Category: Parties and Nightlife

Hey!

Just wanted to take a minute to let everyone know that CN Starz* will be out and about, playing tunes and having a good time.  We want everyone attending to have a great time also, so don't miss out!  Here's what's going on...

Tomorrow night we are booked for a private party in Sebastian.  Sorry, invite only!

Next week is a different story.  On November 1st, we have 2 events going on.

The Club At Vero: This is a women's networking event and will be held from 10 am to 2pm.  We will be giving away one three hour karaoke event, so if you ever wanted a DJ for a party, be sure to come in to the Club and get signed up!

Later on that same night, we will be DJ'ing at Sharkeys Pub, 917 Sebastian Blvd. in Sebastian for their Country Night; aka Boots N Bikinis.  Nope, don't expect to see me in one!  I'm afraid I'd scare our audience away!

Now, there won't be any karaoke at this event.  This is music only, so be prepared to do some serious line dancing, hootin' and a hollerin'.  Bring in your requests too, and I'll do my best to play it for you.  I  hope to see everyone there!

Have a great day, and come on out next Saturday!

I know some of you were actually wondering if I could do it.  Can the girl actually sing?  Well, if you saw my last 2 blogs, you probably already know the truth.  I'm no Celine Dion.  Even if I have the nose.

Now, what I need for you to do, is (alright, seriously now!) tell me what you think?  Should I do a few more or should I stop while I'm ahead?  There are an awful lot of songs on the MySpace Billboard to try.  LOL

OK, you know I'm a ham.  So, go, listen.  Make fun if you want.  Your comments, faves, ratings and the like will give me an idea if I should keep playing or just make it private and "do it to myself"...  I mean FOR myself...  (Freud would love that, wouldn't he?) ::Blush::

Nighters all.

Check out my recordings and let me know what you think!

It's fun to do some of the songs I've loved. It's not exactly a recording studio, but at least I'm enjoying myself. Please feel free to rate me, leave feedback (CJ, You SUK) OK, maybe not that. Constructive criticism, ok? ;) Thanks all!

I've been trying to get the karaoke player working so I could have a little fun -- since we don't go out much here in Vero. I finally got it set up. Still needs a bit of tweaking, but don't tweak out. It's just me. Tell me what you think, OK? I can take it.

This is made up of a group of guys here in Sebastian who decided to turn a love of the 'Stones into a tribute band.  We got to view the gang this past Saturday night and thought we would offer a personal critique of their sound, good and not so good.

First of all, I have to confess that we came in late.  I forget that the freaking sidewalks roll up at midnight here in smalltown, so when we arrived at 8:30, the band had already been on for about an hour.  Our loss, lemme tell ya, cause these guys rock pretty well.

The lead singer (sorry, I don't have names yet, but I'll edit this when I get them...) had a decent Jagger sound, but his upper register just wasn't there.  It's ok though, actually, because most of his vocals on the melody lines were spot-on.  "Waitin on a Friend" was weak on the start mostly because I missed the oOooOOoOOoOooo yeah, yeah...  I'm thinking if his backup vocals have any gear, they should do the fill-in for him...  Hell, I was, but I didn't have a mic and I was sitting 8 feet from them.   God, what a pain it is to sing and not have the chance to go and DO it.  I would really liked to have heard the gain pulled up a bit more clearly on the vocals, because the treble was off and vocals can get awfully muddy at times.  Loud doesn't do it, I want it loud and clear!

The yakkin' sax was awesome.  He had the squawks down to a T and there was a rare break in his fill.  This guy can spit some blues out and had Rolling Stones sax out the back.  He completely rocked and has "showman" written all over him.

Bass man was very good.  There wasn't as much clarity when the guys were singing, but the bass was kickin.  He had a nice depth, kept a smooth beat and filled in the back very well.  Keep it up!

The lead was good, but dude, you looked so bored.  I can see you in an alt group or something.  He and drummer Joey Cafeo just seemed like they were there "because".   I just didn't get the feel that these two were really in it for the Stones, but if you listen to the Rolling Stones, you can see that there isn't really a lot of challenge to the drums or to lead on a lot of their songs.   This was the late 60's, 70's and 80's, when the Stones were working their magic and could do no wrong!  The Stones, though, are the fill for Mick, and if the cover man isn't moving, the natives get restless and bored.  Entertain me!

Now for something better...  Despite the criticisms I've offered, I really enjoyed listening to the guys playing.  Emotional Rescue is a good local band with a solid performance and their Stones covers are better than average.  I just want to see a bit of extra showmanship!  We're talking about Mick-Frickin'-Jagger, who does more than stand-and-deliver.  This guy carries no extra weight for a reason - not that I want to see an anorexic on stage, but he's always been a mover.

Final notes:  A great band for a night out.  The guys play well, cover all the best Stones material and if you enjoy the Stones, you WILL enjoy Emotional Rescue.  And for you clubs out there, hire them.  You won't regret it.  They are very good and with what they play, they'll draw folks in who will buy your beer.  They need some more experience, and you can give it to them.  Guys, if Stones covers are what you want, work it for all it's worth.  You do well already, but you can do better.  I'd love to see you again!

PS-If I'm right, and you want to be doing something else besides Stones covers, let me know where you're doing it.  I want to see the REAL you, OK?

As you all know, David and I moved down here to Florida in May of last year, and with our work at the store, we put our DJ business aside for the time.  We held a gig earlier this summer for a really sweet couple who were married at the pavilion for our community and their reception at the Pointe West clubhouse here in Vero turned out great!  It was a beautiful affair, the clubhouse was done so well, and the kids and their families really seemed to enjoy the reception.

It was a learning experience for me too, because, while I've done "mixed marriages" before, these kids really wanted to integrate his Puerto Rican heritage with her American heritage.  The music was really geared toward their needs, and included the addition of island music that I'd not utilized so fully before.  I'm glad to Stacey and Juan Quintero, for the privilege to serve them and participate in their lovely wedding and reception.  I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did.

Now we are starting to do some serious advertising and bidding on new jobs as we begin building our business once again.  There isn't nearly as much karaoke down here as we're used to -- heck, there are only a handful of places in a half hour drive -- and that's for the whole week, not just one night.  So, I'm hoping you clubbies will mention us to your favorite bar/pub/tavern or restaurant manager and encourage them to contact us for rates.  We do have introductory specials, and would be happy to discuss this with whomever might be interested!

We also have the following special services: Trivia/game night, general Emcee, public speaking (ask about some of our topics or let us know what you want for your special event); we also have T-bar lights, Scaffold lighting, fog lights, strobe and musical instruments to make a special atmosphere or to enhance your dance floor.  Extra charges would apply, of course.

We have a coupon posted on our spot with www.merchantcircle.com, so do a search for us there, and use that coupon for your special event!  Book us before the expiration date on the coupon and we will be happy to hold that price and discount for you.

Feel free to drop us a note here at myspace or send an email to us at cnstarzkaraoke@aol.com to make sure we get your request in a timely manner.  We want to bring you the best and we offer the best in service, entertainment and sound quality!  Always happy to let you talk with some of our Ohio references, so don't be shy about asking.
