Thanks to everyone who came to the Valley of the Cyclops record release party, especially our friends the Ugly Beats and DJ Brian Tweedy. I'd like to personally apologize to anyone who I may have hit.. I mean.. who may have been randomly hit by an inflatable sex doll during the event. Please send us links to your pictures and videos from the show! There were cameras everywhere and I still haven't seen any of the carnage documented.( If you posted any photos or videos of it on flickr you can tag them with lastfm:event=922673 and we will magically find them.) Update: the photobooth pictures are Here.On another note- the new record is now available on iTunes!! -wiley

From the Space Rock City Live Review of the Octopus Project and Diagonals show in Houston ...For an August tour of the west coast, the Octopus Project chose fellow Austin dwellers Diagonals to accompany them, and after a handful of dates apart the two bands were reunited for the Octo..'s Warehouse Live show and one in Fort Worth the night before. The five-piece Diagonals were quick to win the crowd over with their brand of reverb-drenched, organ-heavy garage-rock, inspiring dancing and even a small mosh pit. According to frontman Steve Garcia -- who remarked that the historic mosh was "pretty sweet" -- this was a first at a Diagonals show. And the more the crowd warmed up to the band, the more the band seemed to come alive, playing their songs about supermodels and overweight elementary school girls in space with increasing fervor, especially left-handed drummer Todd Larson. I can now only hope they follow the example of their tourmates and stop by more often.

Well, Todd joined a polyester-clad krump-dancing troupe in Oakland, we couldn't persuade Ryan to leave Portland, Nate got sold into white-slavery, Steve converted to fundamentalist Jainism and refuses to wear clothes, and I enjoyed jogging in place with the Octopus Project so much that I have put everything on hold while I work on a series of Octopus Project themed exercise tapes. Tour was awesome, smelly, exhausting, smelly, boozy, enriching, and also smelly. We'll be opening for Adventure this Thursday at Emo's Lounge and also selling any and everything that will sit still long enough for us to write "Diagonals" on it with a sharpie in an effort to recoup our gas losses. Come out and say hello and jam out to the sweet tunes that we are now actually proficient at, after having played them every night for two weeks. I leave you with a bunch of heavy, sweaty alcoholics trying to jog in unison with a bunch of healthy attractive people who can effortlessly play their instruments at the same time. -wiley P.S. : Check out the website I made for the band. We've got videos, songs, a photo gallery and stuff to buy. Gaze lovingly at us while you give us your money. Or you can buy intangible songs at a reduced price from Steve Jobs. We truly live in the future.

For those of you who haven't noticed the glut of new shows on the page, we are headed out of our cozy Austin caves this weekend to bask in the bright light of the world outside, shepherded by our friends The Octopus Project, who have graciously offered to bring us along on their west coast tour. We'll be playing a kickoff show at Beerland this Saturday and if all goes well, we should actually have a little merch to offer up- an army of gnomes inside the hollow earth are forging our t-shirts as I speak, based on the arcane designs of our own Michael Berryhill, who will also be stepping back into the lead guitar spot for a portion of the tour, as well as forming the hairy, muscled, right-arm of a heretofore unseen 6-piece beast with our current lead guitarist Ryan Camarillo. We'll also have a 5 song EP to offer. Did we mention gas is kind of expensive right now? Who knew? So if you are in Austin, come out to Beerland Saturday night (we'll be playing last) and wish us luck. If you live in the outlands, please refer to our list of shows and welcome us to your strange cities, teach us your strange customs and manners of speaking and we will try not to howl in terror and throw our faeces at you. -wiley

Article featured on Austinsound.net follow the link for the interview and hilarious comment battle! http://www.austinsound.net/2008/06/30/sound-off-2/The Diagonals slice an infectious cross between classic garage guitar jangle and Eighties underground dance beats. The quintet unloads more than their fair share of quirky anthems, and over the past year has solidified with a distinct sound that adds some welcome new textures to the familiar guitar and synth combination with their touches of surf licks and deadpan delivery. Diagonals are preparing the release of their debut EP this week and full-length in the fall, but you can catch them live any number of times this holiday weekend, including Saturday night July 5 at the new Monarch Events Center with Pataphysics, Silver Pines, Cari and Jason of Belaire, Hollywood Gossip, and Bear Claw, and again Sunday, July 6 with a free show at Red 7 alongside the Strange Boys and Strange Attractors.
