"As a straight ally and as a person with many lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender family members, friends and fans, I want to thank the Human Rights Campaign, Judy and Dennis Shepard and Senator Edward Kennedy for their leadership in the 11 year struggle to get the Matthew Shepard & James Byrd, Jr. Hates Crimes Prevention Bill enacted. FINALLY, with President Obama's signature, violent hate crimes against the LGBT community will be recognized and prosecuted by the Federal government. This is only the beginning, I believe that the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell and the Defense of Marriage Act, as well as the passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, will soon be here. Today, that light at the end of the tunnel for the LGBT civil rights movement is much brighter." - Cyndi Lauper

"Today I found out that Capt. Lou had passed away. He passed away at home with his family beside him. I am sad for his family and I'm just sad. But I know he's at peace now. He had been ill for a while. My heart goes out to his family.

Capt Lou and I became famous together. He always made me laugh. He made all that promotion we did so much fun. He graced me with a lot of video performances that I will always treasure. He was a great, gregarious, hilarious fellow who had this lovable presence. I was lucky to work by his side. I will always look back on our absolute hilarious times and the magical world of Wrestling he introduced me to and shared for that brief time. As he said, he took me up the charts from 10, to 5, to 4 to 1, to minus 5 back up to 1 again. And it was great fun too.

So let me just say this; I love ya Lou and I can picture you up there somewhere explaining that PEG principle to someone. Or maybe you're having a good laugh with Freddie Blassie. But where ever you are, I am sure you are causing a hilarious rucuss. And I will be sad to miss out on that."

New York, NY - The True Colors Tour has partnered with Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, Broadway Impact and the True Colors Fund to present the True Colors Cabaret, a monthly series in support of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) equality. Each show will intertwine performers from the world of Broadway and popular music, along with a celebrity host. 100% of the net proceeds from each show will go directly to the True Colors Fund and Broadway Impact.

“I am proud to announce that the True Colors Tour and True Colors Fund have joined forces with Broadway Impact and Feinstein’s at Loews Regency to produce a unique cabaret series to raise awareness about GLBT equality,” said Cyndi Lauper. “Sara Bareilles, Gavin Creel, Stephanie J. So please come join us for what promises to be a series of great shows in support of an important cause.”

“Broadway Impact is thrilled to be a part of this exciting venture with The True Colors Tour and Feinstein's,” said Gavin Creel. “The work that Cyndi Lauper and the True Colors Fund does is truly incredible and it is the perfect team for us to partner up with. We hope the Broadway community will lead the fight for equality here in New York and across the nation, and bringing this cabaret series to fruition is an amazing opportunity to spread our message that action equals equality.”

"Many years ago, Irving Berlin stated: 'music makes history, and history makes music.',” said Michael Feinstein. “On behalf of Feinstein's, we are proud to collaborate with True Colors and Broadway Impact to make music for change, equality and history. And in the process we'll all have a heck of a lot of fun!"

The inaugural True Colors Cabaret will take place on Monday, September 28th at 8:00 pm. Dear Friends -

I am so excited to be hitting the road again this summer on the Girls Night Out Tour with Rosie O'Donnell, as well as a few shows on my own.

If you are attending one of the shows, we need your help. Food banks around the country are reporting difficulties in getting food donated and keeping up with the demand due to the current state of our economy. So, they need our help and it is really simple for us to do something.

We have partnered with almost all of the venues we will be playing and various food banks along the tour route to collect non-perishable food items. Below you will find a list of where we will be collecting items. So, please bring as much as you can to the concert. We will have volunteers and bins available for you to easily drop off your donation.

If we all join together and donate, we can make a real difference for so many families. So, please take part and donate what you can. I look forward to seeing you soon!

Warmly,
Cyndi

P.S. If you will not be attending one of the shows in August, please visit the Feeding America website to find a food bank you can drop off a donation at in your area!

STATEMENT BY CYNDI LAUPER ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA SUPREME COURT'S DECISION ON PROP 8:

Let me see, how does that song go again? "I get knocked down, but I get up again. You're never going to keep me down." Every time we get knocked down we only get stronger. If it takes one time or ten times, we get stronger each time.

Never forget the late, great San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk who was known for saying, "...I'M HERE TO RECRUIT YOU!!" And I'm shouting out now for all my fellow straight allies to stand beside our LGBT friends and family and start being counted.

- Cyndi Lauper

The following are some organizations that are working to overturn Prop 8. Please take some time to learn about Prop 8 and find out how you can take part in their efforts to ensure everyone is treated equally in California:

Cyndi performed "Time After Time" with Allison Iraheta on last night's season finale of American Idol.

CYNDI IN AN INTERVIEW WITH ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE WITH ALLISON, SAID: "I tried to create a little band. I rocked it a little for [Allison], because she has that rock-and-roll voice and it's a really neat voice. You know, it's hard to do that [show]. I probably would never been anybody if I had to come through Idol. I don't think Bob Dylan would've either! It's really hard what they're doing, so I give them all props. [Allison's] a terrific little singer. She should have a record deal, that's a no brainer. Oh, I shouldn't say 'no brainer.' I hate that expression!"
