What is New Zealand's obsession with the America's cup, it is an elitist, pompous, diamond magnet of a sport.

Two Things.

1.) its called the AMERICAS cup no matter who wins it - WTF man - its like having a baby, telling the hospital you wanna name it Nigel and having the Hospital tell you NO...... it was born here you have to name it after us.

2.) has anyone actually sat and watched paint dry? or flown economy from Auckland to New York - or heaven forbid watched an episode of Shortland Street. Three of the most boring things in the world i hear you saying.......... well comming up the rare with a steady grip on the reach around is Yachting.

Improvements .

*  all sailors should have consealed weapons.

* all boats should have 18 pin holes that have been be maintained during the       race in order for it not to sink

* some sort of fusion sport Like Chess Boxing or Korf Ball, instead you could have boats and a big bouncy ball.

Dont get me wrong im a proud Kiwi and im very patriotic, i feel we have lost our way as a country on this one.

Maybe i should pop round and have a ciggie and cuppa Milo with Uncle Helen or Aunty Key.

Peace out Players.

Dave.

Current mood:  awake

Hey People,

hope u are all well, thought id do the blog thing cing its been awhile since ive talked about stuff to anyone.

The weekend that has been and gone was primo, i particiapated with ICW Productions or as i like to call them the "Ethnic Circus" in the 48 Hour Film making competition. For anyone not fimilar with this you basically get 48 hours to storm, write, shoot, cut, and deliver a movie. the rules basically say that everything has to be made and submitted between 7pm Friday and 7pm sunday. Before i tell you more about the film and the film making process let me open your minds to that of ICW Productions (Indian, Chinaman & Whiteman) these guys are some committed cats. Ive been involved in roundabout ways with ICW and its members over the past couple of years and i have to say they are passionite - not only that they are good at what they do. Please read below for the making of "RISK" - "based on a true story". I will soon post with a link so you can all watch it for yourselves.

Friday evening we recived word from the powers that be that our films genre was to be "based on a true story" - not so bad considering the potentials i.e muscial, puppetry shit like that. Anyways we got rocking very quickly into a story (after some false starts) we were on our way. The China Man and the Indian got to work writing a script into the wee hours of the morning whilst i took a leave of absense to work on another special project ive got going :-P

Saturday morning 7:32am - special project wraps up very happy with out come.

Saturday morning 8:37am  i arrive at location one with a solid 40mins sleep behind me, im ready to take on the world, to inspire my fellow film makers to.....fuck it lets be honest and everyone will agree i look like shit, a screwed up photograpth that had been tossed into the path of an overpassing jumbo jet engine. I did some running around trying to find pantyhose, and actor named ronald and some fake medicine for out Hypoconriac lead actress kat. the day move so quickly from there on out i didnt really worry about my 40mins of sleep aside from the 4 mins sleep i had in the car whilst the Indian, chinaman and the White figured out the complexitys of shooting a difficult scene. watching the rushes i could see a great film was being made. After taking another 2 hour absense to run and help some firends out with there comedy festival show we headed back and nailed our final shots just intime for me to head home to sleep.

Sunday 12:03pm ok so i slept in. I got to our HQ and found things in full swing our very talented editor "White Guy" was rocking along, The Indian and I went out to film some much needed pick up shotz that involved me demonstrating my stunt driving skills almost removing a pole in the process -was great fun.

Sunday 6:37pm time to bounce down our movie.

Sunday 6:39pm Shit - how about we add the title and credits.

Sunday 6:46pm - bouncing down final version of film - during this time i had run down to the street to get the car started

Sunday 6:52 - The Indian comes bounding down the stairs with final cut in hand, the car starts rolling as he climbs in, i rip it up the street to the intersection - no time for this, i rip across traffic, then again instantly i cross 2 lanes of moving traffic only to get stuck behind a car going 49kms per hour - the speed limit is 50 for crying out loud. pm

Sunday 6:56pm - We have now covered a 8 min drive in 4 mins, The Indian jumps from the moving car and sprints to the drop off point our offical entry time is recorded @ 6:57pm

I had a wonderful time working on this years 48 hour film comp, i look forward to next year

Dave:-)

About a Year Ago I wrote about New Zealand Band "The Have" Id watched as they nailed the 2002 NZ Rock Quest and rose through the ranks of rock stardom, Inspired by the greatest rock artists of the 70's these guys have arrived as a great Kiwi rock band.  Last year they secured a major record deal along with world class producer Barrett Jones (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) I was told then that the "best was yet to come" and they are saving there power punches for an album which is bound to rock our socks off.

Well the Album has is here and my socks are nowhere to be found, it turns out we weren't to be disappointed.  "Back to the Burning Wreck" is melting pot of fuzzy distortion, killer riffs, and thumping beats. The album as expected is a mix of punishing rock anthems and heavy ballads. The Album isn't caught asleep on the job once "One Step ahead", "OH OH MY MY" are kick Arse tunes. "Tell Your Self Its alright" provides a nice acoustic intermission and fits the mold of The Have nicely. Over all this is a Five Star Album maybe Six stars – is that allowed?

My only one criticism is there is no way to play it loud enough, maybe ill have to wait until the live show.

Current mood:  aggravated

For the past few years several political lobbyists have been moving towards once again moving the drinking age to 20.  New Zealand has adopted a drinking culture that is fast becoming an issue of epidemic proportions. Whilst growing up I witnessed and participated in many acts of immature stupidity under the influence on alcohol, luckily enough I made it through those times but unfortunately several of my friends did not. I don't blame their deaths on politicians or the liquor corporations;

I understand that it was their own decisions that put them into the situations that caused their demise. But should we live in a society that does not learn from its mistakes? More recently I've seen more and more acts of stupidity on the streets of central Wellington at night time. We currently live in a society that is able to accept kids as young as 12 are being arrested for unsocial behaviour induced by alcohol. I feel the NZ is living in the here and now and not the future, there is always an uproar but never any actions of conviction when stories of young kids getting boozed and driving their mates to death are reported in New Zealand.

This week was an important week for young adults in NZ there was once again a bill introduced to parliament that would increase the drinking age from 18 to 20, and once again it was crushed before it reached a select committee. I'm disappointed in the 79 members of parliament in NZ who could not see past the financial costs involved to calculate the human cost. Although that there would only be a two year difference if increased I still feel that this could send an important moral message to the youth of our country, don't get me wrong I can understand there are young people who do no limitations who do understand the consequences of their actions but the majority do not.  It's not an easy fix to change culture but the leadership in New Zealand can do a hell of a lot more than its currently doing.

A few solutions to the problem

Harsher penalties for anyone no matter how old if charged with drink driving,

Tighter breath alcohol limitations on restricted and learner driver licenses.

higher age Restriction of none licensed premises e.g bottle stores and sports matches.

How many more teenagers need to attend A&E before our leaders wake up and realise they are killing our youth.

Hello Friends, Family and Foreigner's

Its been awhile since I've had the time to blog ,I'm not sure why because I like doing it, gives me a sense of satisfaction that I've completed something for the day, its really ever common a happening that I David James Mitchell get something finished on any given day, in fact as I type this blog I begin to explore the possibility of finishing it tomorrow.

Why all this procrastination you may ask? I have been devoting my life to work, I have had my head down at my computer working on a number of things. In no particular order.

  • I rescued the production of two Music videos in the space of 2 months,
  • I have been reading scripts and writing treatments for a stage show in next years Wellington Fringe festival (yet to find anything I want to commit to),
  • I'm working on producing my first viral adverts for Christmas along with Rajeev Mishra,
  • I'm working on publicity for NZ Young Film Makers Awards.

Did you know that blog spelt backwards is GOLB?

Anyways,

John Mayer – His new album is fantastic, forget what your prior opinions of this artist have been and listen to it with an open mind. He has reached into his sole and dragged out everything that he has to offer. Check it out its totally worth a listen.

NZ Politics – All of sudden our country has been caught up a domestic argument between the Major Party Leaders Helen Clark and Don Brash. Its like a really bad episode of Desperate House Wife's. Don Brash apparently has been cheating on his 2nd wife the problem is the media they don't understand that no one gives a shit. Personally I feel sorry for the guy after all it is his 2nd Marriage (the first one ended when he cheated with his current wife). Id still like to be in that position when I'm 110. not that I would cheat but its good to keep the options open aye. Peter Davis ( Prime Minister Helen Clarks Husband) has been accused of being a Homosexual because a backbench national MP found a photo of Peter hugging a known homosexual socialite at the precise time his wife had just been named the Premier, what has the media in New Zealand come to when they run this as a headline story in the countries biggest paper. For this reason I will no longer read this paper.

Clerks 2 – Arse to mouth need I say more hahahaha.

I will be publicizing a few events coming up – please support the arts in New Zealand we are onto a good thing.

Much Love

Dave.

Hello People of My space and beyond.

Its about time I threw up some thoughts.

We have just completed the first round of seasons of both Jerome Chandrahasen Back Packers Guide and James Nokise's White Club. Both shows very successful, Backpackers Guide sold out its entire season in Wellington which is absolutely fantastic. The shows are on stage in Auckland next week, very much looking forward to that and getting home for some rest. If you havent seen the shows yet and are in Auckland come along and I give u a discount for both shows.

Divinci Code - "its just fiction" Jesus dont know how people can get so up tight, sit back read it /watch it (not recommended) but take it for what it is a piece of fiction. - Just a thought did you know the Bible is in the 'fiction' section of Boarders bookshops. mmmm interesting.

Don Brash (NZ political leader): This man is embarrassment to our country, how can the National Party support a man whom seems best suited to be working as a the Chair of the Australian Tourism Board. He even has bill boards up suggesting skilled Kiwi workers take off over the ditch and work in Ausy to save a little money. Don Brash aye - what a dick.

Anyways I have to ran and catch a train - Hope to see you at the shows.

Much Love

Dave.
