Catching the train is easy, right? (Senon’s Perspective). European tour, summer 2009.

I was the guy a bit in charge of logistics and I was busting my butt to be pro, Zen and proficient. We had spent the day in Amsterdam going this way and that, splitting up and bumping into each other, having a nice day.
We arrived way too early to the station...this might have been our downfall. We looked at our ticket confirmation, found the platform and settled into an hour wait. The rest of the band was off buying supplies for our over-nighter to Munich. I stopped a train conductor and asked if we were in the right place. He assured me we were.
I noticed the trains pulled in typically about 5 minutes before and was not worried when our train had not rolled in yet a few minutes before departure. Zac made an observation of a train on a different platform and said that looks like a train we would probably be taking. I looked over and was barely able to read the word Munich on a small piece of paper stuck in the door's window.... fuck!!! Last minute platform change, we were on the wrong platform four minutes before departure time. I took off with just my shoulder bag and told the gang I would hold the train...at the time I had no idea that holding a locomotive would be as hard and emotionally draining as it was. I also learned that all of us are way more physically astounding then I would have thought.
I hit the correct platform running and found a woman in uniform; she quickly referred me to the conductor. From there I started to explain that my friends were coming, we were on the wrong platform and the lie we fabricated about the non-refundable tickets we left in London. All I got was a blank stare, I quickly realized she understood about two words I had just said and gave me an arm motion to get on the train. I said MY FRIENDS ARE COMING!!! She yelled at me TRAIN GO, GET ON TRAIN!!!! Next thing I did was to wedge my self in the door and say I am not moving until my Friends board the train. Before I knew it three conductors screaming at me to board or get off the train surrounded me. At the same time I’m yelling to my mates still out of sight to hurry, hurry, HURRY. Nimol appears first, then Joel and then Zac. At this point the train staff is frantically saying I will be hurt if I do not move now...OUT OR IN!! All now have arrived except Ethan is nowhere in sight. I have had about three minutes of jamming my body in the door and my nerves could not take three angry German workers screeching in my face at point blank another second. I leaped from the train and ran to assist Ethan, he was grunting up the platform steps like a hobbled pack mule. Keyboard case and his broken bag lashed to it in one hand, the merch bag in the other, his pregnant back pack, three bottles of wine and all our vinyl slung around his neck...must have been 180 pounds of dead weight. I can still see this look of anguish on his face, swollen tongue, veins and pure pain. We have way too much baggage anybody should ever have to traipse around Europe with (Ethan now carrying half)...not recommended. Now, finally we are all on the platform and the train doors have shut us out. With our last saving breath we yell (a lot of yelling has been going on this whole time) WE ARE ALL HERE! The one conductor left on the platform yells back to us...OPEN THE DOOR! Joel fumbles with the handle, the door pops open and we fling our selves and bags like a box of pick up sticks into the train's corridor. Nimol is yelling brother I can't do it; I grab her and her bag and lift her past me. Ethan is scraping his last vested strength just to get to the door, with only him left, his keyboard and his busted bag that should have split open halfway up the stairwell. I was worried about making the coach, but truly worried for Ethan, his purple face being restricted by so much garb hanging from his neck. Just as we are picking his stuff up like a loaded coffin his bag's lashings snap and fly towards the gap between the foothold and the platform on its way to the tracks below. It lands at the perfect angle not to fall into oblivion, we recover it, and Ethan, and BEHOLD we are ALL ABOARD!!  Food smashed, bags stacked like boulders of an ocean Jetty and panting sounds from five beaten souls. One second later the train was moving and Ethan was dry heaving. This is the first time I have seen anyone almost puke from physical exertion...I’ve seen marathon runners shit their pants on TV, but never vomiting from physical activity. I was feeling pretty yucky my self. The doors suddenly swung open from the adjoining train car, Ethan and I got a good chew out by the conductor about how we got her in trouble with the way-ups. This made me feel a bit yuckier.
We all stood there ten or fifteen minutes catching our breaths...I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to figure out our coach and cabin with the way my mind felt, hell if was going to ask a porter. I tried passing off this responsibility and quickly learned we were all in the same state. After a couple more minutes Ethan and I were able to match the numbers and found our way.
We moved slowly through three cars to our berth and were happy. I chatted with the ticket lady and she seemed to have no grudge from our grand spectacle, she didn't mind I was covered in sweat and smelled like a horse. She accepted our lost tickets and police report explanation with a grain of salt and to my surprise the chief yell-at-me-woman gave me a pleasant smile and was helping Zac with his bag.

The rest of the trip was as peace as the first spot of rain after a long hot L.A. summer.

Dengue Fever announced today the July 14 digital-only release of a four-track EP entitled Radio Dance Floor, featuring a collaboration with the Bird and the Bee’s Inara George on lead vocals on the disco classic “I Feel Love” made famous by Donna Summer.

Radio Dance Floor transports Dengue Fever from their customary sound of psychedelic 60s Cambodia straight onto the late 70s New York Studio 54 dance floor, with the inclusion of the remix of “Clipped Wings” from Secret Circuit. Tracks to be released include:

“I Feel Love (Full Length)” 5:00,

“I Feel Love (Radio Edit)” 3:34,

“Clipped Wings Secret Circuit's Cosmic Clip Mixx” (Full Length)” 8:25,

“Clipped Wings Secret Circuit's Cosmic Clip Mixx” (Radio Edit)” 5:26.

”Inara George and I grew up together in Topanga Canyon, California and it's such a pleasure to finally get to collaborate together,” said Dengue Fever guitarist Zac Holtzman. “Recording a disco classic like Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” was the ideal situation to work with Inara and still keep the feel of Dengue Fever.  There was absolutely no pressure, a ton of fun play something so iconic and we still were able to get our lead singer Chhom Nimol to sing backup, which made it even better.”
