REMINDER:  RAIN or SHINE

Sunday, 8-26-07 at 2:00 PM
Protest Huntingdon Life Sciences...

..

....for the 500 animals, like these beagles,
 killed there every single day

Join Win Animal Rights as we continue the campaign to stop the killing at the notorious animal testing labs at Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). HLS is a company whose primary business is death and suffering.  500 animals are killed there every day. They are poisoned, they are cut and burned, they have limbs broken and in the picture above, they have toxic gases pumped into their lungs. On top of that, they have to endure the cruelty of sadistic technicians who have been proven, in undercover investigations, to abuse and torture the animals in their care.

Date/Time: Sunday, August 26, 2007 at 2:00 PM
Place: 279 Central Park W. (88 St.) - New York City
Home of: Andrew Baker, Chief Puppy Killer of HLS

Important: After the Baker demo, we will leave this location to visit the homes of key executives of  primary HLS customers and officials of the New York Stock Exchange. Wear comfortable walking shoes.  Being comfortable will help you to fight harder and longer. Future Baker protests will occur regularly on the last Sunday of every month. The demo will take place rain or shine. High heat or rain are nothing compared to what the animals imprisoned at HLS have to endure every day.

Following are some descriptive comments about dogs who were part of the inhalation experiments that took place at Huntingdon Life Sciences in 2003. All of this was to test a compound called HCFC 22 which has been banned for many years. We encourage you to read the entire report, which you can find on the SHAC website:

http://www.shac.net/ACTION/newsletters/hcfc22.pdf
"Dog number 1185 trembling struggling...trembling nervous, 1181 pulling back in sling, struggling...1179 severe head tremors and whole body shaking...1187 closing of eyes, drooping of head, head supported by sling, slow deep breathing, staggering in sling, semi consciousness...1183 shaking of head, unconsciousness....1173 closing of eyes, hindlimbs splayed, unresponsiveness to stimuli."
Such is the life of an animal enslaved by Huntingdon Life Sciences.  When making your plans, please consider that there are 70,000 animals trapped inside of Huntingdon Life Sciences right now.  Some are violently ill while others pace their cold steel cages and dank concrete pens waiting to be poisoned or mutilated for toothpaste or some new chemical or food additive.  You are their only hope. Please, please stop whatever you are doing and make plans to join us on Sunday at the home of HLS CEO Andrew Baker.  If you cannot join us, you can contact Andrew Baker and/or HLS at:

What You Can Do to End the Canadian Seal Hunt

Help us reach our goal of 50,000 names on our petition to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper urging him to bring a swift and permanent end to the annual slaughter of baby harp seals.

Learn more at FurIsDead.com about what PETA is doing to prevent hundreds of thousands of baby seals from being shot, bludgeoned, or skinned alive for their fur.
The fur industry has many ugly faces. There's the horrific slaughter of millions of dogs and other animals in China. In this country, animals are confined to filthy cages before they are gassed, electrocuted, or beaten to death. But even in this cruelest of industries, there is little as shocking as the Canadian seal pup hunt.

Every year, more than 330,000 baby harp seals—most less than 1 month old—are killed in the most barbaric manner for their fur. This carnage takes place with the blessing of the Canadian government. The Canadian government sanctions the vicious destruction of hundreds of thousands of infant harp seals just to satisfy the vanity of a few callous people who still want to wear seal fur.

PETA has made stopping the seal hunt one of the urgent priorities of our anti-fur campaign. We have brought international condemnation to Canada's doorstep, but we need your support to sustain the pressure. I urge you to add your name to PETA's global petition calling on Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to bring a permanent end to the annual seal hunt. Our goal is 50,000 petition signers before the hunt begins, and with your help, we can exceed those numbers.

PETA has already convinced several leading retailers and design houses to stop using real animal fur. Just yesterday, Tommy Hilfiger banned fur from his collection after months of discussions with PETA. He joins Ralph Lauren, Limited Brands, J.Crew, Ann Taylor, Calvin Klein, and many other clothing designers and companies that have sworn off fur thanks to PETA's efforts.

Now is the time for the Canadian government to follow their humane example. Change won't come easily, however. It is up to us to raise an international outcry for the Canadian government to put an immediate end to the seal hunt.

Please help PETA turn up the heat on the Canadian government to end this atrocity. I hope you will join millions of other compassionate people around the world in signing the petition to Prime Minister Harper.

Together, we can stop the horrific abuse and slaughter of animals for their fur.

For all animals,
Ingrid Newkirk

We, the Undersigned, endorse the following petition:

Call on Canada's New Prime Minister to End the Seal Slaughter!

Target: Stephen Harper
Sponsor: Humane Society of the United States
  • Signatures: 14,150
  • Goal: 150,000
  • Deadline: 3-29-2006
The largest commercial slaughter of marine mammals on the planet is set to begin again in Canada next month.

By the end of the hunt, more than 300,000 seals are expected to be clubbed or shot to death by fishermen who hunt seals off-season to pick up extra cash by selling their skins. Almost all of their victims will be babies -- some as young as 12 days old.

During a recent hunt, veterinarians who examined dead seals concluded that 42% of the seals examined had most likely been skinned while they were alive and still conscious.

Polls consistently show that most Canadians oppose the hunt, but still the Canadian government and fishing industry refuse to end it.

But there is new hope on the ice. Canada has a new Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, and a new party in power. With enough public support, they may consider ending this terrible hunt forever.

Sign this petition now and send it to anyone who cares about protecting the lives of Canada's seals.

Thank you, lydia!

Call on Canada's New Prime Minister to End the Seal Slaughter!

Dear Prime Minister Harper,

In late March, the world will be watching as Canadian fishermen begin the largest commercial slaughter of marine mammals in the world on the ice off Newfoundland and Labrador. If the hunt is anything like last year's, more than 300,000 baby seals will be clubbed or shot to death for their fur -- some of them as young as 12 days of age. Last year, a shocking 98.5% of the seals killed were babies two months of age or younger.

Footage taken during the 2005 hunt was appalling: Pups were left to choke on their own blood for up to 90 minutes and were cut open as they struggled. It's no surprise that there has been an international backlash against the hunt, with Italy and Mexico only the latest countries to ban the import of seal products. Earlier this year, the Greenland government announced its decision to stop all imports of Canadian seal skins –- just 23 hours after The HSUS's 2005 seal hunt footage was broadcast on national television.

Most Canadians surveyed oppose the seal hunt, but previous federal administrations have refused to stop it -- even though the hunt brings in very little money, less than 1% of Newfoundland's gross domestic product and just 2% of its fishery. In reality, the hunt provides only a few thousand fishermen with a tiny fraction of their annual incomes. Canada can afford to end the hunt, and so can the fishermen who conduct it.

An ongoing boycott of Canadian seafood products is already jeopardizing the primary income of those fishermen. More than 220,000 individuals have already pledged to boycott Canadian seafood, and more are joining the boycott every day. Since the launch of the boycott, the number of restaurants and seafood-related businesses that have pledged to limit or eliminate their purchases of Canadian seafood has grown to more than 400.

Many American seafood distributors have chosen to boycott Canadian snow crabs because the product accounts for half of the landed value of Newfoundland's fishery. Since the launch of the Canadian seafood boycott, the value of Canadian snow crab exports to the United States has dropped by more than $150 million.

Please take action to protect Canada's fishing industry and international reputation. End a cruel hunt that brings in little money and inflicts such pain to so many baby seals.

Thank you,

Help Save Alaska's Wolves

We want to get at least 50,000 people to sign our petition to save Alaska's wolves from the cruelty of aerial gunning. Your help is critical - please ask your friends and family to join you in protecting wolves!

Send an email to your friends now and ask them to sign this petition today - or use our tell-a-friend tool to spread the word. It's only through word-of-mouth that this campaign will succeed.

Here's a sample email you can send (feel free to copy and paste into your email client!):

Dear friends,

Under Alaska's barbaric aerial gunning policy, marksmen can shoot wolves from the air or use airplanes to chase them in deep snow to the point of exhaustion then land and execute them at point blank range.

But we can stop aerial gunning at the federal level, if Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton would enforce the Federal Airborne Hunting Act (FAHA) in Alaska - join me in signing the petition to Secretary Norton today! http://go.care2.com/71234

Thank you!

Now, please take further action today:

Stop the stealth attack on our National Parks!

The Bush administration has launched yet another stealth attack on America's most treasured wild places - our National Parks.

Their plan would dramatically reduce protections for our parks, which could lead to increased off-road vehicle use, additional commercialization, smog and other forms of degradation. We only have until February 18 to weigh in on this outrageous proposal.

Take action today - submit your public comment to Interior Secretary Gale Norton before the February 18th deadline!
