Man I'm tired right now but too awake to sleep. Anxiety I guess.

Soon. Very soon the days will linger in reverie.

In my mind I'll take shelter from the darkening skys.

I can hear the crackling thunder getting nearer.

I'm hungry but my cupboards are bare.

I don't know how I'm going to do this.

Rain begins to patter on my roof.

On my kitchen table lies a plate of crumbs and a big fat black rat nibbling on
them.

"Hey Oscar you wanna share some of that"? I ask Mr.rat.

He looks up and twitches his whiskers in acknowledgment and a dusting of crumbs falls from them.

"Well Oscar I guess it's just me and you for awhile huh"

He goes back to eating the crumbs.

I sit across from Oscar and Look out the window.  Trees are swaying and rain is really coming down now.

"Looks like the storms here my friend, guess we not going anywhere for awhile."

"Don't suppose you know how to play rummy"?

This time Oscar just continues to eat the crumbs.Dem some good crumbs I s'pose. Must be Wondercrumb.

The roof begins to leak and drip on my head.

My shelter sucks but its all I got now.

Goodbye ..take care ...and all that good shit.

The storm is here  and the extended forcast doesn't for see the skys clearing for awhile.

I'm just hoping theres no damn hail, my shelter can only stand so much.

PEACE

Back in November I read my first Ray Bradbury Novel "Something Wicked Along This Way Comes". It was a great book . The movie version I love aswell. I've also read some of his short stories in the collection "October Country".  Very good reading.

What sticks out about this author for me is he loves metaphors and similies.  My memory is terrible however so I rarely remember some that I read. I probally should work on my retaining ability.

When I was a kid I remember liking his show aswell. "Ray Bradbury Theater" was a series based on his stories i guess back in the 80's. For the life of me I can't remember any of the shows. The only thing I can recall is the begining of the show where he's typing away at his typewriter and all the cool little figurines in his office .

As far as remembering any episopes all i can come up with is a empty playground in some urban setting with a swing on a swingset swinging by itself in the late afternoon hours. The sky is darkening red and children are laughing but theres no children in the playground, just the rusty swingset and monkeybars. Thats all i remember. Its weird. Probally the end of some episode i imagine. Im going to make a mental note to get the series on DVD one day.  Course this is kinda a note to myself huh.....my memory is no good for mental notes anyhow.

Anyways, I just read "Fahrenheit 451".

What a terrific book.

I don't know why this is not a book I was made to read in school. The books I remember reading that held great literary value were "Animal Farm", "Of Mice and Men", "Tom Sawyer", and "Lord of the Flies". Those are all great books but there should have been more.

Maybe this book was banned in my schools I attended. Who knows. It is on some banned list.  The reason some people had problems with this book is because of burning of the bible and the use of a couple fowl words..nothing to bang ya head about really though.

Harry Potter is on alot of banned list, funny. People are fuckin idiots that spread censorship and thats what this book is about.

This sci-fi classic takes place in the future.  Montag , the main character, is a fireman but no fireman like we have. These fireman hoses shoot out kerosene soaking up books any citizen unlawfully owns and then lights em up. Plus they burn the homes for good measure.

It's a interesting future. Basically alot of people stopped reading and fireman were something the government added later.  People have these 4 wall tv's in their home for entertainment and to stay happy. Be with their families, thats what the people they see on these tvs.

Well Montag takes books home and questions what he's doing and if books are really bad. Another thing that helps him is some young gal he meets and talks too that has nice insight on life...unlike his wife who pretty much loves her "families".

Anyways, its a interesting book because theres alot of truth to it. Censorship has been around forever and its here today and not in only books. Go to walmart and pick up a cd w/vulgar language and it says edited. When was the last time we really had a third voice in politics spewed to us in the media besides Democraps and Republicraps. Hell the Democraps wanna add something called " The Fairness Doctrine" to force political radio 50/50 between the two. Fuckin joke. Look at North Korea. The government control everything in their society, books, internet, music.

We did make one place more free though(IRAQ)...seems nobody cares about that kinda stuff anymore. Thats something the book shows is how people are more interested in their entertainment then things that really matter. We're slowly getting there.

Awright I read Bentley Little's " Death Intinct". I friggon love this author.
Basically the book is about alot dead bodies popping  up, the first body found is some poor smuck the got got skinned, so theres a killa on the loose.
Well all of Littles books are pretty weird so the killa ended up being some drooling retarded kid.  The way he spins this possibility is the kid is special.
Savant syndrome is a condition that occurs in autistic or mentally challenged people. Like that Dustin Hoffman movie ya know " Rain Man" where the person has a incredable ability in music , math or something. Hoffman was more autistic savant which comprise bout 50% of all savants, so says the internet, and the other 50% consist of mentally challeged people. They are called idiot savants.
Seems kinda a mean way to label them but thats what Dr. J. Langdon Down labeled them back in 1887. He also coined the term Down's syndrome.
Savant is derived from the french word savoir meaning knowing or wise. An idiot is a unintelligent person so there ya go.
Umm my brain was rolling on all cylinders for a sec then got distracted.
I got nothing now ;(
Reading Ray Bradbury's classic " Fahrenheit 451" . Its short book and ive been meaning to check it out.

Well James Herbert's "Moon" was a pretty crappy book w/one of the most forgetable bad guys out there.  I figured it was just because I just read a really good book but naw, its rubbish.

I started reading Bentley Little's "Death Instinct" and have breezed through a hundred pages already. It's easy reading. When it comes to horror this guy is a master.

One of the things I didn't like about "Moon" was most of the chapters pretty much follow one characters point of view w/the occaisional view of the bad guy or a tiny chapter of another character every now and then. Can you imagine reading a novel version of Tom Hanks "Castaway"? It would be pretty fuckin boring w/him just talking to Wilson alot I guess. If a writer is truely gifted with words and descriptions then it would be awright I s'pose but Herbert not that gifted.

Cormac McCarthy's " The road"  point of view is basically a father and son's  as they travel down some highway in a post-apocalypic world were it seems most everything is dead and theres not much to hope for, but they have each other. Thats a great novel and that kinda story was great to have such a singular point of view to carry it. Not to mention McCarthy is very gifted with descriptions. The only problem with that fella is he doesn't use quotation marks and that drives me crazy.

Anyways, I love authors that know how to blend multiple characters into their story.

After reading about 600 pages of Dan Simmons "The Terror" he dedicated one whole chapter to a character that was briefly mentioned in the book.  It was a character who was dieing in the book and it was his birthday. Without going too much into detail Simmons was going from one scene to another and instead of bogging down the story by having 50 pages dedicated to it he split up the points of views so he introduced a different characters point of view. It makes a story flow better.

Here's an example of what I mean.

You got a couple thats sitting in Dennys talking about this and that, then pay their tab and leave. Now this couple could be the main part of the story and you just continue with the story with them or you put something in between  after they leave. Maybe the gal who was serving them or someone sitting in the next booth that overheard their conversation. Hell you could use the guy that pumps their gas down the street or use someone elses point of view before they enter the next scene.

Well this is something Herbert didn't do to well with.

When the sun rises some people see beauty others see another long day beginning. It's best to show multiple points of view to make a story really good.

Anyways, I was just thinking about that.

The last book I read that really disappointed me was Scott Smiths " The Ruins", but for other reasons.  "Moon" didn't disappoint me as much because I didn't have high expectations.

Well now Im gonna continue reading  "Death Instinct", Little never disappoints me ;)
