.L. has crafted a selection from his original funk soul...where all good porn music comes from. And for myself, all I can say is that I once tried to make love to a song at 135 beats per minute...it didn't work out so well. Regardless of which...my drunk ass will be playing anyways
Clothing is optional. Please be legal.

Nights upon endless nights I have waited for the sun to rise before I relented. Those evoking chords...pushing through at every moment I'm awake...just won't leave me alone. And the sweet melody playing over and over and over again in my head...just won't leave me alone. I pretend like I don't hear them...as I make my way through the day...worried that everyone around might actually realize that I am just a little crazy. My conversations are clouded with incessant intoxicated humming hidden behind my eyes. As I walk, the rhythm of my feet...I hear the syncopated patting against the concrete. I close my eyes to enjoy the dark solitude of thought...but even here, it's not so quiet. Some call it insanity...others say its creativity...I call it my reality.
It is that warmth in the back of my brain...I can feel it heating up from underneath my skull until it begins to burn. Engulfing with voracious flames all the rational thoughts in the front of my mind. At first instinct, I want to hold on to thought...onto what my eyes see as real...but I know...it's time to let go. And so I do...
Allowing the hidden voices...filed away in the lost memories and emotions I've stored so deep beneath the recesses of my known being...my waking existence I think I see where I'm at...I think I should know what I am doing...but, once I give into the temptations of my sub-conscience...I trust my instincts to survive yet another round of voices.
Then the strings begin slowly staggering in...softly...creeping...inhaling deeply...holding that emotion almost unbearably before exhaling out slowly. My fingertips brush a light touch against that ivory and suddenly that incessant melody comes to life completely on its own...springing up without restrain and without reservation...bearing down on me with all its breath. The bass drops in...moving the earth...pushing from beneath my chest to follow the strumming of my guitar. I try to hold the voices back as I place my palm on the strings. But, some voices must be heard...and my hands begin to move for me...releasing only the sounds the six-string wants to sing. I can feel the sweeping synth lines...emitting it's own life...traveling from my fingers...through my arms...and then holding me warmly around my shoulders as the rush comes...then striking me sharply and swiftly through the center of my brain. Like lightning electrifying my mind...I hear these voices cutting through thoughts.
They speak to me. Everyday they sing. Every moment of my waking existence...I can hear them. And when I sleep...these voices join in choir and play a symphony of lost emotions with an orchestra of forgotten memories. So when I wake...I know some voices burn with an enraged desire only to be heard. I must let them speak...
And this is what they said: "Alone She Cries" - Myspace Page Link

Since his arrival from Washington DC to this city, Saul V has done an incredible job of sharing his love for house music. By his hand, he had crafted Smooth Nights...weekly taking over spots like Venu and Wreck Room. Responsible for bringing the import mega-show to OKC, Tunerfest was one of his great creations. And most recently, Saul V has created a centralized forum for this state's burgeoning underground music scene: OKDanceMusic.com!
This Saturday, we are proud to present the soul of a revolutionary, Saul V on the decks at Martini Lounge!

I recently came across great links while posting bulletins on OKDanceMusic.com...our new center for the electronic underground. Here you will find the discussion from some of the original heads of the scene...as well as the new electronic community expanding from Tulsa to Dallas. It's been a great source of insight as we collectively build the new underground...
Anyways, to my original i*bas heads...you can find pictures and flyers from the now defunct i*bas website. Want to reminisce? Want to check out the events that shaped our city's music industry? Perhaps you don't remember what you looked like ten years ago? Or maybe you want to check out the fashion trends of the at the turn of the millennia? You can find all these answers here...
Picture Gallery I couldn't put the real link because it looked like spam. But, this links you to the forum and you can click on the thing highlighted in orange.
Flyer Gallery
As such is these moments that we remember. May we learn from the past to succeed in the future! What have I learned from these old images? Little John looks exactly the same...I should not dye my hair blue, but I think that platinum blonde worked out well...people actually used to check out the deejay playing...and I really miss seeing a mass of dancing glow sticks!
It's time to make new memories and inspire a new generation!
