Hello from my 6th tour with Lord of The Dance!
Having toured three weeks already there is still much terrain to cover in the remaining two.
We started out in Georgia and we travelled eastbound performing in most of the southern states. Heading north after Florida, we will finish in Boston in the middle of May. Check out my official websites if you are thinking of coming to see me http://www.deirdreshannon.com or http://www.myspace.com/deirdreshannon

The live circuit has been a busy and colourful one for me over the last while. Just last month I featured as soloist in the Irish festival in Bahrain. I was honoured to sing at the Irish Society Grand Ball. That was wonderful. David Munro was my pianist and we brought the house down! That was a lot of fun indeed and we hope to do it again!

I toured as guest soloist on the Canadian Tenors' Christmas tour of western Canada in December. We did several concerts in Victoria and Vancouver Island. This coincided with their album release on which I feature. Check out their website http://www.canadiantenors.com and my MySpace playlist.
Recently, Ragus became one of my favourite shows! I toured the Netherlands with them in November. What talent! What fun! Have a look at some photos if you wish on their official website http://www.ragus.ie/gall.asp

On the recording front there's been quite a few things happening. I recently recorded some Irish classics with Frank McNamara
You can purchase this, or indeed just have a listen on Frank's own wesite at http://www.frankmcnamara.com/frankmcnamara/fmcnamara_store.php. Check out the following songs there - Isle of Inishfree, Fields of Athenry, She Moved Through The Fair, When Irish Eyes Are Smiling, Love's Old Sweet Song.
The Celtic Divas
and I also recorded some exciting new material which will be soon available to purchase. One song in particular is creating a bit of a stir. It's called Bells of Peace. You can listen to it and read about this special song on a dedicated website, kindly created by Jenny Fedei at the following website address http://www.bellsofpeace.net

Coming Soon!
You will soon be able to purchase MP3s from my MySpace Website and other dedicated music website like ITunes, Amazon and CD Baby!!

Released! CDBaby, ITunes and Amazon now carry Deirdre Shannon!

Announcement! I will be a guest on the Celtic Woman website where a chat will happen on Sat 23 May at 3pm Eastern time, 8pm Irish Time, 9pm European time. Come join me!!

Well, off I go on my travels again!
Having returned from South Africa just 2 weeks ago, I now embark on another tour (thankfully not as far away from Ireland) to The Netherlands! Last month was with Michael Flatley's Lord of The Dance and this coming month will be with Ragus. I am really looking forward to working with this fantastic show which is built on Traditional Irish music and dance, and can't wait to perform with the fine musicians there. You can read all about them on the following website www.ragus.ie.
I will return to Ireland after 5 weeks for a short time before leaving again for the US and Canada with Lord of the Dance (www.lordofthedance.com).

Hello Friends,

It's been some time since I've been in touch.  I hope this newsletter finds you well.

It surely has been a very busy year for me with lots of touring under my belt with the Celtic Tenors.  I retired from the show just last month to take a little rest.  Even if it's only a short-lived visit it is wonderful to be home again.

There are a few events happening which you may be interested in...

My wonderful friend and colleague Jenny Fedei is putting together a 'Live Chat' to celebrate the official launch my new fan site forum at http://www.deirdreshannon.net.

This is scheduled for Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 11:00am PST, 2:00pm EST, 6:00pm GMT, 7:00 pm Ireland, 8pm western Europe.  Space is still available for those who would like to participate.  All questions must be submitted no later than Monday, October 1, 2007, Midnight.  Email to: jenny@deirdreshannon.net
For eligibility and further details please review the guidelines at:
http://www.deirdreshannon.net/forum/index.php?topic=6.msg19msg19
The winners of the contest will also be announced after the chat that same night.  To "view" all the wonderful prizes up for grabs, go to: http://www.deirdreshannon.net

I'll take this opportunity also to announce an exciting new musical project which will be touring Stateside next year.  I will be performing in this Irish show - "If You're Irish...", the brainchild of original Irish Tenors producer Frank McNamara.  Apart from myself the show features two other fine Irish soloists, Derek Moloney- tenor and Cora Smyth- violin.  The show will be performed with full orchestra and chorus and I'm very excited to be part of the tour which will kick off at the end of February 2008 and runs through March.  Among others we expect to be visiting Pittsburgh, Chicago, Grand Rapids, Detroit, Columbus, Lowell, Hartford, Providence, New York and Washington DC (on Paddy's Day).

Please visit my own website for schedule updates on http://www.deirdreshannon.com.

Much thanks for taking the time to read this.
Until next time, it's, bye for now!

Deirdre Shannon

Psssst……. Hey, world. C'mere. I have a secret to share with you. No, it isn't a major medical breakthrough (although it does have magical healing powers). It has nothing to do with the war in Iraq, or global warming, or crooks in high places. This secret is a person, a voice, a soul as lovely as any you're likely to encounter. My secret's name is Deirdre Shannon, and she won't be a secret much longer.

I went to Charleston, West Virginia, on the weekend of March 10-11, 2007, and I was overwhelmed. Not by Charleston (sorry, Charlie West) - but by the company I kept while I was there. I had the distinct honor of meeting and hanging out with Joe and his lovely family, and sweet Lynne, and (of course) my buds, Jenny and Brian. Deirdre, naturally, was the star attraction. We were all there to see her perform in concert with the Celtic Tenors and the West Virginia Symphony at the Clay Center.Deirdre Shannon

Jenny had arranged a little private "meet and greet" for us, before the concert Saturday evening. Deirdre promised us fifteen minutes, which wound up lasting almost half an hour. She breezed into the room wearing a sweet, ear-to-ear smile, and my heart just melted. She chatted with us, laughed with us, took photos with us, and generally just charmed us out of our socks. I was completely stunned when she exclaimed that she was delighted to finally get a chance to meet me! I think I mumbled something about how that was supposed to be MY line! We had each brought her little gifts, to thank her for going out of her way for us. She took the time to open them all and exclaim excitedly over each one. As an added bonus, the Tenors themselves (Matthew Gilsenan, James Nelson and Daryl Simpson) and pianist/producer David Munro all joined the fun and lent their charm and good humor to the gathering. After twenty-five minutes or so, when someone finally convinced Deirdre that she had to get busy preparing for the show, she turned at the door and graced us with one more bright smile. Putting on a serious and haughty little face, she announced, coquettishly, "You'll have to excuse me. I have to go take care of - stuff. GIRL stuff!" And, with a toss of her lovely head and a flip of her hair - whoosh - she was gone.

I could easily have gone home after the meet-and-greet. After that joyous event, the concert itself was almost anticlimactic. Or so I thought.

In a word, the concert was wonderful. The WV Symphony Orchestra is really excellent and, let me tell you, those tenors are terrific! Their song selection is eclectic, to say the least; they sing everything from traditional to operatic to classic rock, and they do it all very, very well. And their rapport and interaction with the audience is wonderful. They can have you in stitches with laughter one minute and bring tears to your eyes the next. And David, the Scot, sits smiling at his piano and keeps everyone on their toes by throwing in occasional hilarious, unrehearsed one-liners.Deirdre Shannon

And then they introduced their "special guest" - Deirdre - and she walked on stage. Correction - she glided on stage. The lady doesn't walk; she glides, as though supported by a cushion of air. The audience was instantly captivated by her ethereal beauty, her grace, and her megawatt smile. But the best was yet to come. Make no mistake about it; this young lady has pipes! And style; oh, what style. She can sing anything. She could sing the phone directory and make it sound good. Her voice has a soaring clarity, and it fills your heart as easily as it fills the auditorium. I won't go into detail about the specific selections, because I don't want to spoil the surprise for you. But I will say this much; when she and Matthew (her brother, incidentally) teamed on Time to Say Goodbye, my spine tingled and the hairs on the back of my neck stood at attention.

Regrettably, the show had to end some time (after several well-deserved standing ovations). All the performers went to the lobby and generously took time to chat, sign autographs, and pose for photos. I had one more opportunity to speak briefly with Deirdre, have my picture taken with her, and tell her how much I'd enjoyed meeting and hearing her. As Lynne and I walked out of the theater, I told her I might need someone to tie a string around my ankle and hang onto it, to keep me from floating away.

I have a theory about the Creation. Whether it started with God, or the little gods, or a simple accident of Nature, there was no thunderous crash or "big bang." In the beginning, there were words, and the words came with a tune. Everything in our experience was made, the great void was filled, the world and the stars and our dreams and the animals and the trees and the oceans and the laughing children - all began with a song. And the voice singing that song sounded like Deirdre.

On the 4th June myself and David Munro (musical director) fly to Glasgow to embark on a ship called 'The Black Prince' .
We will sail around the Celtic coastlines until the 18th June - namely Guernsey, Isles of Scilly, the north of France and Ireland.
This is an educational tour put together by The National Trust for Scotland.
There will be geologists, historians, sociologists, anthropologists, poets, musicians (I am the headline act) etc. on board.
It's something I am looking forward to - I love the sea and especially the fresh air.
Fingers crossed that the weather will remain good!
Check out their website at http://www.nts.org.uk

On disembarking the ship on the 18th June we will be whisked off to Toronto in Canada to do a few high profile concerts.
The Celtic Tenors and I will be performing on the 20th June in the Roy Thomson Hall in town with Loreena McKennitt.
The reason being... the Ireland Park Foundation Concert Benefit Gala.
Patrick Cassidy is the Irish writer of a large commissioned work called the 'Famine Remembrance'. We will be performing part of that piece there.

The official opening of the Ireland Park by the president of Ireland will be taking place the next day 21st June. We will perform for the crowds there (open air)!
That night there will be a dinner in the Ontario Museum where we will perform yet again.

We fly back to Ireland the next day!

Having just returned from the Middle East I must admit to being quite exhausted! It was a wonderful experience though.
I performed a concert with the Celtic Tenors in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The venue was called 'The Club' and we were treated to a wonderful reception from a huge cross-section of nationalities. There. we met some fun and generous folk indeed. Thank you Dale - you treat everyone, especially your staff, with such respect and dignity! It was lovely working with you.
Our second concert was in Bahrain in an exclusive restaurant called 'Upstairs, Downstairs'. We'd LOVE to come again if not to sing for you, then to eat the glorious food by British chef, David. Thank you again Stan for your generous hospitality. What a pleasure it was to meet you and your beautiful wife Grace. Thank You.

As we come to the end of this North American tour we have many 'highs' to remember as well as the 'lows'. It is strange but somehow, travel days with multiple flights, lots of waiting around, 4 am lobby calls, sound checks in halls with bad sound systems - all blend into the standing ovations from three thousand people, moments of inspired music-making, great fun and belly laughs with old friends, exciting meetings with new friends not to mention some amazing scenery in between. Throughout all this, the thought of that homeward bound flight comes closer and creates wild anticipation, making the last day of the tour always a strange bitter-sweet experience.

Then we miss the return flight the big one we have been thinking about for so long. Oh well! It's all part of being out on the road.

It's been a long haul (we covered about 16,500 miles in 2 months) but I'm glad to say we all survived it well and though we're tired we know there is some time off just around the corner. Our last 2 concerts in St.Catharine's, Ontario in Canada were wonderful - we were joined by the Niagara Symphony Orchestra and their conductor, Daniel Swift, a lovely man and a new friend!

You'd love to hate Deirdre Shannon for her beauty and stunning vocals, but it's that darn pleasant look on her face that makes you not, as you just know she's a nice girl at heart. Irish beauty Shannon has already strutted her vocals in front of millions, you just probably remember her as the angelic soloist known as 'Erin The Goddess' in Michael Flatley's mammoth hit show 'Lord Of The Dance', or perhaps you recognize Shannon from the group 'Celtic Woman'.

Whatever way you may recognize Deirdre Shannon from, it is her self-titled debut collection that will imprint her talent, name and charisma, into your musical memory log book. Finally this songstress has stepped into the spotlight and added her elegant and ethereal tone to traditional songs like "I Know My Love", "Ardaigh Cuain", "Apron Of Flowers", and a truly crisp and evocative version of "She Moved Through The Fair", which shows off Shannon's strength as a vocal performer all on her own.

Mind you she has more diverse songs like "One More Day" from the film Veronica Guerin which is about an Irish journalist who is assassinated by drug dealers for her coverage of their crimes, that shows another strength to Shannon. More than traditional 'folk songs' as we now call them, Shannon spreads her wings with the Rod Stewart cult favourite "I Don't Want To Talk About It". Deirdre Shannon also makes a lyrical excursion into a nursery rhyme by Christina Rossett in "New Born", but just beforehand she and Matthew Gilsenan (The Celtic Tenors) tackle the difficult to sing popera classic "The Prayer".

This is a solid debut album which should garner much acclaim. All the songs have beautiful orchestrations or classic Celtic instruments, like whistles and wire harps, which only lends itself to Deirdre Shannon's pure and crisp vocals. I suspect Shannon is enchanting in concert (she is touring with The Celtic Tenors this 2007), and I wouldn't be surprised if she did a stint on Broadway at some point in her career, as her voice has the strength to reach the back row but the softness to hold an audience in the palm of her hand.

20 April 2007

Well this week gone by has been the most difficult one so far in this North American Tour. In my experience it is always about week 7 into touring that one feels like being stationary and 'having a normal life'!! I guess it's some psychological barrier, which always seems to bring a temporary maudlin aspect to life! This usually only lasts about a week and sure enough every time I come out the other side still liking what I'm doing! Weird I know, but life on the road is weird and that's that!!

I have been fixing up my MySpace website along with Jenny and Don's help recently to whom I am in much debt. The address is... http://www.myspace.com/deirdreshannon.

The forum on my Fan Website is healthily chatting away with 80 members strong now and constantly growing. I really enjoy dropping by every now and again to see what the good people have to say. Thank you Jenny and everyone else involved (Rianne, Brian and Rich) for all your work on this. The address is at the following... http://www.deirdreshannon.net/

Also I must say that the new Celtic Tenors Fan Website is really nice. I've been checking it out. It is very easy to find subject matter. A real credit to Anja and Beate! Thanks for including me on the page also...
