Apparently newer vehicles have a security system on them that when activated, won't allow you to start your car.
This system is a fault.
The way to bypass the system is to reboot the car's computer.
One workaround that I have found is to use jumper cables. :: carefully, place the cables on to the battery as though you were preparing to jump start the vehicle.
do not touch any metal or the vehicle with either oneself or the cables.
test for current by lightly tapping the cables together, being aware that the current is so hot that it can weld the cables together.
next, one runs the ... rounded corner of the cable jumper along the other jumper, as though striking a match.
This bleeds enough current from the computer system to cause a system wide failure, and allows the car's computer to re-boot in "safe-mode" (I am guessing here).
viola....
the car starts.
